More from the IG Report: Staffers Who Raised Questions About Hillary's Illegal Email System Were Told To Never Bring It Up Again

Of course.

Sorry, I just can't permit this foul creature to be president.

I underestand some feel differently.

This woman has been breaking the law forever. She's a viciously paranoid drunk who keeps an enemies list and has a thirst for avenging slights against her.

The only reason I can see to support her -- and believe me, this occurred to me -- is if you believe Trump is doomed anyway and you wish to make yourself a small target in Hillary's ever-growing list of targets for vengeance.

A completely rational and practical reason.

But that's it.

This bullshit that she'd somehow be more respecting of the law or Constitution than Trump?

Don't delude yourselves.

4 The point isn't that she'd be more respecting of the law or the Constitution than Trump.

The point is that some of us are willing to consider the weight of breaking shit- that you yourself claimed against, of all people, Rubio, back in December.

Suddenly, breaking shit doesn't look like so much fun when you're at the edge.

5 Even if you take the most simple explanation that she was just ignorant, or complacent, or incompetent, that alone is enough to disqualify her as Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Government.

(1) People will be so tired of Democrats in general and Hillary's bullshit after 12 years that we'll be able to go hard conservative in 2020 and win.

That thing where "Ambassador" Stevens (hell, he was CIA and this was so important the "Station Chief" had to the ambassador himself) had all the hallmarks of a drug deal gone bad. Imagine some big scene where all the kingpins are meeting to do some really big billion dollar drug deal. Somebody sneezes and they all jerk their guns and mow each other down.

126 Ace, I agree that the best option now left to us is to hold our noses and vote for Trump.

But I'd contend that the best argument for not voting for him, or even voting Hillary, is: They're both progressives, and Trump might get more done. If she wins, she'll be damaged, and she'll face a Republican house and senate.

If Trump wins, and if he returns to his progressive attitudes that he held right up until 4 years ago, I don't see the Republicans in congress fighting against a Republican president. It could be like GWB, if GWB was about 3 clicks to the left. And that could be very, very bad.

Now, I'll reject that argument, and I'll vote for Trump, because I'd rather have a chance, albeit a slight one, that Trump turns out to be conservative, nominates another Clarence Thomas to SCOTUS, repeals ObamaCare, slashes spending, and builds that wall. That would be a hell of a lot better than gridlock with Hillary, and I'm in a gambling mood. But I can see the logic behind that argument, even if I reject it.

"This bullshit that she'd somehow be more respecting of the law or Constitution than Trump?"
No. She'll be worse than Trump, even if marginally so.
Mostly because she knows the rules and how they can be broken; whereas Trump would have to learn before he can abuse the same power in the way he wants.

They both want to abuse and grow the power of the Government; and both lean liberal.. Hillary harder than Trump in my view.
IMO the important question... how do they do for the country?
I believe they both fail; badly. And damage their party (as much as the media permits, of course the media will play defense for the Dems only). Do you want the Big Govt Authoritarian abusing power laid at the feet of the GOP, or the DNC? Or do you think either will succeed in turning the country around economically and in general?

Now, if you accept both fail hard... Which party do you trust more to try to fix the problem caused by either candidate?

Because I don't see either of these candidates succeeding in leading the country into anything but more trouble and problems.
I also believe the GOP is the only chance of reversing this course at a later date; and the DNC will double down on stupid forever.
So destroying the GOP and any hope of a Conservative as President for the rest of my life in order to stop Hillary from being slightly worse than Trump for 4 years?
I don't see it. I'm not voting for him.

I'm not sure of my guesses and predictions here, but I have enough suspicion I'm correct that I don't want to push for what I see as the worst case scenario.

Yes, the Constitution should be honored because it is essentially the first document that established a clearly written limiting contract between those in power and the people.

I don't worship the Constitution, but I respect it as probably the best document ever written to establish a government where the citizens were protected (absent scum sucking lawyers and progressives) from a rapacious unchecked central power.

Cruz was polling much better nationally than Trump at the time, and better than Hillary in some polls, so it was rational not to settle at that time for the orange caudillo. Plus that little thing that Cruz could actually make a great president, but never mind that. How silly to be concerned with that!

Trump is polling much better now, and I think he can win, but it's an Ebola vs Cancer race now. You can live with cancer much longer than ebola, so pick your fatal disease.

346 chemjeff, I'm going to do something I never thought I'd do: I'm going to make an argument for voting for Trump.

Gah. Douche-chills -- must fight through the douche-chills and nausea.

Probability that Hillary, if elected, will nominate a healthy 40-year-old female communist with a family history of very long life to SCOTUS: 1.0.

Probability that Trump, if elected, will nominate a constitutionalist conservative to SCOTUS: 0.40.

Now, if Cruz had been elected, that 0.40 would instead be a 0.98. (There's always the danger of a stealth liberal, it's happened many times.) But 0.40 -- I'll take that. If Hillary wins, we've lost SCOTUS for at least 30 years. That right there -- that's a game changer.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be right over here, puking into this 5-gallon bucket.

The exact same reason that Trump, with the highest negatives in history, has managed to claw his way back to about where Cruz was in the polls.

Because Hillary sucks and the Democrats are divided-its not a matter of personal popularity (most people hate Trump), its a matter of not having even more unfavorables that Hillary.

It's the same argument, cj. With Hillary we know with 100% certainty what kind of justice will replace Scalia. With Trump, we don't know.

I don't think Trump cares that much about SCOTUS --- he has no real political philosophy. So I think this is one place where he might throw conservatives a bone or at least pay back the NRA for their support.

That you don't trust Trump to be better than Hilary seems to be your biggest problem with him. The list of potential SCOTUS picks was unprecedented for a presidential candidate to put out and that one thing alone reassured me a lot. I have no problem voting for Trump bc of that.

Which conservative philosophy? The Boehner version, the Santorum version, or the Cruz version? The problem with the conservative label is that it has been used by too many people to mean too many things, and a lot of those people (particularly the Boehner types) have rightly earned dishonor, scorn, and derision for it.

If you don't want your principles replaced after they've been run through the mud, you need to do something about it. The Cruz type needs a new label. Not new philosophies or new ideas, just a new label, a new name, logo, and brand that they can promote. Think of how the Left switches from Socialist to Progressive to Liberal and back depending on which one has the least damage at the time.

Otherwise, people who don't follow politics as closely as we do but still vote are going to hear that same old label, think you're the same old Boehners, and run to whatever huckster is screaming the loudest instead.

I wonder if there's something to look to, there.

You know Ace, fuck you. I have been a big fan of yours and lurker here for years, but this hostile accusatory tilt you are on in favor of Trump is just unfair friendly fire. Refusing to vote for Trump is NOT the equivalent of supporting Hilary, just as refusing to vote for Hilary is not the equivalent of supporting Trump.

Your supposed holier-than-though position of voting for the supposed lesser of two evils will damage conservative greatly, perhaps fatally, because Trump's non-conservative buffoonery as President will latch on to and stain actual conservatism. As Ben Shapiro puts it, we are heading towards The Cliff at 60 MPH with Obama, Hilary will ratchet it up to 90 MPH while Trump will merely up it to 75 MPH but at the same time remove the reversal gears (destroying conservatism) from the car. One will do fatal damage to the country directly and the other will do fatal damage to the only healing possibility this country has. My only real choice is to refuse to help either one drive the final nail into America. Your trollish assholery is REALLY not helping the situation and will drive real conservatives away from you for honestly no good reason at all.

Conservatism if the idea that the government that governs least governs best, that we must be frugal and self-reliant died somewhere between 2001 and 2016....

one can make a solid argument that when Brandy Boehner and Math Witch Ryan were largely silent as TARP and Prokulus and budget by CR became entrenched they were strangling it.

One can argue "Math Witch" as Speaker finished off the corpse when he decided "no shutdowns means give Obama spare billions" was a logical exercise in an election year....

Trump God help me fights, and he is landing blows on Grammy H....

I am not sure Cruz would have....I know that so long as the Squish Axis is in power with no apology for their excesses these last 15 years Cruz would accomplish no more towards my goals than Trump...

the problem is as much in the assholes on the Hill as the asshole on the top.

I made a prediction. I never stated with absolute certainty that Trump will or will not do a certain thing. That would be absurd, no one can know that. (Not even Trump, it looks like.)

Pretty sure you comment here more than me on a weekly basis than me. Prove me wrong.

No, you prove your claim. I'm tired of being your link-fetcher.

630 596 "Trump is the nominee. Vote for him or don't.

But please, for the love of God, STFU about him."

...

Sounds just like Trump. People shouldn't be "allowed" to criticize him.

Creeps the shit out me. Good lord.

Tip: if you want to court people who hate Trump, do not for fucks sake say they can't criticize him, unless you want to send us screaming away to vote for the L party.

He NEEDS criticism. He NEEDS to be on an extremely short leash/shock collar, and his new sycophants don't realize that.

I will probably vote for him but the thing that will stop me from doing that is if I'm not allowed to say whatever I want to about him.

He's a fucking ape, a NYC statist.

633 My whole point about conservatism is this. Conservatism is about preserving tradition. We're not traditionalists, and we never have been. The things that we're traditional about are only traditions here. They're still the newest ideas in all of human relations - that a man can run his own life without the input of an omnipotent elite in a distant capitol.

So let's stop calling ourselves something we're not. We've always been, in our hearts and in our ideals, the same rebels that won this country to begin with. We need a label that reflects that.

641 Saying 'Trump lies!' to everything isn't an argument; it's just contradiction while an argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition. It isn't just contradiction.

And while if you *argue* with me you must take up a contrary position, it isn't just saying 'Trump lies!' An argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction by saying 'Trump lies!' is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says.

648 Personally I understand voting for Trump purely out of an "anti-Hillary" mentality. Fine, whatever, do what you think is best. But Ace's recent shitposting against #NeverTrumpers who are choosing to abstain from voting for the less-of-two-evils (Trump) out of principle should be beneath him. Basically, this election boils down to two choices:

1) Vote Hillary, America dives head first into the abyss with a bungee cord (conservatism) still attached
2) Vote Trump, America is given a breather before it is shoved into the abyss but the bungee cord is cut

For me, neither choice is acceptable so the only real choice I can make for America is to effectively protest vote. That does not make me an egotistical, spiteful, delusional Hillary supporter, Ace.

This is, pretty much, conservatism.

One might also add the conservatives understand that man is fundamentally flawed and limits - such as the Constitution - must always be placed on their power. I also feel conservatives believe that the majority is not always correct - hence the restraint imposed by elements of American government such as the electoral college.

652 650 - Maybe by "Never-Trumper" he means those who will vote for Hillary. I dunno. To me there's a big difference between those who abstain and those who actually vote for the witch.

Ace has clearly been shitting on those conservative #NeverTrumpers that refuse to vote for Trump, and would never EVER vote for Hillary. Case in point:

"However, at the moment, he is the only plausible tool by which we can prevent President Hillary Clinton, and if that isn't enough to at least get you to bite your tongue or find some other interest (politics isn't especially interesting, you know; there are a thousand fields more interesting and rewarding), then you're not merely #NeverTrump, you're closer to #NeverReallyAConservative."

This acehole accuses ME of leaning away from conservatism while he breathlessly makes the case that we should vote for King Democrat-In-Republican-Skin? Please.

657 The #nevertrump narcissism/infantilism has fizzled out for the most part, anyhow. What remains isn't a face the Republican Party wants or needs.

The upside to Trump as the nominee, and why I started to warm to him halfway through the primary after being so dismissive, is that he will continue to tear the hide of the evil, corrupt wannabe-despot Hillary. Trump has lots of problems, to channel him, but he is nowhere near as depraved as Hillary Clinton. Anyone making a moral/ethical/political equivalency is lying to themselves.
