Obama Jokes About Making a Ton of Money Giving Speeches At Goldman Sachs-- You Know, Like Hillary Does/Did

Is this actually a joke?

Hillary wasn't taking that money jokingly. And when Obama takes that money -- and hooboy, will he take that money -- he won't be taking it ironically, either.

At the White House Correspondants' Dinner:

"If this material works well, I am going to use it at Goldman Sachs next year," Obama said, adding that he would earn "some serious Tubmans."

The joke was a light jab at Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who has come under fire by opponents for taking in about $675,000 for making three paid speeches at Goldman Sachs events.

It's an interesting new phase in politics, where the politicians are openly joking about their cynicism and mercenary hunger for money and corporate comforts, and the public is wise enough to know these aren't jokes.

Kind of a dangerous time.

Open thread.

Thanks to not_steve.

I'm at the point where I think a Harvard degree should be an outright disqualifier for public office. Hell, throw in the rest of the Ivy League as well. Most of the students are the sons and daughters of privilege who are told that they are the best and brightest, and are being groomed to take their "rightful" place in the power structure.

At this point I'd rather vote for people who went to community college or vo-tech school. They have less Marxist indoctrination and are more likely to have a toehold in the real world.

Karl Denninger at the Market Ticker has been saying for years that we're really in a depression and that it's being masked by deficit spending.

He says that if the budget was balanced, GDP would instantly drop by 40%. That would be worse than the depression of the 1930s.

My gaydar is highly accurate. I have lots of gay friends (here and in ATL), and my ATL gays used to warn me about certain guys I was attracted to. "Jane, hon.....he doesn't play on your team."

That means that Citibank - I said to the head of the bank, "How big are you compared to, let's say, Citibank?" And they said, "That is like a small subsidiary, you know, it's like. It's true. It's like a little bank, by comparison. But it's my tenant. I have two big buildings: Bank of America Building in San Francisco, and 1290 Avenue of the Americas - one of the biggest buildings in New York, biggest floor place. And I got that through China. Not friendly. Unfriendly. It was a war. And its turned out to be a great deal with a wonderful partner. And we ended up making a fantastic deal. And they buy condos like they're, uh, like they're mashed potatoes from me. You understand. Like pancakes."

Extremely bright, was valedictorian of the class; had very high ACT score (36?). Very pretty, very good athlete (top sprinter for girls at state meet). She's bi-racial (mom was white, her father was bi-racial black white). So she ticks off all the columns.

She's going to Harvard and will have about $260K in loan debt when she finishes (which should be about.....now).

I genuinely hopes she succeeds. Really nice young woman, really smart and was not afraid of hard work (whether as an athlete or in class). She and my son still text each other occasionally.

And at home, the ridiculous spending, the lack of any budget (just continuing resolutions) until the Republicans got control of the Senate after 2014.

He didn't do it alone. He had lots of help from the rest of his party. (spit)

Staying home and taking care of the kids you've ignored and used as props to get to this level of power their entire lives is your whole agenda now.

One of the things that makes me angriest about Obama is the lack of control of the Mexican border, and the immense amount of cheap heroin that has gotten into the country because of that.

I know two people that have lost their kids to heroin overdoses. I have friends that know a lot of others. There is an epidemic of heroin addiction in a lot of places now that had little heroin abuse 10 years ago. And now it's a lot of white suburban kids using. And dying.

The difference is the cheap heroin and the cartels bringing it in and distributing it. Over the Mexican border. Barry could care less.

340 I just want to huggle little Witchy-Purr over there in the sidebar. So much. Adorbs, even with the hexing.

And, more on-topic: Preznit Shit Midas has ushered in the era of WASTF.

And, speaking of memes, acronyms and internet-speak, here's one that's new to me: unf.

Apparently, it means "universal noise of fucking" and you pull it out when xyr or xym is so damn hot and sexy you'll probably have a spontaneous gasm of some kind just looking at them or being in their presence. Eh, my daughter kind of explained it to me as the noise actresses make when they are pretending to be So Turned On in sex scenes and they kind of suck in/bite their bottom lip. So right after I asked what it meant I saw unf used on two different sites, like what usually happens when you are confronted with a new word or phrase.

But the truth is pretty soon I'm not going to understand a damn thing on the internets.

364 I'm not really sure. From what I gather, she does fine with all the homework problem sets, and she's getting an A in lab, but she says the tests are nothing like what they do in class. I think part of the problem is that the university has the same exam for all sections of that course, regardless of the professor. I think the REAL problem is that my girl is at a mathy/sciency school and she's finding out she's not really a mathy/sciency person as much as she thought she was.

Posted by: bluebell at May 02, 2016 09:35 PM (2WwbN)

WTF? Professors should be writing their own exams. Can't the professor even teach to the test?

My recommendation is to sneak into another Professors section and see if that helps. At the very least, picking up the books that those Professors use (if different) would be a good idea.

376 Life around us all, well, stinks. But Life is also good, and sweet. 4 year old and 6 year old grandkids had their first-ever T-ball practice tonight. Oh my. Imagine a field of little kids who can't even tie their shoes, trying to hit a ball on top of a stick, to the rest of the kids who are wearing mitts on the wrong hand. Batter whiffs it 80% of the time. Fielders run the wrong way and end up in the only mud puddle on the field. Geese land on the field and the kids starting chasing them instead of chasing the ball that has barely been hit. More of a roll, actually.

Nice! I would encourage her to suck it up and do the Chem class over the summer. If it's only one semester she can do it solo and devote her full time and effort to it. Quitting and changing majors seems like a compromise.

Besides its not like it's gonna get easier, and she'll have a lot more confidence when she overcomes her hardship.

I want to see Obama live a long, long life.

So he can watch his "legacy" be undone and be mocked unmercifully and endlessly.

That will hurt him more than a jail sentence, to be reduced to an ineffectual token.

That's exactly why I'm grateful that he's relatively young. He'll have decades of irrelevance and repudiation to live with. Decades of being the "NEVER AGAIN" guy.

News from Houston.

Parents in Mexico send their four year old girl with a smuggler into Houston. He rear ends another car, and leaves her in the car with severe injuries including a skull fracture

Police locate him and arrest him. He says his instructions were to drop her off at a grocery store parking lot, but he has no names of who to give her to. Just drop her at a parking lot
