EMT 4/10/2016 [krakatoa]

April 10th, 2016. Here, in the grip of the mostest changiest of global warmenisming, I wake to 19 degrees.

Days like this I hearken back to the wise words of Drew Carey.

I love Cleveland. The weather just terrible there - too cold. All we want to know in Cleveland is where the hell's all that global warming we've been hearing so much about. That's all they ever do in the winter, stand outside with an aerosol can. >ssst< That's right. Screw the grandkids. I'm cold now.

2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, April 10, 2016. On this day in 1821 Patriarch Gregory V of Constantinople was hanged by the muzzie Ottoman government from the main gate of the Patriarchate and his body was thrown into the Bosphorus.

3 After nearly a decade of foot dragging and disregard for a court order the corrupt Obamanites finally release Fast and Furious documents. However after an initial look at them the Republicans say they did not release all that was requested. So the cover-up of Holder's illegal activities continues.

4 Idiot Suckymyer doesn't like Obama's latest SCOTUS pick. This political idiot with zero experience was confirmed 68/31 by the Senate. There were 9 Republican RINO sell-outs otherwise she would have been toast. This statement confirms that she lied during her confirmation hearings regarding actions based on political belief instead of law. She should be impeached after Obama is gone.

97 Good Sunday Morning, Hordelings! This week I decided to get serious. Somber, even. Many of you know I am transitioning from a very casual church that I love to a church that I, uh, have to dress up for. Ixnay on the flip-flops and jeans. I am trying to be cheerful while simultaneously gritting my teeth. If you feel fingernails gripping the pew behind you, it might be me. So. Instead of my usual happy upbeat cheerful joyful fun Christian praise and worship, I am featuring a choir from St. Olaf's College in Minnesota. Because, Lutheran. Also Scandi. And soon I shall be a Scandi Lutheran. So.

In all seriousness, this is quite a beautiful hymn, sung accapella by a choir that really lets the music build upon itself. Lovely.

"What Wondrous Love is This, O My Soul."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsVnvN3EVxY

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul -
What wondrous love is this, O my soul?
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul.

103 Happy Sunday everybody! It's chilly but sunny here.

I went to the Orthodox church liturgy on Saturday evening. It's kind of like evensong in the Anglican tradition, but has chanting and lots of incense. Everything gets a "dose" of it because incense is regarded as being like prayers rising to heaven. I also went to an Orthodox baptism yesterday which is full of prayers. It is longer than what we have in the Protestant tradition but also very beautiful and meaningful.

I ams starting a new assignment next week (in addition to the PT one I have) as an interim Pastor. Today is a day of transition for the church I will be going to serve, so prayers for their current pastor and all their members for strength and peace and the knowledge that God is and will be with them would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

In this particular denomination they are appointed by the hierarchy so the church doesn't get a say unless at the first meeting it's such a disaster that neither party wants to be part of it, but I have never heard of that happening. God can work in both sorts of systems-the call system and the appointment system. i do think the hierarchy prays a lot about this (as opposed to throwing darts at a dartboard)so that's a good thing. About the Lackland AFB shooter

I'm confused as hell. Shooter got into the FBI at 38, and left by the time he was 40. Only two years. Then he goes to the USAF and enlists as a 40 year old so somehow his old ass had to get a waiver to get in He is made a TSgt as some sort of credit for his FBI service. The day he shot up the Medina annex they were doing training. Story in the Daily Mail says the guy who stopped him saved a bunch of lives somehow. So it doesn't sound like he just wanted to kill the CO, he wanted to kill more than that

Who is the shooter? There have been reports but the USAF will not say

What was his motive?

Who else was he trying to kill?

How did his old ass get a waiver? Did he have a special skill like say, Arabic language speaker?

Why the quickie promotion?

Why did he leave the FBI after only two years? Why did he enter the FBI so old to begin with? Did the FBI appropriately characterize his time at the FBI? Or did they just shove him off the the USAF? Did the USAF properly vet him? Or did they just take the this word for it?

I'm sure that it is dear, but you know as a person of faith of many years that you just submit yourself to God's will daily, praying that by what you do and say God be glorified and his son magnified. You have a lot of wonderful qualities. And another great thing-you have a man of prayer and faith and love beside you, :^)

And a sense of humor is a gift from God. That and patience go a long way.
I hope you will visit and tell us how things go

177 Not sure if I'll watch any of today's round, but there's an interesting Masters Tournament going on. The leader is trying to repeat as Champion (Jordan Spieth), he's followed by a young up-and-comer playing in only his second Major (Smylie Kaufman)and a 58-year old German codger looking for his third Masters, the first two having come in 1985 and 1993 (Bernhard Langer). Also a few others just a few shots back. I think I'll root for "Smylie".

Okay... I have to mildly object to that characterization of a 40-year old.

Old for the service, yes, but 'old', no.

180 In early 2006, Reeve explained, OnPoint Tactical was approached by a rather unusual client. In fact, when we spoke about the subject again several months later by telephone, Reeve emphasized how strange -- even surreal -- the man's story was. Nonetheless, he said, this much was certain: One day a man showed up at an OnPoint Tactical training exercise, accompanied by two federal security guards.

This gentleman, whose name Reeve would not reveal in order to maintain client anonymity, had been arrested a few years earlier for a spree of sophisticated bank robberies in Los Angeles. As a condition of his sentence being reduced, even potentially commuted altogether, the man had been asked to assist with an incredible task.

He had been asked to plan bank heists against al Qaeda.

181 Age limit to enter the FBI is normally 37. He was at least 38

Age limit to enter USAF pararescue is normally 28, he was 40

He had to have some sort of special skill in short supply to get these age waivers

Students at Ohio State University who attempted to occupy the area outside of president Michael V. Drake's office late Wednesday night experienced a surprise -- and a taste of the cruel, real world -- when a senior administrator coolly advised them that they would be arrested and expelled if they didn't retreat from their "occupied space."

184 "How did his old ass get a waiver? Did he have a special skill like say, Arabic language speaker? "

I believe that the process is called "Direct Procurement".

Special and limited skills needed by the military allow a reach out to individuals possessing these skills, and allow direct entry at an advanced pay grade considered commensurate with their level of skill.

In the lead up to the Gulf War, when I was recruiting, the search for certified Morticians to go active duty, in expectation of massive casualties was well documented.

I expect that this is a similar story.

I agree that something stinks to high heaven about this particular individual.

And I suspect that we will never be told the complete back story and truth concerning him.

Earlier, I was simply trying to explain the machinations of how someone could enter active duty at an advanced age, and leave Boot Camp at an advanced pay grade.

Another example is the procurement of individuals for the Navy's Musician rating.
Many of them enter at either E-5, or often E-6, simply due to the reality of if you want to attract and hire accomplished musicians, you better be prepared to offer something higher than E-2 pay.

Obviously, that doesn't apply in this case, but another example of deviation from the norm,

206 Re: the Ohio State protest, LOL. There were something like a dozen students. They claimed to have been given permission to stay inside Bricker Hall until 5 am in the morning. Then at midnight, they were told they had to leave. When they protested and wanted to know what was meant by "being arrested', they were told the police would pick them up, put them in paddy wagons and take them to jail. They also would be expelled from school.
