Barack Obama Is the Only Sane Man in the World's Room. Source: Barack Obama.

Every day, in every way, he finds new ways to aggrandize his ego and reduce America's position in the world.

Ed Driscoll ruminates on this WaPo article on Obama's version of smart diplomacy, which some experts call Stupid Diplomacy.

By Greg Jaffe and Griff Witte April 18 at 8:54 PM

For someone who preaches the importance of diplomacy and outreach, even to longtime enemies, President Obama can be awfully tough on his friends.

In recent months, he has offended most of the United States' Persian Gulf allies. "All I need in the Middle East is a few smart autocrats," he joked privately, according to a recent profile in the Atlantic magazine. Publicly, he has said he "weeps" for Saudi and Kuwaiti children....

Even the United Kingdom, a U.S. "special" partner, has received criticism. Obama seemed to blame the postwar chaos in Libya on British Prime Minister David Cameron, who he said "became distracted by other things" and didn’t do enough to bring order to the fractious country.

...

One big challenge for Obama will be squaring the careful diplomatic rhetoric that's a standard, and frequently stultifying, part of all presidential visits with his tougher, more honest language from interviews back home.

"Leaders are going to have to deal with that dichotomy," said Heather Conley, a former State Department official and a Europe analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, "and I don’t believe it's going to be very easy."

Even before he became president, Obama introduced himself to the world as a multilateralist who aimed to solve the thorny problems of the 21st century collaboratively. "True partnership and true progress . . . require allies who will listen to each other, learn from each other and, most of all, trust each other," Obama told adoring crowds in Berlin in 2008.

Who do you think is to do the Listening and Learning and Trusting in Obama's view of the world?

...

It's possible that some [foreign leaders] may be thinking back to an interview the president did late last year with comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

"How many world leaders do you think are just completely out of their mind?" Seinfeld asked Obama.

"A sizable percentage," the president replied without missing a beat. "Some of these people, you meet them, you’ll just be chatting and you look in the eyes and go, 'Oh, this guy’s gone.'"

Read the whole thing; the authors recount most of Obama's serial insults of allies. (Though the article doesn't bother noting all of his apologizing to enemies, current and former.)

Obama continues fantasizing that he has some powerful charisma and moral authority and that he can reshape the world simply by throwing some shade on parts of the world -- those parts of creation which offend his divine gaze shall reassemble themselves in forms more pleasing to Obama the Almighty.

It's a sick joke -- there has never been a president with less influence and respect around the world, yet he continues to strut and preen as if he is Adam in the garden, charged with naming each of the Ills of the world.

The weaker he is, the more his ego compensates by telling him he is mighty.

There's an old principle: If everyone in the world seems like an asshole, maybe you're the problem. After all, you're the common factor in every single one of your experiences.

And of course there's a big element of this in Obama -- the belief of the heavily feminized, academic-pretense left that world affairs are like a vicious bit of infighting in the university coffee room, and that the way you get results is by shit-talking and scorn.

David French observed this, after a high Obama official -- probably John Kerry or Obama himself -- called Benjamin Netanayu a "chickenshit."

Behold, the beautiful and delicate rhetorical stylings of our cultural and political elite...This is what happens when the academic Left runs American foreign policy.

For those who've lived under a rock for the past four-plus decades, the American academy has been characterized by two prime impulses: one substantive, the other stylistic. First, there's the substantive claim that the problems of the world can largely -- if not entirely -- be traced back to America’s sins and the sins of our Western allies, most notably Israel. These sins have caused the peoples of the world to accumulate a long list of "legitimate grievances," and the problem of anti-American or anti-Israeli violence is therefore best dealt with by dealing with the underlying grievance....

Next, there's the sophomoric, malicious style of campus rhetoric, where stigma is the preferred method of argument. It’s hard to overstate the propensity towards name-calling even of "elite" academics, and the culture of the academy is one where groupthink is enforced and reinforced through vicious rhetoric. Their opponents can’t be merely wrong. Instead they are racist, bigoted, homophobic, or -- despite professed love of the disabled -- "Aspergery."

The arrogance is overwhelming, and the fake tough-guy posture of name-calling elitists is laughable to everyone but themselves.

The Washington Post article repeatedly claims that Obama's rhetoric is "cool" and even "tough." It is nothing. It is the bloodless anger of a hollow-chested academic second-rater, spitting impotent venom at his colleagues in the break-room.

Update: What Obama Knows. Lizzy posts this infamous quote from Obama's fixer/fluffer Valerie Jarrett:

I think Barack knew that he had God-given talents that were extraordinary. He knows exactly how smart he is...

He knows how perceptive he is. He knows what a good reader of people he is. And he knows that he has the ability --- the extraordinary, uncanny ability --- to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually...

So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy. ...

He's been bored to death his whole life. He's just too talented to do what ordinary people do.

36 O'Shitforbrains is the worst President in US History. He also is the dumbest SOB in the world for foreign policy. He was elected by a combination of life long commi-crats and and people who are allergic to a job and any kind of of work; commonly known as the FSA. Also due to the problem of the Republicans not being able to come up with a candidate who can really energize the base and the population.

RR built the party, Bush 1 almost destroyed it and gave us Billy Bob serial rapist and cheater. Bush 2 ran as a conservative and even fooled me. His problem was listening to idiot Karl Rove. And now we have a choice between Trump, Cruz, and Kashit. The latter who is there just to muddy the waters as he has zero support from the population in general.

It scares me to death that they will let him have it. I talked to a pro Obama friend the other day about this.

Saudi Arabia threatened the US with unloading lots of I debt of ours that they hold, which could cause some economic issues. So Obama bowed to his-- and our-- Saudi masters.

The friend was OK with this and basically said "he had to do that, if he didn't, it would have hurt the economy."

I said this now proves we can be blackmailed. Friend wasn't concerned about that.

Posted by: weft cut-loop at April 19, 2016 03:00 PM (OcD4G)

You all realize that if this bill were to be passed, it would not only allow the families of 9/11 to sue the Saudi gov. it would then allow anyone in any country to sue the US gov. for any perceived grievance.
If the Saudi's were complicit in sponsoring terrorism, then our gov. and our military should be the one's dealing with it. That is what we have a gov. and a military for, to defend the American homeland.
Imagine who is in favor of having this bill passed...lawyers. Imagine the riches laid out before them in the legal warfare available, both from American's suing foreign governments and from foreign nationals suing the US gov, requiring literal army's of lawyers to defend it.
It's why nations do not permit their citizens to sue foreign governments per treaty agreements, etc.

Obama said this morning that he will veto it for the exact reason stated above. Finding myself agreeing with him is a strange place to be, but I'm being honest.

Obama is not associated with Benghazi one bit in any of the news reports in last 3 years. He isn't associated with the IRS scandal. He isn't associated with the ISIS creation and expansion. Recently he is never mentioned in the disaster that is becoming obvious that is Obamacare.

Unemployment, homelessness, food stamps or race relations. Everyone and everything is mentioned but Obama.

Look at Obamacare. It will literally improve the overall health of Americans and improve the health of this country. It even makes sense for our economy. If workers are healthier, because they have access to quality health care, that means there will be fewer people calling in sick to work, showing up sick to work and leaving work early.

There's an easy way to provide evidence of this. Obama would have taken the SAT at a time when it was a proxy for an IQ test - so accurate a proxy that MENSA accepted the SAT score for admission into the club. Obama's SAT scores would be raw, objective data to buttress the proposition that he's preternaturally intelligent.

More likely, he has an above-average ability to project the simulacrum of high intelligence to those not interested in investigating deeper than the polished veneer. It's why he takes pains to say "Pok-ee-stahn" but hasn't studied an actual foreign language (which requires work) to any level of proficiency.

Has anyone seen the latest "Vice" installment, the one concerning energy?

For an ultra-liberal production, they had a reasonably correct take on modular fluid salt reactors. Only problem is they tried to beat the drum for fusion reactors being viable in the near future.

This slight of hand made it seem (to brain dead liberals) that wind and solar had some place in the mix.

Hopefully, President Trump can jump on this immediately and push through approval of the design so that a massive, government backed, country-wide, unlimited electrical energy program can be started and finished in his first term.

Probably the most ambitious defuckification plan ever attempted.

This is the thing. For Obama (and Hillary, of course) rules are indeed only for "losers" or the little people. That's the way it works in their environment, where they are protected by the MSM, their own institutions, and their own followers.

But it's NOT the way it works out in the whole world---
which is one reason why Obama is such a failure in foreign affairs. He can make the NYTimes swoon with his sophomoric leftist blather, but Putin just laughs. He can delight the WaPo with his silly pronouncements about peaceful Islam, but Boko Haram doesn't give a crap. A majority of Americans may think he's cool, but China thinks he's a pathetic child.

There's no way in hell the UK, much less France, China, and Russia would put that putz in any UN position.
Hell, at the height of his international popularity, he couldn't even get the Olympics.

403 OT:

Just saw something on Twitter that reminded me of a thought I had a little while ago:

The states that expanded Medicaid are boned. Completely. Boned.

They are going to funnel so much money into that sinkhole that they are going to run out of money for anything else. This will pit core constituencies of (largely) the Democratic Party against each other, and it's not going to be a play fight like gay wedding cakes where people hop on a cause for a week and forget about it next Wednesday.

These are going to be people fighting for their livelihood. Teachers vs. police and firefighters vs. seniors vs. anyone who gets a transfer payment from states and localities that are subsidized by state money. They're going to raise taxes endlessly (you think that part is over?) to the point that every Democratic controlled state looks like California meaning: a very large underclass and a very powerful upper class with nary a middle class worker in between.

These states will lose influence at the federal level as their populations shrink and their representatives get fed into Republican controlled states with every passing census.

That's why I still have hope for this country: the states will save us from the federal government in some way. I imagine that social issues will keep a fair number of the liberal middle classes from moving to Republican states as they talk themselves into staying by saying, "I can always apply for aid and at least I don't have to deal with icky flyover hicks."

Turning our Republican states into actual conservative states (and keeping our conservative states conservative) may end up being a more important task than saving the federal government.

One striking thing about Obama's existence, besides the revelation/confirmation that the US had become a completely unserious and degraded country, is how it highlighted the pathetic state of leadership in other countries.

Three generations of Uncle Sugar providing all the material and non-material resources for any serious undertakings of course made this generally unsurprising. But the time it took for many to realize the US no longer mattered and to start making their own arrangements was surprising.

419 OT: However, it says a lot about the world we live in, including Obama. SO therefore is not that off topic...

Paul Ryan says that he is skeptical about the 9-11 bill and does not want to hurt our relationship with our important ally - Saudi Arabia.

So Obama's stupid vision of foreign policy is only equaled by Paul Ryan's stupid vision of foreign policy who right now is the sitting de-facto elected leader of the GOP.

Look at it this way Obama and Ryan agree on the 9-11 bill. The sad reality of our world is members of the Saudi Royal family can help jihadist kill thousands of Americans. The Royal family in general can fund mosques in America that teach hated of America, to not integrate into America, to destroy the U.S. constitution, etc.

Yet the most important elected figures in both major political parties think that our "alliance" is worth that and will continue to be worth thousands of more dead Americans.

But remember Paul Ryan is so smart, and young, and fresh. I never understood the comparisons of Obama with Trump, even the ego thing. Paul Ryan is a much closer fit to Obama. Trump's ego is the loud and proud, bellicose type. In other words he admit it with a smile and wink. Obama, and Ryan, is that nose in the air, I am so holy, so much more morally superior to you type of ego.

420 It'll be interesting when TFG leaves office-

he's been collecting a ton of cash through his Organizing for America scam.

I think he plans to be America's Community Organizer using BLM and OWS retards as his front line.

There interesting thing will be if and how badly the Dims lose in November.

If they lose badly across the board, look for a shit-ton of "tell all" books about the Obama administration all emphasizing what a feckless turd he was and how the "good and moral" people of the Dim Party were taken in by this scam artist.

Actually, expect much the same thing if Hillary! wins, she'll want to clear the decks of all Obama's people so her's can slurp up maximum graft.

Too close to DC, where all those Democrat voting bureaucrats live.

Remember the "smart bomb" that was decried by leftists back in the 1980's because it would kill people but leave buildings intact?

In the case of DC, the left would love the reverse - keep all the people sucking on the teat of Big Government, from the K St. lobbyists to the welfare leeches in the NE slums - but destroy all the monuments.

Wouldn't they love to get rid of the hated Constitution, the Washington Monument, the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials.....They could erase our history and put up monuments to their gods...

The states that expanded Medicaid are boned. Completely. Boned.

They are going to funnel so much money into that sinkhole that they

constituencies of (largely) the Democratic Party against each other, and
it's not going to be a play fight like gay wedding cakes where people

That's definitely possible, but that 10% the states will (and currently do) have to pay is already placing strain on their budgets. Instead of falling back to, what? 70%?, and staying at 90%, with increased enrollment....it's still going to bust budgets and pit Democratic stalwarts against each other.

My best case scenario is that the Democratic party starts splitting at the state level (even if they still find common cause at the federal level), giving room for Republicans to wrest more control by small pluralities in races that are unwinnable now but wouldn't be in a three way race.

My only retort to that is: So many Democrats now have a nearly visceral hatred of the Republican Party that they might not be able to do it. They've convinced themselves that Republicans are as bad, if not worse than, Nazis, and they can't associate with that.

496 ValJar isn't only the fluffer who strokes his ego, she is the shadow President of the United States when Obama is busy "golfing with the boys". She is the Iranian connected, American Communist Party connected insider, their overt mole in the seat of power.

And twenty bucks says if Hillary gets indicted and Biden is the Savior Nominee, that ValJar stays on as the representative of the Powers That Be behind the scenes.

497 "There's an old principle: If everyone in the world seems like an asshole, maybe you're the problem."

Or perhaps, "... maybe you're the dark, empty space the asshole defines."

498 "And twenty bucks says if Hillary gets indicted and Biden is the Savior Nominee, that ValJar stays on as the representative of the Powers That Be behind the scenes."

And if Hillary isn't indicted it'll be Huma, praise be unto her.

499 Why nuke a state that's turning itself blue. It'd be a bastion of red conservatism that he'd hit.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plain.

The only state where not one county voted for him. Which is right beside, Kansas, where only one county did.

500 >>>60 #17 Never forget Mooch at Westminster Abbey in some gawdawful white dress covered in bands of actual bright yellow, pink, and orange silk flowers around the belly/hips over dark grey pants, boob belt, topped by both a yellow and lilac cardigan, and no hat.

you do make affection for the Bern near palpable, nearly. wtf happened in VT after I left years ago.

I do think this sock would do well to change it from
Brattleboro to Bellows Falls, just sayin'

I miss VT like .... got nothin'
I don't miss it save for learning how to drive in inclement weather

502 "So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents" Translation: "I'm the real genius here."

Note to Press Corpse: When you see the mysterious midnight flights out of Riyadh Airport this week, that's President Hadji going to Mecca.

Your welcome.

504 #498, Huma is the Muslim Brotherhood insider. Saudi and Gulf Arab influence vs ValJar's pro-Iranian line.

Both want the American ship of state turned their way.

505 Katshit got testy with a Financial Times reporter yesterday. Hilarity ensued:

Katshit: "Republicans want someone who can win in the Fall"

Reporter: "If you've only won Ohio..."

Katshit; "Can I finish?" he said, cutting off the reporter.

Reporter: "If you answer the question."

Katshit: "I'm answering the question the way that I want to answer it. You want to answer it?"

Katshit then grabs the reporter's voice recorder and said "Here, let me ask you a question. What do you think?"

What a maroon.

506 when Valerie was asked what Barack's biggest weakness is: she answered that because he cares so much he works too hard.

507 "He's just too talented to do what ordinary people do."--Obey the law?

Just because Valerie says you're brilliant, that doesn't Mecca you the smartest man in the Islamic world.

508 The truly incredible empty-headed moronity and incidental overpowering ego of Barky The Puppy-Eatin' Dilettante...

Like a li'l puppy himself - whatever he can't chow-down on, fuck-up repeatedly - or just fuck - he shits on, flops on or walks on, then tries to bury

And the thoroughly-regrettable bint called Jarrett is only marginally less distasteful and substantially more of an asshole.

Next January 20th can't get here fast enough - the only flaw is, we can't likely do anything to make him, his disgusting spouse, his near-equally-regrettable kiddies and all of his repugnant "staff" and other cohorts simply vanish from existence on that day - if not sooner...

509 I think Barack knew that he had God-given talents that were extraordinary.

What she said was just BS.

Has chemjeff posted today? Last night on the ONT his father was in the hospital w/ a heart attack.
