Forget about the machinations, goals and plots of the rich and powerful for a minute, and ponder what makes regular folks want to be in an EU which strips their country and it citizens of its sovereignty.
WAR. Underlying all of this is a fear that many countries acting in their own best interests will eventually come into a conflict with others that cannot be handled with diplomacy. Then it is war time, and that scares the bejeesus out of people. I'm personally more averse to being controlled from afar by an uncaring governing body that.... oh, wait, I guess we have that here too. I really don't think the EU's in a position to do that. The UK has been (and, until they're disentangled, will continue to be) a big and productive piece of the EU economy. France is barely afloat, the Germans have been making a series of unforced errors on energy and immigration policy that will have significant costs over the next decade, the rest are bit players and some are a significant drain on the EU checkbook. A customs union - properly set up - was/is/can be beneficial and exploit efficiences (actually avoid artificial inefficiencies arising from ...... drum roll ..... govt. interference in economic activity). Modern European states going to war? With one another? Really? If the UK, US, and Russia sat in the bleachers I'm guessing it would take France about fifteen minutes to knock off Germany and the total casualties on both sides would be measured in dozens. The argument goes that Miliband's incompetence led to the rise of Corbyn, who's beloved of the weirdie-beardie university leftist crowd and utterly and completely mistrusted by EVERYONE else. What happened in the Labour leadership election is that the Parliamentary party nominated the leadership candidates and then the Constituency party voted on them. Corbyn was put on the Labour leadership ballot as a joke, a sop to what was supposed to be a tiny hard-left fragment of the party, and he was supposed to finish fourth or something like that to prove that the hard-left was a tiny fragment. And then the millenial university leftists paid their 3 pounds, signed up for Labour, and voted him in as leader, and the Parliamentary party crapped its collective pants. Labour's now run by Corbyn's clique of hard-left, IRA Provo-supporting, asset-seizing, nationalizing, anti-Semites. Much of the Parliamentary party would like nothing better than to use Corbyn's lukewarm and tentative Remain efforts to throw him out, because they know that as long as Corbyn and Milne and McDonnell and the rest are running the show they'll never get near a government again. But too much of the Labour electorate has embraced all the pathologies of the hard-left to get Corbyn out at this point, and if they did what replaced him (McDonnell?) might be worse. Big mistake. A bunch of dudes swarmed out of the house, got into the car and started chasing the cyclist all the way into my neighborhood, shooting at him with a handgun. how can you respect them (and avoid hitting them) when they don't have the courtesy to be predictable?
Exactly, but if you hit one, you're always in the wrong, by law in most places. Um I thought it was already mentioned that Rowling never listed hermione's skin color in the books and the extent of description was brown hair or something. And I didn't think it was that she is saying she always meant for her to be black. She specifically stated which characters were black in her books. Intentionally. Hermione was not, hence.... You're pretty rude for a dead guy. Harry was supposed to end up with Cho Chan, not that simpering Ginny. Yeah Ginny was in the books and movies one of the single least interesting female characters in fiction. Hermione was a more reasonable match, but I think JK wrote her ideal boy in Ron Weasley and her ideal girl in Hermoine, then paired them up imagining herself as Hermione. Where I can, I prefer the sidewalk as well. Its not as strewn with bad stuff as bike paths, and usually safer. For all the awful jerks and insane activist types on bicycles, its not fun out there to ride on a street. Drivers in cars don't see you on a bike nearly as well as in a car. They underestimate the space between you and their car. They clip corners and push you into the curb. I've been hit with side mirrors more than once. I'm no investment expert but it seems to me that in this kind of situation the patient stance is the best one; its not like Britain is going to crater into Zimbabwe tomorrow. It will stabilize and go back up.
I think we all have to remember that the markets are all in la-la land, right now and that no one is paying any attention to what has to happen when the central banks of the world have to finally come to grips with the awful policies they have been pursuing to keep this fantasy going. Markets are going to crash badly and governments are going to run out of money. It is inevitable. Interest rates will have to rise, some day, and central banks will have to unwind their insane positions ... some day ... and the carnage that is awaiting us all cannot be avoided. Some are looking to place the blame for the bubble popping on the Brexit vote, but things probably will stabilize before they really go to the place they have to go to. Also, the 20 mph under law. Roads also have a minimum mph, usually 20 under the posted speed limit. So 50 - 20 = 30. That's a constant. Up hills, down hills, level ground, etc. Don't do 30 mph, you're impeding traffic. If I'm in a beater car doing 25, you can bet your ass I'm getting pulled over. ...The British people have indicated that they will no longer outsource their future to the EU, and prefer to chart their own path forward. The United States can learn from the referendum and attend to the issues of security, immigration and economic autonomy that drove this historic vote. In addition, we should treat the 'Brexit' as an opportunity to forge a closer partnership with our historic friend and ally, including immediately starting negotiations for a targeted US-UK free trade agreement. ted cruz Posted by: artisanal 'ette at June 24, 2016 01:29 PM (qCMvj) 426
>> Expect a new election in November so the elite can nullify
>> this vote. Nah. There's already a petition circulating to, in traditional EU style, keep holding referenda until they get the result they want. But it won't happen. Cameron's problem was that while he was pimping for Remain, and while he managed to keep most of his cabinet on-side, Tory VOTERS were very much Leave. What happened in the referendum yesterday is that far more Labour voters than expected - particularly outside the London fever swamp - went Leave. Corbyn's efforts on behalf of Remain were so tepid, and his history re the EU so weak, that there's rumors going around that he actually voted Leave. So you've now got Labour split over the thing, too, with the rump Blairite Europhile contingent trying to lever Corbyn out, but the result yesterday ought to give them pause, it doesn't show a Labour party constituency that's all that fond of Europe. 395 may I say that I prefer riding a bicycle on the sidewalk in some parts of my neighborhoods.
I had to ditch once because a car just kept creeping over more and more to the side as they took a corner, and never even noticed me. So yeah, I prefer sidewalks, where its legal. PLEASE Wear something BRIGHT!!! Use lights, especially at night. The new LED lights are bright and don't use many batteries. Drivers cannot avoid you if they don't see you. This applies to pedestrians too! Posted by: rd at June 24, 2016 01:32 PM (v0YLX) 434

The likes of Ryan, McConnell and Corker (and many more) have been pulling the elitist wool over our eyes for a very long time, and we have repeatedly fallen for it. Our side (formerly) was probably worse than the Dems. At least the Dems made it clear they were the elite. ===================== To great fanfare, of course. A couple of weeks ago, a customer handed me a 1985 1 DM coin by mistake. I stared at it for about 10 seconds. Times sure have changed. Posted by: mrp at June 24, 2016 01:56 PM (JBggj) 491
I will go to the store today and get me a bunch of stuff from the UK. As long as it is not from N. Ireland or Scotland -- they can stuff it.

The only product that I can think of that was made in N Ireland was the DeLorean.

With the Hermione bit; JKR went off the rails there. She admitted that "some of the characters had their own minds" and well, it was Hermione.
I don't know what JKR meant, but what she wrote was a white girl madly in love with Harry Potter (funniest thing ever to me was in book 6, after Dumbledore dies. Harry's got his everloving girlfriend Ginny, who he is allegedly in love with. Who, pray tell, actually goes looking for him to see if he's alright? It sure wasn't Ginny, I'll tell you that. It was Hermione, the girl who was crying her eyes out over Ron.... until things got serious and she promptly drops Ron like a fruitcake and hunts down Harry to make sure Harry is ok.) Also: It boggles the mind that a group of people as nasty as Draco Malfoy and company wouldn't have hurled racist remarks at Hermione if they could. "Muggle" was the substitute for bigotry, and they certainly used that often enough. A black Muggle? Please, Hermione wouldn't have lasted a week at Hogwarts. No way she was black. The Dow was down 500+ points the day Sparky won his first real election.

She's a liar. She never meant for Hermione to be
black and if she had she would have gone out of her way to mention it like the she did with minor characters like Lee Jordan or Dean Thomas in every freaking book. She's just virtue signalling to show she's "down with the struggle." Posted by: Serenity Now! at June 24, 2016 01:05 PM (BDZWU) AND she retained absolute control over the casting of the movies. If she considered Hermione to be black, she wouldn't have green-lighted Emma Watson for the role.I'm a fan of the books, too, so I wish she'd stop annoying me.
