10 Have you noticed a curiously large number of comments in various comment-permitting fora that are some variation of: "I voted for Cruz, but he ran a shitty campaign and Trump is the nominee and I will support him."

Why do I question the sincerity of these comments?

First of all, it's all too convenient that this formulation would start showing up now. Second, it's exactly what the Trump supporters want... that supporters of other candidates will "get on the Trump train;" and they probably think that it's more persuasive if this imperative is coming from other supporters of defeated campaigns. Third, it's the inevitable dig... "Cruz ran a shitty campaign" that just so neatly fits the nastiness of the Trump campaign: Yeah, we want your support, but we can't help ourselves making one more dig to rub it in.

12 Good morning all.

The EZ Dog Journal from this date in 1944-

June 2, 1944
36 Div finished off Velletri. Some 250-300 PW's. Other fronts ioncluding II Corps and Eighth Army moving well forward. Official count thru VI Corps cage is well over 6,500 PW's, which is more than they took through the entire Italian campaign up to the time the present offensive started. Camino fell to our troops late in period. Mopping up continues.
The fog of battle hangs over all the country. Smoke, fog, and dust limits visibility to barely a mile. Without the war, undoubtedly this would be beautiful spring weather.

Sometimes my dad's writing bordered on poetic.

MPPP, that's fascinating. I went in search of more info on her, and happened to come across this. Stevie Nicks actually wrote a song about Mabel, and how she saw her life paralleling Mabel's back in her wild days.

16 "I voted for Cruz, but he ran a shitty campaign and Trump is the nominee and I will support him."

Cruz's campaign had some flaws. Scott Walker asked for others to quit a long time ago. John Katshit was most of the problem. Had it been Trump vs Cruz for a longer period of time I think things may have been different. That said, I can't vote for Trump-yet. Maybe I will maybe I wont.

Cruz did run a shitty campaign and declined to attack the dems in general and Skankles in particular like Trump has. Someone just needs to state the obvious about this administration and its lackeys, including the MSM.

Trump hasn't done that to the extent I think it needs to be done, but Im gonna vote for him. Someone has to run the country and its gonna be him, Skankles or Bernie the buffoon.

49 ACLU's Georgia director mugged by reality (sidebar):

The
African-American woman who leads a state chapter of the ACLU has
resigned, citing her own daughters' "frightened" reaction to biological
males using the women's restroom.

"I
have shared my personal experience of having taken my elementary school
age daughters into a women's restroom when shortly after three
transgender young adults, over six feet with deep voices,
entered," she wrote. "My
children were visibly frightened, concerned about their safety and left
asking lots of questions for which I, like many parents, was
ill-prepared to answer," she continued.

In
a statement, she said that the ACLU has become "a special interest
organization that promotes not all, but certain progressive rights."

The "hierarchy of rights" the ACLU chooses to defend or ignore, she wrote,
is "based on who is funding the organization's lobbying activities."

Gee, who is funding them?

50 So the judge in the case against Trump University is a member of La Raza.

No conflict there, right? No possibility that a La Raza member, a man who has given law school scholarships to illegal aliens, would have some sort of bias against Trump.

68 Obama is making Judge Hannen the bad guy for attempting to enforce the law. It's very personal.

If a Republican did this there would be hell to pay. Every newspaper in the country would be outraged. There would be stories about the judge's backstory, his kids attempts to deal with living as the child of a famous political prisoner, the brave court workers worried about armed assault from armed Presidential agents...

Hanen caught the government lying. Repeatedly. Now, Obama is trying to make him the issue rather than the behavior of his scumbag Justice Department lawyers.

71 Funny story on the new sodium guidelines.

About a year ago I actually had a conversation with my doctor about them, in relation to some questions I had about stocking food (FWIW, it was about whether freeze dried food that was high in sodium was a good thing to survive on for a month or two). He said the better way to think about sodium guidelines is as a floor, not a ceiling, and the real issue with sodium is that otherwise healthy people don't hydrate enough. If you are taking in too much sodium, your system is designed to flush out the excess, provided you're getting enough water.

You need salt to live...your cells won't function properly without it. The same cast of characters saying salt is the enemy was also preaching low/no fat diets for the general population and, well, that turned out to be misguided.

A
transgender activist --- a biological male who goes by the name Cheryl

No one who has seen LGBT activists in action will be surprised by this
charming response.

I'll hold my nose and vote for Trump to keep Hillary out - only because I think Trump won't be able to get anything through Congress once he's President. He doesn't have a Historic First card to protect him like Obama did, or Hillary would, and if he tried anything too crazy, he'll get impeached. With how popular he is with both parties, he wouldn't survive it.

As far as actually supporting him and talking him up? Pfft, no. I'm voting against Hillary. Trump is just the best chance (at present) of stopping her. If that changes, and I can vote for someone I like? I'll be thrilled, but in my analysis, that's not likely at all.

No matter who wins this election, if things remain as they are, there is no chance of anybody we like being put in the driver's seat. The real question is if you want the absolute evil that's going to be unopposed, or the sleaze weasel that's going to be a lame duck from day one?

With Hillary, we'll get a "pathway to citizenship" which will make the country go solid blue, and several new Lefty activist Supreme Court justices to continue shredding the Constitution. And our state secrets will continue to be for sale in exchange for speaking fees for Bill or sizable donations to the Clinton Foundation.

Exactly. Our certitude that Hillary is pretty much the Ultimate Evil should be enough. Trump is an extremely questionable character (and has extremely questionable character), but as long as we don't know that he's going to be as bad as Hillary (and even though I rank him alongside used car salesmen for trustworthiness, I strongly doubt that he would be), civic duty is to make sure she doesn't get in.

Why the need to blanket all people who support one candidate or another as teh worst?

This has become so tiresome. Has Ace not written numerous posts on this - not only on civility, bit on the reasons behind supporting one candidate or another is not only based on them, but the current situation (primaries vs. primaries over and not wanting the FAB as POTUS?!?

Ugh.

Yes. Apparently, if President Teh Donald gives the order to whack a terrorists' family, we're assured that the military will never follow such an unconstitutional order from a rogue C-in-C.

But at the same time, we're to believe that Trump will wake up one morning, yell, "nuke 'em high!" and Pyongyang will be lit up like a Christmas tree within the hour.

I swear people are simply making up any excuse they can find to dismiss Trump so they can parade their "TOLD YOU SO!"s if he loses.

1. I am not a democrat. Don't portray me as one or use ridicule to imply that I am one. Don't point me to Daily Kos or MoveOn.org. You should know better than that.

2. Some people have different ideas, different opinion. Some might even not to walk lock-step with you and that is their right. That's why we call it America.

3. On a personal note, Trump went out of his way to tear down Scott Walker, even after he had left the race. He said "Wisconsisn is doing poorly. Very poorly under Scott Walker." He then went on to criticize Walker's reforms. He said Walker should have raised taxes instead of "cutting" education (code for letting the teacher's union hold this state hostage". So he would have been on the opposing side during the recall. I have a big BIG problem with that.

4. I will think of more but my hands are shaking I am so upset.

1st - he is selling a 3 ton, 16 SEER Heat Pump vs. the other company's 3 ton, 14 SEER regular a/c unit.

2nd - ONCOR is offering $2500.00 rebates on heat pumps to be passed on to the consumer by a reduction on their invoice.

So, an invoice of $8212.00 installed for a 3 ton Heat Pump with an inside air handler unit came out to $5312.00 vs. $7200.00 quoted by the first company.

Ya think? The article goes on to mention a 44% hike in Vermont, 19% in one of the Carolinas, and moar bad news yet to come.

It doesn't mention that United Healthcare has pulled out of several major markets as well.

Thanks once again, 52%.

Like I said, nasty people.

One thing I always hated about the Obama Cult was how they could never be gracious in victory. Like the gay left when the SCOTUS imposed gay marriage on the country. They couldn't just take their victory, they had to rub it in the faces of the people who lost; the bakers, the florists, the people who just didn't agree.

The Trump Train seems to attract people of similar character.

Bullshit. Fucking DrewM posted an anti-Romney screed here every damn day. The sidebar was rdbrewer and was non-stop bashing of Romney. Some of the people on this site were the loudest anti-Romney types because he wasn't a True Conservative and the absurdity is they now support Trump.

It's friggin June 2nd. Nobody is voting for months. Trump hasn't even formally gotten the nomination yet. And he is an awful, shitty, no good crappy candidate whom nobody can predict what he would do if he actually won.

How about if Trump supporters do as I said and actually make a positive case for Trump. We all know how bad Hillary is, we all knew how bad a 2nd Obama term would be but that didn't get it done and those of us who thought Romney would make a good President didn't do a good enough job making that case obviously.

You need to do better if you want Trump to win because calling people who actually believe in conservative principles retards for not supporting a guy who is demonstrably not conservative is not a winning strategy.

The illegal aliens need to go or the welfare state needs to go because we can't afford both.

The islamic colonization of America needs to be stopped because we can't trust them not to try to impose sharia once they have the numbers to do so.

The current array of international "free trade" treaties need to be completely burned down because they facilitate the moving of jobs from here to slave labor overseas, which moves working Americans to the welfare roles, which we already can't afford. Additionally, they tend to benefit the chamber of commerce crowd whose influence in our politics must end.

If our nuclear weapons are to have any value, and we spent a ton to build them, and one hopes maintain them, the rest of the world must believe whoever is in the White House might use them. The Clintons and Bushes took them off the table and we got 9/11.

I'm late to this discussion, but I thought your AC unit died, not the whole heating and cooling system.

A heat pump is a compromise system used where you need heating and cooling. If you're still going to use a forced air natural gas furnace, I believe you're giving up cooling efficiency in a pure AC compressor/evaporator unit.

3 ton/16 SEER split systems run about $2 - $3K for the equipment. If the installer is just replacing an old system, no new duct work or relocating the compressor, the labor should be about the same.

Keep looking for a total cost of about $5K for a premium AC unit complete.

While I was dialing, his stupid dog ran out of my yard, right towards the busiest street in the neighborhood. I smashed my phone while grabbing "Shorty" by the collar and keeping him out of the radius of a turning bus. Fuckboy showed up just as I had brought/carried his dog back to the side streets, I gave him his dog. Then I got home and posted an account of the event on the same neighborhood FB page, and was immediately slammed for "shaming" and "bullying" the dog owner. He chimed in with some choice words himself. I went to the part of the street where I know he lives and called his name a few times last night, heard nothing in return. This morning I am banned from the FB group and need to go get a new phone.

=======================================

This is the stage where I think I'm at right now. I've been praying about this, because there is so much of Trump that just isn't right, and I don't know what to do. The other night when I was praying, the thought that invaded my head was this: "As far as it is up to you, restrain as much of the evil as you can." The picture that came into my brain was of two horses running wild into darkness, and I was riding on one of them, and I was pulling on the reins with all of my might.

Posted by: V the K at June 02, 2016 09:15 AM (O7MnT)

I criticized him plenty earlier, and I presently plan to vote for the man in the general. I called him a sleaze weasel, and said that his character was comparable to that of a used car salesman. That's just the simple unvarnished truth, and I don't think anyone would argue that point a whole lot. He's certainly not sainthood material.

I don't criticize his supporters. Insulting someone's intelligence and calling them names is not going to change their minds, it's only going to cause them to circle the wagons, dig in, and fight harder. It's completely unproductive, and I didn't do that when I started this cycle on Team Trump, or after I defected to Team Cruz (following the waffling on the Wall). This is a place for discussion and persuasion. If you want to do scorn and derision here, please direct it against Hillary, Bernie, etc. Not the only alternative choice we presently have.

Because it has nothing to do with trump. It is up the local Government, and ONLY the local government, to initiate an eminent domain action. And they do it for their own selfish reasons: HIGHER TAX RATES and more money in the local budget. You don't like the law fine, go change it. But to blame it on Trump is just out of line a weak argument. You don't like Trump fine, there are many reasons not to. Eminent Domain is weak real weak

384 Have you noticed a curiously large number of comments in various comment-permitting fora that are some variation of: "I voted for Cruz, but he ran a shitty campaign and Trump is the nominee and I will support him."

Posted by: V the K

And exactly how many times must Trump supporters praise Cruz before you'll get over it, V?

I'm not happy with Trump, but even I recognize that as of now Cruz is pretty much irrelevant.

Arrgh. All I am *asking* is why it's so damn hard for the Trump guys to be gracious in victory. I get that Cruz lost. I get that Walker lost. I get that Jeb, and Rubio, and all the other guys lost.

What I don't get it why it's so hard for the people who won not to be dicks.
Posted by: V the K at June 02, 2016 08:59 AM (O7MnT)

Well, I guess I'm part of that grand conspiracy of yours, V the K.

Cuz I supported Cruz and voted for him. And if you care to check, you'll find that in the comments of past threads.

You'll also find that around, oh say, January, that I was talking about how Cruz needed to start using his debate time addressing "kitchen table" issues and connecting with the voters-

Guess what? He never did. He kept up with his plan of "I'm the most conservative conservative what ever conserved" way past its sell date because people already knew that after 4-5 debates.

I knew that was a problem after I saw the Texas numbers- which should've been a blowout.

Cruz wasn't moving much beyond his base within the party.

It doesn't take much of a politician to get people who are for you and believe as you believe to vote for you-

a successful retail politician needs to bring in more people than that-

Cruz failed miserably at that.

But wait, there's more:

When Ben Carson started whining about Cruz' people saying that he was going to leave the race-

based on Carson's own people's press releases

What did Cruz do? In a year when people wanted a fighter.

Cruz weaseled around and apologized in essence for Carson's mistake-

That's good campaigning.

Instead, he should have said, "Hey Ben, that was your press release. Your mistake. A Good campaign requires good control you are failing to provide for that. Take responsibility for your mistakes and do better next time." Or words to that effect.

Lousy. Campaigning. You don't take blame for other's errors. It makes you look weak and/or disingenuous.

But, wait! There's more!

When Trump's rallies were disrupted by violent protests,

Cruz actually got up and blamed Trump first because of his speeches.

YUUUUGE mistake, which undercut the whole premise of Cruz being the most constitutional constitutionalist what ever constituted constitutionalizing.

If you're going to present yourself as Mr Constitution, then you damn well stand in the fire, and give a full throated support for Free Speech.

What you do not do is weasel around looking for political advantage on your signature issue and undercut your own image.

Lousy. Campaigning.

And I could go on.

If you want a Cruz presidency which I would like,

then you don't help him avoid future failure by whining about how great he was.

Cruz has some serious work to do in connecting his conservatism and constitutionalism to bread and butter/kitchen table issues that help and inspire voters outside his core group, which is exactly what Reagan did.

I guess all of this renewed whining is because Levin was all sour grapes (while denying he was sour grapes) about Trump's win and Cruz' loss and was whining his head off.

What's the endgame here? A Hillary! victory.

Yeah, great thinking there.

Kids raised on over 16 years of TFG/Hillary! anti-American unconstitutional criminal treasonous regimes are not going to have a single idea of what America is or is about.

Trump may only be a baby-step in the right direction but at least it's not the rocket-train to hell and destruction of the middle class and jobs that Hillary! represents.

Sure it is. Drew was proudly the anyone but Romney guy flipping between each and every candidate in turn including Perry and Newt and ending up with frigging Santorum before finally throwing in the towel. Restate and Erick Ericsson were quoted often here as was Phillip Klein because both of them were viscerally anti-Romney. Hell, Redstate banned anyone who had anything good to say about Romney. And besides, any vote I cast that doesn't have the name Hillary Clinton is a vote to keep Hillary out of the WH.

424 The Past is prologue. It is completely legitimate to predict the behavior of a Trump presidency based on how he ran his business operations and his campaign. In the same way, one can predict the behavior of a Clinton presidency based on her record.

The people who warned Obama would govern the country like a radical leftist community organizer were ultimately proven correct; those who predicted he would be moderate and a uniter (Kathleen Parker, Chris Buckley, David "Creasepants" Brooks) were proven wrong.

486 Why I'm a Trump trumpeter:

Donald Trump, lashing back at Barack Obama after the president waded forcefully into the presidential campaign, on Wednesday said Obama "doesn't have a clue" and threatened to turn his attacks on him in retaliation.

"This is a president who doesn't have a clue, Trump told supporters in Sacramento. "If he campaigns, that means I'm allowed to hit him, just like I hit Bill Clinton."

Trump's remarks followed an appearance by Obama in Elkhart, Ind., on Wednesday, where the president warned against the Republican Party's economic policies and said the GOP was misleading Americans on the condition of the economy.

Rallying supporters at a hangar at Sacramento International Jet Center, Trump said foreign leaders view Obama as a "total lightweight," and he said Obama should not involve himself in the campaign.

He shouldn't campaign," Trump said. "He should go out and do the job that he's supposed to be doing."

You know the Press loves a Trump candidacy right? They love to bait him and love to have something to write about that makes 'conservatism' appear in the worst light. Rhetorically you may have some satisfaction from Trump but they will just double down instead of crawling down a hole.

492 NGU wants us to believe that the Atlantic City local government decided all on its own to evict Vera Coking without any input or prodding from Trump. This claim strains credulity.Posted by: chemjeff

Did you ever see Atlantic City pre-casino? Drive down the street and see nothing but hookers, pimps, and drug dealers? I did.

You really think the Atlantic City government really wanted that? Or, the more reasonable explanation, they wished to transform the town and showed a willingness to work with developers to achieve that goal?

Serious question -- how old are you? I'm picking up a mid-20's vibe based on your lack of knowledge.

493 Romney was different than Trump. People were rightfully critical of his tepid campaigning style and his record as Governor of Massachusetts, especially Romneycare, were easy to criticize. But I don't think anyone doubted that he was a fundamentally decent man, or that his grasp of economics was far superior to Obama's. And I don't think you ever saw Romney attack other Republicans. He was rather a different animal.

That is the same type of cronyism that got us crap like Obama's stimulus, like a great deal of government spending, where it's just the connected class getting favors for themselves by bending government to their will.

Many people stay at the same institution for their bachelor's degree and their graduate degree(s), so 10 years might be the sum total of his entire time studying there, not just for a Ph.D.

Pure, unadulterated bullshit. A community redevelopment authority are hardly a good-old -boy network. I've personally worked with a local board to both fight for and against projects. There's no rubber stamp when developers come calling.

Except in your childish view.

502 Trump offered money for her house and she refused . Her house wasn't a drug den or a blight on the city. Next thing you know the city is envoking eminent domain. Who is being naive?

Trump also has said he totally agreed with the Kelo decision . A decision that some here sarcastically referred to ' As also not the hill to die on' . Now it's no big deal .

506 Trump offered her ten times accessed value. Do you know what you call someone who refuses that sort of offer? Brain addled.

Her heirs finally sold for half accessed value, iirc.

Yeah I can see a local government agency stepping in, in a situation like that. At least calling social services and getting a mental health evaluation.

Oh I see, so the CRDA decided to invoke eminent domain on a non-blighted, non-troublesome piece of property strictly on the merits, and not because Trump, a local billionaire(?) bigshot, wanted it?
What flavor of crack are you smoking? Are you that dense?

Posted by: chemjeff at June 02, 2016 10:28 AM (uAvJJ)

508 Trump offered her ten times accessed value. Do you know what you call someone who refuses that sort of offer? Brain addled.

And now you're doing the typical Trump shilling by inverting the burden of proof.

Vera Coking didn't have to justify why she didn't sell. The burden of proof is on Trump and his posse to justify why they thought it was right to seize her house using the force of the government to do so.

Calling her "brain addled" and crazy and stupid is just piling on the victim.

Posted by: chemjeff at June 02, 2016 10:30 AM (uAvJJ)

509 Sometimes I feel the eminent domain argument gets brought up too often. It reflects very poorly on Trump, but there are so many other things to criticize about the man.

But then every time it gets brought up, Trump fans try to defend the indefensible rather then simply acknowledging that they have already factored it into their decision to vote for him.

Posted by: person at June 02, 2016 10:32 AM (mFkVC)

510 And if Hillary Clinton had done the same thing - run to the local development board to try to get a non-blighted, non-troublesome piece of property (that just so happened to be adjacent to the Clinton Foundation offices) evicted so the Clintons could build a parking garage for the Foundation offices, would ANYONE here have any problems or qualms whatsoever in calling that out as an abuse of power?

Exactly. It speaks very poorly of Trump's fans when they try to pile on Vera Coking as some sort of crazy bitch, or try to defend his abuse of power.

515 So, totally off-I'm helping this church transition to a new pastor and we have to read and discuss a training manual not entirely relevant because it's not a normal transition. I'm an interim.

So you're supposed to have a reception for your new pastor, which will be no problem for them (They already had experience with the new guy being there and preaching several times and they like him. That's great@,. ), but I'm thinking of some of the little churches I served. One couldn't do a reception because we had to get in the car and I had to drive 15 minutes to the next church. I understand they couldn't do anything. A woman at the second church said, "We normally have coffee hour the second Sunday of the month. "

So no reception-no nothing. We stopped at the truck stop and got a cup of coffee on the hour drive home.

Now it just makes me laugh.
