According to the article I read, he was never convicted, therefore did not lie on his forms.

However, a gun store does have full discretion as to who they will and will not sell to, and with this man's history, they decided they should not sell him a gun.

I do not have a problem with that. Like any place (unless you are a baker who doesn't want to bake gay wedding cakes), gun stores can and will refuse service if they feel the customer is off or may put their business at risk.

Drunkard: A Hard-Drinking Life. By Neil Steinberg. June 2008. 288p. Dutton, $24.95

In 2005 a drunk Steinberg was arrested for hitting his wife. (When he asked why she called 911, she replied, "Nobody hits me, Buddy.") Forced by the court into rehab, Steinberg chronicles his journey to sobriety, following a circuitous route that included plenty of stops in local watering holes along the way. Steinberg initially wants no part of rehab or Alcholics Anonymous. For one thing, he doesn't believe in a higher power, and if he did, he would not be inclined to surrender to it. Nor does he have much affection for his fellow addicts, "characters in a mediocre play." What he loves is booze, and his tone turns almost jaunty as he describes his lapses. He wants a sophisticated life where he can drink, hoping liquour will turn his nebbish-like persona into Mike Royko.

Cheap drunk:

At a hearing last month, Steinberg said he planned to use a public defender who was a friend to represent him because he "harbored the chance" the case might be dismissed and didn't want to pay a private attorney.

A judge told Steinberg, who is also a member of the newspaper's editorial board, that public defenders represent only indigent people who can't afford attorneys and asked the public defender, Jeanne Bishop, to immediately withdraw from the case, which she did.

Yeah, guy comes in and announces he's a journalist trying to prove how easy it is to buy a gun, claims he'll shoot it once then give it to the police, and starts grilling the owner on how guilty he must feel about all the people killed by guns he's sold. The owner no doubt saw this set-up - who knows what Steinberg would have really done w/the gun, and then accused the store owner of aiding and abetting it?

Steinberg was charged with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of domestic battery after his wife called 911 in September and reported abuse, police said. Or I get the format of my address wrong (ST insead of Street, Ave instead of Avenue). I don't know my address as it is in the national registry of street addresses. I've had people tell me they can't find my address because I used an abbreviated form that doesn't match the USPS database. What then? I get charged with falsifying a government form?

What if I claim to be a loyal member of the National Democrat Party, and I'm really registered as an independent, or I get my gender wrong?

That's why you buy from a local gun store. Chain stores generally man the gun counter like they would the apparel department, i.e., with minimal training on the product or the applicable laws. What training there is is simplified to "if you have any question at all about the sale, don't complete it." Sometimes you get someone who has retired from some other career but has spent their life around guns and knows and stays abreast of current laws as well as what's going on in the industry. In contrast, your locally-owned gun shops are almost exclusively manned by that type person.

Fun Facts:

Steinberg was charged with one count of domestic battery and one count of interfering with the reporting of domestic battery. Each of the misdemeanors can carry a sentence of up to one year.

Case was dropped when the Mrs said she was no longer afraid* and Steinberg was reported to have been in "total compliance" with his AA program, which consisted of meetings five days a week for six hours a day and attending Alcoholics Anonymous.* Which we know from his later book was a fib. We was backsliding.

208 "Loretta Lynch: Most effective response to Islamic terrorism is love"

Every time I begin to think I'm getting used to life in Bizarro-World, I get smacked with something like this.

Posted by: Cloyd Freud

As a believing Christian, you are supposed to follow the teachings and life of Jesus Christ.
Jesus gave two new commandments to supplement the Ten in the Old Testament.
Love God before all things
Love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Who is your neighbor?
Jesus taught the parable of the Good Samaritan (the Jews of Judea hated the Samarians because they were their godless cousins that had lapsed in their faith, according to old story).
Jesus also went into the Temple in Jerusalem and whipped the money-changers and sacrifice sellers, who had defiled the Great Temple.

So when a Muslim goes into a church and defiles it (say like the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul) or some other well known places, and a Muslim puts the life of Mohammed above the Life of Christ, what's a fella to do?

I don't think that Jesus wanted us to turn the other cheek to a mass murderer. His judgement of Herod was rather harsh, also.
I think that Jesus would reserve his love and tenderness to the victims, though they be sinners (like the rest of us).
And Loretta Lynch is a fool.

As far back as they want to spend the money/manpower to look.

Most arrest records are on computer if occurred after WWII. (Sometimes further depending on where you got arrested and they had a computer then)

Most of the NCIC goes back to when the FBI was founded. So Federal Crimes? Yessirree they've got 'em. Pinhook Indiana? Probably not even from last week.

With all the talk of finding guns at the bottom of lakes, there is a twenty five video series on Youtube of a guy using electrolysis to restore a 45 that was found after decades of being in the weather.
This thing started as a barely recognizable lump.

And by the end of the series, he was putting rounds downrange with it.

Well, unless you got caught doing it publicly and/or got arrested for it, probably you'll get away with lying on the form.

But technically, it IS a lie.

Remember; a lie is only a lie if someone can prove it.
