Sailor Who Took Pictures of His Sub's Engine Room On His Unsecure Cell Phone Could Get 10 Years in Prison for Negligently Handling Secret Information

And you know, this being a democracy where we each are equally under the rule of law, Hillary Clinton naturally faces the same risks.

Stop smirking.

Um: Apparently Hillary connected her server to a printer.

Which made it even easier to hack.

Ronald Guilmette, a private security researcher in California who prompted me to look up this information, said printing things to an Internet-based printer set up this way might have made the printer data vulnerable to eavesdropping.

"Whoever set up their home network like that was a security idiot, and it’s a dumb thing to do," Guilmette said. "Not just because any idiot on the Internet can just waste all your toner. Some of these printers have simple vulnerabilities that leave them easy to be hacked into."

More importantly, any emails or other documents that the Clintons decided to print would be sent out over the Internet -- however briefly - -before going back to the printer. And that data may have been sniffable by other customers of the same ISP, Guilmette said.

Since the current administration is already working overtime to destroy our standing in the world, it's unlikely that her actions will have caused more damage to us than Obama's overt ones, but I bet it will be close.

103 "US Navy Nuclear Power falls under the Atomic Energy Act of 1954."

I've had a working theory on this. Tell me if I'm wrong.

We've had a military applications bias in our nuclear power development since the start. Because of this, we've put little into developing Thorium, a weaker cousin to uranium and plutonium, as a fuel source. Thorium is more plentiful than uranium and you can't make a bomb out of it the way you can with uranium and plutonium.

With five or ten years of effort we could commercially develop thorium reactors as an alternative energy source. The waste from a thorium reactor is far less dangerous than form a uranium or plutonium-based reactor. No CO2 emissions, if you care.

But instead Obama been putting our money into companies like Solyndra to MANUFACTURE suboptimal solar panels. That's the tragic bit: we've lost TIME and MONEY by not pursuing viable alternative energy sources and now have d*ck to show for it.

Yes, yes, of course.

But...

What has the conservative movement actually accomplished lately?

To the jaded eye of someone from the hinterlands it seems that they murmur their invocations in their temples, demand their tithes, speak of the great things to come and do nothing. Worse, it often seems that they do the opposite, being more concerned with their status and their sinecures than actually developing a goal and working to achieve any part of it.

I am not saying that Donald Trump is a Martin Luther, but he is a force they did not reckon on and have no idea (still do not have any idea) on how to fight. He is stirring up stagnant ponds and flame-throwing a lot of undergrowth and it is crude and nasty and g-d about time it was done.

A reformation is needed and if any, any of these conservative constitutionalists were smart they would be figuring out how Trump does it and start taking a sickle to the weeds themselves.

Donald Trump is a singularity - his purpose is to change course from the Obama ship wreck course to any other course - he will bring no long term change to the way conservatives view government - or how they view the Republican party.

The military must have changed. When the commander pinned my ribbons, I wore them and no one said squat to me about it. As long as the presentation certificate was in my file, that award was mine. All the DD214 was, was confirmation that I had been in the military and had been honorably discharged. It also listed all my metals, but wasn't necessary to wear them.

So in its natural organic state you don't get quicker radioactive decay (and more energy) by just packing a lot of pure thorium together. Is that right?

My comic book explanation of an A-bomb is that U235 is so subject to decay that if you pack enough of it together you get a nearly instantaneous chain reaction so that it all blows up in a small fraction of a second.

The bitch is separating the much rarer U235 from the U238 dross. Which is what the Iranians are working on right now. Thank you John Kerry, peace be unto him.

When I got out ('77), I didn't have a clue about how to decipher a DD214. I remember I had a lot of questions on my service record that included entire sets of missing orders. I separated overseas with the assurance that everything would work itself out in the end. It worked out about as well as you might expect. My father (WWII vet) had similar experiences, only he kept arguing about his records up to close to his passing. I'm 63 now, and I don't really care all that much except for the bitter taste that comes up when I think about it.

It is an amazing thing that some professional politicians can determine which way the wind is blowing and trim their sails to match it. And that a businessman would pick up part of an organization to handle things that he does not have handled yet is not unknown either.

I do not know what effect Trump is going to have on American politics or even the Republican party or conservativism, I do know that it is not going to be the same as it was. And it needed a good shaking up. The best the establishments could come up with was Jeb and Hillary, and everyone else was reading from the same tightly-controlled scripts. Trump knocked some of the rust and scale off at least.

It needed to be done - the fact that Trump ran and won showed that it needed to be done. The opportunity is now out there for some smart people to move things around. I hope they do.

You've got to be kidding. I'm a businessman and I know that you need a ground game to win a national election. Trump realized it until his political director quit/was fired a couple days ago.

And the idea that there is some group sitting around picking who will and who won't run is silly. There was no group that anointed Jeb! to run, I thought that idea died with DrewM's prediction that the dreaded establishment was going to shove him down our throats.

If not, the simple fact that 17 freaking people were in the race at the start which made it a complete toss up as to what was going to happen and that Donald J. Trump emerged with the nomination should once and for all stop this ridiculous idea that the Republican Party always picks the winner.

As I said earlier, Trump's campaign has been one long list of yuuge and fabulous things he was going to do for people with zero cost associated. He was just going to get great people and do awesome things. He was the new thing.

And yet he now is embracing the establishment organization that he insisted for months was crooked and rigged against him to organize his campaign. You see that as some brilliant tactic, I just see it as more Trump BS.

We'll see.

234 As a Trident submariner back in the late 80s and early 90s, I knew full well the consequences of saying *anything* about classified material. Let alone snapping pictures without authorization from anywhere *inside* the vessel other than on the mess decks or the crew's lounge.

And as a former submariner, I *still* know the consequences that could be levied on me if I talked about anything that was classified *then* on Ohio class boats.

Let's just put this in layman's terms: *Everything* in an Engine Room on a nuclear-powered submarine is classified. There's nothing you can take a picture of that wouldn't give away vital information regarding the sub's capabilities to be found aft of the Reactor Compartment. I mean, if you really zoomed down and aimed straight at the deck, you *might* be safe. But why?

This guy was flat-out stupid. Or trying to get bounced from the service and didn't care if it was a dishonorable. Or both. I'm voting for the power of "and" on this one. You don't take pictures of the Engine Room. Period. This Is Known. And why did he bring his cell with him on the boat anyway? It's not like he was going to get service underway.
