NFL Draft Thread [Y-not]

Today is the third day of the NFL Draft, picking up where they left off yesterday with Round Four. Coverage is available at ESPN (awful) and the NFL Network (slightly less awful) or online (try this link). The proceedings start at noon.

A few highlights (and lowlights) to date:

Undoubtedly Jaremy Tunsil was the lowlight of the draft thus far, preceded by the bong gas mask YouTube incident, but also (to me much worse) his admission that he took money from Ole Miss coaches. Not a great night for Ole Miss, who were already under investigation.

Two other Ole Miss players were also drafted in the first round: defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche (another reefer head) and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, who provided us with one of the nicer moments of the draft:

TreadwellDaughter.jpg

Roger Goodell handled the pick announcements for the first round, which allowed us to savor the chorus of boos rained down upon him by the Chicago crowd.

On Day Two, Goodell was joined by former players and a few others (such as kids from St. Judes and Make-A-Wish programs). One of the nicer ones was brought to us by hall of fame wideout defensive back (thanks, tu!), Willie Brown:

Call your mothers!

If you're a fan of the Buckeyes, you'll be happy to hear that they set a record for the most picks in the first three rounds.

If you're a fan of the SEC, you can be proud that they led the first round in draft picks.

How have the NFL teams fared thus far? Here's a round up via SB Nation. And, via CBS, here are grades for the 98 players drafted thus far.

To close things up, the best part of the NFL Draft is it's an excuse to post pictures of cheerleaders:

And for the moronettes, did you know Jevon Kearse is hawt? I discovered this fact when he was announcing the Titans' draft pick yesterday, which prompted me to do some "research" on your behalf:

jevon-kearse1.jpg

I'm a giver.

How do you like YOUR team's draft picks thus far?

No? And ESPN carries this little privilege party?

9 >>5 Cowboys? So far, I'm good with em.

Despite all the problems, it occurred to me yesterday when I saw footage of their draft pick arriving at Texas Stadium (or whatever it's called) escorted by a Cowboys cheerleader that it must be one of the more exciting teams to be drafted to.

10 So, who sabotaged that guy's pick with the bong pix on twitter? The guy couldnt have been that stupid to post it himself, could he? I'm not buying the hacking bs, though.

13 10 So, who sabotaged that guy's pick with the bong pix on twitter?
---

He's in a lawsuit with his stepdad stemming, iirc, from a physical confrontation earlier this year. But the stepdad denies it.

Ain't no way in hell it's 5 yrs old, as his agent claimed.

But his voluntary admission that the pay-for-play stuff was true is in some ways more troubling. Kid seems dumb as a brick.

I kind of like Ole Miss so I feel badly for them... but it sure is looking like they've been cheating.

Posted by: Y-not (@moxiemom) at April 30, 2016 11:53 AM (t5zYU)

14 No worries for Jaremy Tinfoil.....if he don't make it in the NFL the degree or degrees he earned while attending classes at Ole Miss should leave him in good standing as he goes through life.

Well....maybe not.

And the Jets continue to be jokes. Four QBs drafted in four years and the latest is a project. And Fitz isn't signed yet, iirc.

Here's my annual reminder: To those of you who say maryjane is harmless, and not addictive, you have these idiot football players, about to be DRAFTED, thus earning millions and millions of dollars, and they can't stop smoking the weed.

If you can't stop, with millions of dollars on the line, you have a problem.

Now, compare that to your little idiot nephew of yours who flunked his UDS, and thus will NOT be hired by Taco Bell.

Yes, harmless.

30 Boston College sent a defensive back to Denver in the third round. BC isn't exactly a football powerhouse, but they regularly develop NFL players. Usually giant linemen, but occasionally skill players, too. Still waiting for a Wake Forest guy to get drafted. Best part of yesterday was Kevin Faulk wearing Brady's jersey to stick it to Shitbag Goodell and all his little toadies.

It's interesting to see which draftees attend vs staying home (one yesterday waited with his family at a bowling alley) and looking at the groups the draftees have with them (family vs posse).

Oh, the Day 1 outfits were pretty funny, btw. I meant to post some pictures, but forgot.

I think that's the part I find most interesting. How do these guys react? Generally it's going to be the culmination of years and years of hard work, and that's wonderful to see.

Some of them fascinate me though. The guy who has some young female there with him, he hugs her, and it looks weak. Is that his sister? His girlfriend? Is she going to still be his girlfriend when he's surrounded by free and easy skanks in the NFL?

Then there was the new Denver QB. He was crying when he was drafted, and some dude behind him was hugging and kissing him!

Brother or boyfriend?? Anyone know?

50 I enjoy watching football as much as the next guy (but I enjoyed it less last season, being a Giants fan), but I just can't take the gaudy spectacle of the NFL draft--which has become part Oscar ceremony/fashion show, and I especially can't stand all the handicappers, "analysts" and bullshit artists and their "picks" and "predictions"--all of which will be forgotten before the summer workouts as half the picks will end up being busts -or close to it. And a good many of the picks are thugs who don't deserve the adulation they're getting before playing a single down.
It's a bit unseemly. And over the top with the endless carnival barking.

I just watched it again. It's pretty subtle. You could easily say this is just a guy who is very close to him (most likely a brother), and it's an emotional moment.

But there are two are three times when he moves in, patting him on the shoulders, places his mouth on his neck/shoulders and MIGHT be kissing him. It's difficult to tell for sure.

At one point somebody's hand is seen waving somebody/something away. Camera shy? Trying not to reveal too much???

I really don't know. And the idiots at ESPN wouldn't know either, unless somebody is talking, and if the dude is not yet talking, then it will be revealed only when they decide to.

We're still in that mode, for the most part. Gay is NORMAL! And don't let's talk about ALL the gay guys in our culture, both athletes and actors. Because YOU people are so homophobic, you'll ruin their careers if you know. So we're not gonna tell you.

Well, as I said, Higbee has had one incident, which was last month.

The details are that he and his girl were at a local bar and a guy he knew, who has had legal troubles of his own (iirc, he had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear), was bothering the girlfriend. Tyler and girlfriend left that bar and went to get some food at a food cart outside another local bar. The dude followed and continued to pester the girlfriend including, per some reports, touching her.

Tyler socked him one time. Unfortunately, the dude he socked had a glass jaw and hit his head when he fell.

Initial reports made it out to be racial -- the dude Higbee hit is Arabic of some sort (and Muslim) -- but I've heard mixed reports on that.

No doubt that Higbee is going to pay in a civil suit, but the criminal suit is far from settled. The attempts to make it out to be a hate crime seem to be unfounded.

The real thing that had been affecting Higbee's draft was a season-ending injury last year. But on the field, he's been a very highly-regarded tight end.

90 Javon Kearse. Some people, not me, but I hear that some people call him "The Freak". Something about him having really, really big hands. I don't see what's so special. I don't think they're all that fantastic. I mean, especially compared to mine, which I must say, are slightly smaller than freakishly big themselves. Yuuuge.

91 Sorry, Y-Not, I should have been more clear. I was referring to Manziel. Rumor had it a while back that Jones was considering signing him as a backup.

92 And the Jets continue to be jokes. Four QBs drafted in four years and the latest is a project. And Fitz isn't signed yet, iirc.

You can tell that the draft is being held in Chicago this year because you don't hear Jets and Eagles fans booing every one of their draft pics

94 Giants got plum outfoxed this year. No way they wanted a CB in the first round. But other people wanted Conklin and Floyd more.

Sigh.

And most NFL players have legitimate mental illnesses from growing up neglected and fatherless. That's why they want to hit people and please a coach.

It's better for them (and anyone who has to cross their paths) that they're stoned out of their mind on cannabis rather than on Xanax. This is one case where the streets are ahead of the shrinks, IMHO.

97 45 Mary Clogginstien from Brattleboro, VT

I support that. Oh, yes.

Put him in as a defensive tackle.

And every running play should be over his lame attempts to block.

Sorry Duke Lowell. I just had to agree with Mary, for the first time.

Apple not great, should have taken Tunsil. But Sterling Shepard is going to be a stud.

99 OLE MISS is okay with the $305 payment to Tunsil. They have this type of fund at all D1 NCAA football programs. It was for his mom's electric bill.

It's fully accounted for, and transparent. BTW, OLE MISS is being investigated for violations prior to the current coach being there.

Nice that they beat Bama the last two years.

100 Big topic on sports talk in Philadelphia is should Carson Wentz play sooner or wait till next year. I don't want to see him until 12 games are played and the Birds have no shot.

Anyone need a Quarterback? The Eagles seem to have a extra one.

Wentz is a stud. There won't be any stupid social media videos either. Apparently his older brother and wife will move to Philly to be support help in the move.

Wentz' girlfriend is a keeper, too.

103 Vernon Hargreaves is supposedly a better cornerback prospect picked next, but he's from Tampa and Apple's a Jersey guy. If he pans out, he might be willing to stay relatively cheaply when he hits free agency, to stay close to his family.

Pro athletes are some of the few rich guys who just draw a paycheck, and playing half their games in a no-income tax state makes a big difference. A Florida team could match the Giants' offer, and VHIII would take home more money by going home to his family. (Sigh.)

Not that Jersey should be insulated from the stupidity of its voters or anything.
