3 "Congressman David Jolly (R-FL) is running in the GOP primary to replace Marco Rubio in the US Senate. In an appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe, he outlined his campaign finance reform ideas. Jolly says he'd ideally like to ban all political advertising on television. "

I've advocated this for years.

Sure. They are part of the problem. But remember; there are multitudes of voters out there who applaud government wasting money in this way because it makes them feel better about themselves.

And this asshole is a republican?

"I want to ban speech. Except for this one where I appear on TV and tell you to vote for me."

So the so-called political shows wind up being even more sound bite oriented, and these whores will be fighting to get on them.

It's not the act of speech, it's the mode and medium. Television advertising is bad for politics. By it's nature, it reduces political arguments to soundbites. Reading political positions is so much better than hearing a commercial. Your intellectual filters are not down.

Pro-Cruz Plotters Against Phyllis Schlafly Drag Eagle Forum Founder into Court

As Breitbart News has previously reported, the internal strife within Eagle Forum is connected to Schlafly's decision to endorse GOP frontrunner Donald Trump over Texas Senator Ted Cruz. When explaining her support for Trump, Schlafly cited Trump's strong positions on promoting pro-America trade policies, curbing immigration, and defending national sovereignty -- issues which are very important to Schlafly.

The problem, or perhaps challenge is they drive a lot of popular opinion. It's what we complain about all the time with the MSM. There are simply a lot of LIV's that form their opinions based on some of what they read.

Ultimately, if you like the candidate, or want to win at all costs, it's not a bad thing. It's actually a big part of the Democrat strategy.

We spend a lot of time complaining about these things. But what we need to do is co-opt them.

The current Obama lie is that wind energy is 4.7%. That assumes that every windmill they have put up is operating at 100% all the time. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most of them operate only a small amount each day if they operate at all.

One of my in-laws who came in over the weekend said they had built a windmill farm in MD near his house that he passes every day. He said he had NEVER seen the blades spinning at all.
The corrupt Obamanites also say coal is 33%. When I was working it was close to 50% so they have already regulated coal down a bunch. If we were not in the middle of great depression II we would already have rolling blackouts in the NE and west coast.

89 Serious question: One of the largest arguments against Trump has been that he polls poorly against Hillary. Now, if Trump continues to improve in his poling against Hillary and starts to pull ahead against the Dems - then how many Cruzers here will move onto team Trump?

If so, will you actively support b/c you think it will influence him? Or just passively vote? Or instead vote for Gary Johnson, despite his open borders policy?

Curious how it impacts things. Personally, I am a Trumper, but if Cruz is the nominee I will vote for him. Not that either him or Trump is going to carry Maryland.

My assessment? I think people are just so sick of Washington they don't care. They really believe Trump will shake things up.

I frankly believe a lot of what Trump did in the past was driven by his business needs and the fact he needed favors. That could give him a distinct advantage regarding the things that need to change. Trump is ego driven and he will want to be popular. That obviously can be good and bad. But I believe if elected he will listen to the majority of people who elected him because of it. He's also a bit of an enigma and seems brash. But I really thing he will be more thoughtful with policy once the job is in front of him.

Look, the people twice elected a junior senator from Illinois who really had nothing on his resume but "hope". I still don't get that. So in the end Trump doesn't scare me that much.

Plus the general electorate trend towards a visceral dislike of Washington hurts Clinton and can buttress Trump. At a minimum I think we can all grab popcorn once that competition starts. IMVHO

Maybe, but things sure don't seem to be trending that way. We are getting record turnout from a broad set of demographics we have not seen in some time.

I went back and looked at polling trends form the primary and general for the last two elections. Ultimately the "general" polling that's done now is not really that indicative. It's only once the one on one competition starts that things become more clear.

Last night in his speech, he pounded Hillary on Benghazi, saying that she slept through her 3 a.m.phone call, on her playing the woman card for sympathy, and her criminal past saying that she has committed a criminal act and should be in jail.

He also restated his plans to build the wall, and his intention not to pay off student debt and instead to increase jobs to help students pay off their own loans.

If this were Barney Frank, I wonder how much different the response from the authorities would be. Apparently his hush money payments were not extorted out of him because the extortionist would have agreed to, and offered, a legal settlement. But of course the whole point of the payments was to avoid any sort of paper trail or public record of the abuse. The extortionist was making an offer to Hastert that he couldn't accept, for obvious reasons. I wonder if the real problem is that Hastert is senile. He really should have simply fought the charges and never made the payments in the first place.

155 Serious question: One of the largest arguments against Trump has been that he polls poorly against Hillary. Now, if Trump continues to improve in his poling against Hillary and starts to pull ahead against the Dems - then how many Cruzers here will move onto team Trump?

It was one poll and it is ofset by another poll that was the typical suck for him. I personally would be more open to rolling the dice with Trump (even though his style turns me off more than Obama) if 95% of the indicators weren't that he is going to be a huge loser in November.

If we are destined to lose (which we are) I'd rather lose with Cruz because that won't tarnish Trump's message. When Trump loses in November we will be on the fast track to amnesty. No one in Washington will lift a finger to stop it and the GOPe won't even pay lip service to the base on it.

My old company put up a wind turbine in western NC in the mountains that had steady prevailing winds. We tore it down after a year. It was a total loss. It did not produce much electricity and everyone living within 5 miles of it complained about the noise it made. It also ate birds just like all the rest of them.

______

Fair enough and I think that if we lose with Cruz or Trump we will get amnestied into oblivion - not to even mention the supreme court disaster.

It sounds like you, same as me, will be voting for whomever is the nominee and hoping for the best; isn't that true?

How many of the #NeverTrump people would be willing to come back if, and hopefully when, it looks like Trump could beat Hillary - not just beat but humiliate her. I think people like the tribal idea of voting. Ace has mentioned similar stuff before, not in a positive light, just that it is human nature.

And that tribal part of the brain loves voting for a winning team that you can identify with even if only because you are against the other team - so if thatch true, then as polls (hopefully) improve for the Republican in the general how many of the #NeverTrump & #OnlyTrump people will decide to come back aboard to stop Hillary.

As I said earlier - I will, whether its Trump or Cruz. Kasich can deliver this letter into his mail slot.

195 My assessment?

IMVHO

The regulators probably had money in natural gas. Also, according to a friend of mine who used to work for Con Ed at Indian Point, NYC has a lot of small gas fired IC turbines underground (off the subways I presume) that feed the grid in NYC. The RCP average of polls on April 27, 2008 had Obama beating McCain by 2%. He won by 7.2%.

Most RCP polls around this time in 2004 had Bush beating Kerry by a couple points. He won by 2.4%.

219 Information on Chernobyl that you can use to educate your friends:

1) The reactor is a design used nowhere outside of the Russian sphere of influence. The control rods used to shut down the reactor are driven upwards by electric motors. Lose electricity, lose the ability to shut down the reactor. Most reactor designs the rods are pulled upwards by electricity and if you lose power, gravity and springs force them down into the reactor.

2) There were numerous warnings but since the operators couldn't track down the cause of the lights, they disabled the warning systems.

3) The explosion was not a nuclear explosion, but rather a steam explosion, since the nuclear material in reactors can't actually explode.

There are other points regarding the actual release of radioactivity, but keep in mind that this would not have happened had basic safety procedures actually been followed, and could not have happened in any western world reactors.

If Fukishima is then brought up, remind them that (again) faulty design (the backup generators were sitting out in the open where they were also flooded) contributed heavily even though experts in the field made the point numerous times over the years that the generators needed to be in enclosed, watertight housings.

Just some thoughts.

When Cruz loses he will lose on a different focus. Hard borders won't also be tarnished as a political position. We will be hoping for Ryan to mitigate the damage Shumer is doing in the Senate. The less the message itself has been tarnished the more the base can try to influence backbone in Ryan.

Sadly that is where we are now. Gaming out the aftermath of an electoral disaster.

One of their biggest design flaws was the carbon reflectors around the core. This allowed them to run with a lower enrichment core (cheaper) as it reflected neutrons back into the core for fission. But a huge drawback was that at lower poser levels it provided for a positive moderator coefficient. That means that as the core and water heats up it actually increases power more. IOW it provided positive feedback. You NEVER run a machine with positive feedback, It also made a nice handy material to burn once the head was blown off due to the steam explosion. That is what caused most of the fission product release. Which was caused by another design flaw to make it cheaper. No containment vessel.

Take a look at the totals from 2008 Democrat Primary to now. It shows a different story. Democrats typically drive more voters to the polls in their primary.

Take NY for example. Hillary got almost the same exact total she did in 2008. Sanders got almost the same number Obama did. The overall total was slightly down.

Trump on the other hand significantly increased Republican turnout across just about every state.

totally OT and random.

I had a horrible night with my family last night. Cousin had a screaming fit because she thinks I gave her Himalayan cats and her teacup Yorkies fleas because I feed a couple of feral cats three times a week. She was rampaging.

This morning I got out of the house early, bought an insanely overpriced coffee drink at the drive-thru window, and when I got to the window, the barista told me the woman in front of me had paid for my coffee and asked the barista to give me "this" -- this being a card saying "Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty."

I'm at work and very headachey due to loss of sleep and general tension and trying to appreciate this.

317 NeverTrump, an unprecedented effort by an Inner Party to take down its Party's own front runner, has failed. Ringleader Romney has once again proven that he's a failure at politics. Rubio has been tainted, and may no longer hold a political office. Cruz will be tainted too if he doesn't face the current reality, as he's killing his own brand.

Some of us here expected that Trump would be the presumptive nominee by around now, because we were objective.

We also expect Trump to have a great shot at beating Hillary, and far better than Cruz. YMMV, but we've been right so far.

Huh? Take 2012 and Romney as an example. The RCP spread at one point in April was about +5 Obama. By October it was virtually dead even- and we all know how that turned out.

Conclusively, I believe polls are unreliable indicatives.
Posted by: Marcus T at April 27, 2016 09:04 AM (O0lVq)

Again, ballpark figure.

The fact they'll move by a few points means they have limitations. It doesn't mean you toss them away. If a guy is polling with a gap in the high single digits or the low double digits, that guy has long odds.

We go through this every election--this idea that the polls are unreliable, biased, etc.

Do exceptions happen? Sure. But bet on the other guy.

*snort*

When I was in high school, that phrase was hugely popular on these totally ghey purple bumper stickers. But if you made a couple of strategic vertical cuts in the sticker, it'd change the phrase to "Practice random senseless acts". Had a lot of fun with that.

393 the reason that those characters were nominees is because : they were "next in line", absolutely no threat to the establishment and....absolutely no threat tot the establishment.

That was a big reason. It doesn't change the fact that if there were 40% of Republicans saying they would never vote for them back then, they still would have been fighting for the nomination. Trump is still fighting for the nomination because he's a much more divisive candidate than they were at the time.

And I'm not saying they weren't squishes. At least a couple were. But they had an easier path because they were less divisive at the time.

That's a big problem for Trump right now. It'll continue to be. The polls reflect that.

Bite your tongue. The majority did not vote for Bush's compassionate conservatism, they voted in spite of it
Most voters voted against the John-John freakshow, Gore's overt country-club socialism, and tried to push back on any further attack on individual freedoms, which Bush was at least a weak supporter of.

Also, being an honorable man helped a lot, as well as the unending attacks by the MSM and various Socialist activists and the various flavors of totalitarian groupies.

Trump

I don't understand his appeal to the GOP base at all, but it is pretty hard to argue it isn't there.

509 Trump is NOT improving the polls at all either with fundamentals or head-to-head w/ Clinton. I'm not sure who keeps suggesting this is so. The RCP average has not moved in the last month on either score. Both as post-apocalyptically bad right now and indicate not only a loss, but a major down ballot disaster.

All the wishful thinking above about "fighting" and revealing skeltons of Clinton is just that- wishful thinking. Nor does it indicate how he could possibly improve his horrific standing among women with negative campaigning (hint: primary results don't disprove polls, the populations are radically different). The political reality is he has a less than 5% probability of beating her in a GE.

Posted by: iforgot at April 27, 2016 10:24 AM (pC96u)

Airship Hillary is already aflame, she's just so arrogant she thinks she can put it out.

What goes up must come down.

eat asparagus, piss in it, and send it back.

Send it back, yes, but from the house of your least favorite neighbor.

541 I used to think Adams was an insufferable twat, but he makes some good points here. Perhaps I've been reading him wrong.

No he definitely is. He posted a picture of his abs the other day.

He's also been right about this election. He looks at the world upside down and diagonally. Just like zerohedge, it's good to keep an eye on what he's saying and use it to calibrate your views.

Zerohedge has been predicting that the end of the world was just around the corner for about a decade. When do we get to the corner?

Precisely why I said "use it to calibrate your views." I stand by what ace or a cob said a while back about zh: divide by three and subtract one.

Still good reading.

545 I used to think Adams was an insufferable twat, but he makes some good points here. Perhaps I've been reading him wrong.

I've seen his #5 in action. He knows he has a public persona that built his profile and he plays it. But you don't last this long in business by not knowing when to turn that off.

That's what gives me pause about Operation Torch the GOP at times...Trump may be a candidate that has fully adapted to the fallen state of the American electorate, even moreso than Obama, who can afford to be lazy thanks to media overwatch. And I have no idea where that may lead us.

As long as the MSM exists, there will be toilet paper. Have you never traveled thru eastern europe/GDR? ProTip: Always opt for the news print and not the magazine paper (too slippery).

547 It's the elections that matter and not the polls. There is no one else with a better chance to win the general: that's what a primary IS.

Posted by: Ghost of kari - certified sidebar at April 27, 2016 10:25 AM (xuouz)

Actually thats categorically untrue. Parties regularly engage in primary processes that produce candidates highly favored by a deep but narrow group of party supporters and yet are deeply disdained by the general public. And it is often in the act of bypassing potential alternatives that are less favored by population 1 (the small number of people that vote in a primary) but more favored by population 2 (the large number that vote in a general). The democrats learned this several times with the moonbats (McGovern) they nominated.

Again, this is taught in Pol Sci 101. Not sure why Trumpkins keep just repeating primary results, as if they indicate anything as far as a general. They don't. And neither does the turnout, which also has no correlation with GE success. However, head-to-head polls and fundamentals data has been historically accurate over the last several cycles.

548 >>Precisely why I said "use it to calibrate your views." I stand by what ace or a cob said a while back about zh: divide by three and subtract one.

What does that even mean? They have been predicting that things were going to fall apart for years. They haven't. They have been wrong. How is that supposed to calibrate my views?

Are things screwed up in the world financial markets? Of course. I don't need zerohedge to know that. But when you are constantly predicting doom and it never happens you are just wrong. I prefer to take advice from people who are right.

Yeah, well it's not their predictions that are the problem. If that were the case then AOSHQ would be in the same category. Which it decidedly is not.

Nope. Nobody here is making predictions, just giving opinions. Significantly different thing.

551 Hotdog the head to head disadvantage against Hillary is structural: it exists for Cruz as well. Between now and November the Republican candidate will have to run against her and turn the tide. Voters have decided Trump is the one they want doing this. That's all I'm saying. If the head to head numbers are gospel then you're a Kasich supporter: he's the only one who beats Hillary head to head. Conclusion: there's more to the general than that one RCP poll. Sorry.

JackStraw the problem with ZH is in connecting the dots. Based on the fundamentals the world economy SHOULD have collapsed as predicted. The tinfoil hats come out in attempting to explain why. I suspect it is a combination of The Powers That Be of global finance having access to computing power and algorithms that are FAR more advanced than we could predict, and being willing to sink to levels of international collusion and market manipulation (of which extensive QE and NIRP are just two examples) than anyone suspected. YMMV. I learned a long time ago to dispense with the conclusion paragraphs of ZH posts. It's still a fascinating and informative site that I use as one data point in forming my opinion on the economy.

552 I don't think so. Amnesty was stopped in 2007 by a lot of pissed off
call to Washington. When Trump loses the message will be taken away by
the GOPe will be "See that racist message is a loser! Ignore all those
racist phone calls!"

Let's look at the guy who just blew 16 of our best POTUS candidates out of the water and do exactly what his voters don't want because it's verification of our stupidity!

555 Cruz isn't going to go negative. Comes to Indiana to talk about basketball....

He should fire his campaign people. Tarnishing his brand by partnering with the blowhole mailman's son. He needs to talk about how he will win- by destroying Clinton in issue-focused debates. Channeling his inner McCain is not going to get it done!

On energy:

Plant a tree. It's aesthetic, cheap, improves air and water quality, and yummy critters appreciate the gesture. Common sense, which is of course why the uni-party would never suggest doing it- they're to busy arguing how to distribute my 7 year old son's great grandchildren's money to their favored energy cronies.

557 No one will read this but I'll say it anyway

The problem with the Scott Adams analysis is that it assumes that Hillary's negatives can be driven lower. They can't. Trump is going to be trying to push her down when she is already lying flat on her back on a concrete floor.

Trump's problem isn't emphasizing her negatives, it is his own negatives.

At least it will be entertaining in the run up before he loses.
