Working on a post for Cut Jib about Ted Cruz being the first American of Latino extraction to win a caucus/primary.

In fact, if you add Rubio and Carson to Cruz, that represents a majority of the votes cast.

On the other side? Geriatric white plantation owners.

Suck it Democrats.

"When there were no more lifejackets in the storage room, the chaplains removed theirs and gave them to four frightened young men.

'It was the finest thing I have seen or hope to see this side of heaven,' said John Ladd, another survivor who saw the chaplains' selfless act."

They deserve remembering and should be an inspiration to us.

13 Actually, as Cruz will be running unopposed for his 2nd term, we will be able to ignore Iowa for 7.5 years. At least.

I hope there are 114 Dem candidates though. Mainly so I can laugh at them all.

14 The theory I proposed yesterday, that Rubio's 'surprising' 3rd place finish in Iowa was the result of crossover voting picked up another piece of evidence... the democrat turnout dropped by 25% while republican turnout was 'record breaking'. Rubio support was highest in the largest cities in Iowa. Large cities are traditionally democrat.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

But his third place is so yuuuge that it's really the big story of the Caucuses.

66 Good morning all.

From this date in 1944- near Naples, Italy. EZ Dog's short break is about to be cut short:

Feb 3, 1944 - The EZ Dog Journal
Slept late again. Luxury!! Shopped in the morning again. Met the "maestro" of the hotel orchestra after lunch, Prof. Antony - and he introduced his pride and joy, Giannina Marie, the singer. Cute trick. She promised a special song for dinner.
Orders came to report back to CP. Didn't know what was up so dinner was rather a hurried affair. Did get that special song, though. Rommel's theme song "Lili Marlean" (sp). Then a quick trip back to Lungo. Got there about midnight. Even though my vacation was cut short it did me a world of good.

Ah sweet Giannina Marie. But if you had read the book you would have met her already.

And I am still not so sure it isn't true... who the heck flies all the way from Iowa to Florida to "get clean clothes"? It's hard to get real hot water out of them in winter when incoming water is cold. To ensure hot showers and clean dishes/clothes you need a pretty powerful one that draws at least 20kw if you live in northers areas (around 80 amps) Your residential panel may not be able to handle the extra load and you could be throwing the main breaker if lots of other items are running simultaneously. You probably need a 200A panel to make sure this doesn't happen.

I don't watch Fox and Friends so I can't really comment on what they said but I heard that story too on Monday and I didn't get it from either the Cruz campaign OR CNN so the story was out there.

As I said above, I am not at all sure the story is not true because Carson's explanation seems contrived.
And unless you, Illiniwek, have some specific knowledge that the Cruz campaign didn't believe the CNN story and tweeted it out anyway, perhaps you should not be so free with the "l" word.

170 Ugh, morning all. Realized yesterday I'm in a tough spot with my supervisor. After a meeting where I didn't ask my question because another coworker asked the same one, I get told that I "let her down" because she said to ask questions. I honestly couldn't think of another one because the guy answering the questions WASN'T answering them, every answer was "I don't have an answer to that.

Long story short, I feel like I'm stuck in a Catch-22 where I can't win. Apparently I need to treat everything she says as a direct order, even though it was conveyed as (in this situation) "hey, so and so is coming, feel free to ask questions." If I don't, then I feel like she thinks of me as disrespecting her because in her mind I didn't do what she asks. On the other hand if I'm a robot and do exactly what she says everytime, she'd probably say I don't "go the extra mile."

Ugh.....

Here's
an interesting story on the exhumation of the Big Bopper's body in
order to determine whether someone had been fooling around with a
revolver on the fatal flight:

Waylon Jennings apparently was haunted by guilt the rest of his life because he was supposed to be on that flight but gave up his seat to the Big Bopper. He and Buddy Holly were joking around before the flight and Buddy Holly said he hoped Waylon's damn bus froze up... to which Waylon replied "well I hope your old plane crashes."

214 131 So anyway the water heater is over 15 years old and I was thinking of a tankless one. Any pro/cons yea/nays?

Tankless water heaters are for a very limited market. Electric units are worthless, gas isn't much better. The trouble is getting enough water through them to do everyday tasks.

If you want to fill a bathtub, tankless heaters will take a long time. Take a shower and run the washing machine at the same time? Nope.

This problem can be overcome by installing more than one in series with the others. Each one will raise the water temp a certain amount in the limited amount of time the water is flowing through.

Best bet - use a tank.

I forget which base I was stationed at when SRV was killed. The next concert date was scheduled for the city I was in. We expected Clapton to cancel the show out of respect for SRV. Concert was like the next day. He didn't cancel. I didn't go and lost a little respect for Clapton about that.

234 @205

Yup. I've read so much about black people celebrating (which they did) and white people outraged (which they were), but I think making it as simple as racial divide is a discredit to both races. It is just as insulting to state that black people only rooted for OJ because he was black, and it was some sort of perverse sense of justice, as it is to state whites were outraged only because OJ was black.

A black person may have felt that the prosecution didn't do their job. A white person, like us, may have seen it as a case of rich celebrity getting off. Like I said, to me it's offensive to assume that people of certain races had an opinion because of one specific thing.

On top of that...OJ was beloved, across the country, regardless of race. He was a superstar at USC, a football analyst, in films, in commercials, was incredibly charming. Whites loved OJ. That's why this case was such a BIG deal...because it involved someone that was universally respected.

Looking back, there were a lot of conversations like this:

Little Donna (pounding on the bathroom door): did you die in there?
Brother: Go away, Donna!
Little Donna: are you sick? Do you have the runs?
Brother: Leave me alone!
Little Donna: But you've been in the bathroom, for, like, 2 days now and I have to pee.
Brother: Go downstairs!
Little Donna: There are spiders down there. Come out!
Brother: I'll be out in a minute!

283 @259

Again, it wasn't "white folks". It wasn't a White vs Black thing. His lawyers made it so, and the media made it so.

But, there were (white) friends of mine that wanted him to be found not guilty. I am sure there were black people who felt he was guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt.

It just bothers me when people suggest that I, or other people, were rooting for an OJ conviction specifically because I am white. I was rooting for a conviction because I truly believe he was guilty, and I thought if he got off because of celebrity, it would be a true failure of the justice system.

To be fair, after all of this, I don't believe he got off because he was a celebrity, although I'm sure it played a part. I do believe he got off because he was black, and the trial was held in downtown LA, and the jury was largely minority. So, I guess after all these years, I've been turned around on my own thoughts.

Yeah, I wanted to comment too.

I can't help but notice that exactly none of the people in power have any idea how our economy once operated. We have years of data from back when we had actual growth, but those folks seem to look at it as they would some ancient language.

I'm certain someone has done it already, but there is a direct correlation between the growth of government and the worsening of the economy. The past 7 years are a clear example.

As unnecessary government regulations increase their operating expenses, they are forced to seek money elsewhere. The money they once paid their employees now goes to lawyers to decode the Byzantine regulatory agencies' insane diktats.

And don't get me started on how top-heavy most big corporations are. They also bear responsibility for this, as they haven't figured out their exorbitant salaries are pricing them out of the market.

317 We've had a tankless water heater for about five years now. Absolutely love it. When we purchased it, they asked us a bunch of questions to determine which size unit would be appropriate for us (# of people in the house, frequency of using dishwasher, washing machine, etc.)

Not sure why some are saying you can't do two things at once with it. Definitely not the case here. When we had a regular tank, the only way we could get our youngest out of the shower was to turn on all the hot water faucets downstairs and deprive him of hot water upstairs. That doesn't work with the tankless, so we're reduced to banging on the door and screaming at him again.

What "track record" would that be? He believes in big government "conservatism" and he's fairly socially liberal.

On the other hand, he knows his rise is due only to his customers supporters, and that he won't have big establishment money on which to rely if he ticks them off, which at least has some chance of making him make some show of attempting to keep his promises.

So, non-zero chance. I didn't say a good one.

Pencil would have given them the vapors.

Sonofa! Internet. I hate you sometimes.

Is it normal that I'm sexually attracted to kitchen appliances?

Their submissiveness to my desires is my fetish. I love the soft curves of my egg beater and the slick surface of my microwave. I like to think that they work hard not because they were designed that way, but because they love me. I am their master, they want nothing but to serve me as much as they can. Yesterday, my toaster was looking particularly lonely, so I gave her the special treatment. After I did, I cleaned her up and she looked as good as the day I adopted her. Who else knows how to show love to those who work their hardest for you?

Trump has a track record of talking up people who he needs, until they're on the other side, at which point they're the worst ever. I'm STILL trying to figure out what his REAL track record is, filtering out THAT noise.

But, on the whole, it's pretty aggravating to hear so-called conservatives argue AGAINST his immigration stances, while Trump unapologetically brags about being a billionaire and gives the finger to political correctness, and then come up with unhinged conspiracy theory stories about how he's some sort of "double agent" for the Left. The same guy they deride as a clown id the guy they're also saying is some sort of superspy!

436 ***"Don't defend Trump by drawing attention to the other guy."***

Don't presume to tell me what to do.

The point was that Trump has some sort of political track record, which he quite obviously does not. This point was made in effort to illustrate how he will screw over the base. Meanwhile, the GOPe has several contenders who have a gigantic flaming track record (Rubio being the poster child for) of screwing over the base.

If you don't think that's relevant, that's your problem.

***Support him all you want. But his record on where he stands speaks volumes::***

As I've repeatedly told you, I don't support him. But I don't support silly arguments either. I'll say it again in case you missed it - he's all over the place. Since his "record" consists of statements and his statements are all over the map, now one actually knows where the hell he stands.

But here you have several GOPe guys who have tangible records (and Cruz isn't too clean here either) of trying to shove their limp dicks in your squeakhole, and it's defending Trump to point that out?

You go on thinking that.

442 The anti-Trump agitprop is strong, even among the "conservatives". (needs scare quotes, cuz that word has vastly different meanings now).

Trump has had to do real business and has people that respect him. O'Reilly, Giuliani, even Jack Welch all seem to think he is good. His deals are more real than the guys Client Number Nine was going after, or Corzine who reached out and touched someone ... borrowing $1.5B from clients without asking, to cover bad European "gambling" debts at MF Global (bankrupt in 2011).

He is a rough tool, but if he only serves as a temporary way for conservatives to express rage, and goes away, then it is back to business as usual or worse. He may be the only one that will keep pushing the big issues, that would never be in the limelight otherwise. If he only acts as a figurehead capable of keeping the kingmakers at bay, fine. He will have policy men to handle the rest.

Cruz sure knows policy and law better ... can he win? Will he pivot back to the middle if Trump were gone? Can he get along with anyone? Valid questions I think.

The state did prove it's case. The jury consisted of morons or what is known as a "downtown jury." The powers that be ordered the change of venue -- not the DAs trying the case. It was a west side case and shd have been tried in the west side courts. Moving it downtown was a kiss of death. And I hope OJ is in excruciating pain while in the Nevada prison. But I doubt it. I'm sure he has enough sycophants to do is bidding. And the shits who protected him 20 years ago -- they knew he murdered those two people. But bros before hos. Kardashian is dead, Cochran is dead. 464 "It is just as insulting to state that black people only rooted for OJ because he was black, and it was some sort of perverse sense of justice, as it is to state whites were outraged only because OJ was black. "

That is EXACTLY why they rooted for OJ - just like Black Lives Matter only when a white officer kills a black. To think otherwise is to be utterly blind to the racial dynamics in this country.

I was working in a DC law firm at the time and a bunch of employees, both black and white, crowded into a large conference room to watch TV when the verdict was announced. Every single black in that room cheered and clapped. Not one white did. Because to the whites it was evident that a guilty man was off the hook and justice had not been served. To the blacks, it was just a matter of "Yay! We screwed whitey! Gimme five!" They didn't give a shit about the victims.

I talked to a judge on the Superior court in DE shortly afterward.

Most jurisdictions would never have allowed that circus to happen. There would have been en evidentiary hearing, where evidence would be submitted, reviewed and admitted. They would not be allowed to submit TWO sets of evidence, dragging the trial out and letting the defense go last. The Boston bombing trial or the CO theater shooting trial didn't last nearly as long.

And the press would have been far more severely curtailed.

509 from the Trump screws everybody article at Am Thinker
"He used bankruptcy laws to escape responsibility for his debts. That option is sometimes is necessary for individuals -- that is why the laws exist. But has anyone pointed out that these actions have harmed the little guy to benefit the billionaire?"

He had a lot of companies and the people handling pension funds get more interest if they take more risk, but they diversify. Corporations are all about protecting the individuals, and encouraging investment and risk taking on big projects. Then a bankruptcy judge determines how to divide remaining assets if the venture fails.

Personal bankruptcy can be good or bad, and corporations must be more prudent with their company than an individual. It is crazy to think Trump's use of the corporate system is different than anyone else in business. Almost all set up some such protection, if they do even one big project. I think Trump lost it all once ... learned his lesson perhaps, idk details.

But to claim that using bankruptcy law proves Trump is evil, is just dishonest agitprop. Trump lost on those deals too, no doubt. An occasional loss is part of business.

Naabro. Latin is elitist. So doan be quotin no Thomas Aquinas.

The Kardashians' problem, if they can be said to have one, has to do with telling the difference between "pussy" and "ass." It's a vanishing distinction, though, now.

Latin does have its problems, though. The state motto of Ohio is always rendered in English, because matching case endings can easily turn the intended "In God all things are possible" into "Oh God. Anything can happen." Yet, both are true.

523 Most jurisdictions would never have allowed that circus to happen.

We've been fighting this battle alone now for over 15 years. Trump has ideas. I don't have to advocate for him. He challenges leftists right to their faces, instead of making ME do it. And that's the real failure of the last two decades of conservatism.

You can't seriously maintain that moving the venue to central LA wasn't the biggest unforced error in trial history, can you?

I didn't SAY Fuhrman's was a racist. I respect Fuhrman. I said his comments on one earlier occasion were racist, & they were recorded. The trial judge let those in, as impeachment evidence, over state objections. Can't blame the prosecution for that. Once the AAs on the jury heard that, there was never any possibility of a conviction, imo.
Posted by: mnw (rare and flounced) at February 03, 2016 10:08 AM (VLEp3)

Oh, brother! I never said the change of venue wasnt an error. I said the opposite. I also didnt say that you said that Fuhrman was a racist. Nor did I say that impeachment shdnt have been allowed. However, the question opening the door to impeachment shd never have been asked to begin with. Ito lost control of the court in pretrial hearings and it only got worse. There was no chance for a conviction once venue was changed. Now I'm done with you. I'm not going to defend myself against shit I never said or implied.

I have come around more to the idea that if the government is going to hand out money, then just let the people use it as they wish (obviously within reason). So if the money is being spent on fastfood, so be it. If we are concerned with how they are spending this money, then we should limit how much the receive in the first place.

Word. I've mentioned before I think of myself as a Westernist first and foremost--I think of limited government as a fine thing for a Western civilization to have, but you have to have that culture first! And like it or not, Christianity is part of the foundation of that culture.

Undermining the culture is what's caused the rest to fail. That's why I keep saying we're not voting our way out of this--for that to even be possible we would need to root out the rot and repair the cultural damage first and foremost. Democratic crossover voting in GOP primaries to vote for the weakest Republican primary candidate is an old Chicago trick. McCaskill's people engineered Aiken's nomination this way in Missouri, ensuring her reelection.

But that's just it: Democrats cross over to vote for the weakest opposition candidate, the one easiest to beat. Thus, it makes nosense for Democrats to crossover and support Rubio's candidacy. Rubio consistently (as in always) beats Hillary (or any other Democrat) in every electoral modeling exercise that's been conducted so far. Following the logic, Democrats would be better off crossing over to vote for Jeb, who loses to Hillary nearly every time.

578 Morning all. Regarding the Carson vs Cruz dealio, Carson was on O'Reilly last night and despite questions by O'Reilly that the issue is really with CNN, Carson preferred to push the accusation of sabotage by the Cruz camp. O'Reilly promised to get to the bottom of the whole thing while Carson didn't seem too willing to do so as well.

Here's the video:

http://tinyurl.com/hf9s2mo

I've read this morning that Carson's camp is fundraising off the accusation, efforts started yesterday (Gateway Pundit). So I don't see them eager to put the issue to bed by getting to the truth of the matter.

I haven't see the three tweets put out by CNN, but based on the troubles that Team Carson has had over the last few weeks, I don't think it's implausible for Team Cruz to think he was going to drop out.

If he did then Cruz's people were OK in persuading Carson's supporters to come to Cruz.

If he didn't then Cruz's people lied to persuade Carson's supporters to come to Cruz.

I don't know what really happened and Carson's campaign has been shipwrecked since December. However, if there were multiple caucuses in which this happened then I would guess that there was plan by Cruz to do that knowing the weakness of the Carson campaign.

How is it a lie to repeat a CNN tweet? Should they be required to post every tweet? Not in a political campaign. They have attacked Cruz by repeating statements without the entire context. Every candidate has that happen to them. It's been that way since Politics was created.

584 I don't know what really happened and Carson's campaign has been shipwrecked since December. However, if there were multiple caucuses in which this happened then I would guess that there was plan by Cruz to do that knowing the weakness of the Carson campaign.

It happened at various locations, that's why Carson is so upset. I don't believe it was a predesigned effort by Cruz as you Trump supporters seem to prefer.

585 An old boyfriend of mine had a story about an shiftless uncle who moved in with him and basically loafed around and mooched until my BF's father hit upon the idea of serving liver and onions (which he knew his shiftless brother detested) every night for dinner. On the third night, his brother complained. BF's dad said, very calmly, "we all love liver and onions and we're having it for dinner every night and if you don't like it, get a job so you can have whatever you damn well please for dinner."

He got a job within a couple of weeks.

Those with EBT cards should not be able to buy anything but grocery staples with it. If they want to eat at MickeyD's or Golden Corral, they should have to get a job to do so.

If you can get all the food with an EBT that you would eat if you had a job, you have no incentive to get off welfare. There's got to be some sort of f'ing downside to it.

586 Well did Carson drop or out or didn't he?

If he did then Cruz's people were OK in persuading Carson's supporters to come to Cruz.

If he didn't then Cruz's people lied to persuade Carson's supporters to come to Cruz.

I tend to think Carson is about to throw in the towel but you are assigning nefarious motives by ignoring a third option. The campaign retweeted a CNN tweet... EVEN IF the CNN report turns out to be wrong, it still doesn't mean the Cruz campaign was wrong or lying to re-tweet it as CNN is a news organization and not a gossip site.

587 "He got a job within a couple of weeks. "

Oops, I meant days. Who could bear to eat liver for weeks? I can't bear to eat it at all.

588 Can't believe people still believe me, my story is
very similar to the current President. Gullible doesn't even begin to
describe it.

589 Congratulations, Iowa. Now you can go back to not being noticed by anyone for 3.5 years.

That will be just fine with most of us.

590 "I have come around more to the idea that if the government is going to hand out money, then just let the people use it as they wish (obviously within reason). So if the money is being spent on fastfood, so be it. If we are concerned with how they are spending this money, then we should limit how much the receive in the first place.

But the government is handing out someone else's money. That's where the concept that society gets to tell them what they can and can't do with it would come from. In fact, they are giving away our kids' money, because this stuff is borrowed at incredibly long (infinite?) repay rates, which is so expensive.

I went to McDonalds yesterday because I was in a pinch. My meal cost $9. I was starving about an hour later because the meal was all filler. If someone said they needed to steal from my family in order to survive, I'd tell them they better get rice and beans, where $9 will feed you 30 meals.

591 "If he didn't then Cruz's people lied to persuade Carson's supporters to come to Cruz.
"

Nope, that's like saying Bush lied about WMDs.

If Carson really did say he wasn't going to South Carolina and New Hampshire to take a break from the campaign, and a lot of major media reported this as Carson suspending his campaign, then Cruz's campaign passing that information on to its people was GOOD FAITH.

Carson still hasn't really explained what the hell he's doing. He's not getting his laundry. His communication has been very poor. I like the guy, but he needs to accept some responsibility for this instead of acting like Cruz made the problem up out of thin air.
