Quote of the Day I

Over the course of three decades in public life Hillary Clinton has misspoken and misled the public and mismanaged herself and her team to such a degree that voters cannot help noticing. Yes, many of her falsehoods are white lies. But white lies accumulate. They matter. Not only do they harm the truth. They are turning Clinton into one of the least popular candidates in history.

Since 1998 Clinton has blamed her poor reputation on the vast right-wing conspiracy. Whitewater, Travelgate, Filegate, the health-care disaster - it was all the fault of the Republicans. What's forgotten is that Clinton has been lying in the service of her ambitions - most notably by protecting her husband from the truth of his infidelities - since long before Bill ran for president. Nor can she blame conservatives for her failure to win the Democratic nomination eight years ago. Hillary can't help being secretive and deceptive. It's her nature.

-- Matthew Continetti in White Lies Matter

Hillary Clinton has been secretive and dishonest the entirety of her adult life. And the existence of generic 'enemies' or the 'VRWC' has always been just an excuse/justification for her to indulge her secretive and dishonest nature.

Quote of the Day II

"Drones are the new UFOs."

-- from the article That drone that hit a British Airways plane might have been a plastic bag

Quote of the Day III

PAGLIA: Yes, I've been in a rut on lamb vindaloo.
COWEN: A rut, tell us.
PAGLIA: It's a horrible rut.
COWEN: It's not a horrible rut, it may be a rut.
PAGLIA: No, it's a horrible rut. It's a 40-year rut. Every time I go to an Indian restaurant, I say "Now, I'm going to try something new." But, no, I must go back to the lamb vindaloo. All I know is it's like an ecstasy for me, the lamb vindaloo.
COWEN: Like De Quincey, tell us, what are the effects of lamb vindaloo?
PAGLIA: What can I say? I attain nirvana.

-- Conversation between Tyler Cowen and Camile Paglia who once described Indian food as her substitute for LSD

Question: Who is the last living head of state to have worn their country's uniform in WWII?

Answer: This one

hermajtruckmechanic

She turned 90 years old last week making her the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

Queen to Obama: You May Only Bring 3 Helicopters During Your Visit

Apparently she's still upset over the damage he did to her gardens back in 2011.

The Queen called Obama's bevy of choppers "over the top", meaning the Secret Service had to rethink their plans to land about six aircraft in the 300-year-old gardens of her main residence.

..."She rarely imposes her will but when she does people listen - it just took the US Secret Service agents a little time to realise that," the source said.

The Queen, whose 90th birthday was celebrated recently, said there was no chance Obama's extensive security backup would be accompanying him to Windsor Castle.
Her insistence came after Obama's helicopters damaged the grass when half a dozen of them landed during his last visit in 2011.

The engines' heat scorched the grounds and the wheels left divots in one of the UK's oldest lawns, planted during the reign of Queen Anne in the early 1700s.

Mark Steyn reflected on her long reign last fall in The Survivor:

King Farouk's famous line was that in the end there would be only five monarchs left - the Kings of Hearts, Clubs, Spades and Diamonds, and the King of England. It's not quite down to that, but the House of Windsor's share of the market is certainly dominant. The Queen's various realms, from Canada to Tuvalu, Belize to Australia, outnumber all the remaining Continental monarchies put together. That level of survival would not have seemed such a sure thing upon Princess Elizabeth's birth in 1926, in the wake of the tumbling thrones of the Romanovs, Habsburgs and Osmans.

There have been moments in the last 63 years when one might have wished for a little more imagination from the Queen. But in an undeferential and unmonarchical age she has played a difficult hand very shrewdly. The picture at top right was taken by my beloved daughter during the Diamond Jubilee year. My little girl has met many celebrities, from Macaulay Culkin all the way to Lindsey Graham (at the local fair last month), but she thought the Queen was very "cool" in the way she didn't feel the need to work the room. What I liked that day was the way she didn't bother with the 40-car motorcade - just a vehicle in front of a couple of coppers, and one behind with another copper and a lady-in-waiting, all of whom would take a bullet for her, which I cannot reliably say of those Secret Service guys cavorting with their Cartagena hookers.

...Is the monarchy anything to do with the unrivaled record of the Britannic inheritance? Working for the Free French in London during the war, Simone Weil found herself pondering why, among the European powers, only England had maintained 'a centuries-old tradition of liberty'. She was struck by the paradox of the Westminster system - that ultimate power is vested in one who cannot wield it in any practical sense. Endowing the sovereignty of the nation in an absentee monarch - as Australia does - is an even more exquisite refinement of the Weil theory: vesting power in its literal rather than merely political absence.

What Malcolm Turnbull objects to most - she doesn't live here! - is what I find most appealing. A minimalist monarchy is perhaps the most benign form of government one could devise - except that no hyper-rationalist would ever 'devise' such a thing at all.

Title IX vs. the First Amendment

Advantage: Title IX

The Department of Justice now interprets Title IX to require colleges and universities to violate the First Amendment.

In an April 22 findings letter concluding its investigation into the University of New Mexico's policies and practices regarding sex discrimination, the Department of Justice (DOJ) found the university improperly defined sexual harassment. DOJ flatly declared that "[u]nwelcome conduct of a sexual nature"-including "verbal conduct"-is sexual harassment "regardless of whether it causes a hostile environment or is quid pro quo."

To comply with Title IX, DOJ states that a college or university "carries the responsibility to investigate" all speech of a sexual nature that someone subjectively finds unwelcome, even if that speech is protected by the First Amendment or an institution's promises of free speech.

The US Suicide Rate Surges To the Highest Level In Almost Three Decades

The suicide rate in the US has surged to its highest level in almost three decades, according to a new report.

The increase is particularly pronounced among middle-age white people who now account for a third of all US suicides.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report did not offer an explanation for the steep rise.

However, other experts have pointed to increased abuse of prescription opiates and the financial downturn that began in 2008 as likely factors.

The report did not break down the suicides by education level or income, but previous studies found rising suicide rates among white people without university degrees.

Modern-Built Viking Ship to Attempt Transatlantic Crossing

And time is of the essence. Following in the historical tailwind of Leif Eriksson, the Viking thought to have discovered America centuries before Christopher Columbus, the ship has a long journey ahead, taking a route via Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland before it finally drops anchor in the United States.

"We've got one month because the only gap, if you don't want to battle low pressure and harsh winds, is May. That's your chance to make it across," Ahlander told the Swedish news agency TT on Monday.

21 The attackers who stole $81 million from the Bangladesh central bank probably hacked into software from the SWIFT financial platform that is at the heart of the global financial system, said security researchers at British defense contractor BAE Systems.

SWIFT, a cooperative owned by 3,000 financial institutions, confirmed to Reuters that it was aware of malware targeting its client software. Its spokeswoman Natasha Deteran said SWIFT on Monday released a software update to thwart the malware, along with a special warning for financial institutions to scrutinize their security procedures.

The developments coming to light the unprecedented cyber-heist suggest that a lynchpin of the global financial system could be more vulnerable than previously understood because of weaknesses that enabled attackers to modify a SWIFT software program installed on bank servers.

80 I have that picture of Princess Elizabeth in the top of my toolbox. In the tray beneath it are a bunch of wrenches spanners stamped "BSW."

Since no one has ever said she lacks wit, and still seems to have all hers about her, it should be easy for her to goad Mr President and/or his "consort" into saying something truly pointless and futile, revealing hidden insecurities and old enmities. Judging by certain facial expressions in photos, one just imagines the Prince Consort would get a hell of a kick out of that. As would we all, old man.
As would we all.

Two different drugs for two totally different experiences. An acid trip is something that is impossible to explain to someone who hasn't been on one.

And I'm not sure about Paglia's comparison of Indian food to an acid trip ... except maybe the part that thinking about eating food after you've taken it makes you sick.

One of the brothers was my landlord briefly. He seemed old then and he already had a son about 10. But based on his age in this article, he had to be only in his mid to late 30s. Later, he was an attending at the hospital I worked at.

Why they let this piece of shit, Speck, live beats me. And all that crap about prisoners' code is just crap. They dont give a shit how many women or children their cellmate raped/killed. And dont forget Speck was allowed to go tranny. Maybe the hormones killed him. One can only hope...

If the stones were worth even a penny each the Egyptians would have had them totally gone centuries ago. They took apart and destroyed everything that was of value in or around the pyramids. They only left untouched the stuff they thought was worthless.

Along those lines, the muzzies want to take down the pyramids, just as they blew up the buddha statues and destroy every church and synagogue they can get their hands on. They don't want anything standing that isn't :islamic", which means nothing but piles of shit and rocks are to be left around.

Well, it would cost untold billions and there is no treasure to be had once disassembled. Re-building would also cost untold billions and destroy the historical value.

And, actually, if you watch The History Channel, there was a pyramid torn down by an Egyptian Pharoah. On the northern side of the plain. The foundation is still visible, but, no pyramid anymore.

266 I had a girlfriend who took shrooms with me and 3 other couples. A few hours later, she is screaming that we are going to kill her and rape her. The party now about 50, vanished into the South Boulder foothills off Table Mesa Drive. The neighbors called 911. About 40 cops, fire trucks, and several ambulances showed up. I had 3 shotguns in my face watching 8 cops wrestle and restrain my naked girl friend, who had the nicest tits I've ever seen.... D cup European. Anyway the cleared the house of over a dozen bongs, half a pound of choice kinds of Terry and a pound of home grown shrooms. I got called into CU administration, and told them the truth that it was in the punch with the booze and we had no idea it was in there. Oh and I did not get arrested either. Lord Help Boulder.

Oh and a few months later, my friend who was winter training in Boulder for AA baseball with the Pirates asked me for some Shrooms, and I warned him. A week later the same thing happened to his fiancee and he never played ball again. He told me they were in the hospital and a priest was brought in to read her last rites death prayer thing.

Good times....

There's only one aircraft in Obama's aerial motorcades that would "scorch the ground", and that's the V-22 Osprey, and it's absolutely no surprise that it would do so. It inheres in the design. So much so that it causes operational problems in some circumstances.

So: clearly known problem. Alternatives were available. Barky had the Ospreys flown anyway. Just another big middle finger extended to people he secretly hates.

By the way, the cost per flight hour of the Osprey is colossally high. It's one of the most expensive aircraft of any sort in the entire DoD inventory to operate. Last time I saw Barky flying around in Commiefornia, his gaggle of aircraft had at least four Ospreys in it (in addition to two presidential helos) and there may have been more Ospreys which were out of my line of sight at the time.

A shit: he doesn't give one. It's not money out of his own pocket.

The waiter asked for her ID and those of the others. She said, do I still look that young to you, hee hee? He had said oh no, it's just policy to card everyone so there are no complaints, treat everyone equally.

419 408: Don't fight it, resistance is futile you will be assimilated. Into the get-off-my-lawn club.

It started happening to me in my early 40s. My father used to say that a man had to be 40 before he had good sense. When I turned the big 4-0, I asked him, well do I finally have good sense? He said, naw, sorry but he's upped it to 60.

Soon after I realized I was becoming my father. I fought it for a while, only a short while, and now I revel in it. It's the Way of Things.

Back in my 20s, quite a few of my buddies said I already acted like 50 year old man, and when I did get there, I was going to be the orneriest, crankiest, old-manny old man there ever was.

And by George, they were right.

Don't fight it, let it wash over you and learn it, live it, love it.

It doesn't take too much to just say, "I'm not sure" or anything else along those lines. Waiters suck up to their tables all the time - the ones that want to get good tips do, at least.

And if he figured out that he didn't get a tip because of the retarded way he answered that question then she made him more money in the future.

I do think that no tip is fine for that case. He pissed off one of his customers. Not only did he make her pull out her id but then he told her that he knew she was old when she was fishing around for a very minor compliment.

473 Sorry for stirring up such a shit storm with that little story.

With me and all of my cohort and above, Rule #1, the Prime Directive almost, is never tell a lady she looks old. Never, ever, ever do that, directly or indirectly, no matter how many levels of indirection are required to get to, "therefore, I'm saying you look old."

Older women just love to this "but you look so young, I can't believe it" horseshit. 99.9% of them know it's horseshit but they still eat it up, and many will actively fish for it.

When you flatter and even play firt with the older women like that, you will be greatly rewarded.

For instance, when my mother was rehabing from the knee surgery in that god-awful nursing home (and supposed to have the highest rating there is state-wide), I played that game with an elderly woman.

She said something, not really fishing even, just close to it, and I joked with her about how was I gonna pick her up and take her out on the town and all that crap.

It tickled her so much, well, it's well, touching in a way.

Without knowing the geometry of the machine that needs the clutch, not sure if that would work, or not.

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

It should be emphasized that Leif, or someone like him, actually settled Newfoundland, and the remains can be seen today at L'Anse aux Meadows. Leif's father, Eric Thorvaldson, was a substantial farmer in west Greenland at about that time.

It's something of an old problem. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that city dwellers can't imagine just how fragile the places they live actually are, given the appearance of permanence and might, and take civilization for granted. If you are purchasing alcohol, cigarettes, or other things that necessitate a minimum age, you must have legal identification in your pocession.

It's not a matter of what age that person appears to be. Also not a matter of an individuals ability to judge a person's age.

You can be 100 years old, but if you do not have identification to prove you are at least the minimum age, you can not legally purchase the item.

In fact, it has become a haven for wildlife. The accident was caused when a government ordered special test went out of control. Operators warned the man ordering the test that this was not something that was supposed to be done.

That's it for today folks. I have a doctor's appointment this morning so I will be bailing out early. Also doing blood work so no coffee or breakfast this morning. You would think that they could do these tests without the need for fasting. Or at least have lab technicians in early so they can draw the blood regardless of when you are seeing the doctor.

566 I would have walked out of the restaurant if after asking for the manager to come to the table and verify that their policy is in fact to card everyone.

Anyone that stupid deserves to not have my business. When you insist that all your employees turn off their reasoning faculties to meet some idiot 'policy', then fuck you very much I cannot support that.

In my 40s, at a Walmart next to the house, buying a dozen or so items including a 6 pack, I was informed of this same policy -- and I walked.

There's dozens of places looking for a chance at my money. And if a business has a set of rules to follow, like a dress code, that I don't want to conform to that's okay too. They get to keep their business pristine from my contamination, and I get to keep my money.

573 The Coast Niteclub, inside the Beau Rivage casino in Biloxi, has the following dress code:

The following articles of clothing are prohibited:

Plain t-shirts, tank tops or sleeveless shirts
Shorts
Hats or sun visors
Beach attire
Flip flops or sandals
Athletic wear or work out clothing
Jerseys or sweat pants
Work boots
Gang-related colors, symbols or violent logos
Oversized shirts, pants or shorts
Clothing that has profanity, obscene acts or gestures printed/written on it
Stockings that are worn on heads
Handkerchiefs that are exposed
Holes or rips in clothing

Management reserves the right to refuse entry into the nightclub to anyone anytime.

I see nothing wrong with that, nor do I have any desire to enter the place. But there sure were a lot of nicely dressed, attractive ladies standing in the line to get in the other nite.

Same here, blood work and urine donations this morning. I guess I'm 'lucky', my visit is scheduled for 8 a.m., with no doctor's appointment. Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. This one's for Muldoon:

Did you hear the story of the three Indian squaws who were admitted to the maternity ward at the same time? Big Chief Wampum, the head obstetrician, assigned one to a buffalo hide, the second to an elk hide and the third to a hippopotamus hide. And, in due time, the squaws on the elk and buffalo hides each gave birth to a six-pound son. But the squaw on the hippopotamus hide mothered healthy six-pound twins.

All of which proves, of course, that the sons of the squaw of the hippopotamus equal the sons of the squaws of the other two hides.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.
