May first. Which means I'm 4 short days from another holiday Americans have decided to celebrate.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for another excuse to drink.

But Seriously Mexico: Celebrating beating the French is like celebrating managing to get your feet into the correct shoes.

1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, May 01, 2016. On this day in 1884 Communist labor unions meeting in Chicago issued a proclamation of the demand for an eight-hour workday in the United States. This had first been pushed by a British communist named Robert Owen. They had some success in a few industries by organizing strikes. However they got no general success. The feds first passed a law making a 40 hour week for railroad workers but it was not until 1937 before the general 40 hour week was passed into law with the unconstitutional Fair Wage and Labor Act pushed by arch criminal FDR. If you think he did it to help workers you would be wrong. It was a stealth plan to attempt to decrease the massive unemployment in Great Depression - I. It did not work and only made the situation worse (like everything he tried).

Why is there no mention here that Obama has been diverting money from the CDC for years for his pet socialism projects for cronies in the inner city urban areas and PR made their own bed with massive socialist give-aways? They should change their slogan to Detroit of the Caribbean.

37 Happy Commie Day everyone

just to confirm that it really is a religion, here's Rev. Bouck White, 1915:

"I believe in God, the Master most mighty, stirrer-up of Heaven and earth.
And in Jesus the Carpenter of Nazareth, who was born of proletarian Mary, toiled at the work bench, descended into labor's hell, suffered under Roman tyranny at the hands of Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried.
The Power not ourselves which makes for freedom, he rose again from the dead to be lord of the democratic advance, sworn foe of stagnancy, maker of folk upheavals.
I believe in work, the self-respecting toiler, the holiness of beauty, freeborn producers, the communion of comrades, the resurrection of workers, and the industrial commonwealth, the cooperative kingdom eternal."

He wrote that while in jail for desecrating and burning the flag at his Church of the Social Revolution in NYC.

Nothing has really changed since.

69 I bought a new car. Well it was a month ago. I've been out of town for the 3 weeks after I bought it. I think I got a great deal. I utilized the info on a site called Real Car Tips.
Plus I came up with my own ideas. I started off looking at 3 different makes of cars. Went shopping without the wife at first. Told each sales person I was just starting out and trying to see if I am comfortable in their car (mainly legroom) and of the other 2 I still need to see. No, I do not want a test drive until I have the wife with me. Got info and would leave.
Round 2. Take wife and go see the 3 different dealers again. Take a test drive, maybe even get some prices. But, she still needs to look at the other 2 cars. Then I followed the info on the guys website. Truecar was okay, but knowing the dealer is giving about 300 to Truecar to make a deal gives you some leverage to not use Truecar in the end. I was able to do most of the paperwork over the phone and with emails. I could always check the math, which surprisingly, almost always has errors in the favor of the dealer! /s I had my financing arranged through my CU. It was also good that I didn't HAVE to have a car, and per the websites instructions, I started doing this about 2 weeks before the end of the month.
Anyway, a new car to replace a slowly failing 14 YO minivan.

Economic rights are part of the 5th amendment which says that the government can not take private property except for government use and then the victim must be justly compensated. Of course Kelo changed that for public use to public purpose and citizens no longer have economic rights because public purpose can be anything.

So much information now on what a car cost vs dealer costs. All you have to do is spend time researching. Even the salesman admitted that its not like it use to be. Not that they can't still find ways to add to the bottom line, but at least you have a pretty good fighting chance of getting a reasonable deal. Not unhappy with my newest car deal...maybe could have saved a few dollars more, liked the interest free loan. True care was okay, but just used it for a idea on what to offer. Didn't like all the pesky phone calls 10 minutes after using True Car, but that is the way it is.

-----------------------------------------------

Wrong question. The Constitution grants certain specified powers to the Federal government, and everything else (ALL) are reserved to the States and, most particularly, to the people.

FDR and Congress weren't given the power to set work hours. The States could do it, but not the Feds.

It was funny how quickly the phone and emails came in after I hit send on the Truecar site.
I ended up not buying from any of the 3 dealers from TC. I actually got a better deal from a dealer that doesn't use them. Advantage to living in the Chicago suburbs and buying a car is, there are similar dealers about every 10 miles. Easier to get them to play. This was the first time I tried this, and it worked very well. The biggest thing was, not having to sit in a crappy lit dealership trying to check out their math, while the wife is getting "embarrassed" because I'm ready to walk out of the dealership if the deal isn't good. She thinks the sales guy is actually there to be a friend to us.

In a contentious move, Naidm Koteich, a well-known Lebanese political analyst revealed his support for Israeli annexation of the currently embattled Syrian city of Aleppo, arguing that were this scenario to take place, the city would have been peaceful, like the Golan.

In a comment he wrote on his Twitter page, Koteich expressed dismay over the absence of an Israeli move to annex Aleppo.

"If Israel would have annexed Aleppo, it would have been safe today, like the Golan. Aleppo's citizens would have been better off living under occupation than living under ruins," Koteich wrote.

129 I did something different this time around getting a "new" car...

Took out a lease on a 2 year old Lexus LS460L. It had 21,000 miles on it when I picked it up.

The theory behind it is that the big hit is taken by the first customer, who pays the enormous drop in value between brand new and used. Then, there is a "sweet spot" between a 2 or 3 year old car and one 5 or 6 years old.

It only works because warranties are longer now.

Apparently, only the high end makes are doing this, with Mercedes, Lexus, Land Rover and a few more offering "Certified" cars. Then, the used car you lease has the same factory warranty as new for the duration of the lease (3 years).

Because the drop in value between the start and finish of a lease like this is proportionately so small, the cost is small.

The sticker (still in the glove box) on this car is $98,844. The lease payment is $332 per month.

I couldn't be happier with the deal.

All cars now will go 100,000 with a very low percentage of problems. A smart guy can buy cars coming off of lease, even mid range cars, and re-lease them at a great cost.

The wonderful thing about the internet is that you can exchange useful information in an anonymous form. You probably wouldn't tell anyone about certain health problems and treatments you found worked either, but on a blog, it may help someone else.

Since it's just words on a screen, no one knows if it's real anyways. I could be driving a '71 Pinto.

No woman desires a man with rabies. And refrain from spitting before the maidens, because that makes one sick and even revolts the stomach. If you spit or blow your nose or sneeze, remember to turn your head away after the spasm; and remember not to wipe your nose with your fingers; do it properly with a white handkerchief. Do not eat either leeks or onions because they leave an unpleasant odour in the mouth."

190 oh hey

I've been pawing through various religion oriented entries on Wikipedia recently and there's just a different tone to them now, like an editor came on who, on one hand, knows the subject well, but otoh can't stop editorializing.

it's a lot different from other kinds of entries. there's typically a pretence of neutrality in most of them. while these religion ones are neutral it seems that the editor is addicted to posing questions without providing straight answers, something better suited to a forum maybe than an online encyclopedia.

Because it changes frequently, it's harder for me to give links for specific entries. I looked through my history just now and in the sample I looked at they have changes already - these were things like theological schools of thought BTW.

196 Retired Senator Tom Coburn, who is leading an effort to call an Article 5 Convention of the States, spoke to the Senate Homeland Security committee recently and let them have it with both barrels:

"America doesn't trust you anymore. That's the truth. . . and that's not one party, that's both" raged former Senator Tom Coburn during a hearing before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs this week. As Free Beacon reports, Coburn, making his first appearance before the Senate since his farewell speech when he retired in late 2014, pleaded with Congress to take action to reform government, quoting de Tocqueville, that an ever more centralized control reduces its citizenry "to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd."

That's a really good point. I'm not Catholic, but I assume that St. Patrick's Day was originally to honor a saint. Only when the Americans got ahold of it did it become an excuse to wear green and drink heavily.

Likewise, Cinco de Mayo was not a big deal in Mexico until Americans discovered it. Without looking, might the area where it is celebrated be a place where American tourists congregate?
