Burlington College Shutters Due to Unsustainable Debt-- Debt Acquired Under Leadership of Bernie Sanders' Wife

unable to recover from “the crushing weight of the debt” incurred under Jane O’Meara Sanders, the college’s former president and wife of Bernie Sanders.
At the end of 2010, Ms. Sanders took out $10 million in loans on behalf of Burlington College to purchase a 32-acre swathe of land from the Roman Catholic diocese, which put the land up for sale to help cover the costs of a $17 million sexual-abuse settlement.
As Heat Street reported last month, the college almost immediately fell short on its financial obligations as fundraising pledges and commitments Ms. Sanders cited in the loan agreements never materialized.
Less than a year after leading Burlington College into massive debt, Ms. Sanders resigned, taking with her a $200,000 severance package.

The left seems to enjoy its own golden parachutes, but they kick up a lot of fuss when they see a non-leftist with one.

88 I've been involved in the preparing of documentation to support a loan being taken out on behalf of a college and part of that documentation involved some pretty detailed disclosures re: commitments to give along with representations as to past percentages of honoring of commitments.

Let's just say that I find claims of fraud in the loan application process to be persuasive given the shortfall here.

Look, stuff happens and campaign goals aren't met and large donors don't come through or, how to put this politely, there is a lack of actuarial occurrence in relation to planned giving donations coming to fruition. But you don't get a loan like that unless you have a good 60+% commitment in hand by which I mean you have the checks already.

That's not speculative. That's based on watching the inner workings of this stuff for many decades.

But, hey, she meant well.

Also, $200k isn't that huge of a golden parachute.

What did happen? We heard that she was fighting, then that what happened was that a convoy she was in drove into an enemy controlled area and she was the only survivor.

And the stories of the rescue keep varying from she was abused and then rescued to, she was injured and was being cared for.

Except that between labor, insurance and utilities, most venues are charging huge fees for even a four hour rental. And most don't let you go near the kitchen. So most "community groups" can't go near these.

Hillary treats the media worse than almost any other public figure. When you cover her, all you do is file her press releases--no interviews, no questions, no unplanned photos or videos, in other words, you get drug around the country in trains, buses, and planes for nuttin honey. The feel obligated to her because of BJ, but, most of them cordially loathe her and while they won't actively damage her, neither will they exert much effort on her behalf.
