In Wake of Panama Papers Scandal, It's Revealed that John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Have Millions "Invested" in Overseas Tax Shelters, Because of Course They Do

Socialism is for little people.

Secretary of State John Kerry and his wife Teresa Heinz have invested millions of U.S. dollars through family trusts in at least 11 offshore tax havens, according to an analysis by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

...

Since the release of the papers, no American politician has been identified as using the secretive offshore accounts.

We could cut down on the confusion if we'd just call it what it is: totalitarianism. Whether it's "Socialism," "Communism," "Fascism," or whatever they want to call it, the underlying theme is that the Government not only can, but should, tell you exactly how to live your life- how your children should be reared, what food you should eat and how much, how you should prepare for various risks. All of these are things which should absolutely be beyond the purview of the government.

That is generally true. The very rich and the very poor are democrats, and the middle class is republican. Which is why the democrats always talk about helping the middle class, while trying to screw them. It is also why the democrats design policies to try and eliminate the middle class.

316 297 "This country was much better off when we just took it for granted politicians were and would be scumbags. "

Call me a dreamer, but I think we should shoot for a higher standard.

I believe there are people out there who are not scumbags that truly care about the country and who would like to run for office. However, because of the status quo of the system, it's impossible for these non-scumbags to do so.

In the absence of good and decent people, you end up with scumbags who are looking at office as a way to wealth, and scumbags who have wealth and are just trying to satisfy their egos.

Touching back on the 60 Minutes story about fundraising, who but a scumbag would spend the majority of their time begging for money?

The system needs to change. This is not what the Founders had in mind, but we can't duplicate what they had in that era. A new formula needs to be developed that attracts the best people and keeps the scumbags at bay.

Actually, if you go back in American History, you'll find the slide to Big Government began really early, and never really abated. The difference is that we can look back at specific events and say "Wow, that was a huge jump toward Big Government!" and we lose sight of the littler things.

I don't know that there's an answer, really. A large portion of the human race seems to want to be ruled; they want Big Government to "protect" them, never realizing that such protection comes at the cost of Freedom. And there are those who are all to willing to offer that protection in exchange for power.

Let anyone who wants to run for office raise as much money as they want from whatever sources they want, just list it immediately on the internet.

At a specific date, no more is allowed to be raised and the Treasury matches that amount to the incumbent.

187 We could cut down on the confusion if we'd just call it what it is: totalitarianism.
Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) Buy My Book at April 26, 2016 11:59 AM (kff5f)

The telling part is that "totalitarian" was the adjective applied by leftists themselves ... as an honorific. Mussolini coined it, along with the phrase "from cradle to grave," to indicate that the state would look after every citizen throughout his life.

Only later, after that utopian image was supplanted by the dystopic reality did "totalitarian" become a term of deprecation. Kinda like "welfare" and "liberal" in that respect.

We need to give the elected officials (people we have the ability to change) an incentive other than patriotism to work long hours and take shit from every special interest group in the country.

I have outlined a compensation plan numerous times here that not only gives the elected officials a reasonable salary, but also gives them a large bonus if they complete their budgets on time and within a set guideline of spending.

People work best when it's in their own interest.

Private industry has known this for hundreds of years. It's time we adopt it for Washington.

Enough goodies and incentives. They will be bought and bribed within that new system within a year, and whatever organization grades them on their budget will give them a passing grade for a kickback.

Better yet, gambling sites would put wagers on which officials would balance their budgets on time, and based on where the money went they'd throw it one way or the other.

What needs to be done is the states need more power and the federal government needs less.

The mayor of our little corner of the People's Republic does the same dodge. He's pushing "redevelopment" of the barrio here. (Translation: kick out the Mexicans* who've lived there, near the beach, forever, and take the area upscale with chi-chi multi-story condos for his liberal comrades.)

It just so happens that he owns a lot of property affected by his proposed plan, and since becoming mayor, has acquired more - in his wife's name. Cute.

So if his nasty plan comes to fruition, and he and Mrs. stand to make a very pretty penny indeed. Can you say "self-dealing?" I can.

* Try this one on for size: part of his proposal is to give the Mexicans cash to "fix up" their places. Sounds nice, right? Except here in the People's Republic, any substantial renovation will trigger a property tax reassessment. Prop. 13 limits the rate at which the Reds can jack up property tax unless there's a sale or substantial renovation. So accepting the mayor's baksheesh could easily raise their taxes tenfold, since those houses have been in their families for generations, and probably force them to sell to get out from under the suddenly imposed massive burden. (They're mostly gardeners and such, and not exactly wealthy now.)

The plan I have in mind treats the House as a whole and the Senate as a separate whole.

It needs to be this way for anything major to get done. You need the peer pressure of 430 members not getting their bonus if 5 members don't come around.

As to the goals, the dates for completion of budgets are set in stone and the goal to be reached is only one percentage - probably about 19% or 20% of the previous year's GDP.

You need to go on the previous year's number because it eliminates all the estimating. They can lie about it once, but it comes back to haunt them the next year.

The only way hard choices are going to be made (instead of the current system of giving everyone everything), is by 535 senators and congressmen working in their own best interest.

363 What a nothing story. Heinz trust money is invested in funds that were organized offshore. Heinz TRUST money pays no taxes so there is no tax avoidance issue at work here. And 2nd, hedge funds organize offshore to attract non-US investors. If they created US based funds (which is then under the auspices of the IRS) a foreign investor who invested would also then be obligated to report ALL income etc. to the IRS. Since no foreign investor wants to be subject to the IRS the funds organize offshore to allow foreign participation. Most funds have an on-shore fund for US taxpayers and an off-shore fund for US non-taxpayers and foreigners. This is a bullshit story.

364 Mix styrofoam and gasoline until it gels. Roll into a "rope".
Stick it somewhere. Light it.

If you mix fiberglass resin in a styrofoam coffee cup, the cup will ignite and burn the top off your toolbox.
Don't ask me how I know.

365 The first time I met my father in law, he was just bringing back a new Hatteras yacht. It was bought through a Delaware corporation and was documented as a U.S. flag vessel, to avoid another set of taxes.

366 This is a bullshit story.

I don't understand your complaint. The Heinz-Kerrys are Americans. They plan to not pay their fair share, yet demand that we do. Just because foreigners rationally avoid telling the IRS about their income doesn't mean Americans get to, even though it's rational.

369 Let KerryHeinz pay 15.3% of their fucking gross income to the government, just like the rest of us who work for ourselves, starting with dollar 1.

And then add a forced tax of monthly healthcare premiums. For a shitty forced health care plan that has more holes than swiss cheese.

Fuck these trash rat bastards.

They need to be Benitoed.

On pay-per-view would be best.

It's a bullshit story because there is nothing remotely illegal or nefarious about this. They are investing Trust money which is non-taxable regardless of where it is invested, on-shore or off-shore. I love how the media starts using a word like "off shore" and the Pavlovian pants wetting by the ignorant and uninformed starts.
