Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | NY Magazine Dramatically Edits Story from "Stop Bugging Hillary Clinton About Giving a Press Conference" to "Why Hillary Clinton is Avoiding Giving Press Conferences"In both cases, it's an alleged member of the press pressplaining why Hillary shouldn't talk to the press and why other people in the press saying she should talk to the press should just shut the hell up. But the original said some Mean Things about Hillary Clinton, like the fact that no one likes her and she isn't as good at lying about her lies as she needs to be. So, it looks like someone from Team Hillary called up New York magazine, read them the riot act, and had the article rewritten to be even more pro-Hillary than it originally was.

Don't see why anyone would be annoyed at your noting the very sad news of the day, Jane. These tragedies have been noted and discussed as details emerged throughout the day.

Hey Bruce! Did you see the Leaning Tower of Elon come into port today? I posted links in a couple of threads to a woman who was streaming it live. Something called Periscope which I've never heard of, but apparently it lets you upload cell phone video in real time.
As to why it was leaning, SpaceX released photos of the landing. One of the legs really got hammered. https://www.flickr.com/photos/spacex/27349970361/in/photostream/ It landed dead center, but since one leg was compressed, the opposite leg was in the air, causing it to rock back and forth with the wave motion. It "walked" right to the edge of the deck. If the crew hadn't gotten it secured, it would have gone over the side. The big yellow crane's got it now, so it's OK. I'm watching Ice Station Zebra and when I watch old movies I often look them up on IMDb. Two interesting, possibly connected, trivia points.
1) This was Rock Hudson's favourite film of his own. 2) Only two women appear in the film: One is a barmaid at the far end of the bar when Rock Hudson receives a phone call; The other is seen embracing somebody, before Rock Hudson enters another pub. Combing through a decade's worth of unanswered emails to the Mohammed Image Archive. One of them said this:
" I just want to thank you for a terrific website, that helps me as a researcher. Appreciatively Yours, [name] Professor of xxx [famous university] and Distinguished Professor [different famous university]." I was writing a quick thank-you note back, with apologies for a years-long delay in replying, when on a whim I Googled the person's name. My oh my. Turns out this person who emailed me literally a living legend, a "contemporary philosopher" on a par with the great philosophers of the 19th century, and has been showered with accolades, awards and positions. And then I dug a bit deeper to find that...they are also a flaming leftist who has written treatises in praise of the Frankfurt School and "the long march through culture" to total socialist revolution, and so forth. But, most of this stuff was written in prior decades. They're pretty elderly now, so not much current stuff online in a two-minute search. Hmmmm. So I kept elaborating in reply, and ended up sending this email back: --- "Dear xxx, Sorry for taking four years to reply -- I get thousands of emails every month to the Mohammed Image Archive and generally do not have time to answer them all. Now I am taking two months to try to catch up on a ten-year backlog of correspondence! Thanks for writing -- glad to hear that the Archive is helpful to the academic community. Having said that: To the extent that I can decipher your overly intellectualized and euphemized political beliefs, as typified for example at [website giving text of speech the person gave], you seem to be enthused by the whole Marxist/radical/revolutionary/leftist framework, a fact which I find more than a bit depressing. Even though I myself self-identified as a liberal/leftist earlier in life, my outlook underwent a complete reversal after the shock of 9/11 (or, more accurately, after the shock of witnessing first-hand the leftist applause for what happened on 9/11). I can only hope that you too "saw the light" in recent decades/years (that lecture you gave, after all, was from the '90s), and you are less enamored of the Frankfurt School and it heinous influence on Western civilization. In my view, any kind of utopianism leads inexorably to coercive totalitarianism, so that all utopian fantasies and schemas, such as Marxism and its many descendants, are inevitably fascistic in their ultimate implementation. So the root problem is the urge to construct a "perfect society" in the first place. It matters not what type of society is envisioned, or by what route one seeks to achieve it. Ultimately, for the utopia to be created, individuals and individualism must be crushed, and then any evidence of the crushing be memory-holed. It is this cycle (the attempt to impose utopia, and then to suppress evidence of the horrors of such implementation) that has caused 90% of suffering throughout modern history. Anyway, despite our possible political differences, I'm glad I could be of service! -- zombie Posted by: zombie at June 02, 2016 08:47 PM (jBuUi) 122

Hobart resident Carlos Villarreal squabbled with Veterans Affairs officials for months over getting an MRI to assess his nerve damage from a mortar attack in Iraq. He finally had the test done 2,000 miles away.
The disabled Marine veteran gets his care through Jesse Brown VA Medical Center on Chicagos West Side, but that facility doesnt have an open MRI, which he says he needs because of claustrophobia from his post-traumatic-stress disorder. He tried to have the testing done locally under the Veterans Choice Act, which is supposed to allow vets to seek care in the community if they cant get treatment quick or close enough through the VA. The law was passed in response to the discovery that dozens of veterans in Phoenix had died while waiting for care. But problems with that programs vendor for Northwest Indiana, Health Net Federal Services, have left many veterans unable to make appointments and many providers not getting paid in a timely fashion. Villarreal, 31, was one of several Region vets featured in a December Times article that documented issues with the program. Then in March, he went on vacation to Puerto Rico. While he was down in the U.S. territory, he stopped at a local VA medical center. He found it had an open MRI. He had the testing on the spot. A) Were you there? Do you know what happened exactly?
B) Wars are not fought only on sunny pleasant days Posted by: Nevergiveup at June 02, 2016 08:59 PM (Ozsfq) A) No I was not there and no one, including me, will never know exactly what went wrong. B) Yes, in the real world, wars are fought 24/7 independent of the weather, lack of supplies, ratio of enemy forces to your forces, etc. C) "Train like you fight, Fight like you train!" makes sense, but crossing a low water ford in flood conditions at all costs just doesn't seem like good training. i just ignored alien orders. like the time i was told to drive my 113 down a nearly vertical slope on Planet Irwin... i said nope. sgt gave me an order, and i still said nope. he told me to get in back and he'd drive. i said nope, i'll just stand over there, get out my camera, and take some photos... then go see about getting an 88 and the medics the rest of the crew said, we're with him. the "nco" backed down and we took a sane route instead. there's a whole lot of stupid people in uniform. Sobering - well, most of us who know such things are already fairly sober about serious things like this - the losses in WWII. Single battles with more KIA than multi-year campaigns now. And the US had it "easy", comparatively, in WWII. Posted by: rhomboid at June 02, 2016 09:14 PM (QDnY+) 188

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the British regarded any training exercise where there were not 10% casualties (injuries, although occasional deaths as well) as not training hard enough.
I don't think that has ever been US policy since every injury seems to get written up and investigated but there is something to that idea of training hard so that fewer people are lost in combat. Posted by: Obnoxious A-Hole at June 02, 2016 09:15 PM (QHgTq) 191

I don't think there has ever been a Thunderbirds and a Blue Angels crash on the same day. At least I've never heard of it. Talk about a one in a million shot.
I've seen the Blue Angels numerous times, all the way back to F-4 Phantoms. There used to be a Naval Air Station just a couple of miles from my house. They would be there for the weekend, and we would usually go to the show one day and sit in the front yard the other day watching them fly over the neighborhood. I've only seen the Thunderbirds twice. One day it was very windy and I was worried about them flying in close formation. The announcer said that it wasn't a problem because the wind affected all the planes simultaneously. On low passes I could actually see it. The tight formation was buffeted as a unit. I struggle, as a Christian, with Hillary Clinton as a person. I am not to hate anyone - Jesus Christ likens hatred of someone to being a violation of the commandment on killing. I am called to love my enemy, to treat them with compassion and care.
But she is the single most wholly despicable, horrific, evil human being I have been confronted with in my life. There have been worse people, there are probably worse people in the world right now. But she's in my house, she's in my face. And she will probably be my president. That's really difficult for me to deal with. I end up having thoughts about her and fury that I know isn't proper. Even President Obama, as much as I dislike his policies, I find things about him to admire, like how he is with kids. Hillary seems completely devoid of any thing admirable at all, no positives, not a single aspect except hard, cold villainy. And all those "more evil" people I can think of? I can easily see her doing all that they do and more in their place. The only thing that restrains her is opportunity and situation, not any moral code. God help me I despise this woman. I cannot think of anything bad happening to her that wouldn't make me smile a grim, cold grin. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at June 02, 2016 09:28 PM (39g3+) 217

The problem they had with the VA was the VA wanted to drug them into some sort of state, and they refused. Their parents tried to talk to the VA. Nothing. Son wears a black wrist band in honor of his dear buddy who killed himself, an no one saw it coming. Son stays in touch with dead buddy's dad. The family never saw it coming. Love the Blue Angels. They are beautiful. Five-six F-18s flying in tight formation make a special sound. What's almost as impressive as their formation flying is watching them try to regroup after a particular maneuver. Say a "fleur de lis." Once they come out of it they are scattered all over the place but they have a regroup point. The guy closest to that point is dragging flaps, maybe gear, while the guys who came out farthest from that point are absolutely hauling balls to get back to it. It's all also quite the show. Whether it had anything what so ever to do with this accident is another thing.
Yeah, its hard to imagine its completely unrelated, for me at least. Even Jesus had limits.... But when Jesus went off, it was because His Father was being disrespected and His temple being treated like trash. I have no hesitation being angry when God is mocked. I don't have to defend God, though. He will deal with it; His own son took care of things that time. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at June 02, 2016 09:37 PM (39g3+) 243

Chicago has a pretty nice Air and Water show in August. I wish I knew more to appreciate it like that. Posted by: dartist at June 02, 2016 09:47 PM (qmou8) 261

back in the late 80's, my then unit went to Ft Hood for AT, in support of the TXNG.
there was an engineering unit who had a much loved member who got bounced out of the back of a truck on the tank trail, who suffocated on his plug of chewing tobacco. the unit was demoralized, so the CO arranged Huey flights for all. a chalk gets on one of the birds, it takes off, then looses it's tail rotor, crashes back to earth and explodes into flame, killing everyone on board. my next to last chopper ride was on my 30th birthday. i was holding a bag of urine samples, and the Huey i was in got caught in a downdraft in the San Jacinto pass near Palm Springs... our pilot managed to get us turned around (Nam Vet), and we wind surfed our way back to Palm Springs Int. when we got on the ground, the air speed indicator was reading 75 knots and we weren't moving, except to bounce up and down on the pavement. my last ride in one was the next morning, when we flew home in instruments through the fog. i'm never getting on another. He was too young to know what he was doing, and I don't mean mechanically. At 13 you aren't prepared emotioanally or intellectually to handle sex. He wasn't old enough to make rational, proper choices in the situation. That's why we say "too young." because he is, you know, too young. It doesn't matter what fantasies people have or had. It doesn't matter how physically pleasing it might be. Its like eating that entire bucket of Halloween Candy in one sitting. Mom says not to do it because its a bad idea, no matter how much you like candy. When you're 9, that makes no sense and is horribly unjust. You're too young to make that call. 285 Some years ago the Blue Angels were featured at an air show in my locale, which we made sure to experience. I had to work during the week prior, but my boys, old enough to stay home alone, spent a glorious week watching them practice their maneuvers almost directly over our house.
Posted by: Pug Mahon at June 02, 2016 09:55 PM (jf492) Yes, as I said earlier, I was very lucky to see them flying right over my house on a number of occasions. Right, and they're doing so because they don't understand their sexuality, their beauty, and the power they wield. Making a 20 something guy flustered and nervous by vamping on him makes her feel really good and really powerful and really excited. But she doesn't know what it means - or if she does something awful has happened to her in the past. That's the whole point. They're young. They're still kids, teenager or not. They aren't grown up yet or ready for anything of the sort. They're just beginning to learn and test the boundaries and find out how it works. Only a monster takes advantage of that. My point (unnecessary) was that the vast majority of young teenage girls who had sex with a much older male rate the experience as creepy, unsatisfactory, coerced, etc., while the converse is true when you flip the genders. Posted by: iforgot at June 02, 2016 10:25 PM (5o5ek) They are not the same situation, and the laws need to be written differently. Adult male > pubescent female: Obviously rape, statutory or otherwise. Throw the book at him. Adult female > pubescent male: I don't know what to call it, but it isn't rape. I don't know what the proper penalty should be, but it shouldn't be as severe as the above case. Clearly she has no business teaching and should lose her license at a minimum. One-size-fits-all laws do nobody any good. Posted by: rickl at June 02, 2016 10:35 PM (sdi6R) 411
That every adult male thinks they should be envious of a 13 year old blowing a load and impregnating a teacher is indicative of other societal rots.
The law is pretty clear here. Posted by: sven10077 at June 02, 2016 10:24 PM (g8Hfr) Agreed about the law, but a bunch of guys wishing they were in his shoes with her isn't necessarily indicative of societal rot. Refuse, absolutely refuse, to answer any question about illegal immigration that does not precede "immigration" with the modifier "illegal". If asked about "immigration" or "immigrants", wax eloquent about how immigrants have built America, etc. DO NOT discuss illegal immigration outside of a context that clearly specifies it as a crime. Play dumb with them, until they come clean about what they are really asking, and DO NOT let them conflate being against illegal immigration with zenophobia, racism, etc. DAMMIT MAKE THEM MIS-QUOTE YOU TO GET THE "QUOTE" THEY WANT, AND THEN GUT THEM! He might be a bit confused but he's probably thinking of this quote in the Anderson Cooper interview with Gary Johnson You know, coming from New Mexico, a border state, what he's saying is just incendiary. New Mexico is one of the four minority majority states. Fifty percent of the population of New Mexico is Hispanic, so what does that mean when we're going to deport 11 million illegal immigrants? Well, arguably, half the state of New Mexico is going to be subject to door-knocking and house searches and paper-checking. I think people who have been deeply unhappy and have felt betrayed for so long often turn against others, but its only God who can feel that void in her heart ad soul, and she doesn't think she needs God so she's as rich as Croesus, so at the same time I dislike her I pity her.

Well, since we're just hanging around waiting for the ONT I can give a sneak peak at tomorrow's EZ Dog diary:
June 3, 1944 We moved CP to Velletri today - in a beautiful villa (running water and electric lights) on the side of a very beautiful hill. There is very little sign of war here - a welcome relief. Velletri itself is badly torn up but we are about a mile out of town. Our villa was formerly occupied by members of the German high command. They moved out day before yesterday. This morning our wire crew captured a Kraut 1st Sgt in the air raid shelter that goes with the house. The front is moving forward so fast we hear only faint sounds from the front. Lanuvio was cleaned up today and troops move on to Genzano, below Lake Nemi, and Rocca di Papa north of the lake. II Corps advanced within 7 miles and probably less of Rome. Our armor was last reported South of Lake Albano. Today the front as a whole has moved farther than any other since the 3d Div took Cori. FWIW, I've been having an interesting time trying to nudge a progressive that I know to the right.
She is 50-something, and very 'Progressive' She had mentioned that she was concerned about the invasion of our lives by computers and data-gatherers. In a rare moment of insight, I sensed an opportunity. I tucked a copy of 'Ctrl-Alt-Revolt' into the truck, and the next time I ran into her, I casually mentioned that after our last conversation about computers invading our lives, she might find this book an interesting read. I didn't expect her to even finish it, but a week later she told me, 'Wow, that was a great book'. Heh. I was surprised. So a week or so later, I gave her a copy of 'An Act of Self-Defense'. I really could not imagine that she would read it, but, another week goes by and (with concern) she asks, 'Do you think these things are actually happening?' I assured her that the powers-that-be have very little regard for the population (whatever their rhetoric), and a great deal of concern for their own power and position, all of which is derived from control of the people. This week, I dropped 'Shelleys Heart' on her. This is getting interesting. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at June 02, 2016 11:23 PM (J3phO) 557

Bruce, thanks for the link on Hillary's very serious classified info violations. Just one thing to note, the article says the situation is "reminiscent of the Valerie Plame scandal".
Jeebus. There was *no* scandal involved in that - apart from the bizarre and still inexplicable behavior of the WH in reaction to the stupid op-ed, and also the fact that George kept his job as DCI even after that nth confirmation that his agency was packed full of stupid unprofessional sorts. Hillary has stopped giving press conferences for the same reason since she entered the national scene running up to the '92 election. People fucking hate her, even her supporters. They like the idea of her all right but Hillary in the flesh is about as appealing as toe fungus.
Every time she opens that piehole of hers and screeches out at everyone, her ratings go down. Happened all the time in the 90s. She'd disappear, her approvals went up, she showed up popping off about something, and bang, down they went again. The MSM literally carried her across the finish line in that NY Senate race. Posted by: Seamus Muldoon ---------- I've never effected a philosophical shift of a Lefty before... but this may actually work. We'll see. Thanks for the diary entry. Always very interesting. As an aside, some notes from Verdun, 100 years ago now: -- They must be crazy to do what they are doing now: what a bloodbath, what horrid images, what a slaughter! I just cannot find the words to express my feelings. Hell can not be this dreadful. People are insane! - Alfred Joubaire (???- 1916), French soldier (last diary entry) ----- There is nothing as tiring as the continuous, enormous bombardment we lived through, last night at the front. The night is disturbed by light as clear as if it were day. The earth moves and shakes like jelly. And the men who are still at the front line cannot hear anything but the gunfire, the moaning of wounded friends, the screams of hurt horses, the wild pounding of their own hearts, hour after hour, day after day, night after night. (anon German soldier at Verdun) ------ You could never get rid of the horrible stench. If we were on leave and we were having a drink somewhere, it would only last a few minutes before the people at the table beside us would stand up and leave. It was impossible to endure the horrible stench of Verdun. - a French survivor of the battle Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at June 02, 2016 11:40 PM (9mTYi) 591
