Raphael angels.jpg

Angels
Raphael Sanzio

This is a portion of a larger piece called "Sistine Madonna," which you can find if you click the image.

There is something impish and sweet and mischievous about these angels. They are plotting something, I am sure of it.

Oh...and Raphael rocks. He's one of those artists who clearly had a conduit to God. Mozart, Michelangelo, El Greco, and some others.

77 CHERUB - A shortened version of cherubim, one of the most powerful of the choirs or orders of angels. Over the centuries the cherub has developed at times a far more benign and approachable image, in large measure because of art. Today the cherub epitomizes a small, chubby, exceedingly happy little angel, with tiny adorable wings, more like a winged baby than one of the truly awesome servants of almighty G_d. This image can be dated to the magnificent creations of artists, especially in the Baroque and Rococo periods, with paintings and sculptures of sweet angels, such as the putto ( pl putti ) found all over Europe's grand ceilings.

99 PUTTI - The small, adorable angels ( sing. putto ) found in both painting and sculpture during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The putti were probably adopted originally from Greek and Roman art, with their depictions of stylized figures of Eros, the god of love, who later became personified by Cupid with his arrow of love. The putto, however, represented angels in the highly devotional works of fifteenth-century Italian artists., especially in their renderings of the popular theme of the Madonna with Child. The putti specifically depicted cherubim, usually surrounding the Virgin Mary and the baby Jesus, decorating some painting of a Bible scene or holy person, or adorning architectural features such as pillars, columns, or ceilings. The presentation of the cherubim as a harmless, chubby little angel unfortunately did much to diminish the original conception of the cherubim as one of the most profound and formidable angelic beings in all of the celestial hierarchy.

106 Those cherubs are a bit bittersweet for me.

When my mother was in her eighties, she bought a print that had these cherubs on top, with a list of what angels "do" for the world below it and how we should follow their example.

It hung in her bedroom and they watched over her for the next few years as she became frail and then one night, slipped away to meet them in person.

I do smile remembering how she fell in love with it at a gift shop and had to have it.

144 Well, it is looking more and more like there is going to be a debate between Bernie and the Donald.

Right now, projections are that it would bring in $10-15 M in advertising revenue, which Trump says he wants to see go to a woman's charity.

They want it in a giant arena.

Trump said at the NRA forum that he would like to see Bernie run as an independent.

I'm not totally understanding what the end game is here for Trump. I know he believes he can blow Bernie out of the water with numbers of what his free for all programs will cost, and would demonstrate how they have some similarities regarding trade, TPP, etc. which should make Bernie's voter's consider Trump.

But this could also easily become a crazy clown show, in which Hillary, who refuses to particpate, comes across as the rational one....

One thing I know about Democrats that is rock solid.
They will never ever turn on each other.

Bernie has only thrown a few half hearted arrows at her, which is one of the reason's he hasn't won every primary. He refuses to say anything about Benghazi or emails, etc.

I can actually see him coming to her defense, knowing he has zero chance of getting the Democrat nomination. Trump will have to hammer home the unfairness of the Dem. primary process to Berniebots, because Bernie will defend her as their presumptive nominee.

Bernie knows and has been given his orders. Pretty much all of this now from his campaign is for show and to have some leverage at the convention for the Dem platform to include some of his loony ideas.

But lets look at history: The DOJ not only lied but directly violated Federal Court injunctions not to issue more work visas to illegals that were not authorized by Congress.

The Judge lowered the boom alright.

Posted by: mustbequantum at May 27, 2016 10:40 AM (MIKMs)

Of course Scandi's have a sense of humor. Geez. Just check out this sampling of Scandi jokes:
1. How many Scandi's does it take to screw in a light bulb? Answer: One.2. Three Scandi's walk into a bar, and order a round of drinks.3. How did the Scandi model burn her fingers? Answer: She touched a hot stove.4. A pole, and a Scandi jump from the top of the Empire State Building. Which one hits the ground first? Answer: Neither, they hit at the same time.
5. Why don't Scandi's eat at buffets? Answer: Some of them do.

Scott Adams talked about it and thinks the only way Trump doesn't get anything out of this is if Bernie destroys Trump. Otherwise Trump looks unafraid to debate. If he sets the correct tone, he can look presidential. He makes Hillary, who really hasn't wanted to debate Bernie, look scared and weak. And it lets Trump appeal to Bernie voters without the MSM filter. Plus if he wins the debate, he actually puts Bernie behind the 8-ball if he were to somehow beat Hillary.

196 See DOJ has given immunity to the one little puke and to Guccifer. So, Judicial Watch, if it can get their hands on that testimony, might be able to prove Mills is lying.

They do that and the judge has no choice.

That's why I think it's more likely she takes the fifth. That's why she wouldn't cooperate with the State DEPT IG, didn't want to get caught lying to a federal official. She would rather claim attorney client privilege than the 5th, but either way, she ain't talking. Not even to lie cause she will get caught.

Her taking the 5th today wouldn't look good for team Hillary

285 This comment belongs in the previous thread--but I'm too late so I will post here.

So Obama is continuing his World Wide Narcissistic Bullshit Tour.*
Everybody knows he is the ultimate narcissist but he seems incapable of grasping the fact he has an audience only because of his position and the country he represents. It's not about him but he clearly believes it is only about him. Is that ignorance? Stupidity? Mental illness? Maliciousness?

I suspect even the heads of foreign states see him as a narcissistic bullshitter. They may even be puzzled by his lack of interest in representing U.S. interests. But he is evidently incapable of looking past himself.

Didn't U2 do a World Wide Narcissistic Bullshit Tour a few years ago?

310 Jackson, MS is trying to become Chicago South. A yute was gunned down in the parking lot of an apartment complex. JPD thinks as many as 50 shots were fired and there were multiple shooters because, wait for it, rounds of different calibers were found at the scene.

This same apartment complex had already experienced another shooting plus a car being set afire IIRC. One resident when interviewed replied she did not know anything about what happened.

Common sense would be I think, for JPD to park a patrol car in that apartment complex. But its Jackson which has yet to fix a main water line that broke three months ago and is in a battle with Siemens over their new water billing system with smart meters that is not working.

Pre-ban MUMR went through several distinct mental health phases. There were times when he was a normally odd commenter (no offense, Hordelings, but that's a low bar) and times he was batshit insane.

Then there was the post-ban phase where he'd try to batter his way in around 4:30-5:00 every day, which I took as the extreme OCD phase of MUMR.

These days I can't figure out what's what. I know that the cobs have a MUMR replacement widget, but sometimes it refers to current threads which means it can't all be pre-canned.

It's easy to see the arguments and delineations when you don't agree with someone politically. Especially with the modern Democrat Party, whose positions are autocratic and violative of our culture and Constitution.

But is is really concerning when people simply outright lie and try to fool people in plain view of the truth. That's not politics, it's some kind of mental illness. A denial, where the person aviods any accountability at all costs.

Especially for the job she is running for, that should deeply concern every person with an ounce of common sense. It's really a psychosis.

347 In addition to the memorial day observances of our own nation, let's remember some other freedom fighters from a past age, battling the same forces we face now. Google "The Battle of Lepanto" sometime. Tintoretto painted it, so did Titian, so did dozens if not hundreds of Renaissance painters. It's the reason there are churches called "Our Lady of Victory." Cervantes fought in it. So did St. Ignatius Loyola. It was the decisive defeat of the Ottoman forces in Europe. http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems-and-poets/poems/detail/47917

348 My favorite story about the angels:

One day Raphael was visiting his mistress La Fornarina at her bakery. He saw two street urchins peering through the window coveting the (baked) goods. He was taken by their looks and included them in the Sistine Madonna. Now, they have become the most often reproduced images from the Renaissance.
