9 So I was sitting there with the fetching Mrs VIA, watching the Idiot Panel last night.

And in the middle of a popular medical series, I get to watch the life molding decisions of two lesbians, including their passionate showing of physical love for each other.
I then get to watch the sub plot of a jilted third member of this same sex party discussing custody of the child from their former relationship.

And previews of next week, where a child is injured after two children find their mothers handgun, and one shoots the other.
And the glimpses into the surgical table side conversation between doctors about the negative impact of firearms on our society.

If I want preaching, I can go to church.

If I want liberal preaching, I just need to turn on ANY current popular television show.

This is how they are attempting to normalize their "morality". They just push it down your throat so much on TV that you become desensitized to it and think it's everywhere, when it's really just a tiny amount of Hollywood people jerking the rest of the country around.

They have actually made robots that can do Fast Food prep, they're just expensive. Their $15 an hour nonsense will skew the cost/benefit analysis in favor of the robots. The real minimum wage is always zero. If it's too uneconomic to do something, people just stop doing it and suffer the consequences.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.

As some of you know, I have a fondness for the story / joke collections of publisher / bon vivant Bennett Cerf, which, I think, every house should have. Not only are they full of wit, they're also clean, which is a rare commodity in these perverse times. In any event, here's a story from the 1965 omnibus Laugh Day, one which I think J.J. will appreciate:

It seems that Israeli private Avram felt homesick one day and tried to get a three-day pass. "Nothing doing," his captain told him. "To get a three-day pass in this man's army, you've got to earn it with some spectacular exploit."

A few days later, Avram astounded his platoon by capturing a brand-new Arab tank. Of course, he was rewarded with a three-day pass. Less than a month later, he captured another Arab tank and snagged another three day pass. When he bagged a third tank, he became a national hero and was promoted to captain himself.

Some time later, Private Moshe, who happened to be Avram's cousin, sidled up to him. "Hey, Captain, how about one of those three-day passes for your favorite cousin?"

"Sorry,"
Captain Avram told him. "You have to earn one like I did."

"But I can't,"
wheedled Moshe. "I don't have your guts."

Captain Avram locked the door of his office, pulled down the shades and pulled Cousin Moshe close. "Listen, Moshe," he whispered, "it's not as hard as you think. Take one of our own tanks out of the compound some night and drive out into the desert. Pretty soon, you'll meet up with some Arab tank driver who's also looking for a three-day pass. . . "

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

I did a little digging into this $15 min wage thing..

This is a hundred million dollar campaign run by SEIU. Notice the slick professionally printed signs and T-shirts?

SEIU is not even trying to organize Micky D's workers into a union where they could strike for $15.. they don't even give a shit about McD workers..

They want the feds to pass $15 min wage laws because they have contracts all over the country based on minimum wage PLUS.. Min wage is the base (plus some number).. so the hotel workers in Cleveland, for instance, might have a contract that read $2.35 over minimum wage.. If they get a national $15 min wage passed, those workers get a $5 per hour instant raise! and their supervisors and on and on up the chain.. supposedly with more going into the union's coffers.

43 Still on the 15 thing...

The wages paid to entry-level workers haven't kept with inflation for 30 years, and it's criminal that a person can work a 40 hour per week job and not be able to feed and house themselves independently. As is usual with the Left, they see a problem and come up with the most bonkers possible solution, something that will be even worse than the problem.

What we ought to be doing is looking at why the wages in the entry-level market are stagnant, and you come up with 2 reasons. The big culprit is supply, or particularly an oversupply of the labor market in the form of massive illegal immigration and H1b shenanigans. There's not a lot of employers and a lot of potential employees, so they can pay what they want and someone will be desperate enough to take it.

The second reason is on the demand side. Our employers that would normally be employing people in the US are now employing people in China. Why? Because of lower costs of doing business, thanks to environmental and labor regulations. We're playing by a set of rules and they aren't, so we're getting clobbered, pure and simple. Our only choices are to either deregulate to their level, or do something on our end to try to nullify their structural advantage.

Ridiculous oversupply via immigration, reduced demand due to boneheaded trade policy, and wages are getting pummeled on both ends. Seems obvious to me.

.Most of the Unions in California have asked to be exempt from the wage increase happening there. I am not sure what their ultimate game plan is, bu they are fighting to have any person working under an employment contract to be exempt from the $15 minimum wage increase.

I suspect it is a stealthy way to force employers to unionize their shops so they can pay lower wages thus increasing union membership numbers and dues.

Everything in economics always comes down to supply and demand. Wages are a commodity just like any other. That's too much common sense for DC, though. They could run a hundred blue ribbon panels and they'd just conclude that the best way to solve the problem was by stuffing another trillion debt dollars into their donors pockets.

Minimum wage should be exactly $ 00.00. It's not about the supposed "value" of the person, it's about the value of the labor for the particular job at hand.

In fact, if I had the opportunity as a young adult to be an intern to any one of a number of incredibly successful/powerful people, I'd have gladly paid them to have it.

But again, it's a scam to jack up union wages and further drive up the cost of living for the American citizen.

86 "Foot In The Door Approach "

6 years ago I was in the process of adopting a 5 year old boy from Haiti when the devastating earthquake happened. Within days the US State Sept (Hillary) was pushing for the release of orphans in the process of adoption and after 5 weeks and a lot of hoop jumping on my part my son came to America much earlier than I had anticipated. Of course I was glad for that but in the back of my mind worried about the jump over immigration laws in the back of my mind. It seems so quaint now. 6 years later we essentially have no immigration laws as they are not enforced and my bad feeling proved correct. A perfect example of exploitation of a horrible disaster for a much bigger and malevolent purpose (open borders ). Not to mention how the Clinton ton Foundation got their foot in the door and funneled off all that money (along with corrupt Haitian officials) that should have gone to rebuilding the devastation.

Cooler today. Paul and I took the afternoon off and sat on a ledge by the sea. About the only conclusion we came to was we'd like to be home. That's only natural in this place. We also decided that we must be slightly off the beam. No normal person could ever stand it here.

Arty tried a new wrinkle today. A precision adjustment on three heavy guns. A P-51 adjusted the 8" howitzer with devastating effect. Those guns shouldn't fire for a while.

Precision shoots have now graduated to the 240's. Gerrys arty must be getting a bit on the touchy side. It's bad enough to have those things drop in helter-skelter but it must be literal hell to know that someone can see you and is adjusting right on the point where you are.
Smoke pots on the beachhead keep all the rear areas under a continual haze. Jerry tries to shoot back into it but since he can't see his results are somewhat ineffective.

There will be no budget because apparently a guy who was in charge of the ways and means committee and was budget chairman and who has been in congress for 20 years doesn't know what the budget schedule is or how to use a calander.

But he sure has time to go home to his family on the weekends and shit on the GOP front runner.

The cold cereal thing is imbecilic, I agree. Why bother with a real, live woman who will, nine times out of ten, have you arrested and branded as a rapist the next morning? You know, everyone loves to laugh at 70's fashion now, but I don't remember people saying "Oh, God, this hair, these clothes, this avocado green refrigerator - it's all so ugly." Perhaps it was the drugs, but people thought those things were OK then. Of course, when thing go out of fashion, you always look back and wonder how you could have possibly worn those plaid baggies with platform shoes and that Farah Fawcett "feathered' haircut.

But we have fashion now that everyone knows is ugly - neck beards, man buns, really disgusting body mutilation in the form of ear gauges and awful tatoos. I suppose it started with the punks, but the punks were always a very small percentage of the youth population.

I think you can blame the degraded fashion on the Left also. Everything praiseworthy must be vilified, and everything awful must be praised. That is their way in everything, and their physical appearance is just their philosophy taken out of the context of their (anti-) morality and into standards of beauty.

148 >>>But we have fashion now that everyone knows is ugly - neck beards, man
buns, really disgusting body mutilation in the form of ear gauges and
awful tatoos.<<<

I saw my first man bun the other day. I thought they were like the mythical Sasquatch until it jumped out at me. Totes underwhelming.

150 Politics is downstream from culture, and culture is downstream from philosophy. The fish rots from the head, and our culture is rotting from its headwaters. Where does the philosophy come from? It comes from the academians that get published and the entertainers that spew their rubbish to the masses.

151 It is surprising how far people will go to avoid a little effort.

Whole Foods sells bags of finely chopped cauliflower (if you are doing paleo you can use cauliflower "rice" in place of pasta). One bag costs $5. Well, f that, I can buy a whole head of cauliflower, cut it into pieces and chop the pieces up finely in my food processor in a few minutes.

A millennial at work (Bernie fan who is always complaining about her pay because she's not making big bucks straight out of college) told me she buys those $5. bags all the time. "Don't you have a food processor or a mini-chopper?" I said. "Yeah, but I don't want to wash it."

OK but don't complain about how badly you're getting paid when you're routinely shelling out $5 for a little bag of chopped up veggies.

Also - remove yourself from my lawn

Heh, My Kontribution to the Kollective. Wife and I used to alternate sitting through that show at DW a couple of times each because mini-me loved it for some reason. It fits. All they do is sit up there and crap on everyone when they're not even in the show.

I wonder when the opinions of entertainers became valued?

Vincent Price is my favorite actor. But even if I knew what he thought about anything, I would hardly be taking his opinion as "The Right Way" on any subject.

When did people stop thinking for themselves? It's not all that difficult.

Potential willow comment here, but if you ever see pictures of one of MLK's marches, the first thing that jumps out at you is how nicely dressed everyone was! We've come a long way, baby!

156 Other leftist solution beside minimum wage increase: send everybody to college. For free.

They should just give everyone a stipend, free weed, a XBox and be done with it.
