The real question is if *any* government sponsored models are accurate. The reason John was a CPA, instead of staying in civil engineering, was that he alerted the president of the CE firm where he had his first transportation planning job know that the manager was making up the numbers they were putting into the traffic models.

Nation Building = Colonization without all the icky military subjugation and conversion of the natives.

Sort of like the difference between buying a house versus renting it, living there a few months, knocking down a few walls, setting the roof on fire and then leaving in the middle of the night.

22 Police shoot unarmed black men at disproportionate rates per new study

Shoot more crackers. Only fair.

Of course it assumes all things being equal, doesn't it? Michael Brown is 'unarmed,' and assumed to be the same as someone sitting on a park bench.

'Proportionate' is a count of numbers. It doesn't factor the reaction of the confronted person to the police that escalates the situation.

24 Washington (AFP)- President Barack Obama is fond of saying he has run his last election, but Hillary Clinton's shortcomings and Donald Trump's shock ascent are drawing him ever faster into the 2016 race.

I'm surprised the queen hasn't decided to run again. I mean he's trampled over the Constitution so why should that amendment stop him.

The former First Lady, former Secretary of State, former Senator -- one of the most qualified presidential candidates in modern history -- seemed uninspired and uninspiring, awkward on the stump and seen with suspicion by key swathes of the electorate, including, incredibly, women.

Sikhs have certain mandated religious requirements. One is to have a knife, even a tiny symbolic one, on their persons at all times.

This has led to endless issues with "zero tolerance" school and workplace zampolits.

As well as with the TSA airport goons. Yeah, as though having someone carry a knife that's one inch long and blunter than a nail file is a grave risk to safety of flight.

Not that much of a fan of Ann Coulter. I could deal with the whole business of sleeping with Bill Maher. But endorsing Mitt Romney? Unforgivable.

However, even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then. Or an ACORN. And Ann certainly found a trove of them in one of those earlier "criminal bias" studies.

The study found that black motorists in New Jerksey were pulled over by the cops far more often than white motorists. Racist bias powers, activate!

Except, as Coulter pointed out, black motorists also violated Joisey traffic laws at a higher rate than white motorists. In fact, if you correct for the relative percentage of traffic infractions, blacks were NOT pulled over at a higher rate than were whites.

51 Some minor changes in the polling today...

In the presidential race, an old poll dropped out of the RCP average, but the Marist poll and the TIPP tracking poll continue the trend of Trump being down around 10 to Clinton. The current average is Clinton +10.5 over Trump. I do want to note that two polls that are slightly more favorable to Trump (only down 6) are being overwhelmed by the Bloomberg poll showing Clinton up by 18. The Bloomberg poll is clearly an outlier (but the two polls good for Trump probably are too).

In the Senate I was previously giving the Democrats the "half a senator" when dividing the 7 toss up seats by 2. However, there was a lot of good polls for Toomey showing him leading both of his potential rivals by double digits. I expect Cook to move Pennsylvania into the "Leans GOP" group soon. By assuming a GOP hold in PA, and a split of the tossups, that leaves the GOP in control of the Senate 51/49.

In the House another GOP seat was moved into the tossup category, bringing the number of GOP tossup to 15. However, because of rounding it still averages out to a Dem pickup of 12 seats.

All of the assumptions in Congress assume that Trump does not trigger a down ballot blowout. If he did the result would be a Dem pickup of 6 in the Senate and 19 in the House. Not enough to lose the House, but the Senate and Supreme Court would flip.

54 There was a link on Drudge earlier this morning to an auditor for the GAO who testified before congress the other day about the government's insane spending habits.

One thing interesting in his testimony was about how the various government agencies are spending money they don't even have, and are not authorized to spend. He said that last year alone, there was more than $136 billion in unauthorized spending by government agencies.

So every time you hear or read about some insane government give-away program, or some idiotic spending, it may be from one of these agencies that are just writing checks for whatever they feel like spending your money on -- whether they actually have any legal authority for it or not.

But given the blatant lawlessness at the top of this administration, it's no wonder the bureaucrats think anything goes. Nobody in the federal government ever gets punished for anything, no matter how corrupt, incompetent, or even criminal their behavior. We have VA employees ripping off hundreds of thousands of dollars from the VA in housing "re-location" scams, and then getting apologized to and re-instated in their jobs after they're caught red-handed in the act of thievery. It's insane.

It just seems odd that in an election cycle where democrat enthusiasm is down, the pollsters and pundits think that if Trump is leading the ballot, record numbers of republicans are going to vote against Trump and against the republican congressmen and senators.

No where is it shown that Trump would stimulate voting for Hillary, just that republicans are divided. Are all these projections based on half the republican base staying home?

64 "Imagine the outcry if research showed that minority Officers shoot
blacks at a disproportionally higher rate then non-minority Officers do?"

And if those minority officers face lesser punishment, or none at all?

Two case studies:

Officer A enters a deafening mob scene full of hundreds of angry people on the verge of outright riot. Has to deal with an uncuffed, physically resisting suspect (who is later learned to have been high on drugs, breaking parole, and to have a prior history of resisting arrest). Officer A intends to Tase the suspect. By mistake, Officer A pulls and fires the issue sidearm instead of the Taser. Suspect dies.

Officer B has to deal with a grumpy drunken suspect. No mob, no noise, no impending riot. Suspect is safely cuffed and already stowed in the back of a patrol car. But the suspect is kicking up a fuss. Officer B intends to Tase the drunk. By mistake, Officer B pulls and fires the issue sidearm instead of the Taser. Suspect dies.

Officer A was prosecuted for Murder One.

Officer B was sent for "retraining".

You may draw your own conclusions about the ethnicities and genders of Officer A and Officer B.

These are real instances.

I got a problem with the "by mistake bit".

Police have claimed this before. They're supposed to be experts. One guy in Washington State killed a woman during a botched raid on the basis of an informant.

Everyone dummied up and he claimed (blacking out, no recollection, it went off). The woman was rushing from her bedroom to the living room where these assholes were breaking in, because her daughter and her friend were having a sleepover there. The woman and the cop appear to have run into each other in a hallway.

So the woman is dead, the kids were traumatized, the husband was hauled off to jail for days until they realized the informant was a lying POS, and no charges against the cops.

109 No where is it shown that Trump would stimulate voting for Hillary, just that republicans are divided. Are all these projections based on half the republican base staying home?

The Cook projections are assuming a neutral electorate. In other words, Trump might lose handily, but he isn't causing a massive polling increase for the Dems. So you end up with 6 Senate tossups. You also have 4 GOP House seats that are gone this year regardless, 1 Dem seat that is gone regardless, 3 Dem held tossup seats and 15 GOP held tossup seats. The danger isn't that anyone stays home or the Dems get a huge influx. It is that the Dems win all of the tossups. This is what happened in 2006 and 2012. That is how Trump can cause a down ballot blowout, without affecting turnout numbers to a large degree.

Now this same thing could also happen with Cruz and the Trump supporters staying home by a slight margin too. But the mitigating factor for Cruz is that he would (theoretically) be less likely to cause Independents to pull the lever for the down ballot Dem candidate.

I'm sure a lot of that stuff is pre-scripted to prevent non-PC thoughts from escaping into the airwaves but come on.

Do you think for one second that the young lady that came in second would have been slobbering all over the white boy in deference to his loss? She would have been jumping up and down and thanking God, and mama and her fourth grade chorus teacher or maybe just crying and screaming. The first loser would not have even come into her thoughts initially.

It's a good idea as long as it actually does replace welfare programs (I'm not holding my breath, but that's what's proposed). The less structured the transfer payments, the more there's a requirement of personal responsibility for that money.

In a vacuum, academically, yes, I'm opposed to all forms of government welfare. But to make that your position when we live in a world of EBT, Social Security as catch-all, and monthly Medicare expansion is fantasy.

That is a big drawback. If we had a UBI, the temptation would be to bring back other "special" forms of welfare one by one, until we have reconstructed the welfare bureaucracy *on top* of UBI.

The only real answer to this concern is that the same thing that would stop the welfare bureaucracy from re-emerging would be the same thing that stops full-on socialism from emerging in the first place. If the people want socialism, they will get it. If the people want lavish welfare, they will get it. But if the people don't want those things, yet still want some basic welfare for the poor, then UBI is a good alternative.

People are willing to ruin a person's life for a desperate 15 minutes of fame as the next "aggressed" special snowflake. I always think back to that engineer who had to beg forgiveness for wearing a shirt his girlfriend made him of 50's pin up models.

Everything seems so damned backwards. It's like the internet is one big playground, where the bullies are rampant and their friends are cheering them on, because everything goes in a crowd, right?

Things just seem too far gone to ever turn back. I thought about it this morning. What will people eventually do? I imagine people just withdrawing from anything to do with medial, social media, or the like. Just live local, in your community and don't pay attention to this carnival show that is ruining this country. But then they get what they want. People not caring so they can implement any damned progressive policy they want, like amnesty, for starters.

And yet the left, for all it's posing, is the one exploiting them, while we would see them as equals, empowered fellow citizens, despite our (supposedly bigoted) disdain for their culture, such as it is.

Rather than running from a fight against the left's stacked cultural deck, we should hit them right where they think they're strongest. On these exact social issues. Because the only solution is one which allows the urban poor to sustainably create wealth for themselves, real savings which get them out of dependency, and the only way to do that is to buck the left.

Blacks should be our natural allies, not for demographic reasons but for economic ones. We only need to lift the veil a little bit, for a little while, for that to become clear to a small percentage of the black population and break that democrat voting bloc.

What could we do? Who could do it?

289 Rather than running from a fight against the left's stacked cultural deck, we should hit them right where they think they're strongest.

295 Andrew Jackson famously refused to use government money to provide grants to people who had been flooded out. He stated that it was immoral to take one man's tax dollars and give them to another. 296 It's a shame chemjeff had to leave. He would have learned something...

True conservative policy, contrary to what you'll find at the National Review and Federalist, written with a British accent and totally devoid of original thought, is based on the idea of solving problems instead of managing the symptoms.

We don't need a republican way of administering the poverty industry. Solving the core problems takes radical change and bold leadership. That's why there is a Trump movement.

What passes as "conservative" thought today is just warmed over big government policies designed to perpetuate agencies and spending. Whenever true change is brought up, the establishment left and right joins together to destroy whoever dares tamper with status quo.

The people in the NeverTrump movement are too conditioned to the ramblings of career politicians who practice in front of mirrors daily to avoid offending anyone or saying anything controversial. If someone running for office doesn't say the same lies they've heard a thousand times before, they're lost and afraid.

Like liberals, they believe action doesn't matter as long as the rhetoric is correct.

Bedwetting is a hard habit to break. Fear of the unknown and unfamiliar, probably more than anything else, has hampered advancement in every area of human endeavor. Do I wish Trump was a bit less "embarrassing" to people like Ace? Of course. But when the choice is between tinkering around the edges or true change, I'll take the embarrassment and change every time.

Black pastors and Ray Lewis lament blacks killing blacks -- then they all vote Democrat.

Black mayors harangue young black males to act like adults -- then run as Democrats.

White Democrat mayors destroy Black lives in their cities -- then get re-elected by Black voters who scream "Black lives matter!" the minute a Republican approaches.

Maybe the RNC could blow a ton of advertising bucks on a National Republican History Month that coincides with Black History Month. Scream loud and long about things like this:

In other words, the "gender equity" portion isn't even driving the alleged gains!

The balance is the usual SJW tripe: "about 40 percent of the potential can come from higher female participation" and "30 percent can come from narrowing the gap between pt and ft work" and the other "30 percent can come from changing the mix in which women work to increase employment in more productive ones" (yep - someone else will be under the bus soon as well)

Cruz and Kasich fans don't appreciate how repulsive we Trump voters find career politicians who say the same shit as everyone else before them, but never change anything.

When that skating rink in New York was broken for 6 years while the politicians screwed around, Trump stepped in and had it running in 3 months.

340 "However, sources said Austin firefighters provided a crucial tip to police after responding to a small fire involving a backpack and may have recovered some of Weiser's belongings. It is not clear how police may have linked the teen to the fire."

What do you bet his backpack didnt entirely burn up and had his name written on it? LOL

341 "When that skating rink in New York was broken for 6 years while the
politicians screwed around, Trump stepped in and had it running in 3
months."

Of course, he also had disabled Veteran street vendors blocked off from his building, but you know, eggs, omelet and all that.

And supposedly raised 6 million for charity, of which only 2.4 million has been disbursed. Months later.

342 re the unarmed black men getting shot more often:

Is there some chance that unarmed white men are less likely to fight with an armed policemen? I think Saint Mike of Ferguson was a good example of what not to do when encountering an armed policeman.

343 "Police shoot unarmed black men.."
--

The danger in the media's false narrative, is that the msm connjurs up the notion that unarmed means not dangerous.

An "unarmed" person can throw you down and use the sidewalk or curb as a blunt force object to cause injury or death.

A person or persons in a mob can beat someone to death.

The media should be held accountable for the lies they spread.
