Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Obama: Little Difference Between Capitalism and Communism; Largely Just an "Intellectual Argument;" People Shouldn't Worry If Something "Fits Into Socialist Theory," Should Just Choose "What Works"I usually don't link InfoWars but they have the video and Obama says what they say he says. "Those are interesting intellectual arguments, but I think for your generation, you should be practical and just choose from what works. You don't have to worry about whether it really fits into socialist theory or capitalist theory. You should just decide what works," he added. Obama went on to praise Cuba’s socialist system under dictator Raúl Castro, touting the country’s free access to basic education and health care, although he acknowledged that Havana itself "looks like it did in the 1950s" because the economy is "not working".It's at Real Clear Politics, too, if you prefer. You want to see the difference between communism and capitalism, go to Hong Kong. Mainland Chinese flock to Hong Kong daily to get basic things like baby formula and diapers.
Same Chinese cultural background, one had free market (to a point) capitalism injected into it and the other wallowed in communism. The differences are striking and literally right next door to each other. Posted by: JackStraw at March 25, 2016 03:13 PM (/tuJf) 36
I mean, I can understand that JEF doesn't seem to understand that "Capitalism" is not a political structure but a purely economic one ("Libertarian" would be, more or less, a political structure built on Capitalism) whereas Communism is a political/social/economic structure that governs everything.
Lots of people don't understand the difference. But "just pick what works"? Where, dear leader, has Communism ever "worked", unless you define "worked" as "created multi-generational misery wherever its been tried"? Posted by: DocJ at March 25, 2016 03:14 PM (5Nr9V) 37

That's why Bernie has traction with the youngsters. America is already mostly a soft socialist country anyways. We don't really practice true free market capitalism anyway and our social welfare programs are gargantuan and growing by the day. Bottom line, America will go from its current soft socialism to hard socialism within the next 15 years once we've been sufficiently swamped by 3rd world immigrants, which we are importing by the millions both legally and illegally. This is one of the big lies that the left always sells, the notion that they are not ideologues but only interested in what works. Except that when their ideas fail, the answer is never, "Socialism doesn't work," the answer is, "There wasn't enough socialism, so we need more."
Posted by: Ghost of Lee Atwater at March 25, 2016 03:18 PM (JxMoP) 67
if its just straight pragmatism, obviously Capitalism is your choice, no matter what evidence you provide. The big knock on capitalism is that its heartless, soulless, and cruel. Which it is, often. But it works as an economic system, which Communism does not. All Communism does is offer good feels and tries to solve human misery through economics and politics, and fails. Its a disaster as an economic system.
But all this is, is an attempt to normalize communism/socialism so it just sounds like another option rather than the mass murdering catastrophic failure that it historically has proven to be Posted by: Christopher Taylor at March 25, 2016 03:18 PM (39g3+) 68
Empty shelves. Inferior products. Subsistence living, generation after generation. That's socialism. Assuming you don't wind up with purges, mass graves, and deaths of millions upon millions of people who were in the way.
The big happy-face of socialism, they say, is 'democratic socialism.' This is merely socialism that leeches wealth off the back of capitalism to have enough money to fund its schemes. Rather than a plunge straight to the bottom, it is a gradual deflation of spirit, innovation, culture, and vitality as people become dumbed by central planning and bread and circuses and the welfare state. See western Europe. Posted by: Kasich the Barbarian, Son of Mailman at March 25, 2016 03:18 PM (uyrlv) 69

Forget theory, let's look at how they work in practice. Socialism doesn't work in practice without stealing money from the capitalists anywhere it's been tried and is not self-sustaining. Capitalism works excellently in practice the purer it's form is and the less socialist regulation that exists in the economic environment . Theory, it's all Obama's whole world is made up of. Hillary brokered the democrat convention before it even got out of the chute. She killed direct democracy in its crib on her side--even the Reddit kids get this. Republicans have every right to give a better option than Cruz or Trump. Ace you did not come to either of those choices via your better angels. Written in 1960, it explains the Great Leap Forward that Fidel and his communists have in mind for Cuba. The factories, the foundries, the workers housing, etc. Why, it's going to be a veritable worker's paradise. It will all be put in place by Soviet bloc benefactors.
Didn't work out... but the arrogance and presumption of the Cuban commies is astounding. Posted by: Exodus of Alumni support at March 25, 2016 03:42 PM (9mTYi) Posted by: Dude what wipes barehanded at March 25, 2016 03:42 PM (ptqRm) 212

Posted by: Satan of Blutwurst Vt at March 25, 2016 03:28 PM (qSIlh) In a perfect world we'd be able to ask patients how they voted. If you voted for this current mess - the bureaucracy, the endless rules and the electronic medical records mess, then when you call and ask for an urgent visit we tell you (the truth) our next available appointment is in 8-12 weeks. So go to the ER and incur a $2,000 bill walking in the door if you can't wait that long. And most of the time the ER doc just makes sure you're not knocking at death's door but does nothing to fix your current problem. I don't know why, but they won't even titrate heart failure or BP medications a little bit to buy you some relief until you get into your primary team. However, if you did not vote for this mess - then I'll still add you on in my lunch hour or before clinic begins or at the end of the day in my clinic. I'll do my damnedest to get you an answer and some improvement in your symptoms just like I've always done. It's absolutely fair - you get what you voted for. You voted for bureaucracy, for the destruction of entire private practices, for Obamacare and the nonsense that implies, then you get exactly what (you weren't probably smart enough to know) you asked for. You didn't, then we'll try to still care for you the way that we used to. Of course, if I did that , I would be publicly destroyed, sued and shot, and probably not in that order. Well its been said before, but half the world is dumber than average intelligence. That's not exactly accurate, statistically speaking but it makes the point: there are a lot of idiots out there.
And what President Obama did is give these people the idea that they not only should have a voice, but that they should exercise it. Before they expressed their stupidity by staying home and doing nothing while whining about how lousy everything was. Now they go out and vote and whine about how lousy everything is. Will Hillary be able to corral this block of stupid selfish wastes of space to vote for her, too? I dunno. Maybe Obama woke them up and they're here to stay, maybe it takes his gift of rabble rousing and reaching out to them to get them to show up, and maybe the Democrats have learned the secret and will keep using it for the time being. "Post-Reagan complacency."
The establishment GOP certainly weren't complacent during the Reagan years. They forced Reagan in 1980 to accept one of the establishment's born-and-bred regulars as vice president. They weaseled a few establishment GOP figures into Reagan's cabinet. And then they just waited the old man out. As soon as he left for good, they struck. I mentioned the other day a note from Dr. Jerry Pournelle about what things felt like in late January of 1989. He had previously had extensive conservative contacts all through the Reagan White House, with whom he had been working on matters including ballistic missile defense. As soon as Poppy Bush was sworn in? The mass purge of conservatives began within hours. Essentially everyone Pournelle knew was sacked, replaced by members of what he referred to as "the country club set". Posted by: torquewrench at March 25, 2016 04:14 PM (noWW6) 341

I tired of this all being complicated. Here's my platform.
1. The Constitution is the law. 2. Any government anything without explicit authorization in the Constitution is hereby closed. Appropriate all you want Congress. The Executive gets to fire people without asking your permission. Let the money sit there and then go explain it to your constituents why you appropriated a bunch of cash from them for nothing. 3. If you don't like what the Constitution says, there are ways to alter it. Go for it. Any alteration that does not follow what is defined in the Constitution is hereby declared invalid by Executive Order. Go ahead. Round up the votes to reinstate it all and overcome my veto. 4. If you don't want to live under Constitutional law, I respect your decision. Pick somewhere else to live that better suits you or go to jail for breaking the law. Vote for Damiano. Sadly, these terms now seem terribly old fashioned and almost crude among the Muck-a-Mucks which incredibly includes this president.
