2 C'mon, man...the guy in Nashville has had the zombie statue in his yard for FIVE YEARS. They're just now noticing it? It must not be that big of a deal...except, you know, homeowner's association.

4 I have a question

Several times a year armed masked men bust into a Dollar Stores here and rob the clerk.

A Dollar Store. I mean. What kind of money are we talking here! Not much. Is it because there is no security? Is it former employees? Do they usually have a lot of cash on hand? Is it the neighborhoods they are in?

Why Dollar Stores?

He has a good case for keeping the statue, due to slow enforcement.

8 The guy in Oregon must have wanted to get laid real, real, real bad. Empty the cash drawer, the deposit bag, the donation jar on the counter, give her a laptop computer, and then tip her with an exotic pet. A bushbaby. How appropriate.

14 I guess so. Same reason they rob 7-11s. Although here they wait until gas stations close, take a stolen pick up truck and hit the building, and then try to take the ATM inside

This also almost never works. The truck is too damaged to get away. The ATM is too heavy, or they can't get the ATM in the back of the truck

32 Carried over from the early thread, 'cause I'm a giver.

From this week in 1944- on the beachhead at Anzio.

The EZ Dog Journal

Apr 29, 1944 -
It's getting awfully close to the end of April and still no invasion. V-- writes they are setting themselves up in their very best parade ground style - -Saturday inspections and all - down below. So maybe we are just waiting until the real-big picture breaks.

Apr 30, 1944 -
No invasion. Now will sweat it out through May.
Not much doing today. A few shells fell in town. The front was generally quiet. SSF tried a raid to the east but were not very successful.

V-- was a good friend of EZ Dog's who was stationed with the 5th Army in Naples at this time.

the real-big picture => The much anticipated Normandy invasion, expected at any time now.

SSF => 1st Special Services Force "The Devil's Brigade" spent this part of the war in the eastern flank of the beachhead.

Posted by: Anna Puma

My late uncle and a bunch of his friends owned a private airfield south of Dayton (well, they were all partners in it). Where they all kept their planes and flew out of.

Every June, they would have their own airshow. It was really pretty cool. They had some people fly in classic warbirds (I missed out on getting a ride in a B-25 one year).
After the show, most of the guys that had planes would roll them out and give people rides. My uncle had two planes there, his business Bellanca Viking and his red Waco biplane. Needless to say, people loved going up in the Waco when he flew it.

Four words: Open All Night Pharmacies

My dentist got broken into once.

But, he was, well not exactly laughing about it- but he thought it immensely stupid becuz:

Zero drugs - Open All Night Pharmacies so no reason to keep drugs anymore

Zero cash - becuz almost everyone of his patients used credit cards. He said cash was a rarity.

And he'd made the nitrous very hard to access and remove without the right keys - no explanation on that one.

And finally, what're they going to do? Pawn dental equipment?

Aaaaaanywho, that was several years ago and he hasn't been robbed since then.

The spots around Red Chute Bayou had problems. But I know a bunch of people from church who live over there and they didn't even evacuate. Dogwood was partially evacuated.

I know there was flooding back in the 90s that was a problem on both sides of Airline, but I'm not sure exactly which neighborhoods. Brownlee had problems, IIRC.

When the Red flooded (the worst of the three 100 year floods in the last year...so far) the only problems up here were Cash Point RV park and the idiots who built big ol' houses on the wrong side of the levee. River Bluff is the street and/or development name.

213 In Austin they always ask for ID when voting.

This Austin vs Uber/Lyft vote is getting heated up. In my neighborhood group there are 2 leftist making ridiculous points about how the law was already in place, how it's not about power/money, and, of course, how it's for our safety/for the children!!! I tried to stay quiet and not get involved.....but I couldn't. The stupid "logic/reason" they were coming up with was too. The analogies they keep using are what are so infuriating because they are horrible and plain stupid. This is a city council that just passed an ordinance banning employers from using criminal background checks as a condition of employment but want Uber/Lyft drivers to start fingerprinting for their background checks. WTF????

219 Staggerwing has a yuuuge honking radial engine up front, and a tiny little thing like an oversize Safeway shopping cart wheel back under the tail to steer it with.

220 It's the trains fault...but mostly the white mans fault. If he wouldn't have stolen the land, there wouldn't be any leg cuttin' trains.

225 From the article on the dentist:

"Like many parts of rural France, Chateau-Chinon is badly served for medical provision..."

I guess socialized medical care isn't for everyone - and it is up to the government to decide who it is not for.
