2 Good morning Horde. May I interrupt the Dump for a moment... my employer is closing its doors in 8 weeks. I was completely blindsided by this, we were profitable and doing good business. I can't explain further without risking my anonymity.

Not a lovely thought at my age to be back in the market again, but life continues to be real. And may every socialist-leaning fuck die on the barbed cock of Satan.

15 Bat Chain Puller I feel for you. I got laid off end of October and have been looking for a new position since. Tech guy @50. Not the easiest. A couple of weeks ago I hit bottom after getting three rejections in a single day. Moved from feeling unemployed to feeling unemployable.

I got better. And looking like I am closing in on an offer very soon.

So, main thing hang in there. Having been on the other side I know it feels like it's easy for someone to say. But, really, hang in there.

39 A quick heads-up before I leave for work: SpaceX is planning a satellite launch at 1:21 am Eastern Thursday morning. I don't know if I can stay up that late so I might have to take a nap in the evening after work.

They will be launching a Japanese satellite to a geosynchronous orbit. The first stage will once again attempt a landing on the droneship, but since it will be coming in hot and fast, their press release says a successful landing is "unlikely".

The last time they used language like that they punched a hole in the deck. Think Wile E. Coyote on a cliff face.

AZ now how mandatory e-verify, and harsher penalties for ID theft. It's a good thing. Of course, as Sheriff Arpaio pointed out, Obama is trying hard to legalize as many of the illegals as he can, so that they won't need to use their fraudulent ID docs to take Americans' jobs.

There is no choice. I do not "support" Mr. Trump. After his incredibly revolting and frankly frightening outburst at Rafael Cruz, I'm more appalled at this man and everyone - EVERYONE - who is ignoring or making excuses for his record past and present and statements.

That said, I cannot allow Hilary Clinton or Bernie Sanders anywhere near the Executive Branch. That will be the bitter end.

But if anyone thinks Donald Trump is going to reverse or attempt to reverse the damage of the past 8 to 50 years, they're delusional.

I'd rather gamble on the Bottle marked "X" than the one with rat poison and plutonium in it.

This is such a weak argument that I am starting to automatically discard it. The only way a person not voting for Trump would help Hillary is if that person was the tie-breaker in their state's election, AND their state's electoral votes were the deciding factor.

For instance, not voting for Trump in Texas is not going to put Hillary over the top.

He has no concept of how to govern as a co-equal as opposed to a dictator/owner and not the foggiest idea of the Constitution and limited government.

I have to say, after yesterday with Ted dropping out and witnessing the stark-raving idiocy of Donald Trump's insults and consipiracies, I'm strangely at peace. Maybe it's just been a building sense (or realization) that we're on a path we obviously can't change, but I don't have the despair I felt when TFG was elected or worse, reelected in '12. I truly realize we are a nation of fools and, I guess, until we wallow in what we've wrought in a hard enough sense, this ship isn't turning around anytime soon. Or ever. I loved my country, but it has been transformed. America 2.0 sucks. I give Donald Trump a 1% chance at winning the general and a 1% chance at being, at best, a sane president who will do this country some good.

152 Good morning Morons!

For those of you on the Trump train drinking Trump vodka martinis, I wish you well! I'm not taking this particular journey, but enjoy your trip

In polling news there are no new polls in the RCP average but an old poll did drop out. This tightens the average a little bringing Clinton's lead to only 6.2%.

I've been taking the polls long enough to see some trends. Trump's support has been remarkably static, varying from a low of 38.8% to his current high of 40.5%. The variability in polling is all from Hillary's numbers where she had fluctuated between 46ish% and 50ish% in the average.

For Trump to win he needs to move up off of that 40% mark. My argument remains that he can't build his support by tearing down hers. I think she is already at the lowest point she can get and would still win if the election was held today.

We will see what his plan is to build his support, but reports are he is still far behind in building his campaign, so is likely to be busy for awhile. The good news is that Clinton still has to deal with Bernie, so she is busy too.

Trumps policies include support for partial birth abortion, socialized medicine and ruinous economic protectionism and kleptocracy. There is no amount of explaining that makes him any better option than Hillary (who I also won't vote for).

And that is not even touching on Trump's vile lies and poor character during this campaign (and the rest of his life).

Anyone who supports someone like Trump deserves exactly what they get (no matter who wins... it is a near certainty that our Republic is done for).

158 It would be a huge understatement say that I'm disappointed with whom the Republicans chose as their nominee.

I'm sure that I'll suck it and vote for him, but it won't be easy.

I understand the sentiment behind supporting Trump. I just think that should he win, those who think they are sticking it to the man are going to find out they're the man.

160 Trump strikes me as Obama, v 2.0. Despite that I want to acknowledge one difference and that is he likes the Rolling Stones. Yes, they're elderly but then so is Trump. Last night he used "Start Me Up" as his entrance theme song to his victory party. One of my friends son was there and greatly enjoyed the free food and drinks, and I enjoyed the story.

161 "The GOP needs to be destroyed!"
================================

So, if the GOP needs to be destroyed, how as a practical matter do you get the GOP nominee elected? All that takes a lot of GOP effort, time, and money at the state and local level. If the structure is smashed, and the Republicans are dispersed, how does that translate into a GOP Presidential win?

Honest question. I used to work at the county level. (Now I am no longer a Republican.) But I've seen a little bit of what it takes to win an election. And it's not a bunch of free spirits just winging it.

178 Trump has a very narrow chance of winning this election, absent an FBI intervention to save our asses. He has to win Florida, and that's an absolute must. Without Florida he is toast. He also has to win one of Pennsylvania, Ohio or Michigan (assuming he has no chance at all to win New York, which should be obvious). Plus Virginia.

I don't think he gets even close, but he is a talented campaigner so we will see. Mostly, I'm praying for the FBI primary to be a real thing.

180 The sad fact is, our Republic was lost many years ago.
Early 1900's is when the effort really took off.
By the 1930's it was all over but the crying.
Go look up the Reece report from 1954, then read the book Foundations their power and influence published in 1958.
Names that pop up over and over again in our demise Rockefeller, Carnegie, Ford, Guggenheimer to name a few.
Both
sides of the aisle squashed the Reece committee all the way back in
1954. The powers that be were already entrenched in the government and
they have been entrenched ever since.
Sadly there will be no change in direction for the country, it wont be allowed.
Both parties are responsible for this mess we are in.

I was down in Vics neighborhood the past couple days visiting son, telling son the 'Early Trump' message. His response was, 'Why didn't I ever hear that? ' He understood why I can support Trump, while still cringing from time to time.

Yep. We're screwed no matter what.

And if, by some miracle, Trump gets elected and turns out to be a royal f-up who dicks over conservatives on everything - well, you Trump supporters will never be forgiven for forcing him upon us. You will be seen as equivalent to Obama voters. Consider that before you resume your gloating.

The best case scenario is that he gets in and does OK - as a liberal Republican. I certainly don't expect to see him do anything about the size of government or even about the illegals.

I hope Cruz tells Trump to go fuck himself.

320 " I will remind Trumpsters of all the shit they spewed about my chosen political philosophy."

This is so much garbage. There are always those in every faction who are agitators and there to disrupt. The fact is, as has been seen on this board as well as many others throughout the primary, is that the VAST amount of Trump supporters also declared that they would easily support Cruz if he was the nominee.

What is actually most true is quite the opposite. It is the Trump supporters who have been most vilified...as "Trumpsters, Trumpbots, etc and constantly being referred to as "Dumb Hicks." And the biggest of all is the nevertrump "movement." I saw no nevercruz movement that has spent millions of dollars in negative advertising and with so-called "conservative" figureheads leading it. It has been Trump that took the barrage in this race. And if you believe that the majority of Trump supporters are like the clowns spewing shit on Breitbart, then you are as clueless as the GOPe has been the last 9 months. Check the demographics that Trump just won in Indiana...it was across the board.

324 I guess the most interesting thing about the remaining primaries is-

how many people will vote for Katshit?

I can't really imagine principled conservatives voting for a guy running to the left of Hillary! i.e.. Katshit.

So, Ima predict Katshit gets a small decrease in voters.

Cuz people like to vote for a winner.

With conservatives who would've been for Cruz mostly going for Trump, because that way they get some of what they want.

So, maybe a 5-15% bump for Trump.

YMMV.

Son lives in Madison suburb (and just bought a house there). Since two of mine are now onboard with WI, I have been thinking of moving myself. Joking with son that he had to have an in-law apartment set up for me and the dog and cat in the new place. You should have seen the look on the girlfriend's face. Hah!

Regardless of what you decide to do, go out today and borrow all the money you possibly can.

Refinance your home with a 100% value loan. If you own your car, sell it, keep the cash and lease a low end pickup with nothing down. Don't max out your credit cards, as the cash line will probably have an ultra high interest rate, but get additional cards from other banks if you can.

Keep all the cash in a bank that isn't associated with any of your loans.

This is a critical time to prepare.

He could've stayed in a been all spiteful and weird and played into the GOPe schemes of a Brokered Convention.

However-

He looked at the numbers (Big Boy Stuff)

concluded that he couldn't put together a winning coalition (Big Boy Stuff)

considered whether he preferred the GOPe hack as Presidential candidate and a split party loss to Hillary! (Big Boy Stuff)

and, IMHO, made the choice to enable Trump's win because he thought him the best candidate who could emerge from the present situation (Big Boy Stuff).

So, yep. Big Boy. Mature adult who doesn't let the perfect be enemy of the good and throw a tantrum.

And as always-

Related side note. I really want somebody to tell me what metric is being used when they call a liberal supreme court pick/justice "moderate." Last I checked, we could pretty much guarantee how any of the 4 current ones would vote on an important issue, and it just so happens to always be what the liberal party wants. I'm not. Whatever his shortcomings he's an honorable man. Besides, as others have said, he's young, and in theory has other opportunities ahead.

Meanwhile, Kasich continues to play his role. I still expect shenanigans at the convention, GOPe types may be trying to cozy up to him in public, but he's still an interloper, they still want one of their own, and there's still ample room for dirty tricks.

As for myself, I've come to the conclusion I no longer have a dog in this hunt. I'm simply going to worry about the things I can have an impact on and focus on the things that really matter.

Hillary at the top of the ticket will drive those numbers even lower as the younger Bernie voters will stay home and not vote for her because they feel cheated. Additionally, she most certainly will not carry all of the States that her husband did in 1992. She can write off Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia for starters.

Posted by: Joe Hallenbeck at May 04, 2016 09:47 AM (HWLn9)

I state my reasons every single day. I am the one who is dismissed for a wave of the hand, for whichever of the following reasons is most relevant to the topic at hand:

-[]'s stated policies are too insane and unworkable, and in his ironclad commitment to them he'll drive away voters
-[]'s stated policies are just a clever liberal lie, he'll really do the exact opposite
-[]'s stated policies are a lie and he doesn't actually have ANY policies because he's so stupid he tries to eat his cereal with a fork every morning.

We are talking past each other and have been for months now. Each side is considering a completely different reality, a completely unrelated set of "facts." This is a function of the left's unmooring society from reality for the past several decades. It has reached even us. And we've gotten used to it.

The country is on its way to electing someone who rejects that consensus leftist narrative of reality (that there isn't one!) and substitutes his own. It isn't perfect. But it's better than what the forces of global socialism have in store.

In my opinion the comments at Breitbart were a cesspool long before Trump came along. There are sometimes 2000-3000 comments to an article, most of which are the text equivalent of grunting. Disqus comment sections in general have a poor signal-to-noise ratio. I don't know why.

497 Just to clarify, I am not withholding my vote from Trump *just* because his supporters are assholes.

It's also because Donald Trump is an asshole, his advisors are assholes, and his supporters are assholes.

And because he is ignorant of really basic things a president should know, like what the Nuclear Triad is, and that there's no such thing as the "Department of Environmental."

It's because he is a New York liberal with a lifetime record of financially supporting politicians like Chuck Schumer, Hillary Clinton, and Terry McAuliffe.

It's because he ran a gutter campaign and any vote I cast for him would be an endorsement of that campaign.

It's because I think all of his tough immigration talk was a con, and his history suggests it probably was.

It's because eight years under a thin-skinned autocratic megalomaniac was enough.

It's because his tax cut proposal is just warmed over Bush-Ryanism, when we really need a top-to-bottom rework of the tax code.

It's because he thinks using eminent domain to kick old ladies out of their houses to build a car park for limos is a great thing.

It's because his character is nonexistent, his policies are lacking, and his ethics are as bad as Hillary's.

502 Correct, it's a vote for whichever party in our binary system is less scrupulous, a vote for your own powerlessness, and demonstrates a commitment to complaining but not acting to improve your situation.

---------

I have no clue if this will happen or not, but let's say that Trump and Hillary receive a much lower percentage of the vote than previous elections. One of them will still likely win, but winning with a smaller portion of the electorate does send a message. How big that message is - I cannot say. And it would not change the fact that one of them would be the President. But it would weaken whatever mandate they may think they have. This may simply be a matter of degrees, but it is still true nonetheless.

Right now, there are so many factors and so many unknowns.

Nope. You picked this fucker, not me. And I have no obligation to support someone I think is unfit for office. If the goal was stopping Hillary, there were 16 other candidates who weren't repulsive to pick from. I would have (begrudgingly in some cases) voted for any of those 16 candidates.

I will not vote for Trump because I think he will be a catastrophic president. The fact that he (presumably, for now) has an R after his name doesn't change that.

In NY, there is a lawsuit against the unconstitutional gun laws enacted by Cuomo. Once Scalia died, they put it on hold because even a split decision would let the unfavorable lower court ruling stand.

Confirming now guarantees that type of overreach is never rolled backed. It also put another arrow in Obama's quiver to execute that type of action.

The status quo is best.

And you all focus on the one thing that gets you upset so that you can avoid the discussion on the actual problems that Der Trumpenfuhrer have. Actually, I think I have been rather mild in my criticism of Trump's supporters. I have tried to stay away from labeling ALL of them as ignorant hillbillies, because I know that is not the case. Initially, back the fall, I tried to make cogent arguments about why Trump was a bad idea and that Republicans should favor a more principled constitutional conservative. But MOST of the Trumpies weren't going for it. They were intent on declaring that they were supporting Trump for purely emotional reasons, out of rage or false hope or blind trust. Believe me if you think I've been the worst then you should get out more.

Honestly, if Trump had been in Hillary's shoes in 2012, I don't think he would have acted much differently than Hillary had. Like Hillary, he is about preserving himself over doing his duty. Look at the number of times he has used the bankruptcy code to get out of bad deals. Did he think for a minute how terrible it was that he was stiffing his creditors? I doubt he gave it a moment's thought. Now of course letting civilians die in a warzone is much different than stiffing creditors, but the same basic logic applies.

That is also not true. I am in favor of deporting illegals, because they have broken the law. What I have derided is the notion that illegals represent some "Mexican invasion" or some horrible terrible threat akin to a military-style invasion. People who try to link illegals to paranoid nutty Reconquista theories, things like that. I don't tolerate that kind of nuttery and I do think MANY - not ALL, but MANY - who hold these theories use arguments that derive from some fairly racist premises.
For instance not long ago there were some commenters here who claimed that individuals who fly Mexican flags aren't "real citizens" even if they have legal citizenship papers. And I pointed out that we don't hold that standard for hillbillies who fly Confederate flags. Hell, people who fly Canadian flags don't seem to bother most people. So why do Mexican flags get people so upset? You tell me. I have my answer but I don't think you will agree with it.
