National Poll Puts Clinton Up Only Two, Within Margin of Error, 42-40

Not too bad. But then, the unification process is already happening in the GOP, and hasn't yet started in the Democrat Party.

Still, the Morning Consult poll validates recent polling showing a Clinton-Trump contest a lot closer than earlier polls did.

According to a national poll of almost 4,000 registered voters taken last week, Clinton leads Trump by just 42 percent to 40 percent, within the 2-point margin of error. She is down 2 percent from a week ago, while Trump gained 2 points. Nearly one out of five voters (17 percent) remain undecided.

3 Trump isn't going up, he's peaking at 40%, Hillary is coming down. I've been saying that I don't think Trump can win the race but Hillary can lose it and this is exactly what I mean.

She is a horrible, horrible candidate and if the FBI doesn't full exonerate her she is in deep doo doo.

17 I think Trump is probably at about his peak. The primary voters who changed affiliation/rallied to give him primary victories because of his celebrity, his reality TV persona, will have to face the real wrath of SJW's for 6 months, I doubt many will persevere. They will be replaced, in part, by conservatives who bite the bullet, but I think the ratio will favor the SJW-harassed.

24 I don't buy that the numbers in November will be anything like this.

My evidence? The thread on the Nevada Dem state convention... and why it will not hurt Democrats in November.

I would have taken what happened at the Dem state convention as a good sign that the GOP in Nevada might be able tohold on to the state Senate, the Assembly, both CD03 and CD04, and even pick up the U.S. Senate seat.

But, this is a false illusion.

Why?

1). Trump

2). Incompetent Ron Paul types used Trump supporters to gain complete control of the party... and they are the epitomy of DERP

3). Dems are using Trump to ramp up their voter registration faster than in '08 or '12.

In other words, what would have been a great year to defeat the Dems won't be... because of Trump.

53 Clinton has never had a race where she's been seriously attacked on the enormous pile of skeletons in her closet. Don Trump is *not* Rick Lazio. He's going to start throatpunching her and not let up.

That said, Trump himself hasn't ever been subjected to the blistering level of ridicule and contempt which the vast left-wing conspiracy and its media machine routinely bring to bear on Republican candidates. He complains that _Megyn Kelly_ was hard on him? He has no earthly idea what the next few months will be like.

Really, first off, any GOP presidential aspirant needs to sit down with capsule histories of how the media will abruptly shift their attitudes to Republicans after the nomination has been secured. This has to be understood.

McCain went from being described by the media as a proud and independent "maverick", the journalists regularly playing up to that image with which he himself is so obsessed, to the media calling him senile and ill and angry and unfit, within hours of his locking up the '08 nomination.

Romney went from being described as the accomplished, calm, responsible adult in the room while vying for the nomination, to being a cold calculating corporate thug who murdered Joe Soptic's wife for illicit profits to be stashed in a Cayman Islands numbered account. Again, this enormous sea change in coverage beginning within hours of the Mittbot taking the nomination.

62 One VERY important thing to keep in mid about "national polls". The Presidential election is NOT a national election. It is an election by State and in particular a few so-called purple States that decide the election. How the candidates do in those States is all important.

The other thing to keep in mind is turnout. Polls do not measure turnout and turnout in those important swing States will do it. And right now the pundits are fully expecting a low turnout for Scankles. While she has rabidly crazy supporters, she also has some colossal negatives, especially among men, and even white women who apparently hate her ugly ass.

I think so too.

And I bet she thinks the same thing. She's got a glass jaw, a personality like a splintered toilet seat, and way more baggage than will ever fit into the overhead compartment. Her only chance in a debate would be if her opponent were too gentlemanly to bring up any of this, but that's not going to be a problem for Trump.

Suck it, Dems and MSM: by demonizing gentlemanly candidates in the past, you created the need for a Trump. And now, you've got one.

My fantasy voting system would allow voters to cast their vote either *for* a particular candidate (in which case their total rises by one) or *against* a particular candidate (in which case their total is lowered by one).

That way, you could have situations where the winner is the candidate with the lowest negative tally. Wouldn't that be awesome? I could vote against Hillary without having to vote for Trump.

84 Trump has a chance the same way that anyone (including poor candidates like McCain has a chance). You win one of the nomination slots for the two major parties in the USA, you have a shot to be president.

But Trump's chance is a poor one. The polling will close, to show a horserace, as it always does. Politics is big business -- the polling firms will stretch to make their product viable through the fall. There will be much gnashing of teeth.

In the end, perhaps Trump will win, but I doubt it. He needs to expand the Romney map and I don't buy that he will turn Dem strongholds like NY.

Who knows, maybe Hillary will impode. Maybe the country wants to move beyond the Obama era and will overlook Trump's many, many faults and hold its nose at the ballot box. Hillary is another poor candidate, albeit one with a greater baked-in margin for error.

Figure Trump has about a 30% chance of victory, and I think that's being generous.

Apparently, understanding is for sissies. Shouting is where the answer lies.

The answer to what, it remains to be seen.

I have very little if any hope that this election will result in anything but disaster no matter what happens.

I am horrified to discover that the best alternative seems to be President Semi-Literate Douchebag accomplishing virtually nothing between fits of flailing and screaming, to be accompanied by four years of hysteria followed by another mad election.

Possibly also accompanied by economic collapse and fighting in the streets, Chinese aggression in Asia and a nuclear exchange in the Middle East.

I think there might be some kind of giant meteor or alien plague in there.

It's not as funny as it sounds. I keep telling people it won't be the end of the world no matter what happens, and it won't, but there's the potential for a really ugly period on a really large scale.

Add to all this the social justice warriors are now into the part of the revolution called the"eat their own" phase. It is likely the Democrat convention is going to be ugly.

This is where Trump comes in. He is divisive to the GOP, but people forget he can also be divisive to the Democrats. His views on trade, companies that go overseas, illegal immigration, etc., have only widened those policy gaps in the Democrat party. A typical standard issue Republican would have a much harder time exploiting those divisions.

It's "Air America," writ large. Dems have cobbled together a disparate set of constituencies that hate each other. The only way to herd those cats is to tell each one - out of earshot of the others - just what they want to hear. Air America failed, I think, because they couldn't narrow-cast their message that way. Now the Dems have the same problem on a national scale. Every group is pulling out its IOU, and comparing it with the other groups', and starting to realize they've been had.

162 It'll be interesting to see the "unification" in the Democrat Party. The chasm is pretty wide. And the Dems have now grown a crop of nasty, bitter, whiny wimps and community organizers a la obama, holder, la raza, soros, occupy, blm, sharpton, jackson, unions, greenies, group bullies and whiny little b*tches in general.
My hope is, they finally reap what they have sown.

Posted by: artisanal 'ette at May 17, 2016 03:42 PM (qCMvj)

Yes, my initial reaction to the reports of Dem infighting was "meh. In the end, they'll all be good little sheeple and vote for Hillary because they're so sure the GOP will take tampons away from women and make everyone go to church."

But it's going to be awful difficult to paint Trump as a socon (which is why they are playing the "woman-hater" card).

And the Dems have become so intolerant of views that are not hard-left and so angry when anybody disagrees with them about anything that it's hard to think of the spoiled, entitled Berniebots shrugging their shoulders and saying "well, you win some, you lose some."

If there is one thing these people don't do, it's lose with grace and dignity.

Exactly. How do you bring together a coalition of what amounts to hate groups, groups of special snowflakes that believe they are the #1 victims of whatever the crime is, who believe they are owed everything ahead of everyone else?
When you divide everyone into assigned victimization organizations, hard to imagine they won't play victim. Cater to groups that use violence, intimidation, and criminality, and you will get more of that.

Look at what Trump went through in the primary. It is was like one of those stupid fake c. 1980-90s wrestling all in throw downs with 20 wrestlers in the ring. It was a ugly rumble.

Hillary on the other hand had to face Bernie and for a short time a drunken Irish pub singer from Baltimore and still cannot put it away.

Polls like the ones we are seeing are a positive for Trump. It means his way of fighting ugly works because it drags the opponent down with you. Then it becomes a battle over who has the biggest group of loyal supporters willing to vote for you. This stupid idea that people vote in mass for someone just because they dislike the other candidate has never come true in my lifetime (granted I was born in the 1970s). In the end people are motivated to vote by people they want, not out of dislike for the other guy or gal.

Trump can handle it (I think). He's probably sitting on some nasty research - there's so much. The lib media keep saying Hillary is already "vetted" which is hysterical. They have sat on so much negative publicity on her over the years. Trump can bring up old news and bring it to the ears of so many Democrats who wouldn't listen to a conservative candidate. Many Dems who only live in the liberal world of news know nothing about the Clintons. Trump is one big bullhorn, everyone is listening.

236 "any GOP presidential aspirant needs to sit down with capsule histories of how the media will abruptly shift their attitudes to Republicans after the nomination has been secured."

Who wins the media war? This will affect turnout and swing the middle in the swing states, and decide the outcome.

Rs usually start at a disadvantage, but Trump has Mad Media Skilzz. I worry that MSM will try to ignore him and deny him attention, more than I worry about they're being biased. In the end, I don't think they can help themselves, and Trump will get his air time.

If you just look at the last week, we had a reveal that Bill gave his Energizer $2 million from the Foundation. MSM mostly ignored it, but it still got some attention. "Hillary, how does it feel to grift all that money for Chelsea's Legacy only to have Bill spend it on another blonde floozy."

Meanwhile, NYT does a hit on Trump that backfires. Bill is now fair game.

We're going to have five months of this. e.g. at the right time Trump will drop the audio of Hillary cackling over getting the rapist off. Video of the Benghazi parents saying they were lied to. Pedo Island. Stolen White House silverware. It'll go on and on.

Trump can handle it (I think). He's probably sitting on some nasty
research - there's so much. The lib media keep saying Hillary is already
"vetted" which is hysterical. They have sat on so much negative
publicity on her over the years. Trump can bring up old news and bring
it to the ears of so many Democrats who wouldn't listen to a
conservative candidate. Many Dems who only live in the liberal world of
news know nothing about the Clintons. Trump is one big bullhorn,
everyone is listening.

He already took a shot at Fauxcahontas. It would be comedy gold if
they put Biden in. The material there for Trump would make him comedian
of the world.

Posted by: artisanal 'ette at May 17, 2016 04:02 PM (qCMvj)"

What would be particularly satisfying would be if Trump also has dirt on the media personalities that he has been socializing for the last few decades. The "Gray Wall of Silence" protects newsies from the consequences of their bad decisions the same way that the "Blue Wall of Silence" protects police from being turned in by other cops.

Imaging the fun when some news personality with sordid secrets takes on Trump and has Trump do a public dirt dump on live TV with internet follow up so that even thought the gatekeepers try to spike the story, everybody winds up knowing.

Both the story and the attempt to cover it up also helps reduce the credibility of the media which is always going to help Republicans.

It's amazing how so many people have ignored 2 CENTRAL FACTS. They're as obvious as can be, but they're blinded by their own biases:

1) Trump has Magical Powers (to put it simply).

Just think about it. How the hell did this guy beat 16 other guys, to get to this level, while Hillary is STILL trying to scrape off Crazy Bernie (THAT's Trump's doing also, BTW). Sometimes I think the REAL problem "True Conservatives" have with him is that they recognize this, and naturally conclude that Trump has simply made a deal with Satan!

2) Hillary REALLY, REALLY sucks!

Even Democrats don't trust her, and don't like her. Even after DECADES of "First Woman President" brainwashing. For God's sake, even Crazy Bernie - who was basically just the ONLY Dem who was crazy enough to take on the Clinton Machine - is giving her a run for her money, and might have even won if the Democratic Primary wasn't "fixed".

hate to tell you this, but Romney had an excellent chance against an incumbent with unemployment at 7% (using the bullshit counting method), and he managed to lose.

There's a very real chance he'd be what Al Gore was in 2004.

Sure, there was a core of the GOP that stood by Trump regardless of what he said or did. And now there is a cadre of the rest of the GOP who may have started drinking early enough to vote for him in November.

But he's not going to pull the additional voters he needs with his "out and proud a$$hole" persona. Hence 40%. I wish him well for the sake of Not Hillary but it sure feels like wishing.

She managed to claim the uncoveted turf of those who demand their Walter Mondales to be a bit more like Pablo Escobar, or demand their Pablo Escobars to be more like Walter Mondale.

Of course media/party loyalists give her 35 points. But she starts hitting up against the stink ceiling rather quickly.
