Hollywood, California is moving East to Atlanta. That includes all of it's supporting cast of movie and production business.

Atlanta is already indistinguishable from any other filthy-lefty blue city. I predict that Hollywood will destroy it completely within 10 years.

15 Good morning Morons!

No new polls have entered the RCP average, so Trump remains at -10.8% against Clinton. I hesitate to venture to speculate that Cruz could be the nominee, but if he were, he is currently -3.1% against Clinton.

There are no changes in the Cook Report, so the Democrats remain poised to pick up at least 4 Senate and 12 House seats.

One interesting point is the that the one Democrat seat that is a toss up is Nevada. Control of the Senate could very well hinge on the GOP taking that seat.

Oh, and Sharon Angle is planning to run for that seat again. Let that soak in for a moment before giving in to despair.

35 My Sirius XM listening to Fox News has been mostly boring. This morning they are doing memorials for Merle Haggard. I'm not a country fan, so it isn't a draw for me.

Last night was amusing though. Eric Bolling is going through denial and bargaining at the same time. He has been insufferable for months anyway, with his "delegate count math" that refused to account for how delegates are actually selected. So now he has egg on his face trying to explain how Trump might not get to 1237. He and Gillfoil keep hanging their hat on Trump winning New York, and ignoring that Trump winning there has already been priced into the scenarios where Trump comes up short.

Did we ever note the Navy guy who burned himself to death in front of the VA? I'm only just hearing about it...

"Charles Richard Ingram III, a seven-year veteran of the US Navy, committed suicide by self-immolation on March 19 in front of the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Northfield, New Jersey"

From what I'm reading he walked 9 miles to do it - with a gas can? I don't know. There are some articles around on it. I can't tell if he was protesting the care at the VA or something else, but you'd think if he was in care and this suicidal they'd have recognized the danger... but I guess not.

47 Re: Corporate fascism in general, and Paypal in particular. My wife cancelled our Lands End catalogue and lit up the customer service rep. who had the misfortune to answer her call. (She did it b/c LE featured the abortion fan Gloria Steinem in their Easter catalogue.) The rep sounded weary, and worried. She had obviously been taking tons of those calls. IOW, it works. Fight this shit at every turn.
Also, Paypal blows. I have a friend who has a "maker" business, and he has lots of stories about Paypal freezing 10s of thousands of dollars from his customers accounts b/c of perceived violations in their fascist business practices.
Also, Paypal sucks.

56 That WashPost article on the PP video guy's arrest is written by their "Social Change Reporter" - gee, how could you tell?

A spokeswoman for California Attorney General Kamala Harris(D) said she
could not comment on an ongoing investigation. But the raid confirms
that California is among the states looking into possible criminal
activity on the part of Daleiden and his organization, theCenter for
Medical Progress, which have been the center of controversy since
releasing videos purporting to show that Planned Parenthoodillegally
sells fetal tissue for a profit.

Uh, no, PP was at the center of the controversy....because *admitted to* selling fetal tissue, and illegally modifying the abortion procedures used to best recover the requested organs.

61 In the "reminiscing about our misspent youth" category,

Zippy has an article about the reach out program in North Charleston trying to control gang violence.

One of the areas mentioned is Remount Road.

Many many years ago, in a former life, every Navy ships Engineers basically had a bar in the Charleston area which was "Their" Bar.

And when the ship was in home port, that was almost like home for many of the single Sailors in the Engineering Department.

Our was the Corner Bar, in the back if the little strip mall on the NE corner of Rivers and Remount roads.

It's long been torn down, and replaced by a huge gas station.

But those were some good times.

Except for the time I walked out the door, and some guy with a shotgun put the muzzle against my forehead because of something someone else did. And we both stood like that till the Cops showed up.

But for the most part......good times.

Far too many moments when one feels like they're living in the Twilight Zone, such as the PP situation, or all of this gender fluid stuff, etc. Can't end well.

109 Mark Levin has been a one man wrecking ball for Trump (as have been some other people). He's gone to the point of making the analogy several times that Trump is Herbert Hoover. Oh yeah and that any attempt at imposing some type of tariff will destroy the American economy (without, by the way evaluating the current state of bilateral tariffs and the room for changes).

In other words, Trump's the anti-Christ and the world will end if he's elected. He's implied on numerous occasions that The Hag may be a better choice (as have some around here).

But now he's saying if Trump's the choice we should all vote for him??

After he's spent months destroying him?

*BLINK*

So the narrative if Trump loses will be he was never a good candidate and "see, I told you he couldn't win"??

You want to know why Republicans lose? Exhibit #1 is the Dishonest Clown Prince.

I'm so sick of the dishonesty.

111 47 Re: Corporate fascism in general, and Paypal in particular. My wife cancelled our Lands End catalogue and lit up the customer service rep. who had the misfortune to answer her call. Fight this shit at every turn.

Posted by: Brave Sir Robin at April 07, 2016 08:32 AM (SeD0w)

Land's End is a Wisconsin based company. There was a big story in the local paper about just how badly they screwed themselves with that Gloria Steinem catalog. It's almost a textbook case of bad marketing.

Land's End does not market trendy fashions. It's the Midwestern version of LL Bean. Trying to market trendy lib values to a customer base that just wants to buy winter jackets and boots was a huge mistake.

Land's End might have gotten the idea from another Wisconsin company, Penzey's Spices, whose owner is a full-blown moonbat who has taken to inserting his stupid politics into their catalog.

I recommend buying spice mixes from The Spice House, which is owned by Penzey's sister. (I have it on good faith that she is conservative and is not on speaking terms with her brother - but she does not mix politics with business). many of the same blends are available from The Spice House without the noxious politics.

Merle wasn't exactly played in my households in Chicago, Oakland, or Aiea, so unless he ever sang under the Motown label, which I'm pretty sure he didn't, I didn't listen to his music growing up.

They made this stupid move because 1 year ago they hired an Italian gal, Federica Marchionni,as their CEO. Her past work included being senior vice president at Ferrari and president of Dolce and Gabbana USA.

In other words, the opposite of mid-Western values. I'm sure the Gloria Steinhem gaffe happened because Federica has no clue that people outside of her NYC fashion clique might actually not idolize Steinhem. Also because being part of the coastal elites, it seemed natural to inject hella politics into her company's brand, despite mots normal people finding this tiresome and intrusive when you just want to find a down jacket for your kid, or a pretty scarf for your mother.

The Spice House has an outlet in the Public Market in Milwaukee. When I was there buying spices a few months ago, I mentioned to the guy behind the counter that I didn't appreciate Bill Penzey's preaching and decided to buy from SH from now on.

He smiled and said, "A lot of people have told us that."

165 PP is a symptom. The Democrat Party gives them public money and they, in turn, give money to the Democrats for elections. Same principle as public employee unions. One more desperate problem that can only be solved by amending the Constitution to end public employee unions and government funds to "charities".

Personally, I'd favor the "hookers and blow" suggestion, but in case creeper wants a real suggestion:

Land. Find a nice, isolated spot and build a little house (or find an isolated spot with a house already there). Pare things down there - no phone (no light, no morotcar. . .), no internet. Just a well-stocked kitchen, bar and library, with plenty of room on the porch to rock and watch the world go by.

The older I get, the more I want to completely withdraw from the world and be alone. I would think that, creeper, if the constant drumbeat of bad news is affecting you (as it does so many of us), a quiet place of retreat to shut out the world would be the best use of your money.

Oh, and guns. Be Prepared.

You can find the whole debate posted on Steyn's website.

It's been noted here before, but the highlight of the debate was when Steyn ripped Schama a new one for making light of gang rape in Europe. I'll bet Schama wet himself a little. I would never want to face an angry Mark Steyn in a debate.

I knew Schama was a lib, but he still disappointed me. I've read and liked several of his books. I didn't know he was such a condescending little twit. At the end, he read Donne's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" as a plea for letting the West be overrun by barbarians. That was his argument basically - Emma Lazarus, and for the children, and no man is an island. Just emotion. And he's a famous "intellectual."

As you can imagine, it's hard to get the numbers, given all the laws prohibiting reporting of criminals' and drunk drivers' "immigration status," not to mention the MSM's determination never to report on an illegal alien criminal's true status. But he estimates, based on what he was able to find, that around 7,500 Americans are killed by illegal aliens . . . every year.

241 PayPal cancels plans based on NC bathroom law

As I pointed out last night, the issue is not constrained to bathrooms, but extends to shower rooms, changing rooms, etc.

NC HB2 was a reaction to the Charlotte City ordinance which would have compelled private companies to make all such facilities open.

It cannot be repeated too often that under HB2 if a company wishes to do so, they are free to do so.

Ironically, PayPal pulled out of... Charlotte. Way to show solidarity, eh?

Living in a sanctuary city, can tell you that the city actively hides that type of information with the media's assistance.

There a "tells" such as when they mention a criminal with a Spanish name and that he is a current resident of X county (cue footage of gang tattoo covered gang member being led by police). Oh, OK, how long has he lived there? And that's when they even provide a name, instead of just saying, "an X county resident was arrested for doing..."

250 Horses are said to be more efficient converters of forage, more efficient than cows.

Cattle are more efficient due to their rumen - they chew their cud like goats. The rumen is a pre-stomach that allows bacteria to convert straw and lower protein feed into usable calories.
Horses don't have this, though they do have some secondary digestion in the intestines. But a lot of the edible stuff goes right through them
I am told that a horse can starve eating nothing but straw, but oxen do fine.

Historically oxen were the real traction animals, horses were considered too delicate and had to be fed higher quality food. They are just way faster, and when rigged right, that is not used on either straps around the neck or with a yoke that presses on the windpipe, they can carry or pull quite a lot.

300 @250 Verily, horse vs ox is worthy of a long argument. Longbow/crossbow.

Lot of things I could say, but I'll wait until we get something stirred up. But here's one thing: at Williamsburg, where they do their portrayal acting real well and everybody you bump into on the street is an actual authority on the person they're dressed like, the guy plowing with an ox told me that any bovine used to do work is technically an ox. The woman plowing a garden plot with the milk-cow (that's "Milch-cow" in 18th cent.) was a national meme image of "the girl I left behind me," women holding hearth and home together as their husbands were off gallivantin' in the Revolution. Or the French'n'Injun, to be bipartisan.

I still have secunt-cousins back in Conn. who "pull bulls" (bullocks, you know), and I'd never heard that an ox was anything but a grown-up bullock. Put a yoke (or a Mongo-saddle) on a bull, a steer, or a cow, and it's instantly an ox.

Already tooled up for two of those, studying on the third, but I don't think a brothel is an option at this point.

And regarding the point about small change in the post-whatever scenario, I have been saving nickels and old all-copper pennies for years .... the metals actually are more-or-less worth face value.

I voted for Mikey Castle (Smartest man in Delaware) in the 2010 Senate Primary. I was a good little boy, and did what my Betters told me to do. I then watched my Betters screw over the winner.

We all watched the GOP screw over primaries in AK, MS and KS.

I don't care to try and compare 2016 to 2016 or '08 or any other year. One could make the argument that loyalty to the Republican Party has gotten one exactly nothing.

So why keep being loyal? That' my position. I owe them nothing. If they do something I want them to do, I'll vote for their candidates. If not, I won't.

I think there are millions of people who feel the same as I do, and maybe millions who don't. Probably one of the fundamental disagreements that happens around here is due to this.

318 This year is far worse than 2012.

The GOP had a clown car of people saying the same shit. And Trump...of all people.... gained traction. They had over a dozen people, several of whom were up there for no apparent reason, clutter the place up, blundered into one MFM shitshow after another, setting the stage for a self funding blowhard that made sense when he smacked around George Snuffalupagus for being a Clinton creature/donor/impartial reporter for the opposition.

The only times the GOP made any sign of life? After Trump ran his big mouth.

Trump was an enema to the colon of the GOP.

And even that's petered out.

Posted by: Buckeye Abroad at April 07, 2016 08:44 AM (E8UjU)

As shown in Louisiana, Tennessee and other places, Trump doesn't even have Trump's delegates sown up... because in the end, they are not Trump's delegates (or Rubio's or Kasich's) to move like chess pieces. They belong to the local and district party committee's that will select them and are sending them to Cleveland (where they must follow state party rules which mostly release them to vote however they want on the 2nd or 3rd ballot).

With over 60% of the actual Republican party not liking Trump (not counting the Dems that voted for him in open primaries), it is unlikely that Trump friendly delegates are going to be sent in quantities sufficient to elect Trump on a second ballot (or any subsequent ballot).

I'm no particular fan of Romney. I never thought he was a good candidate. To wit- who picks a Blue-State Republican that authored the original Obamacare proposal which was one of the big issues?

*BLINK*

Right there people should have said WTF are you doing?

But my original point is at least be honest from the beginning. There are a lot of Republicans who just sit by, throw darts, do all they can to destroy the candidate, don't vote and then lament how that candidate sucks.

Hey, F-them if they don't think I've noticed how disingenuous they are.

You don't win with people like that on your side. If it isn't patently obvious by now. 392 I'm wondering about this delegate thing and how individuals might vote when released...

The currency of politics is patronage. Anyone who has been in politics for awhile or who relies on the party for their support has a list of people as long as their arm who expect to be paid off with a job.

These folks range from the kid who drove the van in Iowa (Assistant Secretary of Commerce to Vietnam) to contributors (Special Advisor to the Budget Director) to party apparatchiks.

Trump has the advantage of having a very short list, so each potential Trump delegate has a better chance at a great position. Open bidding will be the order of the day.

It would be crazy for some Idaho delegate to vote the way the party is telling him (or her) when going with Trump could get them an Under Secretary position.

Human nature. You've got a better chance of defying gravity as you do changing human nature.

She keeps whining about that in interview after interview.

Really, really grates that she plays the victim - "Poor me, my male colleague didn't stand up for me!" - while simultaneously claiming she's a brave female warrior who was up for the challenge of sparring with Trump.

Such a classic feminist move, claiming both victimhood AND fearlessness, courage. Really have lost a lot of respect for Kelly with this obvious (but very effective) ploy to get mainstream and feminist support. She'll be on another channel within a year.

As if this party has never done that...Ever.

The necessary and sufficient conditions for you being right are that the party is better than it is, and/or that the mechanism for changing rules is such that radical changes CANNOT occur.

The conditions for others being right is that the party behaves exactly as it has for more than six years now and that those mechanisms can be gamed.

And you're also hiding behind Trump. Cruz has started to make these comments. What reason does he have to say anything similar to trump? Arguably, he should now be saying the opposite of whatever comes out of his mouth.

Absolutely. Only the team jerseys will change. The Deep State, the unelected bureaucracy and the monied will still rule for their own comfort. The power of the federal leviathan will never be cut back and will continue to be hijacked for the express purpose of redefining and curtailing the concept of "liberty" to the ability to wave a flag and cook a hamburger on the Fourth of July.

We are badly in need of a Reign of Terror. Or, as J.J. likes to say, our own Pinochet.

424 >>People should worry more about supporting their own Republican Candidates and less on tearing down the Other Republican Candidates and calling them names. Short sighted to say the least

Yea, we should be more like the Democrats who currently are watching their two candidates insist the other isn't even qualified to be president. Now that's unifying!

Seriously, this shit goes on every single primary and has since the Republic was founded. We aren't even close to some of the worst stuff said and done in previous primaries this cycle but every single primary some people insist this is the worst one ever and they will sit out if their particular candidate doesn't get the nod over the other RINO, scumbag, unworthy, blah, blah, blah because only their candidate is the true one and if you don't agree you are stupid and blind.

The fact that we now have 7x24 cable and blogs that are also open 7x24 where we can insult the candidates, each other the weather or what ever else we want to complain about may make it seem worse but it isn't. Not even close.

I think Trump is a dishonest assclown mostly because he is and always has been a dishonest assclown. Some feel different. So we argue about it.

At the end of the day I will make my decision as to what to do about my vote and it won't be influenced by arguments here or anywhere else. I suspect this is true for just about everyone regardless of what is said here.

433 404 The only enthusiasm I have now is when I think of stopping Hillary in November. Beyond that, nah. Oh, I favor Cruz for the general, and I voted for him in my primary.
Is anyone else here experiencing this general feeling of, I dunno, futility, with this election? Serious question.

Yet another voice saying that a brokered convention is possible, remotely so.

But according to current rules, this is an impossibility.

Posted by: Blue Hen at April 07, 2016 10:45 AM (326rv)

The rules can be suspended but it would take the votes of 2/3rds of the delegates... I don't see that happening even if it is theoretically possible.

435 From the sidebar...how could diabetes QUADRUPLE in 20 years? That seems like a medical panic with some degree of over-diagnosis.>>>

Between fat kids and people living 20 years longer than they used to. It may be a real number. My father started taking insulin when he was 84 his dad died at 65.
Posted by: Buzzsaw at April 07, 2016 10:29 AM (tf9Ne)

I have no doubt this is the case. I'ts not so much overdiagnosis, as it is today's lifestyle. Go back and look at photos of the general population say 30 years ago and look at today. Obesity and sedentary lifestyle is the biggest factors, IMO, as opposed to simply saying that we eat more carbs. We eat MORE as a general rule, which contributes to piling on fat, which contributes to many of the ills we experience today.

Well if you get stuck in an infinite loop and stalemate, rules will be modified.

Posted by: SH

Combine these.

No one came in the door with 1237.

No one has been able to get 1237 after (whatever) number of rounds.

The delegates are realizing that every nasty thing said about Cleveland is true+riots+summer.

Room service can suck.

And then........'a motion to unify our party' (and to get the Hell out of Cleveland)

True story: The college of Cardinals convene and sequester themselves to elect the new Pope.

On at least one occaison, people started sending in crappy food, in the hopes that they would get on with things and produce a result.

I don't either. I see the delegates coalescing around either Trump or Cruz (and more likely Cruz - unless Trump is only a few votes shy). But if neither side can close the deal after a few ballots (again something I would find unlikely), then I could see the delegates look to someone else. Someone like a Walker. I doubt they would look to Ryan, because despite what people think, the delegates actually control the process not the GOPe. They could suspend the rules and vote in someone like a Walker just to move the convention along (or to close it out).

Exactly. Its possible, if not probable. But we'd be in unchartered territory at least for most delegates. Either Trump will prove to be a great negotiator, or Cruz will prove to be a superior politician. One of those should be able to cobble up a majority.

441 hey could suspend the rules and vote in someone like a Walker just to move the convention along (or to close it out).
Posted by: SH

But for that to happen, the front runner would need to be hindered as much as possible.

Supporting the guy in second would help, but...if we were to half-ass it, then he couldn't seal the deal or even close either.

And if we were to prop up a son of a mailman (work with me; it's not as zany as it sounds. he's from Ohio) then there's another block off elsewheres.

Hmmmmmm.. What to do about the remaining delegates? If we were to promise something on K Street to the drop out with over 100 delegates, we could keep them snarled.

And let the delegates vote their brains out for two or three days.

442 But for that to happen, the front runner would need to be hindered as much as possible.

Again, I don't think it is likely that we would reach that point, but it is within the realm of possibility. At some point if there is just a deadlock, you have to look for some solution. Would that be Kasich - I doubt it. Ryan - probably not (why would he even want it). Walker - he could prove acceptable to most of the delegates.

My real point though is that most of the delegates are rank and file guys and not really GOPe. Some are to be sure. But the GOPe will have less influence than both Trump and Cruz. Either of whom could likely play kingmaker - though it may mean making someone else king.

1. Trump has shown his true colors. He's used to getting important people to deal with him. He's used to lower class people being happy to meet him. That doesn't lend itself well to gaining the necessary influence over delegates from 50 state organizations and the territories.
2. The GOP openly attacked him, and has continued to do so. This has two likely effects;
A. people who didn't decide to go for him aren't likely to change their vote to him.
B. People who did are feeling more and more like they are in a fight and less likely to change.
3. Cruz is still viable, and he has better political skills.
But the Party has shown great antipathy toward him, and has passed on several opportunities to promote him as the 'nottrump'.

All of this gives strength to the campaign of Someone Else, from the great state of WhoinHell knows.

Depends on who you mean by the party? The voters have shown him love if not that most love. Though he seems to be for many Trump fans a plausible (and perhaps their only) second choice. The DC party representatives do not like them, but as I have argued, they will not control the convention.

So far from what we have heard about Cruz and his delegate hunting - he is well organized and understands the rules better than anyone. And he may be the closest to those local party activists who will actually be delegates. Its why I think if it gets to a contested convention, Cruz would be the favorite.

I just leave open the possibility of another result.

448 The Trump fans won't like this but if (and when) this gets to a contested convention - how will Cruz be denied the nomination when George Bush comes out to support him - which I suspect he would. NR is fully on board. Part of the Bush family is involved. Its only a matter of time before W says Cruz should be the nominee. Frankly, I find it hard to believe that many delegates (other than those who may be pledged to Trump) do not like W. Whether you like his policies or not, or think he is all that wrong with GOP, most GOP activists like and respect the man.

Unless Trump gets to a majority, I think it is all but over and Cruz will be the nominee.
