What? Hilary, NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio Make Terrible Scripted "Colored People Time" Joke at Ceremony

Was anyone at the dinner really offended by the "CPT" joke? Probably not. In a relatively sane world that would be all that matters. But let's face it, no Republican presidential candidate who dared to perform a skit based on a racial stereotype about black people would be allowed to live it down. If Trump or Cruz had tried this, CNN would run the clip on a loop and either Don Lemon or Anderson Cooper would be asking in very serious tones if such humor was still appropriate in 2016. The media’s rules, as ever, are just different for Democrats.

If black people aren't offended, fine. But I'm still very annoyed myself. Not at the joke -- but the idea that there is a Special Awesomely Privileged Rich White People's Club where you are allowed to say some things others aren't -- a top 1% of Free Speech Privilege -- and then the rest of us plebes and proles have to deal with a punishing gauntlet of speech codes, speech crimes, #SafeSpaces and Hashtag Mobs.

And meanwhile, state attorneys general conspire together to illegally investigate and punish people for speech they don't like (in this case, global warming "denialism").

It's essentially the belief that black people place a different, lower cultural value timeliness/policing tardiness and therefore in a corporate or work environment holding them to white standards (and assessing their performance negatively for tardiness) is wrong and anti-diversity.

There was a memorial service for a woman who had passed away. She was Asian, middle-class, with 100% pf her relatives being Asian, and when she was alive 85% of her friends were Asian, and 14.9% of her friends were white. She had, as far as anybody knew, exactly ONE black friend, whom we'll call "Denise" -- but who, interestingly, was her best friend.

So, people are filing into the room for the memorial, Asian Asian Asian white Asian Asian Asian Asian Asian white white Asian Asian Asian Asian Asian white Asian Asian and then suddenly black black black black black.

The sister of the woman who passed away, who was clasping hands with everyone who entered, clasped hands with the first black woman, who announced, "Hi, we're the family of Denise."

The sister replied, "Ah, that's what I figured. Thank you for coming."

I instantly winced internally, seeing how the comment could be somewhat misinterpreted. What the sister meant, of course, was the factual fact that the deceased woman only had one black friend, so it makes total sense that the black people arriving at the event would be that friend's family.

But -- you guessed it - -the black woman instantly took offense, and snapped back, "Oh that's because we all look alike to you, hunh?" before filing into the room.

Although only a few people overheard this interchange, it immediately cast a racial pall over the proceedings. Unpleasant.

Question: Who was right or wrong in this situation? The sister for being unwittingly "racially insensitive," or the black attendee for having a hair-trigger racial grievance trigger?

I am ashamed to say I was late to my 30th birthday party which took place in my oe. house. Of course, some of my American friends were already there. The only Nigerian that were there were the ones who came to help me set up for the party.

206 I saw this comedy show special filmed in London. The comedian was Jooish and from NY. He talked about his brother, the Hebrew Hammer, who lives in SF and only thinks about weight lifting. Reminded me of the brother in Goodbye Columbus. I looked him up and he is right, the guy is really into weight lifting. He also works for Oracle so has a legitimate reason to be in SF. He's also on the Israeli luge team.

The officially state-approved politically correct term is "African-American", and insanely enough this now gets used OUTSIDE of America.

There have been several notable cases in the UK of individuals referring to black people as "black", and being sanctimoniously corrected with "oh, you mean African-American."

Well, no, because the black people being referred to are British nationals, born in the UK, with no connection to the US, and never having even visited the US.

But still, the automatic knee-jerk political correctness imposition is now so strong that it kicks in even when it's entirely contextually ludicrous to use it.

"People of color" (good, I think?)
"Black" (Literal but not considered fully appropriate?)
"African American" (How many syllables do we really need for this)
"Minority" (I think this is offensive?)
