32 The Huff Po has a piece about why guns for self defense should be outlawed. The writer makes the claim that by killing an attacker we are denying him his right to a trial so self defense use of guns should be outlawed so all criminals can receive a fair trial.

The idiot didn't say anything about what would happen to my rights when an attacked killed me.

Being that stupid should be painful, possibly then the person would make an effort to correct the problem.

41 Boy, I feel a big comment coming on, but being pressed for space, or forcing a wall of text on y'all....it's hard being succinct.

Shortest version: Higher Ed is royally screwed up. Having extended the privilege of admittance to the truly unworthy, and then NOT enforcing the rules of proper behavior has taught this generation that bad behavior has its benefits, which far outweigh the consequences.

When I acted up as a youngster, it was not "an opportunity to have a conversation about..." unless you call a foot in your ass a conversation.

If bad behavior, whether it be vandalism, protesting, assaulting, or generally pitching a fit like a two year old, gets an administrator to come and "negotiate" or have a conversation of any sort, that is a win for bad behavior.

And so it will continue, and get worse. They call that education these days.

Posted by: fixerupper at April 27, 2016 10:43 AM (8XRCm)

67 Last night, the men's group at our church met at a restaurant. Three of us had just arrived, it was early, we had just ordered drinks when I look over at the guy on my right, who has his head thrown back, mouth hanging open.

He was an old guy, a few years older than me, so I figure he's had a hard day and is catching a few Zs

So I laugh and shake him by the shoulder.

Nothing. No movement.

I shake him again, and call his name in a loud voice. He doesn't move, but out of his mouth comes this exhalation of breath that sounds like a strange sort of rattle.

I think, holy shit, that can't be good.

So I announce in a loud voice that I think we've got a medical situation here, we move the table away and get him to the floor, I call 911 and they have us start banging on his chest to get his heart going.

One of the waiters is a trained EMT, and he teams up with another customer who is a doctor, and I'm talking with the 911 operator while they're trying to get a pulse (weak and thready) and so in a few minutes the EMTs arrive, sirens wailing and lights flashing.

You know that bit in the movie where a guy is not moving or breathing and a med tech puts a defibrillator paddle on his chest, calls out "Clear!" and you see the body jerk convulsively? I got to see that last night up close.

The EMTs were great, they knew exactly what to do, got him to the hospital and I found out from the pastor that they're still trying to figure out what caused the heart attack (for that was what it was), and whether he's going to need surgery or not, but even with all of that, they expect him to have a complete recovery.

And thank God for that.

So, how was YOUR evening?

Clicking on the sidebar link showing that young whatever-the-hell-it-is shrieking like a wounded moose at Steve Crowder, Milo Y. and Christina Hoff Summers for saying things she disproves of illustrates your point perfectly.

I enjoyed Crowder's put-down of the SJWs (also linked in the sidebar) so much that I watched the entire presentation on YouTube.

Milo Y. had the best comment of the evening, IMO. He gently (gently for Milo) said to the crowd, you're all what, about 20 years old. YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. So have a bit of humility, be willing to admit you don't have all the questions and that you might learn from someone with a different perspective.

Of course the brainless leftists kept shrieking, but maybe the more intelligent and thoughtful kids in the crowd actually learned something.

It showed the County still loves him and wishes he would stay Presdent and do something about that stooped Constitution thing written by racist persons of no color over 400 years ago. Also we call on Presdent Obama to arrest Bush now for his crimes against persons of all colors.

Their heath administrator sounds out of his depth, whining that people are not taking adequate precautions after - get this! - initially not informing students there were cases of mumps on campus. I recall in the late 80's there was a bad flu outbreak and my university was actively quarantining students by setting up services to ensure sick students were kept separate while recovering, ensuring that healthy students weren't exposed. And that was for the *flu*, not something as awful as mumps.

156 Nate Silver has a really interesting chart up today, showing that GOP primary participation was way down in the northeastern primaries on Tuesday, from earlier primaries.

Early races like New Hampshire and Wisconsin had 28-30% of eligible voters turn out. Even more recent races, like Georgia and Virginia had 17-20% of eligible voters turn out.

In Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island and New York, it was 6-10%.

Obviously these aren't going to be GOP friendly states in the fall, but it is interesting that Republicans didn't even care enough to turn out and vote.

170 Cruz announcement this afternoon?

He abandons talking about the Constitution and the rule of law, starts blustering in 4th-grade-level vocabulary, calling his opponents names, reversing his position on issues every other day, and wearing a clown wig. While cussing and waving his hands oddly.

Adopting the winning strategy that appeals to the modern American voter.

Posted by: mindful webworker - Cruz/Bridenstine 2016 at April 27, 2016 11:16 AM (macz7)

171 So who from Indiana is Cruz planning to pick to help bolster his chances of winning the state?

I say this as a Cruz supporter, who knows the writing is on the wall and he is not going to be nominated.

His campaign has made some major boneheaded moves, especially the "Team up with Kasich and don't bother with a couple of states" strategy.

This announcement doesn't exactly fill me with promise.

"I have said from the beginning the most important attribute for any running mate is that he or she should be prepared to step in and fulfill the role as president," Cruz said today in Indianapolis."

So Carly Fiorina, who couldn't scatch enough votes together to stay in the race for more than two months is that person.

I will say, she attacks Hillary well and often, but sometimes comes off with too much shrew attitude.

173 Cruz was speaking to reporters this morning about how the great people of Indiana, with their Midwestern values, are going to set things right, to deny the Evil Donald 1,237, so that the AnoinTED can take the convention on the n! ballot, so that, as the Right Hand of the Almighty, the AnoinTED will smite the Godless Hillary in November and all will be well.

So expect an announcement at 4 pm today that Carly will be his VP.

If the 4 pm presser, isn't Cruz dropping out he'll continue to kill his brand. What happens when you hand with Romney.

As an ex-CEO, can't Carly find a better way to get out of the house. Take up golf. Learn to fly a plane. Fuck the pool boy.

175 Esp. after last night, Cruz has got to make it look like his campaign is not falling off with the voters and finished.

VP announcement might help and I like Carly a lot.

My guess is that it's both VP and perhaps laying out a way for him to take the nom.

If he's smart, he'll simply say something like- "I'll be a better President than Trump and here's why..."

Then, use that list to compare and contrast not with Trump but with Hillary!-

ie. act like the winner you expect to be.

That means going after Hillary! hard...hard enough to generate news.

Will it work?

I have my doubts. I voted for Cruz but that would be a more difficult choice now.

The GOPe/Soros plan to use Kasich as a drag on both Cruz and Trump appears to be working, if we go to a Contested Convention, I expect the GOPe/Soros connection to win. Probably Kasich.

So, at this point, I'd probably vote Trump to get it over with and deny the GOPe/Soros combine a shot.

YMMV.

176 I had a happy thought this morning. I remembered how happy we all were about nine months ago.

Remember how we had a great field of candidates, a deep bench, and Hillary was so loathsome that even the Dems didn't like her?

Carly rocked it. I quite liked Rand. Scott Walker sat on a throne of union skulls with a crown of teacher's cheese. Perry didn't seem to be taking back meds and he'd flown war jets.

Cute little Bobby Jindal was telling the story of the American Dream. So were the Cubans, Rubio and Cruz.

Christie was entertaining in the debates. Carson lent the whole scene a certain somnabulent dignity. The worst thing we had to worry about was Jeb! and that passing sideshow by the reality TV guy.

Good times. Happy times.

181 142 The yellowish light looks like tornado weather, or so midwesterners tell me. It reminds me too of the lighting in the current "underworld Storybrooke" episodes on "Once Upon a Time."

I've never see the light get quite like that, but it does get weird in a way that is hard to describe.

About 10 years ago, we had 85 degree weather in early March - quite bizarre (and initially very much welcomed in Wisconsin). I remember wearing a summer dress to work that day - but by the time work got out, the sky was looking very ominous indeed. It was still warm and bright outside but pitch black clouds were moving in from the lake and eventually several of them formed twisters. The rain suddenly came down in sheets. One of the twisters touched down a block away from my brother's house, tore up a park and deposited a huge tree on his next door neighbor's lawn - if it had hit his roof, it would have demolished it.

191 "The GOPe/Soros plan to use Kasich as a drag on both Cruz and Trump appears to be working, if we go to a Contested Convention,"

There's been this persistent mental tic many have that if it weren't for the other candidates Cruz would be beating Trump. e.g. when Trump was getting 35% - 40% in a crowded field it meant that 60% to 65% hated Trump and would go for Cruz if the other candidates only got out of the way. And Kasich is a Cruz spoiler, because all his votes would go for the AnoinTED. It's less than objective, to be charitable.

192 I had a happy thought this morning. I remembered how happy we all were about nine months ago.

Remember how we had a great field of candidates, a deep bench, and
Hillary was so loathsome that even the Dems didn't like her?

Carly rocked it. I quite liked Rand. Scott Walker sat on a throne
of union skulls with a crown of teacher's cheese. Perry didn't seem to
be taking back meds and he'd flown war jets.

Cute little Bobby Jindal was telling the story of the American Dream. So were the Cubans, Rubio and Cruz.

Christie was entertaining in the debates. Carson lent the whole
scene a certain somnabulent dignity. The worst thing we had to worry
about was Jeb! and that passing sideshow by the reality TV guy.

Good times. Happy times.

195 Saw this morning a detailed description of the unbound delegates in PA and elsewhere in the NE. The discussion was that the unbound delegates , around 50 in total, traditionally have voted for whoever won their county or precinct area.

Trump won every single county in PA last night. If those unbound delegates vote in their tradtional manner, Trump will need less than the 1237 bound delegates to win the nomination.

I also guess Cruz will stay in the race through Indiana. If he doesn't win Indiana, he will get out.

220 Good morning praying 'rons and 'ettes.

I had a prayer request on the last night's ONT. I will repeat for daywalkers.

My brother--who lives 2,000 miles away--called yesterday to let me know he has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. (Treatment is not decided and there hasn't been a clear prognosis.) So please pray for him.

I also need wisdom regarding timing of a trip east to see him. I absolutely have to go. And I want to go sooner, rather than later. But do I drop everything and go like right away? Or do I give a couple of weeks?

Now, apart from convenience, which is not the issue, going as soon as possible strikes me of panic, which might not be best for encouragement and faith. It is, however, best to see him while we can still have good conversations.

Anyhow, prayers appreciated. Back to regular programming.

Northernlurker, I would go asap. Depending on the type of cancer, etc. his time may be short. If he is to be treated, the treatments will not enable him to be able to enjoy a visit with you. If he is not able to be treated and his time is short, delaying a visit is not what you want to do.
I have experience with this with a family member. I'm just giving this to you straight, so that you can make the best decision for you and for your brother. My family member went from an active, athletic 65 year old and unknown that he had lung cancer to passing away within six weeks from a very aggressive tumor. Don't waste time that you may not have.

No. It's to keep the blood circulating. To keep it moving. Because if the blood stops, brain damage begins. Also if you push so hard you break ribs, that's good! Supposed to push down as hard as you can, one second intervals to mimic the heart, until help arrives. You'll need to do it in shifts because it of how hard you should push. Glad there was a good outcome.
