Five days in a row with nothing exciting enough to even write about. Weather fair - occasional light showers. A liberal sprinkling of 170's is connected with the atmosphere. Had one land fairly close - a few fragments lit around, but nothing very scary. Some indication that Gerry has something "in the air", though nothing definite yet.
Had my first "Cub" ride along the front the 25th. Very quiet. A 155 shell came buzzing very close to the plane to add to the interest.
More about the observation plane in the coming weeks.

I'm not surprised that someone at HA is a little bit timid about supporting such a thing. I would make two notes, however:
1- The very fact that businesses, including the NFL, are threatening Georgia is evidence that this law must be passed and vigorously defended. The People of Georgia (as represented by their legislature and Governor) do not answer to the NFL.
2- The part where the author claimed that a religious organization being able to fire someone who does not share their beliefs (rough quote) "goes beyond defending your religious liberty and into discriminating against someone else's" is just stupid.
As an employer, I do not owe anyone employment. If one of my criteria for hiring/retaining an employee is that they are of the same religion as I, that's my business. Your "religious liberty" does not, in fact, include any "right to be employed."

I owe Moron Nation a huge thanks. To reprise: someone had "Alabama" as
part of their nic, and I mentioned I was taking my family there on
spring break. Someone asked where we were going, and I told them Dauphin
Island. There was a reply about the USS Alabama, docked in Mobile Bay.
We worked a day trip in on our return drive, and it was truly
incredible. Toured the restored battleship, and as a bonus, toured the
USS Drum, a WWII era submarine, also restored. There were volunteer
docents all over both ships, and they added a ton of depth to the tour.
Amazing what America is (was?) capable of.

I was aboard Missouri at Christmastime, and they couldn't do enough for you. Except for the most crowded days, there's no need to pay for the special guided tour, as you'll get one anyway if you exhibit the least special interest in any one aspect. And they're whip-smart, too, a nice mixture of mil-history academics and real salty sailors. Eager to please and show off the boat.
Only complaint, to get to the engine room you have to pre-arrange, certain dates only, hefty extra fee. Understandable security precaution, though: can't have just anybody touching off numbers one through four and making ready for sea (happens in every movie).
Thing of the day to see was, Japanese-speaking docent with a small group of suitably serious and reverent Japanese tourists, doing a longish lecture immediately adjacent to The Surrender. You always hear about scads of them grinning and doing selfies on the Arizona bridge. This did not look like that at all.

Don't know about the hooker part, but Cuban cigars simply aren't worth it. Last one I had, a Cohiba Esplendido up in Toronto (and yes, it was real...) was just not as enjoyable as the La Aurora Preferidos that are in my humidor.

I think if you have mild misalignment, his approach would work. I had one tooth in completely backwards, and a jaw problem that required surgery and other appliances besides braces to fix. Sometimes teeth have to be removed to make room for the others.

This is why I hate the modern world. You take a perfectly respectable concept, like clinical depression, and you fancy it up with newfangled symptoms.
The way I figure it, any form of mental illness, the drive to get it out there in the public eye has one of two purposes: some new drug on the market (legal or otherwise) needs a client base. Or, some new employment benefit/disability needs to be defined/funded/supported by people who actually, you know, work.

Is that a fact? Because as far as I can make out we don't live in one. We have de facto 50% taxation, a shit job market, QE, a predatory education system, and have become a renter's society instead of an owner's society.
People in their late 20s and early 30s aren't having kids for financial reasons. The game has been rigged by the left.
A friend of mine is a service member and is going to grad school in DC starting next year. After some research they're looking to buy a small lot and build one of those prefab homes on it. It makes sense by the numbers, it's hundreds of thousands of dollars cheaper than buying a real house. But this is an intelligent, highly motivated soldier who's gonna be living in a fucking house made of shipping containers instead of a home. This generation has been priced out of the lifestyle they grew up with.
The American dream was killed right in front of you and you want to blame the people tasked with cutting up and hauling off the corpse.

You won't wait long. At 40-45%, Trump supporters are a minority in the GOP, which makes them (you) a small but significantminority in the party as a whole. Cruz, on the other hand,consistently beats Hillary in head-to-head matchups. The reason why your guy does so well in the primaries is because his many competitors have been going after each other since they're seeking the same voter base, the not-Trump voters.
Right now, for example, Kasich is bleeding votes from Cruz, not Trump. You know this. Don't know why you're saying it's squaring the circle since the rationale is straightforward enough.
As an aside, I won't berubbing it in and saying 'I told you so' if your guy wins the nomination and then loses to Hillary in the general election. A Clinton presidency would be/will be a disaster for the country from which there's no going back. A Trump presidency, no matter how incompetent and ridiculous, would be endurable.
So tell me, Trump supporters, how's Beloved Dear Leader's take on Cuban reparations sitting with you? ThinkTrump can get a good deal with the Castro Brothers, maybe set us up with a payment plan?

This is a telling response. It reveals how out of touch Cruz supporters are. Not just regarding Cruz or Trump, but the pulse of our highly diverse country and what the base looks like.
It's very simple, and there is no spin here, Cruz is not a conservative, he's a zealot. He is not someone most of the people around here would identify with at all. And as a Mormon, born and raised in the LDS church, served a mission, the whole 9 yards, I know a thing or two about Utah and mormon culture. Mormons ARE NOT conservatives as is conventionally thought. They are tribal voters that tend to go with whatever the church tells them to do. They are also emotional thinkers, voting with their hearts rather than their minds.
Who is the most prominent mormon in elected office? Harry Reid. Who was the first bonafide american socialist? Joseph Smith, the mormon prophet, founder of the mormon religion and church. He founded a no-joke socialist government in Nauvoo IL back in the early to mid 19th century. They even had their own militia which at the time was 1/3 the size of the US army. At the time of Joseph Smith's death he was actively running for POTUS. And why did Joseph Smith die? Because in a very authoritarian/theocratic kind of way he ordered that a local printing press be destroyed because he didn't like what it was saying about him.
Currently within the LDS church there is a strange dynamic. It's a mix of very right-wing and very left-wing people. BYU did a poll recently and Bernie won. The current mayor of Salt Lake City is a lesbian. There are huge feminist and liberal undercurrents within the church. A lot of issues with the gays. The right wingers like Cruz because he's openly pious and steadfastly homophobic. You've got Glenn Beck running around saying Cruz is the fulfillment of end times prophecies and talking about kids fasting for Cruz.
And they hate Trump for superficial reasons, like appearing on the cover of a playboy. Mormon culture is kind of a ninny culture. There is a phrase called "peter priesthood." Other phrases like "primary voice." Watch a LDS general conference, you've never seen so many crying men in your life. Modern LDS church produces a very femmy "soft" male culture. Go visit BYU, it's a campus of pussies. It ranks highly on lists of the gayest campuses.
Mitt Romney is a good caricature of a mormon man. Plastic. Self righteous. Soft. Who are other notable products of mormon culture in politics? You've got Reid, Hatch, Huntsman. Yes, and also some good ones like Lee, who's a real exception. Most of the LDS politicians are an embarrassment.

First, he shows a list of what boomers want (paraphrasing here): stability, like a home, can support a family, a loyal company that they can grow with. Next, he shows what gen x'ers want: the want more money (for luxuries that signal wealth), status, rapid promotion. Last, he puts up the slide for millennials with the needs not listed and asks attendees what they think. Answer? Everything boomers AND gen x'ers want.
I guess this is what 'everyone gets a trophy' trains them to think: they can have it all.

Ah, yes. The little known, but highly rated "no pants, we service" restaurant. Great place. A little hard to get a seat. Vinyl booths do stick some in the summer. lolAll kidding aside, Owen is right. You have look far and wide to find anyplace that thinks a jacket is required for dinner.
I moved down here from Huntsville. The informality was somewhat of a shock. Nobody, and I mean nobody, ever gets dressed up to go out down here. I suspect the hot weather has a lot to do with that.
Huntsville also had many NASA engineers, which also contributed to the overall formality.
Give me palm trees and flip-flops any day.

When conducted by reputable firms, pollstend grow more accurate as candidates drop out and the race tightens. Fewer undecideds, fewer variables.
Insofar as the GOP nomination goes, if both Trump and Cruz come to the convention with less than the requisite number of committed delegates (1237), all bets are off. I don't think there's a poll in the world which can accurately predict which way suddenly uncommitted delegates are going to go on a second or a third ballot.

I think you are far overestimating Trump's appeal. He happens to be the right vessel at the right time, a time of inarticulate rage at the status quo.
4 years ago this site was all about conservative purity. Hardly anyone gives a crap about that now. Now it's all about settling scores. That's what Trump is good for.
How that plays in the general is anyone's guess. There has never been a policy free candidate in my lifetime so trying to make a prediction between someone with no core and an unindicted felon is a roll of the dice.

What happened to using "she" or "her" when referring to a general unidentified person? You know, for example "When a student enters medical scroll, she should be prepared to work hard". It is almost a hate crime to use "he" in that sentence. I suppose the new grammatical rule is if use the feminine pronoun if there is a positive or neutral idea expressed the sentence. Use the masculine if there is a negative one.

That's when I realized that they were no better than the Prog/Coms on the left and were only in DC for the power and the perks. Common sense, simple math, and reality had no place in our political system any more.

I happen to think that viewing "act in your own self-interest by making good deals" as a lack of ideals, or a lack of policy, because it doesn't fall on the left-right spectrum is closer to having "no core" than being a prole on partisan issues. Thinking "I just want to get stuff done that's good" regardless of political ideology IS a political ideology.
Trump will go in trying to "make a good deal" and give us a 50-50 or 60-40 split on conservative issues simply by showing up and asking for something.
And that's better than what our "pure" conservatives have done for us.

I disagree, I think that it has to do with relentless leftist messaging vs passive conservative messaging. NH is very, very conservative, for the northeast. It's been diluted by massachusetts residents moving there (TO ESCAPE MA TAXES) but it's still conservative.

The important thing isn't him or his candidacy, it's the public's reaction to an unapologetically conservative candidate. It's positive. It is just as important for the electorate to realize it wants and is allowed to want borders and prosperity as it is for the candidate to be Mr Perfect.

Conservatism is the adherence to certain principles of governance unique to America. Primary among them is the idea that there should be a limit to governmental involvement in everyday life and that everyone is equal before the law and that laws make sense. (In the case of "global climate change," many of the laws and regulations today have no basis in reality. At. All.)
No group should be elevated above others and government should not favor one group over another through laws or regulations.
Finally, government should uphold the morals of the people. We are a Christian nation and our laws were once based upon the Ten Commandments.
What it boils down to is freedom: you either have it or you don't. The socialist nation we've been fundamentally transformed into radically over these past seven years is so far removed from what the Founders established as to be unrecognizable to many of us.
Conservatives believe in individual freedom and want merely to be left alone in a free society to build the best life possible for themselves and their family in peace. Many powerful forces are aligned to make that an impossibility. These anti-people want us all to have less while they have more.
This only scratches the surface of conservatism.

The primaries aren't over yet, Rick. RealClearPolitics has Trump is at 678 and Cruz 423. Rubio had 164. Kasich has 123. If Rubio voters move to Cruz in the remaining primaries, then Cruz has a slight but real chance to win, and has a very good chance at denying Trump the requisite 1237 it takes to win the nomination outright, possibly forcing a contested convention.
It isn't that your Beloved Dear Leader is so incredibly popular. It's that--until recently--his opposition has been so fragmented. Things are different now that not-Trump voters are coalescing around Cruz.

"Women voters" is too big a demographic to be meaningful. e.g. look at College Single No Kids; No-college Single with Kids; Blue Collar married with Kids
And you need to look state-by-state. The women who hate Trump are disproportionately in states that are already Deep Blue. So Trump will lose MA by 5% more than Romney did -- who cares.
Question is whether or not Trump can shift the demographics enough to win states like FL and OH.

It's a misdemeanor offense. The protest organizers have lawyers who will represent anyone arrested. They make a deal with the prosecutor for a reduced sentence. The protest organizer pays the fine, pays the lawyer (or the lawyer accumulates 'favors' to be repaid at a later date, i.e. employment), and all the protester has to do is not be arrested again for a probationary period. After that period (six months or a year) the arrest record is expunged.
In other words, the professional protestor suffers no consequence, and is well protected by the organizer. These professional protesters are trained, and well practiced.
The prosecutor doesn't want the expense or the waste of time over a misdemeanor. The local government doesn't want the expense of incarceration. They think the sensation of having those handcuffs on your wrists and the ride to the local jail, and the booking process is enough to intimidate the professional protester who is laughing all the way through the thing, or screaming at the officers just to be a nuisance. The professional protester is a true believer, and being arrested is proof that he is being abused by the oppressive police state who is violating his constitutional rights of free speech. All of the professional protester's paranoia is validated by the arrest, and he becomes even more convinced that his cause is righteous and just.
In other words, we're losing this battle.

I don't trust the Republicans to attempt to confirm any truly conservative justice. I expect that if there is someone nominated (by anyone - Cruz, Trump, or even Hilary for whatever reason) who is a strict constructionist/intentionalist, then the Left will suddenly re-discover the fact that the Senate is a co-equal branch of government, and isn't actually required to confirm anyone. And I expect the Republicans in the senate to capitulate. Again.
In some ways, it's this "strange new respect" for the Separation of Powers which will come if any Republican (Trump, Cruz, or even Kasich) is elected that makes me quite sanguine about the ascendancy of Donald Trump - the MFM and Senate won't give him the same blank check that they've written for TFG for the last 8 years. If he tries anything along the lines of DREAM by fiat, or giving unlawful orders to the military, or any such thing, you'll be amazed at how fast a President can be impeached.

Well let's see. I suppose there are two hypotheses on why Congress has been unable to substantially stop Obama's plans:
1. Congress has the power, but they choose not to use it because they secretly agree with Obama on everything and/or are full of spineless weasels.
2. Congress has lost a considerable amount of power over the years due to delegation to the executive branch and the general growth of executive power in general, and therefore aren't really able to stop much of what Obama wants to do.
So if we elect a Constitution-shredding executive-loving Trump, and Hypothesis #1 is true, then Congress might suddenly grow a spine and restrain his worse impulses. But if Hypothesis #2 is true, then we're all boned.
How much do you want to believe that #1 is true and #2 is not true?

Which is more-or-less what I believe. What prevents Congress, today, from blocking the President is that they are not unified in an attempt to do so. Remember that you need super-majorities.
We can discuss the ridiculousness of the... that phrase I can't use because AtC will hurt me... all we want, but there is no "growth of executive power in general" other than what Congresses has ceded and could reclaim if they chose. The President's powers are designed such that, in a divided Congress, he has considerable "flexibility" within such powers as he already has. And, yes, Congress has ceded much of its authority to the office of the President at the present moment.
But get Donald Trump in the White House, and I think you'll see that change. He really will be a unifier: no more "Democrat v Republican" it'll be "Congress v the President." And the Constitution is written so that Congress generally gets to win.

If Congress was full of a bunch of rigid ideologues that are horrified at Trump, they would have shown evidence of such an ideological position by now, but they haven't.

They could, but the barriers to doing so remain high. Such as the effective supermajority requirement in the Senate that you point out. So effectively they have ceded power on a more-or-less permanent basis to the executive branch.
no more "Democrat v Republican" it'll be "Congress v the President."
And the Constitution is written so that Congress generally gets to win.
I think that is wishful thinking at best, in two ways:
1. The incentives are for Republicans to get in line behind a Republican president because that leads to greater chances of electoral victory in offyear elections.
2. As we have seen, the only Congressional power that they really have left is the power of the purse. And that can be subverted with these mega-omnibus last minute spending bills. If Trump proposes these massive "make America great again" spending plans, which I think he will, where would Congress find the will to resist such things?

Ted Cruz's campaign would be like a somebody at Hillsdale College running for President of the College Republicans, and then throw in some SoCon weirdness. He just assumes there's this natural conservative, Evangelical super majority in America.
That might be Texas, but it's not America, unfortunately. I could see him shrinking the map from Romney in 2012.

I've also seen polls where Bernie Sanders beats Ted Cruz by 17 points. Does anyone really think that's how that election would turn out?
When you see one set of polling that
"everyone" knows is nonsense, you can't really cherry pick from that same data to make some point about electability.

People are pissed off at Donald because he is an unconservative boorish authoritarian lout, who is ideologically *barely* to the right of Hillary, who has no principles or convictions, who is a con man selling a swindle.

Funny thing - we have an optional check-off box on our tax forms here in the People's Republic of Massachusetts that allows all those patriotic liberals to be taxed at a 5.85% rate rather than the 5.15% rate the voters approved (the voters actually approved a 5% rate, but the legislature has been ramping it down from 5.3% since it was passed in 2000).
How much did that bring in to Mass.GOV last year? About $250K from 1,083 people in 2013 - or roughly .0000008% of the $32B budget for that year.
Liberals are really generous with everyone else's money but tend to throw their own nickles around like they're manhole covers.

A lot of it is Obama specific. Congressional R leaders are afraid to use the power of the purse because they think they'll get blamed for any gov't shutdown and, worse still, a Federal default, which is dangerous uncharted territory. Obama has proven crazy idealogical enough to create a default and has MSM on his side.
Add to that, there are enough Rs who are happy to have the pig trough get filled as long as they get a share.
Re the many scandals, there should have been special prosecutors but there weren't because MSM didn't demand it. You'll see the MSM double standard in the next R administration. We have a politicized DOJ and Congress is ineffective at investigations. Compare the Gowdy Commission to Judicial Watch on Hillary's e-mails.
