Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Judge Rules that "Jackie" Can Be Deposed in Rolling Stone Defamation LawsuitNicole Eramo was portrayed in Sabrina Rubin Erdely's article as being callous and unresponsive to "Jackie's" need for help, following a gang rape perpetrated by as many as zero fraternity brothers. Eramo is suing Erdely and Rolling Stone for this false portrayal, and alleges that "Jackie's" story should have been seen as nonsense by any reputable journalist or magazine. "Jackie" alleged that if she were deposed, she could experience traumatic flashbacks to the events which did not occur. These non-memories could cause a lasting psychological harm sometimes termed "Non-Traumatic Stress Disorder." A judge has ruled that, despite the danger from NTSD, "Jackie" will have to answer questions nevertheless. "Jackie's" lawyer put out a press release saying "This is like not raping my client all over again." The statement said that Hoax Rape Survivors, like "Jackie," have traumatic flashbacks every single night they're not raped -- which is most of them. But note, as Jazz Shaw does, that the transcripts of the deposition will be sealed, so we'll never see them, unless, I guess, they're presented in court. And also note that Eramo's ability to probe into the non-events which did not cause harm to "Jackie's" psyche during this imaginary outrage will be restricted, probably, and "Jackie" will probably mostly be asked about "Jackie's" own refusal to give Eramo a full accounting of the the events which did not happen on the night upon which virtually nothing at all occurred.Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

"'Jackie' alleged that if she were deposed, she could experience
traumatic flashbacks to the events which did not occur. These non-memories could cause a lasting psychological harm sometimes termed 'Non-Traumatic Stress Disorder.'" Nidal Hasan's defense team tried to excuse away his jihadi shooting rampage, which Hasan himself repeatedly said was jihad, by proposing that Hasan suffered from traumatic stress via his Army service. It was then pointed out that Hasan had never actually deployed and wouldn't have experienced any such stress. The defense really did then tentatively start to suggest that traumatic stress disorder is somehow _transmissible_, and that Hasan had gotten it from soldiers around him who actually had deployed to combat zones. Yep. It's the "I musta caught the clap from a dirty toilet seat" excuse. Posted by: torquewrench at April 05, 2016 08:14 PM (noWW6) 9

Raping a woman is an evil, brutal act that should be punished swiftly and brutally. I'm fine with the death penalty for a serial rapist.
But a woman that falsely accuses a man of rape or molesting children? That man's life is destroyed. His reputation is obliterated. His career is doomed. Nobody looks at them the same, ever again. That should carry a huge penalty as well. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at April 05, 2016 08:19 PM (39g3+) Posted by: eman at April 05, 2016 08:20 PM (MQEz6) 32

June the 4th, 1973, was much like any other summer's day in Peterborough, and Ralph Melish, a file clerk at an insurance company, was on his way to work as usual when... (da dum!) Nothing happened! (dum dum da dum) Scarcely able to believe his eyes, Ralph Melish looked down. But one glance confirmed his suspicions. Behind a bush, on the side of the road, there was *no* severed arm. No dismembered trunk of a man in his late fifties. No head in a bag. Nothing. Not a sausage. For Ralph Melish, this was *not* to be the start of any trail of events which would not, in no time at all, involve him in neither a tangled knot of suspicion, nor any web of lies, which would, had he been not uninvolved, surely have led him to no other place, than the central criminal court of the Old Bailey.
Enid, a sharp-eyed, clever young girl, who had been with the firm for only 4 weeks, couldn't help noticing the complete absence of tiny but tell-tale blood stains on Mr. Melish's clothing. Nor did she notice anything strange in Mr. Melish's behaviour that whole morning. Nor the next morning. Nor at any time before or since the entire period she worked for that firm. But for the lack of any untoward circumstances for this young secretary to notice, and the total non-involvement of Mr. Melish in anything illegal, the full weight of the law would have insured that Ralph Auldus Melish would have ended up like all who challenge the fundamental laws of our society. In an iron coffin with spikes on the inside. Posted by: Grump928(C) says Free Soothie! at April 05, 2016 08:27 PM (rwI+c) 59

Back when I was a DA, a woman reported she was kidnapped at gun point and raped by her ex. I approved the arrest warrant, he was arrested and sat in jail for the next six months. She testified under oath at preliminary hearing and he was bound over. Then the DNA results came back. It wasn't him. We confronted her. She admitted she lied because they had a custody hearing coming up and she felt if he failed to appear because he was in jail it would accrue to her advantage.

Split the eights. First card is a 3. Double down and draw to 20. Draw to 19 on second hand. Dealer flips and shows face card. Classic bust hand. Guess what the first card out of the shoe was. Yeah, a 5 giving the dealer 21. $600 gone. Fred the dealer says, hey you played that perfectly. I know Fred, doesn't make me feel any better.

No, Peaches, it didn't suck. I give it a B or maybe a B+. Good popcorn movie if a little long. They tried to do one and a half movies and probably lost a few people.
The titular battle was WAY better than the final one. The villains sucked. People were saying they did well with Wonder Woman, but they *still* underplayed her. They did okay, but you barely got to see her character develop, though the actress definitely had a sense of the character. Arby's management was greatly embarrassed by their arrogant story-telling during the Sandra Fluke affair. Story went around that they had pulled all their ads from Rush because of the "slut" call, then, a cover story, there is no national ad buy for Rush. Then, no they didn't, then, yes they did. They talked themselves into a hole, trying to suck down to a constituency, and didn't think it worth their trouble to talk themselves out of it to get us nasty gun-toters back. So, I seldom go to one.
Also for some reason their beef is "bad for my digestion." And I'm a beefeater. Arby's discussions on this thread, then, are not at all O/T. Posted by: Stringer Davis at April 05, 2016 09:26 PM (xq1UY) 229

Attorney rape is worse than Moby Dick rape...

I think movie reviews *in general*, whether professional or amateur, are worse than ever.
The reviewers as aggregated on RottenTomatoes are more recommending movies that they want YOU to see, or think it's dangerous for YOU to see; they do not rate movies for merit as filmmaking, anymore. The generally-favourable marks for "Fahrenheit 911" started to tip me off. The raves for that horrible pile of smug "Wall-E" were another case in point. "13 Hours" got 55ish% where it should have got 85. "London Has Fallen" was panned and it was almost excellent. Posted by: boulder terlit hobo at April 05, 2016 09:28 PM (6FqZa) 237

I don't know if reviews are all gamed or anything, because I also disagree with a lot of random commenters on movies.
There seems to be a general "it sucks" response for everything. I think a lot of people should stop going to the movies, since everything seems to suck so badly. I mean, if you hate doing something, stop doing it. Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith at April 05, 2016 09:31 PM (wB8Tg) 243
Modern films are made to be so overwhelmingly spectacular and assault your senses so powerfully that you stagger out thinking they were great, but later on upon reflection realize they weren't that hot. J.J. Abrams has made a career of that.

To be fair, a lot of them do suck. Ant Man was pretty bad, for example, even though a lot of people played it up. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at April 05, 2016 09:34 PM (39g3+) 245

Best night I ever had was at Caesar's Palace in 04. Sat down at a $25 table with $500. Walked away with $12k. Worst hand of my life though. $200 bet, eights, and the dealer showing 6.

There were quite a few good bits in Ant Man, and some amazing sequences but overall the story was so full of holes, contradictions, and such a horrible, hammy villain it was just disappointing.
Still, points for playing The Cure's "disintegration" in any film. Great song, great album. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at April 05, 2016 09:40 PM (39g3+) 250
