Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Why I Hate The Media: A Continuing SeriesThink about the image that drives left-wingers crazy with anger. Maybe you don't know what the image is. I do. What drives left-wingers angry is the thought of a well-to-do suburban family. They've got some money. They have three cars. They have an intact marriage and children doing well in good schools. And they're kinda smug. They pose in a picture and smile in a way that makes leftists angry. They're not aware of all the suffering beyond the perimeters of their perfect lawns. Also, they think they have wisdom to share with the world. But, in the words of Barack Obama: You didn't build that. Even though this family is obviously doing something right, they have nothing to share with the world, because they haven't .struggled. They're not marginalized. They have it easy and soft and yet would lecture a poor person about how to become wealthier. Okay, so that's the image that makes all left-wingers left-wingers. Now here's the thing: What the fuck are Katie "Old Dracula" Couric and Brian Williams? These are the richest people any ordinary citizen will "know." Oh, there are wealthier people, don't get me wrong -- but they're people like Warren Buffet or Peter Thiel. These smug left-wing c*nts are rich and actually known to people. Why? Because they're on fucking TV. So we have these rich smug people, smiling smugly who have the World All Figured Out, ready to drop their Truth Bombs and Life Wisdom on at the slightest non-prompting. Katie Couric has so much wisdom to share with you about Responsible Gun Laws. Brian Williams has so much deep thinking to share with you about the shame we should feel at using the nuclear bomb on Japan. And what, precisely, gives these people moral authority to lecture the rest of us? Nothing. Katie Couric has written nothing of consequence. She is vapid morning chat show host who probably had a memoir ghost-written for her and "wrote" some stupid book about Famous Women in History or something -- a pure commercial play probably pitched to her by a book company. Like Tom Brokaw's The Greatest Generation was -- hey, Tom, we got an idea. How about we use your brand to sell a book that people will buy their dads on Father's Day? Brian Williams is in a different category, of course. He's written many books -- The Great Gatsby. Gone with the Wind. Judgement at Nuremburg. A little book called The Bible, a fictionalized memoir of his life. But still -- what right has he to lecture? So these people with their smug entirely unearned authority, their utter lack of any accomplishment apart from reading from scripts others have written for them and having skin that successfully sticks to pancake make-up, are here to lecture us. Rich people who think they can and should lecture their inferiors. Rich people that just happen to be the rich people you know the best because they have Television Programs (which a Peter Thiel does not -- but I bet makeup would stick to his face, too, and I bet he too could read a script written for him by someone else). And so we have this endless parade of smug, unaccomplished people who have literally achieved nothing -- this isn't a fake "You didn't build that," this is a real You didn't build that -- lecturing us, because they have some money, have nice houses, and can wear make-up reasonably well. If we're going to listen to the rich practitioners of any job, shouldn't we be listening to physics professors? Or philosophers? Political theorists? Actual thinkers? How about actual doers? Maybe a soldier who's actually struggled with more thank keeping down forehead glare under studio lights? Or doctors? Or, even, actual writers? Not mere newsreaders, but people who write and think long-form? No, of course not. Such people can be called in occasionally to lend their expertise on specific subject matters, but well-rounded intellects like Katie Couric, Brian Williams, and Tom Brokaw are here to Share Their Truth about the world on all nontechnical subjects -- you know, moral subjects. Like priests in the cult of the unblinking billion eyes of the television god. Who the fuck do these ghastly grinning pancake-makeup smeared brain-damaged communications majors think they fucking are? A society that worships carnival-barkers appearing on idiot boxes is a society that is already brain-dead and which should be euthanized out of simple mercy. Fuck them all to hell.Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

*** This is one of the lines of attack that an actual opposition party might use for the coming election. Most of the leadership of the Democrats/Left is wealthy, and specifically got wealthy through leveraging connections, if not explicit graft and corruption. In this Hillary is the platonic ideal of them.... The modern state and its administrator has gotten rich off of the backs of the taxpayers. There should be angry crowds outside of their houses and opposed to the Obama-rent-a-mobs outside of random bankers' houses... Posted by: 18-1 at May 27, 2016 03:12 PM (X7E8f) 12
One of my favorite bits, about William Hurt as the handsome, vapid anchor
Aaron Altman: I know you care about him. I've never seen you like this about anyone, so please don't get me wrong when I tell you that Tom, while being a very nice guy, is the Devil. Jane Craig: This isn't friendship. You're crazy, you know that? Aaron Altman: What do you think the Devil is going to look like if he's around? Jane Craig: God! Aaron Altman: Come on! Nobody is going to be taken in by a guy with a long, red, pointy tail! What's he gonna sound like? [hisses] No. I'm semi-serious here. Jane Craig: You're seriously... Aaron Altman: He will be attractive! He'll be nice and helpful. He'll get a job where he influences a great God-fearing nation. He'll never do an evil thing! He'll never deliberately hurt a living thing... he will just bit by little bit lower our standards where they are important. Just a tiny little bit. Just coax along flash over substance. Just a tiny little bit. And he'll talk about all of us really being salesmen. And he'll get all the great women. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at May 27, 2016 03:13 PM (39g3+) 13

This goes back to the idea that at one point, it seemed like news was about relating facts (although this is open to debate, news has always been subject to the bias of the presenter.)
Now it has completely gone the way of "Changing the World." They have gone from being content relaters, to being content creators (or trying to be, in both of the named cases, if the content did not exist, it would have to be created.) Posted by: Aetius451AD at May 27, 2016 03:14 PM (3ZoRf) 21

No, but it's about judgment and character. And we look at presidents that way." Um, what do wages and college have to do with a major 4 year security breach of one of the top US officials in government? Character is the best you've got?!? I've been thinking about this a lot lately, as Google pushes brands via their Search engine, but also Microsoft and Apple, etc. No one would even know about any of these "brands" if they weren't on TV, over and over in our face. You'd go to the grocery store and buy green beans. Or tomatoes. Or Cheerios. You might have to read the label instead of being told what to buy. Same for the news. What strikes me is how Williams is amazed that nuclear weapons have not been used since, never understanding that maybe they have not been used because we have seen the horrors from them. Maybe the use of those weapons against an aggressor state that refused to surrendered saved the world and Europe from much devastation had those weapons been first used during a war with Russia. I doubt that has ever crossed his mind. Posted by: SH at May 27, 2016 03:22 PM (gmeXX) 83

What drives left wingers crazy with anger? Well, it may be the well-to-do-suburban family to some extent. But who really gets the left angry are the not-so-well-to-do, often white but not always, hard- working people who make moral judgements based on a Judeo-Christian moral code. How dare they make decisions for themselves and not defer to their cultural superiors!

"1) Why was the US at war with Japan?"
The Japanese were trying to preserve their unique culture. Look at how they have been transformed into a distorted version of the United States with baseball and high cholesterol. "2) Describe the conduct of the war by the Japanese - specifically how did they treat civilians and prisoners of war?" In accordance with the rules of Bushido. Surrender is contemptible in Bushido and prisoners were treated accordingly for not having committed suicide. Yeah. She's right. The lack of modesty in modern culture is like the broken windows in NYC. Fix the little stuff, the big gets taken care of too. The constant slide of morality in little bits that are easy to defend or enjoy results in the big slides that we're all shocked and horrified by.

*** heh... Pa made 'Leatherneck' for something that happened in France. He let me read the article, praising the courage he and his men displayed on the occasion, and then told me what really happened. M3 scout car, drives right into an ambush. Panzergrenadiers at the rear of a retreating German column. Oberhauptsturmfuhrer tells him that the war is over for them.... Pa tells him, in heavily accented Yiddish/German, that the Red Army is at their rear, whereas Patton is at his rear, and that Patton will guarantee their lives and safety, while Stalin will kill them all. A quick chat among the Wehrmacht officers and men, and then Pa is holding the officer's pistol and leading them back to the rear. LA TIMES besmirched itself with another article
suggesting that the A bomb drops were just piling on and the Japs would have surrendered without them. What is wrong with these people? Posted by: torabora Having read about this matter myself for some years, the Japanese military were by no means ready to surrender even after Nagasaki. They were ready to fight on to the bitter end. Surrender for the Japanese is dishonor, and is followed by sepaku, ritual suicide. They, as individuals, were not ready to do THAT. There was talk of kidnapping and holding the Crown Prince as a hostage to prevent the Emperor from permitting surrender to the Allies. I actually think the Crown Prince was going to deliver the message to the Japanese people on the radio that Japan would surrender to the Allies. The Emperor had decided his people had suffered enough, and was terrified that the next nuke would be on his head in Tokyo (and there was talk of bombing the Imperial Palace on Curtis Lemay's staff). Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both chosen because of the local geography and how it would improve the effects of the bombs. War is Hell. I pity the poor people under those bombs. I have a dear friend who was a little girl in Berlin in 1945. Her life in those years was a nightmare. But it ended the war. The purpose of waging war was not to continue the war for the sake of war, but to be victorious and end the killing. Our war aims were not to turn Japan into a giant concentration camp, but to rebuild it under a constitutional government, which we did. During the past dozen years, so many people I once thought were admirable conservatives have fallen from grace - not just Ryan and Rubio but many of the pundits, from Kristol and Noonan to O'Rourke and Kevin Williamson. And that's just scratching the surface. Now there are people out there doing the hard work of actually facing the SJWs and fighting them - not just by making fun of trolls by typing words on a computer, but by standing there as flesh and blood crybullies get right into their faces and scream hatred and threats. It is sad and chilling to watch every decent inasmuch as there could be decent Nazis man in that room have every firewall to genocide overcome but one.... and even he caves. Müller: What was that story you were going to tell me? Heydrich: Story? Müller: Kritzinger. Heydrich: Oh yes, he told me a story about a man he had known all his life, a boyhood friend. This man hated his father. Loved his mother fiercely. His mother was devoted to him, but his father used to beat him, demeaned him, disenherited him. Anyway, this friend grew to manhood and was still in his thirties when the mother died. The mother, who had nurtured and protected him, died. The man stood at her grave as they lowered the coffin, and tried to cry, but no tears came. The man's father lived to a very extended old age, and withered away and died when the son was in his fifties. At the father's funeral, much to the son's surprise, he could not control his tears. Wailing, sobbing... he was apparently inconsolable. Lost. That was the story Kritzinger told me. Eichmann: I don't think I understand. Heydrich: No? [Eichmann shakes his head] The man had been driven his whole life by hatred of his father. When the mother died, that was a loss, but when the father died, and the hate had lost its object, the man's life was empty..over. Müller: [pause] Interesting. Heydrich: That was Kritzinger's warning. Eichmann: What, that we should not hate the Israelites? Heydrich: No, but that it should not fill our lives so much that, when they are gone, we have nothing left to live for. So says the story. I will not miss them. Every man in that room is burning in hell as it should be, and Kritzinger's warning is a good one all tyrants should remember. Posted by: sven10077 at May 27, 2016 04:24 PM (g8Hfr) 362

On behalf of America, I deeply apologize.
I apologize for saving civilization during the Great War once. I'm sorry--did I say 'once'? I meant twice, in World War II, also. I'm sorry--did I say 'twice'? I meant three times--that Cold War got pretty hot sometimes. I'm sorry--did I say 'three times'--because I meant four, now that we're defending civilization again against Radical Islamism. I also apologize for getting rid of dictators. For spreading freedom where possible. For bleeding on your countries. For keeping the sea lanes open. For spreading prosperity. For inventing medicines. For exploring space. For our role in ending slavery--except where it still exists in Muslim Africa and under Communist regimes. For sending doctors and supplies. For educating millions. For feeding millions For inventing innumerable devices to make uncounted lives better. For the taxpayers who finance the whole damn world, for rebuilding even those countries we defeated in war. For maintaining the peace. For devising the worst system of self-government ever known--except for all the others. But mostly I'm sorry for producing a bunch of pampered ingrates who think America needs to apologize early, often and forever. Did I say "You can kiss my ass--my American ass!"? No? Sorry. Because I meant to. Posted by: The Gipper Lives at May 27, 2016 07:14 PM (Ndje9) 390
The problem is our culture has become stagnate. To much safety, too much softness, too much ease creates people who lack drive and want of achievement.
Hence reporters or entertainers, etc. get paid and have power way beyond their value in the real world. Also explains the silly stuff people go on "crusades" about. Capitalism is a wonderful economic system, but it works best in a real world, not one devoid and protected from reality. In that situation it can create serious imbalances in a civilization that may not be corrected in time to meet a danger to that civilization. So like everything else, capitalism is only as good as the culture and people whose nation it resides in. The ideal nation is one where individuality and a heroic culture dominate. Despite the individualism, most of the citizens are patriotic and love their nation. They are nationalistic, however not to the point of a lack of self-awareness and blind patriotism. When a civilization becomes soft, and loses the patriotic heroic spirit, at some point the "fighting men" of that culture, or another culture invading into the "soft culture" will correct that. So being too safe can destroy a civilization just as fast as being too violent. Posted by: William Eaton at May 27, 2016 07:18 PM (KhJh8) 391
I lived abroad in the late Eighties and most of the Nineties. When I returned to the United States, a dear friend assured me many if not most people here had come to view television series and particular characters as potential realities for themselves. Anyone could live like a character from Friends, Seinfeld, whatever. I blew it off. She was so right and I was so wrong.
In the immediate aftermath of September 11th, people briefly came to realize firefighters, paramedics, police, their neighbors, ordinary people were actual, real heroes. Hollywood panicked and put on a telethon to set things rights. It did, and soon the natural order restored Johnny Depp as a more important person than someone's physician. We are sick and we are fucked. This will be a completely Marxist country barring a miracle in a decade, brought to you by Snapchat. *As a footnote to the previous, Couric and Williams actually are on borrowed time. In a few years no one will watch broadcast news, and unless they can fit their dad and mom bods into tight Marvel costumes, they are gone. We actually will recall their pathetic existences as superior to what follows them.
Also, Hilary likely will be the first president to routinely appear across mass media in a flattering holograph form. Posted by: Trump poisoned my cat at May 27, 2016 07:36 PM (TZVdK) 393

There is absolutely no reason for any news reader's face to be known to the audience. Hundreds of thousands of documentaries demonstrate that.

"Couric and Williams actually are on borrowed time. In a few years no one will watch broadcast news, and unless they can fit their dad and mom bods into tight Marvel costumes, they are gone." Does anyone listen to Katie Couric or Brian Williams anymore? I sure don't. I can't remember the last time I watched the news on TV. And besides, aren't they both off TV? Williams completely discredited himself when his penchant for lying came out. I remember being enraged when it all came out. And then I remembered, who watches the news anymore? Also, funny memes. As for Couric, she seems to make headlines every 9 months or so and when she does the first thought that comes into my head is "Isn't she dead?" Posted by: Rachel at May 28, 2016 11:14 AM (PG7Hm) 400
The basic problem is widespread idiocy.

One of the many failings of our society is the cult of celebrity worship. I don't understand it, never have, never will.
A few weeks ago after Prince died, there were many written eulogies praising his accomplishments. In one such article (on a conservative blog) I asked, while Prince had been a skilled entertainer what had he done that warranted so much praise? I pointed out that there are many scientists, engineers, teachers, rescue people and soldiers that have done far more for our society than Prince yet die with little or no acclamation. Yeah.... I never got a straight answer other than 'I loved his music' and lets say the 'ad hominem' was real strong that day. Posted by: TBlakely at May 28, 2016 02:39 PM (F+hvk) 402
