Group ID'd as One of Ben Rhodes' "Force Multipliers" In Selling Iran Deal Also Gave $100,000 to NPR to "Help" It "Report" on the Deal

Thanks to Melanie /‏@mrussRSF, a neat little late Friday covert news fart from the AP:

WASHINGTON (AP) — A group the White House recently identified as a key surrogate in selling the Iran nuclear deal gave National Public Radio $100,000 last year to help it report on the pact and related issues, according to the group's annual report. It also funded reporters and partnerships with other news outlets.

The Ploughshares Fund's mission is to "build a safe, secure world by developing and investing in initiatives to reduce and ultimately eliminate the world's nuclear stockpiles," one that dovetails with President Barack Obama's arms control efforts. But its behind-the-scenes role advocating for the Iran agreement got more attention this month after a candid profile of Ben Rhodes, one of the president's top foreign policy aides.

In The New York Times Magazine article, Rhodes explained how the administration worked with nongovernmental organizations, proliferation experts and even friendly reporters to build support for the seven-nation accord that curtailed Iran's nuclear activity and softened international financial penalties on Tehran.

"We created an echo chamber," said Rhodes, a deputy national security adviser, adding that "outside groups like Ploughshares" helped carry out the administration's message effectively.

...

Outside groups of all stripes are increasingly giving money to news organizations for special projects or general news coverage. Most news organizations, including The Associated Press, have strict rules governing whom they can accept money from and how to protect journalistic independence.

Ploughshares' backing is more unusual, given its prominent role in the rancorous, partisan debate over the Iran deal.

...

Ploughshares' links to media are "tremendously troubling," said Rep. Mike Pompeo of Kansas, an Iran-deal critic.

Pompeo told the AP he repeatedly asked NPR to be interviewed last year as a counterweight to a Democratic supporter of the agreement, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, who he said regularly appeared on the station. But NPR refused to put Pompeo on the air, he said. The station said it had no record of Pompeo's requests, and listed several prominent Republicans who were featured speaking about the deal or economic sanctions on Iran.

Another who appeared on NPR is Joseph Cirincione, Ploughshares' president.

Well isn't that cozy.

The key point to what's missing here is TO WHOM the Iran Deal was being sold.

Answer: The Republicans.

Nobody was fooled by this nuke deal -- except the Republicans. They were sold MAGIC BEANS. Ben Rhodes' minions told the Republicans about all the magical stuff in this deal that the public will never know about. Republicans bought it hook, line, and sinker.

The Europeans think Boeing is subsidized with military contracts from the US Government.

Actually, there are two (sort of) separate companies called "Boeing" (although they are really one corporation). There is Boeing Military Aircraft company (which adsorbed most of McDonald Douglas) and Boeing Civilian Aircraft Company, which makes airliners.
The two business (under one roof) are actually run separately. But from the European viewpoint, we subsidize Boeing commercial aircraft, which makes it alright to subsidize AirBus Industries.

that was the point of the ACAR systems telemetry (data) download that's being analyzed

it noted something amiss under the cockpit first, then spread to the laboratory, etc.

no clue, they are still piecing it together (I didn't know there was another data sharing system between the airplanes and ground, other than the black boxes, etc)

just reporting what they said, I have no idea

if the rudder system did shut down, then that explains the turns

174 It is good that we have experts who can agree on these things and reassure the flying public that these events don't happen all that often.

I, for one, am reassured, even though I refuse to travel by aeroplane; it's the traffic on the way to the aeroport, you see. And those long lines to that stimulating pat down by angry overweight union thugs.

But if I did fly, I would be reassured that everything possible is being done to insure my safety while flying. No expense is too high to reassure the public that mass transportation by air, sea, or land, is safe.

179 The Europeans think Boeing is subsidized with military contracts from the US Government.

It's ironic that the U.S. pays so much to Boeing and other defense contractors because we shoulder most of the burden of protecting Europe. Then the Euro-weenies complain that Boeing has an unfair advantage and use it as an excuse to subsidize Airbus prices.

185 To echo (wait, does that make this an "echo chamber"?) what has been said before, and above, the "deal" wasn't "sold" to anyone.

The public - probably hopeless anyway for some time, but that's besides the narrow point here - wasn't "in favor" of the "deal", any more than they were of O-care, which also was never actually "sold" to anyone.

None of this alters the jaw-dropping, but obvious and long known, emptiness and idiocy of the administration (and much of the Beltway, at this point). An ignorant untalented president surrounded by sub-mediocrities and kids even more unfit for their jobs than even the Clinton idiots in the 90s.

Joe Cirincione - or, "Joey the C" as I dubbed him years go - is a very personable, nice guy, who is as intellectually out of his depth with *any* important national security question as Obama is with, well, almost any serious topic. A personable idiot.

It's standard practice here at the HQ to intone "what would they do differently if they were on the other side?" or "how obvious is it that they hate the US?" or "everything they are doing is calculated to weaken the US". While some of this is true, most of it isn't, and none of it is really central.

People just can't seem to grasp that there are Beltway types (now in control, but on the scene for decades) that are, in fact, so clueless that they actually believe their "ideas" or instincts make any sense. Just as in domestic policy, there really *are* whole schools of "thought", whole infrastructures of support and believers, for suicidally stupid ideas in foreign policy.

People here just don't seem to understand how f***ed we are, not by cartoon villains, but by the sub-mediocre, even delusional tendencies of the "elites" and the pathetic, robotic assent or support of most of our degraded fellow "citizens".

265 We will see how the narrative plays out between now and Monday morning. Gonna go watch my youngest graduate HS this weekend, peace out and God bless..

266 You have to wonder what drives Soros, other than greed, I mean.
It could be a touching, though misguided, desire to improve the world in order to atone for the sins of his youth.
Then again, it could be Satan.

267 Explosive decompression at 37,000 feet would render both pilots unconscious within seconds. Even a small bomb set next to the fuselage would blow a hole in the skin and suck all the air out. Again, we won't know until we get the black boxes and maybe recover some of the wreckage, especially near the cockpit area.

268 That review of "Personal Shopper" made me laugh-

Kisten Stewart is pretty "if you like the emaciated junkie look". Her "delivery is excellent in a slightly stoned, lackadaisical kind of way."

"Also, the English dialogue could have used an editor. In recounting her first encounter with the ghost, Maureen somberly declares, She vomited this ectoplasm and left." If only the audience was that lucky."

Sorry, Ace, but Stewart's masturbation and baring her breasts might work for you, but I think I'll give it a miss.

269 That's not entirely true. The environmentalists made it impossible to fly supersonic over any landfall, which made coast to coast flights impossible.

Yep. If an LA-NY in a2 hour flight option existed - which a Concorde could have done - it would have been a huge money maker. It would have allowed day trips between the two. Same with SF-NY, SY/LA-DC, etc.

But like always liberals fucked it up.

270 This is why I will never fly Emirates. I don't care how luxurious it is, I'm not flying on an airline where every member of the crew is a muzzie.

And yes I realize there are muzzie pilots on BA, AF and others. But not 100% of the crew.

271 The fact that NPR still exists despite conservative cycles in voting shows that we've been sold out.

272 Funding "does not influence the editorial content of their coverage in any way, nor would we want it to," said the Ploughshares spokeswoman.

Nor would we need it to, I would add, since NPR was always going to be in the tank for this deal. The funding just helps get the message out.

274 The Ploughshares financial statement just says "contributions" at over $6M this year. Was that government, Soros...?

Seems like a big money laundering operation to me.
