Euphemism for "Can't do the time, don't do the crime". But this "it" is damned lucky I wasn't on that court-marshal board. "It" would have got a firing squad for desertion of a post in the face of the enemy and treason.

China is on the move to make all of the South China Sea theirs.

And the Brookings Institution says its against the Law of the Sea Treaty.

As Stalin responded once to a Papal condemnation, "How many carrier battle groups does the Brookings Institution have?"

My first instinct was to tell Canada to cut off its oil shipments to China. And then I flashed back to the oil embargo on Japan in 1941.

43 I think I get it. The push to get genitals "out there" for everyone to see.

What is the number cause of adult maladaptive behavior?

Childhood sexual exploitation (the whole range of it). Not beatings, not poverty, not exposure to crime. It's the sex thing. Little boys and girls being used by adults, sexually.

So they're attempting the largest social experiment in the history of the world, based on their hopes that it might reduce the traumatic effects of being sexualized too early, too young.

Yeah, great. Let's find out how this goes. What could it hurt.

57 That theater verdict kind of sucks, actually. I would love it if the lefties had to pay for security, or the consequences of the lack of security, when they put up a "gun free" sign.

That's really what the trial was about. Whether or not a location with a gun-free zone sign was liable for the security of the people within that area, since those people cannot defend themselves.

On average, the Federal Bureaucracy, aka Alphabet City, pumped out on average 3,200 regulations every year since 2004. Congress, who actually has authority to pass legislation, on average 50 new laws each year in the same period.

There is no separation of powers, no consent of the governed and we are ruled over by tyrants.

89 Mrs. Rolling Stone - a Tribute to Haven

And here's to you
Jackie in the "Rolling Stone"
Ryan Duffin loves you don't you know?
Woah, woah, woah
God bless you please
Jackie in the "Rolling Stone"
Hell should hold a place for those who lie,
My, my my.

We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files,
We'd like to help you learn to help yourself.
Look around you all you see are sympathetic eyes
Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home.

CHORUS

Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes
Put it on your laptop with your e-mails,
It's a little secret just the Rolling Stone's affair
Most of all you got to hide it from the feds

CHORUS

Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon
Going to the candidates debate
Laugh about it shout about it when you made the news
Any way you look at it you lose

Where have you gone, Haven Monahan?
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
Woo woo woo
What's that they say? In the Rolling Stone?
Monahan has left and gone away?
Hey, hey, hey!

The Borgias really were not incestuous, that was just bad press by their enemies. They were extremely nepotistic and power hungry as well as wildly ambitious.
Really their main crimes were that they were not Italian, and that Alexander VI initiated reforms that upset the Curia.
He also was very lenient to the Jews by the standards of the era.

93 Good Morning Horde!

Today's polling news.

Yesterday we saw the latest Rasmussen poll drop. I am personally highly amused by all the "BOOM!"s and "ZOMG!"'s I saw over this poll. Drudge in 800 point headline type.

Meanwhile everyone is ignoring the Fox poll which was much much better for Trump. It just continues to show me that people insist on chasing the "who is leading?" part of the poll, and ignoring the information that is actually offered.

Rasmussen is a good poll for Trump. The important factor in the poll is that is shows a slight improvement of his level of support from 41% in the previous poll to 42% in this one. The big change in the top line number was a 2 point loss in Clinton support, which is less important. As I have said, her support number is so variable right now that wild swings like this are to be expected. I don't see her number stabilizing until the end of the Dem primaries.

Overall the RCP average now shows Clinton leading 45.8% to 42.7%. This is a continued gradual improvement in the average for Trump and erosion for Clinton. The trend line is not encouraging if you are a Clinton supporter, because if you look at the graph of the trend over the last month is a very flat downslope. If nothing changes in the trajectory, Trump should begin leading her in polling sometime next month before the convention.

This is VERY different from 2012, where Obama's trendline was a sawtooth pattern. He would drop down, then they would do something to goose his number and pull him back up again.

On a non polling note, last night I saw my first political commercial for the general election. One of the pro-Clinton PACs is trying to drive down Trump's numbers the same way they did to Romney in 2012 before his nomination. They are using the same tactic that was tried in the primary, using Trump's actual quotes (this time with his voice) to generate a negative impression. I'm doubtful that it will work, since I think the electorate is already pretty set in the opinions of him. They already know all of this, and undecideds have already figured all of this into their weighing how they will vote. But this is only my opinion, we will see how it plays out.

I'm not going to vote Trump, but I'd rather see him in the WH than Hillary. So...I refuse to vote for him, but I'm kinda pulling for him (if that makes sense).

That being said, I wonder how much of Hillary's decreasing numbers have to do with the growing intensity of the Democratic primary. Are they going to go back up once she finally finishes off Sanders?

I don't think that Sanders's supporters will all walk off, but I do think that there will be a proportion that do (small though it may be), so I fear that we're seeing the effects of that and less the effects of Trump's rise in actual support.

We'll see.

My fear has never been that Trump would lose, it was that Trump would win, screw things up, and tarnish the Republican brand even further (not that we have an establishment class that's doing it any favors, but I believed that Cruz could begin to rehabilitate it).

Why don't capitalists actually support capitalism?

Because it's not in their self interest.

These CEO's are terrified of a group of very vocal and angry people who could steer business away from them. The culture war is a series of landmines on top of landmines on top of an ocean of quicksand. If they appease the left...the right freaks out. If they appease the right...the left freaks out. Which side do you risk pissing off?

From the decibel level alone, it seems safer to appease the left. Target's example may begin to open some eyes, but we'll see.

They're not supposed to be moral stalwarts, but they're knowledge that not kowtowing to the SJW lynch mob will not negatively affect their business interests is the way to get them to align their actions with moral stalwarts in this culture war.

It's like what Friedman said about how to change the behavior of politicians. You don't do it by electing better people, you do it by making it politically dangerous to act poorly. Apply that to a CEO and their bottom line, and you've got a course of action.

A. There's big money involved - Obama rewards those who support him politically (GE, health insurance co.s), punishes those who do not (see GE dealerships, Gibson Guitar).

B. A lot of companies, especially tech companies, have hired Obama WH staffers as executives. In addition, they may have prominent SJWers on their board of directors.

151 That being said, I wonder how much of Hillary's decreasing numbers have to do with the growing intensity of the Democratic primary. Are they going to go back up once she finally finishes off Sanders?

--------------

This is one of the reasons I am ignoring Hillary's numbers right now and focusing on Trump's only. Hillary is going up and down based on the vacillating opinions of the Bernie supporters. But right now, no one on the Dem side is telling pollsters that they will vote for Trump. At best they are saying they are undecided (because they really want Bernie). So we will see what happens when she finally finishes going through the farce that is the Dem nomination process, and those Bernie fans finally come to grips with the fact that he was never going to be allowed to win.

We will see how many decide to hold their nose and support Hillary. I still think this is a pool that Trump can pull votes from if he is clever. Some of the anti-wall street angst that Bernie is tapping into could be co-opted and combined with the border protection, since the people agitating for open borders are the wall street types anyway.

152 When the votes began shifting out of the 'aye' column on Maloney's measure, booing erupted in the chamber. Almost every Democrat was on his or her feet shouting and eventually they broke out in a chant, pointing their fingers at the other side of the chamber where the Republicans sit: "Shame! Shame! Shame!"

Honest to god, if the Democrats want to play the South Korean Parliament games, I say cross the aisle and start punching the faces of these commie shitbirds.

My dream:

Obama's been working up to this for years, making him out to be a squish who doesn't understand history or international politics just so he can say:

"I apologize that your emperor decided that your honor was worth more than the lives lost through fire bombing. I apologize that your emperor and generals heard of the burning dead under our firebombing and decided that they were going to fight on forever. I apologize that your emperor and generals were so obsessed with their own honor that, despite our warnings of a nuclear attack, they decided to throw your families' lives away."

And then he waves a magic wand and undoes all of the crap he did to the country and world.

154 An apology by Obama for Hiroshima would go a long way toward healing the wounds left by America's invasion of the Pacific and genocide of Japanese- Americans.

--

Personally, I think this is a great idea. Obama is the perfect person to apologize for Hiroshima. Democratic presidents were responsible for the Japanese internment during WWII, and dropping of the atomic bomb, just like democratic politicians propagated the Jim Crow laws and segregation in the south.

You also have to understand who the CEOs are. Generally speaking, they are people who went to the "right" schools , and live among the "right" people. Being called a "butt-hurt Cruz supporter" does not negate any of Trump's current or past positions. People seem to forget that he will get the nomination with less than 50% support from those who voted in the primaries. Just under 40%.

It's up to him to actively court that 60% by saying and doing the right things loudly and unequivocally. The list of SCOTUS picks is a good step if he really does mean it and will fight for those people.

Now he has to be unequivocal on the bathroom laws, the Chi-Com bellicosity, the welfare state and the uncontrolled bureaucracy.

I'm going to repeat my list to stimulate others' contributions

There is a lot you can do against Leviathan without even sticking your neck out. Some thoughts in no particular order:

1 Stop buying stuff
2 Do only what the government directly compels you to do.
3 Pay in cash with a winkwink
4 Cheat the government whenever possible
5 Steal all your entertainment
6 If you know of tax cheating, keep your mouth shut
7 If called to jury, refuse to convict if the law is unjust
8 Discriminate in all your private dealings, without openly saying so
9 If you see a CoC sticker on a business, go elsewhere
10 Vote against all tax levies, particularly school levies
11 Buy firearms and ammo. It's not simply a just-in-case, it's a good financial investment of small sums when savings are yielding 1/4 of a percent.

Nope, sorry.

Cinemark did not simply "fail to provide security." Cinemark *first* actively denied the right of its patrons to provide their own - they banned the carry of firearms on their premise.

It is one thing to say "well, they couldn't have forseen a mass shooting," and that's true as far as it goes. But by barring American citizens from exercising their Right to Keep and Bear Arms as a condition of providing a service, they were then morally accepting responsibility for those Americans' security.

If I don't ban weapons and Insane McCrazypants shows up and starts shooting everyone, then I'm not liable - I'm making no representations one way or the other about the security of my place of business. If I do ban weapons and Insane McCrazypants shows up and starts shooting everyone, then I am liable - because I represented my business as "safer" while simultaneously removing your ability to defend yourself.

In CO at least (as I understand it) it is not illegal to carry a gun on the premises of a private business that has a "No Guns Allowed" sign. But, if the proprietor asks you to leave the premises and you refuse, you can be charged with trespassing, but otherwise no criminal offense just for carrying.

State level militia laws should also invoke the term "regulation" as it was commonly used in eighteenth-century learned English. (Something which baffles modern legal commentators who piffle endlessly about the "well-regulated militia".)

In Jefferson's papers you will find him speaking of, for instance, walking as being an excellent form of "regulation". He wasn't using that term in its now different modern sense, of legal oversight. He was using it to describe exercising.

A "well-regulated" militia were citizens who owned their own arms, used them regularly, and were proficient. And hence could form rapidly into units without requiring initial training in arms. Restate that principle firmly in state law.

So yeah the CEO of the start up, is busting his ass to make it happen. You have a very strange sense of how business works. I also have worked and lived in the SV area and my experience is significantly different from yours.

A lot of start-up CEOs (i've done 4 so I know a few of these folks) are fantastic at getting their idea of the ground but they often have no idea how to take the company to the next level. VCs and other financial backers don't give a wet fart about SJW issues, they care about money, so they bring in someone who they think can take the company to the next level and be as financially successful as possible.

Yea, a lot get churned out by Ivy business schools (including one Donald J. Trump) and that is often a fallback position but the default investors are looking for is someone who will be successful in making money. (If I haven't said it enough, it's about making money).

John Chambers, recently retired from Cisco is a good example. He took over from the founders who were professors with a terrific idea and little idea how to maximize the value of the company and grew to the biggest networking company in the world with annual revenues of almost $50 billion.

He's a Republican, extremely focused on the bottom line and while I was there did not ever bring up SJW issues. Not once. And the investors loved him because he made them a shitpile of money.

307 As a systems guy, it has bugged me since the '70s that airliners have not been made hijack proof by design. It seems simple enough. Have the flight crew enter by their own outside door and have no door to the passenger department. Then have no communication from the passenger compartment to the cockpit other than a single switch which signals to 'Land Immediately' for any inflight issues. You could still have one-way communication from the flight crew to the passengers and attendants to inform them of stuff they need to know but the pilots cannot be blackmailed by a hijacker with threats.
