Ace of Spades Pet Thread [Misanthropic Humanitarian]

zz pet thread memorial day cover.jpg

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Mark Bush and his dog Xarius via www.petful.com

Welcome to the Memorial Day Weekend edition of the Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

From before Biblical times to the present dogs have been used in military service. The U.S. Military first used dogs in WW I. Originally German Shepherd Dogs and Dobermans were used. Labrador Retrievers eventually replaced the Doberman. Dogs are used as sentries, trackers, scout team and mine/booby/tunnel dog teams. All 4 branches of the military use dogs in some capacity. However the U.S. Army is the only branch that has veterinarians.

The U.S. Military is working on a robotic dog. Secretary of the Navy Frank Kelley declared that one day marines and soldiers will likely bond with the robotic dog as they would a biological dog. I don't envision a robotic dog "kissing" his Staff Sgt. But, that's just me.

Not all dogs who interact with the military are war dogs. Some are used for therapy. They help treat struggling soldiers with PTSD.

Feel good cat video

Rey was born eight months ago with no eyes. Alexander Speweik adopted Rey and her sister Leia, and Rey now gets around the apartment just fine. She even plays fetch!

Wadded up aluminum makes a great ball to roll around on a wood floor, and Rey follows it almost perfectly just by the sound. She also plays with boxes, climbs her cat tower, and wrestles with her sister. She doesn’t chase a laser light, but likes to play with the chain attached to the laser pen!

Some pet and animal items that made the news this week.

Here is one German Shepherd Dog that didn't make it as a war dog. However, he does get a B+ for ingenuity.

15 So here's the one "pet" story that I have.

I was about 9 when we got our first puppy. "Peter" was a poodle/border collie mix. I liked his unique coloring: His fur was completely black, except for his paws, the tip of his tail, which were white, and he also had a little white spot of fur right in the center of his chest.

About 5-6 years later, we had moved out of the SF Bay Area into the more rural Napa County, and one day this beautiful golden retriever comes wandering onto our property, very friendly. So we pet him and play with him and he starts hanging out with us and pretty soon he's living with us. My dad went looking for who might possibly be the owner, but couldn't find anyone. So we named him "Baron" and he became ours. The vet we took him to said he didn't think he was a year old. Also said there was an AKC tattoo in his ear, which the vet told us means he was a purebred canine, and that somebody lost a very valuable animal.

So the following year the family living down the road buy a dog for their kids, a golden retriever bitch, and then, knowning about our GR purebred, suggested breeding the two. We think this is a fine idea, so the first time their bitch goes into heat, we bring Baron over to keep her company. Well, she gets pregnant and eventually gives birth to a fine litter of pups.

And all of them have the same coloring: the fur of each pup was completely black, except for the paws, the tip of the tail, which were white, and with a little white spot of fur right in the center of the chest.

We thought it was hilarious.

Postscript: Peter and Baron were inseparable companions for years. They were both "outside" dogs and on cold nights, I could see them sleeping, curled up right next to each other on the front porch.

As Pete was getting on toward his 15th birthday, he became almost totally deaf, and I suspect blind as well, and he walked very stiffly, as if he had arthritis. I figured he had probably had not much longer to live.

But I don't know, because one day Peter left and never came back. The dogs had the run of our 20-acre piece of property, and no matter where they went, they'd always come back in the evening. Only this time, he didn't. I could only think that he crawled off somewhere and died, or maybe something bigger than he was got him, I'll never know. And I hate it that I don't know. Sometimes I wake up at night and wonder, even though this was over 35 years ago. And then, about a week after that, Baron also disappeared, and never came back. He was considerably younger than Peter, and in relatively good health, so it was a complete mystery to me what could have happened to him. Maybe he just couldn't live without Peter, his lifelong companion.

16 Tammy, it's worth it. It's happy tears.

Posted by: Moki at May 28, 2016 03:31 PM (ezHMO)

17 Speaking of pets, I'm at the horse ranch right now where my daughter does her horse therapy. Brownie the horse is an older therapy horse who works wonders with special needs kids; they squirm, flop, flap, and he gives them a gentle nudge and they settle right down. Amazing doesn't even describe it.

18 wife just took adopted dog to the vet to verify health and esp. no utis.

this dog just never got housetrained, despite being over 4 yo. we suspected she was a breed dog and i think that clinches it. why train a breeder?

anyway its all in preparation for returning her to the "rescuers". she can't breed anymore so it's obvious why she was cast aside, but she's not exactly a pet either. rough life for that little dog.

19 One of the things that enabled tiny forces like those of Cortez or Pizzaro to conquer enormous empires was that in addition to their steel armor and swords, they also used horses and dogs in war. The Indians they fought found both to be terrifying.

While the Conquistadors, being Spanish probably did not cry "Havoc!" they most definitely did let slip the dogs of war.

22 OregonMuse, goodness.

I've heard that dogs will often go away from their home to die, I don't know why though. But I understand Baron-when a dog loses someone it loves, it sometimes just can't go on. Happened with my mom's lab, Missy. Mom died, and a week later, Missy passed as well. She missed my mom too much. I like to think that Mom is in heaven, taking Boar's Head ham from the buffet to give to Missy. That dog was better fed than 3/4 of the world.

27 We had to put down a horse who was chased and spooked by some local teenagers, and he severely broke (worse than broke) a rear leg.

It was horrible.

Little pony that shared his pasture would not let anyone approach his body to remove it to bury. He'd lash out and try to bite us every time we came near.

31 I'm going to throw this out there again - a rehash of a question since I got in late last week.

What are y'all doing (if anything) to combat fleas & ticks?
I don't care for the topical stuff. My vet offers Bravecto chews (12 wks) or a Seresto 8 months collar. Either one is a bit spendy, but I don't want fleas again like I had last year.

Great story OM.

32 Son said their convoy was traveling through a village in Afghanistan, and the village dogs knew the U. S. military were kind to animals (unlike the locals who abused them).

They were about five kilometers out of the village, and someone at the rear of the convoy radioed my son's vehicle and said a dog they had petted was running after them.

Sadly, they couldn't stop and take him with them, as it was against rules.

They're wonderful. Our horses always had a pecking order. On the way to the barn from the pasture, the older gelding had to go first, followed by the two younger ones. If one of the younger ones tried to get out of line, he was quickly put in his place. Heh.

42 Animals, like the blind cat, are amazing. I mentioned in an earlier thread we had a poodle who went blind at 4 years old. In no time he learned to use his brother as a seeing eye dog when outside running around the yard or going for a walk. Indoors, he knew the house layout so well he maneuvered with no problem. People assumed we would have him put down but they were fools. He lived another eight happy years.

43 Oregon Muse, sweet, and sad, story about the dogs. Really hard when critters just disappear. F'r instance:

Saw an article that says the most-searched how-do-you-spell word in Oklahoma is "gray". Here's a tail of two grays.

A few cats have been very special to me. I've written about my dear friend Charlie, a true Godsend.

Charlie's tail (and Max's)
http://acecomments.mu.nu/?blog=86&post=361844#c24945709

But years before Charlie, there was Fortune.

Here in Oklahoma, one does not generally walk - where our in-town "office" is, there are no sidewalks. But, for some reason, one sunny day, I was walking along the highway. This is a five-lane affair, with one of those head-on left-turn lanes in the center. ("Suicide lane" my neighbor calls it.)

As I walked along, I saw what I thought was a bit of brush or trash rolling under a car. Then I saw it stand up and start hissing ferociously. Traffic was moderate, but dangerous. Fortunately, the kitten had made it to the relative safety of the center lane.

I managed to get over to the center lane and pick it up, cradling it in my tee-shirt. A really young, medium-haired gray kitten with spots of white and a scary amount of blood. I figure someone had just thrown it out the car window. I wondered if it was fatally damaged.

I took it back to the office, washed off the blood in the bathroom sink, and saw that the only apparent damage was a cut lip (inasmuch as cats have lips). Amazing, resilient kitty. I remember Daughter walking in and seeing me holding this tiny wet creature; she wondered, why is Dad holding a rat?

So, the fortunate survivor kitty got the name Fortune, and joined us living at the farm. I really liked that kitty and she was "mine" in a special way. We had a bad patch when, after being spayed, her stitches opened up. (We had a new vet at the time, and moved on to another after that.) Can still picture Milady, on the east porch, holding Fortune's flesh together to keep her guts in.

One day, I looked out on the east porch, and there on the table I thought I saw Fortune, but it was another cat, almost identical, who just showed up. That cat got the name General Gray. It was difficult to tell them apart at a distance. Behaviorally, they were easy to tell apart: The General was a little more aggressive than my sweet gal Fortune.

Fortune liked to get up on the trampoline with Milady when she exercised.

One day Fortune was just gone. Heartbreaking when that happens with any cat, but especially one so dear. For a while, it was hard to look at Gen. Gray, because, every time, I'd wonder, is this Fortune returned?

Miss you, little Miss Fortune.

General Gray stayed with us for years, eventually expiring naturally.

------------

The entire story is just too painful to tell. The poor little creature had just seemingly recovered from the near-death trauma that she had suffered through a week before when it came time to administer the Trifexis, actually, we had put off the Trifexis until we were sure that her system was back to normal.

24 hrs. after the Trifexis she was seized with non-stop trembling, panting. BACK to the emergency care Vets, and the next day to our regular Vet. The consensus was that even though there had never been a reaction to the Trifexis before, the sensitivity could develop later in life.

Anyhow, after another round of sleepless nights keeping her company through the ordeal, she slowly came round after 72 hrs. or so.

I remain astounded that her heart has lasted through this, and my own too, truth be told.

When I first got my black kitteh from daughter she was literally swimming in fleas. We used Hartz Mountain Ultraguard Pro available from Walmart. It worked wonders.

71 The fleas and ticks are god-awful this year, I assume because we had no winter to speak of. I saw several ticks crawling on the floor of the bathroom at TJMaxx, that's how bad they are this year.

We use the topical stuff on all our little barn cats, but I swear, it just makes the ticks go to the parts with no hair, like their ears and bottoms, so I'm not sure it's worth it.

Plus the insects build up a tolerance. Some vets recommend rotating your topicals.

I'd really prefer to give them something orally, since at least you know they get it, as opposed to the topicals, where you never know if you did it right.

76 My dad volunteered for the SE Asia Wargames. We always had golden retrievers in the family even today with me and my sister's family. Those dogs have more empathy and compassion and love than most people do today. They also help with panic attacks and symptoms of PTSD. Countless nights of grief and pain as been healed by a loving Golden in the bed to calm us down.

87 On dogs and Memorial day. One of the great legends among Green Berets and SOG men is Jerry Shriver. Shiver's story is worth pursuing, and is well-told in Moron-Recommended 'SOG, The Secrete Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam'.

Here is just a bit, but above recommended book has more:

Your HTML encoded text:

He was the only American at CCS who lived in the Montagnard barracks. "He was almost revered by the Montagnards," O'Rourke says.
Shriver's closest companion was a German shepherd he'd brought back from Taiwan
which he named Klaus. One night Klaus got sick on beer some recon men fed him and crapped on the NCO club floor; they rubbed his nose in it and threw him out. Shriver arrived, drank a beer, removed his blue velvet smoking jacket and derby hat, put a .38
revolver on a table, then dropped his pants and defecated on the floor. "If you want to rub my nose in this," he dared, "come on over." Everyone pretended not to hear him; one man who'd fed Klaus beer urged the Recon Company commander to intervene.

The captain laughed in his face.

"He had this way of looking at you with his eyes half-open," recon man Frank Burkhart
remembers. "If he looked at me like that, I'd just about freeze."

I think it was Burkhart who observed that Jerry Shriver was an example of why you should never pick a fight with someone you don't know.

Here is a brief recounting of Shriver:

Klaus survived, Jerry Shiver did not, and his body was not recovered though numerous attempts were mounted.

105 We had a long haired cat who was pretty wild and wouldn't tolerate brushing. Every spring I ended up cutting mats out of her fur with a scissors when it got bad enough she would let me intervene and she'd be half bald for a while.

Treats are a good idea. I tamed that cat to the extent she was by petting her when she jumped up to eat on the chest freezer (red neck cat feeder so dogs wouldn't get cats' food)

Posted by: PaleRider at May 28, 2016 04:53 PM (wYRTH)

106 Our son's doesn't bark ever, either. But when she visits us, she walks in tentatively, whimpering, checking for one of the two attack kittehs.

They've quit going after her, but they do sit and give her the Death Stare, while she averts her eyes.

That sweet dog has been a huge comfort to our boy. She's a small boxer/pit mix, brindle, and a love bug. I took a picture of her a couple of days ago in her little therapy vest. I'll send it along to the thread.

107 Barb,
Is it unthinkable to give the cat a clipper cut for the summer?

Next door neighbor did it herself on her three-legged Yorkie. I accidentally offended her when I first saw Maya & gasped "what happened to her?!?" - poor thing looked like they ran it over with a lawnmower.
But I bet it feels better on these hot days.

Posted by: Chi at May 28, 2016 04:57 PM (dPSy3)

108 If her mats are really bad, I'd let the vet shave her, then use treats going forward as the other morons have suggested. Once you get the brushing associated with treats, it should be easier.

Of course, cats being cats, she may still fight you over it.

110 I've been having a tough time these past few weeks because Miss Sofie Dog, my beloved French Bulldog was diagnosed as having a very aggressive bladder cancer that was masked by looking much like a UTI. She fought it like a bulldog should, but spirit is not enough when it comes to cancer. As was discussed on a previous pet thread, I had a vet do a house call and she passed secure in my arms with daughter H present. There's no good way to do this, but the house call is so much less stressful on all concerned;

She brought joy and affection to Mrs H and me for close to fifteen years, but she's now at peace and resting next to other beloved pets. I envision her bounding across the Rainbow Bridge into the welcoming arms of Mrs H and then trying to retrain our Frenchton Tucker who passed about five years ago, also from cancer.

My sister wrote her epitaph:

The little Dowager sleeps in painless peace tonight, and awakens whole in sunny meadows full of dog bones in the morning...

129 A couple of stories about Troy the Giant Dog. We lost him today. He had the most gorgeous eyes I have ever seen on a dog. They did not photograph well, though. He also had beautiful, soft fur and a tail that curled over his back. He would have looked absolutely regal if it had not been for his slightly comical floppy ear tips.

Our niece brought him home when she lived with us for a while. He had been a street dog, and I suspect that before that he lived on a dairy ranch, because he had ticks. He once broke a leash when walking with me and a smaller dog. Two kind of scary street dogs had approached. I expected a big fight. Troy ran off to play with them, leaving me to take the smaller dog to safety/

He also protected me once from an aggressive adolescent pit bull. Stayed between me and the aggressor. Sat on him for a while. When that didn't work, he backed me toward the door and into the house. He was afraid of gunshots and thunder, though.

He had an even disposition even with the tail-biting puppy, who in turn tried to cheer Troy up as his body systems were failing. Troy must have been uncomfortable for some time, as we discovered today that he had pancreatic or liver cancer. He hid it from us until the day before he could no longer move much.

We're going to miss this beautiful animal. The other dogs are a comfort.

143 Barb, I had two longhairs who became molten fury when it came to clipping and grooming beyond the approved petting zones. The big male had to be held by a person in a leather jacket and gloves while I clipped his adamantium claws. I usually got three or four before he fought his way out of the headlock and scurried under the bed. I could sometimes use a grooming tool on him to cut out patches of matted fur while he was engaged with his food bowl, but he would eventually wise up and chase me around the apartment. Yes, I lived in fear of my fatass cat.

The sweet little female became so wild that we decided to try a professional groomer. I dropped her off, and 10 minutes later the groomer called to say "Lady, you gotta pick up this damn cat!" There was blood and poop and anger in that room, I tell you.

I then just gave up and had the vet put them under for their clips.

Both of them were rescue animals so I cut them some slack. They grew up on the mean streets!

156 I'm not sure if I've posted this before, but here is a military dog story, of a kind:
In the early 1780s, in what is now Tennessee, the pioneer fort of Blue Licks was hit by a quick raid by some Indians, who shot a man, and, when fired upon by the twenty or so white men in the fort, ran off with some of the horses that were hitched outside. The white men decided to pursue the raiders, since previous experience indicated that if they chased hard the Indians might let the horses go in order to escape. So, they mounted up and rode off, leaving the fort in the hands of the women and the man mortally wounded earlier. Also, dogs.
The moment that they got beyond visual range of the fort, they discovered their mistake - the woods were full of Creek and Cherokee, hundreds of them, waiting in ambush. The whites, under James Robertson, immediately dismounted and took cover, but they were in danger of being surrounded if not already so, and without time to reload once their flintlock rifles were emptied the battle quickly devolved into hand to hand fighting, both sides wielding knife, tomahawk, and the butts of empty rifles. Greatly outnumbered, the twenty -odd settlers were in dire straights and were probably being overwhelmed when in rushed theirdogs. The women had opened the gates of the gates of the fort, and the dogs had immediately rushed off to rescue their masters.
It was the dogs that saved the day. The pioneers were able to extricate themselves from the ambush and beat a slow fighting retreat back to the fort - not without loss, as seven men were killed outright and three died of wounds. However, had the ambush succeeded the fort and all the families in it would have inevitably have fallen.

They are mostly outdoors. We do let two in at night. I adore all 12. (We have 12 acres, so it's not like I have 12 on a city lot!)

I started with one stray, and then a female showed up a week later.

Then three days later, I looked out, and the female was grooming a kitten that I judged to be around a month old.

Day after that, another kitten. Next day, one more kitten, 4th day, one more.

I thought I had a year to get them fixed.

I was wrong. 5 months later, I had 7 more kittens.

Two of the new kittehs were females and you can bet your sweet bippy I had them fixed tout de suite. (2 months old)

I had the males fixed awhile back, which resulted in a funny story and led me to send a pic into this thread, and I wonder if I sent it to the wrong address, because I sent it in March.

Basically, yeah. The book I took the account from (Arnow's Seedtime on the Cumberland) describes them as multipurpose dogs - hunting, tracking, bearbaiting (bear hunting?), indian-fighting/guard dogs. I imagine that they were a pretty varied lot, but mastiff, bulldog (the older, less extreme type like the American Bulldog), foxhound-typebreeds would have been part of the genetic pool. Modern day Plott hounds might be a good representativeexample of what they had.

Too bad you're not in Savannah. Our newspaper has a huge section every Friday of cats and dogs, all ages, mixed breeds, and purebreds, for adoption from several rescue groups. And one we've adopted from is very adoptor-friendly.

When deployments were happening fast and furious here, there were an unbelievable number of pure bred dogs whose owners couldn't find anyone to take care of them. Our son's mutt was one whose owner was being deployed again (Ranger) and his wife left him at the same time. Poor pup wasn't housebroken, but son has trained her well. And she has rewarded him a million times over.

193 Howdy all,

As usual, I'm late to the party.

We have 10 dogs...we live in the country and that's contributed greatly to the size of our pack. I am continually amazed at the wonderful, loving dogs that people just throw away like so much garbage. Our dogs range in size from a 5 pound teacup chihuahua to a larger-than-life Great Dane. And I think the Great Dane is the most tender-hearted of the bunch, although when you hear that deep voice you wouldn't believe for a second that she doesn't plan to rip out your throat. Among the pack, not included above: a Doberman, Blue tick Coonhound and a Red Catahoula. And for all the dislike I see/read/hear about chihuahuas, ours are the friendliest dogs you can imagine. I believe it has something to do with not being 'only children.' They were raised as part of the pack. We've been in our current place for 18 years now, and have had many, many dogs. We don't turn them away.

Also have cats, horses and ducks.

if you google Table9 chat i will meet you there right now. Its run by people who are regular Morons. I love to talk horse, dog, and cat. Frankly people find it hard to get me to talk about anything else.

224 We had to put our Golden down a couple of years ago. We live in the country and she was raised initially as a city dog. So she even needed an escort after dark to do her business.
But as her time came, she would ask to go out in the evening and lie on the grass for an hour at a time, head up, looking into the dark. Never did that before. I felt privileged to keep her company and I think she appreciated it. Damn, now I'm starting....

Posted by: Richard Aubrey at May 28, 2016 07:29 PM (lePNR)

225 My cat Dexter also does not like to be brushed, but I got him one of those cat face masks things. I put that on him when I trim his claws and brush him. He tolerates it, just barely, as he growls menacingly the whole time, but he has gotten used to it.

Posted by: navybrat at May 28, 2016 07:36 PM (w7KSn)

226 with a long haired cat that dislikes brushing the best thing to do is get them shaved. Mats can end up working their way down to the skin and they will cause sores and torn skin. This may be why she pees herself when you try to brush her. Some groomers are not gentle about how they remove mats and they never forget it. And if their skin gets torn (i did this once with a beloved cat long long ago) they never forget it and neither will you. Thats one sin that keeps me up at night wondering if God will forgive me, even decades later.

229 Heh.
As I was standing in the front doorway, staring out at nothing, a neighbor came by walking his dachshund Oocho. Tucker just met him 2 days ago, but they are fast becoming best friends - 20 or 30 minutes of chasing each other around. It's really adorable.
Tucker hasn't met too many other dogs that he can sit on...

i cant live with either one. they pick on the fat docile gentle cats for food and that rubs me very very wrong. I had snakes and i pre killed everything they ate. Just throwing in pets is not an easy death, its easily as bad as the dogfighting. Lot of people dont know this. I am best with feeding the snakes chickens. You can breed your own, while having your own eggs, they are already a food source, and you can humanely deal with them before feeding them to your snake. everyones happy.

If they could do it in another year, that would be cool. Please keep them in mind.

Nothing wrong with being wary and/or paranoid. Our property is gated, so nobody gets in that isn't invited. My pet peeve - it's more than that in reality, it flat pisses me off - is these dipshits that show up outside the gate with a mare they want to breed to our stallion. They know about my stallion either by word of mouth, or they've seen him from the main road. We don't advertise. We had a drive-by just last week. I explain to them that a) we're booked for this year's breeding season; b) we're almost completely full for next year; c) we don't breed him to a mare unless we see the mare first. If the mare isn't well cared for, it's a no-go.
Fortunately for us, 90 percent of our customers are repeat business...folks that love and care for their horses. The horse last week hasn't been taken care of...it'll break your heart...seeing how some of these idiots treat their horses.

243 Ben Had, Don't know if this will help in your search but there are Scottish Games all around the country. At least the local one usually has Scottish breeds, including Deer Hounds. Maybe some of the folks involved will know of some breeders or rescue organizations.

I did quarter horses too. Had an own daughter of Dry Doc out of a Hollywood Gold mare as my first good reined cowhorse. Had one of the first Reminic babies as my reiner, and then when she was old, my dressage horse. Let me Give you some advice about the "off brand breeds" theres a guy named Skip in the reiner cowhorse world who wants to get into Akhal Tekes. If you dont just LOVE Mules and the very hottest horses with a Topsail Cody type temperment, dont get one. Not ever. I did a lot of work as a young person with horses that were other trainers failures. A Hoodoo Rocket mare who tried to eat (big name trainer's name redacted) and this Dry Doc mare that was awesome in the saddle but would kill you on the ground were the horses that taught me what goes into handling this breed. I wish to HELL i stayed in cowhorses. By the way the other breeders are awful people with few exceptions and those are the ones in the USA. getting horses out of Russia and Europe is a mess. New standards for Pyroplasmosis testing are making finding horses that are 100% clean and good quality as set by this administration are very difficult.

when i was selling horses i ended up with so many nutballs coming in to look, with odd as hell stories (including "i had this horse in a past life") it was enough to make me puke. I had one guy i flat told "i refuse to sell you a horse under any conditions," who became a dangerous stalker.

Seriously, if you want fancy, get a Lusitano, because thats where the satisfaction is. the people can be different but they are more cool than the Andalusian people. They come in fancy colors, and they can work a cow like you cant believe.

247 My pup tore her cruciate ligament, not a lot of options outside of surgery. I found that Orthopets makes a custom fit knee brace that looks a lot like the Shetland sheepdogs. We are using one now, so far so good no limping after her three mile walks. Was not especially cheap, and if you contemplate this a partnered vets office (if there is one nearby) really helped with the fitting of the device.

i am afraid nothing surprises me. i do walking horse rescue and also specialize in rescuing exotic breeds. nothing worse than getting in a stone blind mare with most of her teeth kicked out, at a body mass one, only to have the owner you rescued her from bring out lawyers paid big money, and sic em on you... Of course, only once you got the mare operated on, spent thousands on rehab, and finally HAVE HER IN FOAL TO YOUR GOOD STALLION, years later. She got the mare back, but she was dead within a month. She didnt even follow my directions for care (no surprise.)

<3 thanks L.I really like coming here. I wish i wasnt always so late to the party, but i have a bunch of stuff to do before it gets hot. Sixkiller, Dr Kill, Ben Had, and likely a few others like Cali Girl and palerider, know as much or more than i do but i like to offer my advice from my rescue experiences pushing me in a "wish i knew this sooner" or "If only they knew about this before they fucked up so bad" way. I love you guys so much i lurk when i ride and check cool threads from my phone when i sit on my little black walking horse. Im lucky hes so lazy for a walker. He doesnt mind if i read, as long as we are stopped where its shady.

253 There is a War Dog cemetary located near South Lyon MI on Milford rd. A group of veterans and locals reclaimed the memorial a few years back as it had been neglected for some time. It is a very impressive cemetary for those who served in other capacities on the battlefield.
