Secret Service Tell-All: Clintons Believed They Had Magic Pot of Royal Money to Pay For Their Every Whim

The Clintons made their money the old-fashioned way: Graft.

In a new book, a former Secret Service uniformed officer accuses Bill and Hillary Clinton of acting as if they had a “magic royal pot” of taxpayer money at their disposal while living in the White House.

According to Byrne, the Clintons threw official events at the White House to woo people without regard to the cost to taxpayers.
“As soon as Mr. Clinton became the president, Mrs. Clinton and her staff sought to repair the Clinton brand among groups they thought had been damaged during the campaign, scheduling galas, balls, and dinners,” Byrne writes. “They hosted open house tours day and night, especially around Christmas and for the military. What she and her staffers failed to realize was that the White House had a budget like any other government entity. Each shindig still had to be paid either from the Executive Residence budget or the Democratic Party’s purse.”
According to Byrne, “Early on, the staff kept promising payments but it was common knowledge that they had no idea of where they were coming from. But the buck kept getting passed because Mrs. Clinton didn’t want to hear ‘no,’ and no one wanted to be the bearer of bad news. Evergreen was spoiled.”

More: Emails show State Department knew that appointment of Clinton big-dollar donor to sensitive security posting was a sham.

Eye Update: I think I took a positive turn yesterday night/today. I can read a little easier now (easily on the Kindle, not so easily on the computer, but still better than I had been reading) and sometimes my long distance vision gets pretty clear. Still fuzzy, still doubled images, but better than it was -- bigly. I can read some street and store signs, sometimes, for example.

I might have pretty good vision by Sunday.

The average cost of an official state dinner in the Clinton presidency was about $300,000. Pretty much the same as under both Bushes. In Obama' first term --- (I dunno about 2nd) --- it was pushing $2,000,000.

The salaries of WH chefs are paid by the tax-payer via the Residence account.

Now, purely "political" events are supposed to be paid by the Party, but there are a lot of ways to fudge this.

Let's say you want to entertain your black supporters. You call a conference, perhaps via HUD, on discrimination in housing. You have a couple of meetings, which few attend, then a banquet and concert at the WH, paid for by HUD.

I doubt that. There was a mini-scandal during his first term because the Obamas hired a WH event planner who owned a DC event planning company known for putting on over the top affairs. And he - this is so surprising - hired his own company to put on all of the large parties he planned as the WH event planner. The were spending a lot on these events, such as expensive wine (that's why they stopped including wine details on the published menus), etc.

Ahhh...When you said Indiana, Lodi WI, and Ottawa, I thought you may be from IL (there is a decent range in Ottawa IL).
I wouldn't call myself a shooter but I like to shoot. Joined the ASC earlier this year because it has a 600 yard range (and 100,200,400, pistol, shotgun, archery, yada yada). and I can be there in less than an hour. And I'm in the Chicago burbs. Nothing else like that around here.

Bayless's restaurants are fussy, overrated and definitely overpriced. I ate at both Frontera Grill and Topolobampo a few times (they were only a couple of blocks from corporate HQ and I tried them just to avoid yet another steak dinner at Smith and Wolensky's) and was annoyed at the pretension. But I understand how people in Chicago who don't know Mexican food would think they are the bees knees. Chicago has a large and vibrant Mexican-American community, but it's a little too "ethnic" for most of the city's elite.

When I lived in Chicago, my favorite Mexican restaurant was Lalo's. Authentic and delicious, and I see from their website that they are now up to six locations. I really miss their guisado de lomo en chile de arbol and the home made tamales, too.
