It Could Be Worse: On the Left, There's a Massive F*ckstorm Over the Alleged "BernieBro" Phenomenon

What is the "BernieBro" controversy?

Well, sit down before you hear this: It's lefties claiming other lefties are "harassing" and "abusing" them by employing "sexist tropes" to knock Hillary Clinton.

It is, I mean, overly sensitive feminist women claiming that Hillary Clinton is being mansplained to, or that her supporters are being mansplained to, from male Sanders supporters -- thus, the "Bros."

Breitbart excerpts Glenn Greenwald criticizing this made-up, lunatic new fiction that the SJWs have seized upon to add a frisson of drama and importance to their empty, bubble-headed lives.

There's a Social Justice Warrior circle jerk, of one SJW passing a fictitious claim on to the next, that's even now gotten coverage from the BBC.

One of the alleged "Bernie Bros" complained of turned out to neither be pro-Bernie nor a Bro. Nor a real person. There's an account on Twitter called Rep. Steve Smith. This account is supposedly a southern Republican congressman, and he tweets the sort of nonsense a liberal would think a southern Republican congressman would tweet.

He also doesn't exist. It's fake. It's a joke. There is no "Representative Steve Smith" (though, honestly -- how perfect is that name? It sounds like a real thing, I have to concede).

This left-leaning write (I assume) debunks this story, noting that a "BernieBro" story has been concocted out of whole cloth by a Satanic Quilting Bee of one feminist writer telling the next one about the indignities she's suffered -- all due to a fake account that has nothing to do with Bernie Sanders, nor any actually existing politician.

But they each passed their Captivity Narrative to the next, each citing each other. Tracing the Telephone Game back to its source, this writer finds the story concocted by:

1) Wonkette's Kaili Joy Gray is citing

2) The New Republic's Jamil Smith, who cited

3) Mashable's Emily Cohn, who cited

4) New Yorker TV critic Emily Nussbaum, who credited to a Berniebro a quote from

5) A Republican Congressman's Twitter account, who turns out to not even be a Congressman, but rather

6) A random troll who created a character "based on J.D. 'Boss' Hogg from the classic TV show, 'The Dukes of Hazzard'".

So as bad as our current little bad family reunion is going, it could be worse.

Not much worse, but slightly.

But it's bad enough that the hard left is, get this, now criticizing the GamerGate thugs within it for being authoritarian witches.

I'm a lifelong liberal and I am so fucking sick of these fascist losers.
Arthur Chu's piece on The Guardian's "BernieBros" made me want to punch a wall (Not even worth archiving, spare yourselves the pain.). The web's media columnists are almost now entirely internet trolls with freelancing jobs like Chu, Sady Doyle, Elon James, Sarah Jeong, and other members of the anti-GG "intelligentsia."

For all of the left-wing values anti-GG SJW's supposedly preach, you'd think they'd believe in the candidate who wants to fight institutional racism, perpetual war; to end a corrupt political finance system, and put men and women on an equal footing.
But no, the Left has been invaded by these...things.

These self-flagellating hipster fascists who want speech policed, who want private institutions to take over our schools and police departments, who want to get paid to make the world to agree with them...Or else. A bunch of fucking Dolores Umbridges.

These people do not preach Liberal Values. They are authoritarian bullies. GG was just the start and now with the election in full swing they're ready to try to steal their moment in the sun, even if it means sabotaging the Left.

Worst of all, these attacks work. I've already seen one Bernie supporter switch over to Hillary for fear of being seen as sexist. Granted, he's a fucking moron with no principles and is just the type of dude to fall for this shit, but still.
I need to take a walk.

Oh, one more thing. There's apparently a fight on the left about the following proposition:

Is Bernie Sanders a racist, white-priveleged, mansplaining monster for only pushing hardcore socialism rather than, as the Hillary Maenads would prefer, a toxic brew of both hardcore socialism and war-of-all-against-all identity politics?

See, the SJW set doesn't want to talk about socialism; they really just want to talk about how they're Aggrieved. (It doesn't occur to them that socialism is nothing but butthurt economics for the malignantly aggrieved and economically useless.)

They don't like how Bernie Sanders pushes socialism without adequately talking up Black Lives Matter and White Skin Priveledge.

A right-leaning commentator was so distraught by the lunacy of this situation he felt he needed to come in and mansplain how socialism is really just State-Compelled Social Justice Warrioring For Everyone, and so they're really arguing about nothing.

I wouldn't have done that, but I guess no harm done -- they're not going to read him anyway.

8 The multi- special snowflake contingents that the Left has been building for themselves have the potential for a massive critical reaction of mutual destruction.

And they've all built their identities around being the specialest victim. Let's help them start stepping on each others toes as much as possible.

14 The plate lifts out of the floor of the bus and tilts upright, two red eyes glowing brightly.

HRC: "What devilry have you unleashed now you gnomish coward?"
Bernie yells back "I'm an American nationalist and socialist, not Swiss!"
The animatronic Shirley Jones steps towards the back of the bus, the red eyes scanning for Hillary and then calibrating.
ASJ: "Target acquired, threat analyzed. You have been very bad, Laurie; time for you to be punished."
Bernie: "Laurie?"
RK: "It sees everything in terms of the Partridge Family."
Bernie: "Laurie was the cute one! Hillary's uglier than a Guatemalan fruit bat! It must be blind!"
RK: "I couldn't afford better software! The music..."
Bernie: "I've heard, save it will you?"
Hillary backs away as the animatronic mother/bandleader advances. Flexing her fingers into the familiar talon form she snarls "Bring it to me you washed up D-lister!"
ASJ: "I am going to have to wash out your mouth with soap young lady."
The robotic hands shoot forward, slapping at Hillary's face as her talons deflect the attacks. Hillary lashes out with her orthopedic shoes, getting solid hits on the robot from the ankles down.
The animatronic Shirley Jones staggers backwards and Hillary senses her triumph and plans for an ambitious spin kick. In the fifteen seconds it takes her to lift her leg and spin the robot recovers and grabs the slowly approaching leg. The weight causes strains to the circuitry, small hydraulic lines parting as the animatronic Shirley Jones pushes towards the back of the bus, Hillary hopping on one foot.
Reuben yells "Hold on tight!" and pushes another button, the emergency door at the back opening. The sudden suction whisks out paper napkins, old soda cans and other litter. Screaming her hate, Hillary flies out the door and onto the pavement, the robot collapsing as Reuben pulls the door shut.
Bernie walks to the back of the bus saying "That was a close one."
RK: "Aren't you driving?"
Both yell as they frantically grab the wheel, tugging it this way and that, the bus staggering across the lanes of the highway, the parked Rascal on the roof tumbling off into a ditch and bursting into flames.

Obviously, I am confused by using 'class struggles' descriptors, so I would appreciate a handy-dandy guide to current nomenclature.

Much of the top brass of the SA were fruits. That disgusted senior army officers, and that, along with the size of the SA (1 MM members, vs. the 100,000 limit on the army imposed by Versailles) made the army wary of the Nazis. Also, Roehm and the SA were really socialist, and that alarmed industrialists.

So Roehm Co. had to go.

Venona hadn't been declassifed yet, so those who knew that the US gov (especially State) was riddled with Soviet spies couldn't say anything, and they and Hollywood could go on claiming blacklist/witch hunt, evil McCarthyists were out to get poor, loyal Americans. So yeah, Reagan helped to destroy the Soviet Union, and its leavings set up camp here. They are seeing the fruits of their labor now.

Yep. IMHO, the biggest mistake ever made was the failure to burn the Frankfurt School to the ground and hang everyone associated with it in any way the day after it opened.

But so much has changed between '84 and '16. I can't reconcile how any conservative would be for any kind of amnesty, given the economic and cultural toll. Not to mention, permanently changing the entire country for the worse, and at the expense of American citizens.

270 @132 Had she not been Juan's VP, nobody would ever have heard of her.
-------------------------

Not entirely true. She was mentioned in an NRO article discussing local figures who could potentially move to the national stage about a year or so before McCain picked her as his VP candidate. So while there wasn't widespread knowledge of her, there was a sense among the knowledgeable that she was someone who had potential.

With hindsight, she should have respectfully declined the pick from McCain, focused on finishing her anti-corruption sweep of the state government, and only then focused attention on the national level. A more cautious entrance into the national scene would have hopefully meant that she would have been better prepared, and wouldn't have had as many early foot in mouth moments that could be exploited by the media and people like Tina Fey. If people hadn't had cause to wonder about her actual statements, then the general public probably wouldn't have mistaken Fey's lines for ones that Palin actually uttered.

I think, since the primary has already boiled down to three candidates, he's attempting to build all three up as much as possible to preclude any possibility that Bernie or the Hildebeast become president.

I remember seeing her on The Larry Kudlow show around the same time. It sticks out in my mind because she was sitting in this huge chair and that image stuck with me I guess.

So yeah she was sort of known nationally, but I just don't think a governor from Alaska has the clout/money/exposure to make it nationally. Same goes for places like the Dakotas, Idaho, New Mexico, etc. It's not a coincidence that the powerful national politicians from both parties come from NY, IL, TX, CA, FL, etc. It's where the money/power is.

Yes, I know Bill Clinton is from Arkansas. But he's from Arkansas via Yale and Oxford, the kind of connections Palin doesn't have.

Also, if Palin had stayed put in Alaska and kept her head down, the left would not have pursued their jihad against her with the ferocity which they later did. Her having spoken openly against Obama in 2008 painted a huge target on her back. The left will never forget and never forgive, and immediately set out for revenge.

Resulting in the blizzard of utterly bogus "ethics complaints", every single one of which was eventually dismissed without a finding of fault, but which made it financially untenable for her to remain in office.

1. I know of no evidence that Reagan regretted signing the amnesty bill. If you do, can you share it?
2. If you just compare the two bills, Simpson-Mazzoli and Rubio-Schumer, the Rubio bill is actually tougher. Simpson-Mazzoli granted amnesty with only minimal conditions, none contingent on border security at all. Rubio's bill granted amnesty only conditionally on the certification of the border being "secure". Now you and I both know that the certification would have been a joke. But Reagan's bill didn't even have that! So it's kinda hard to argue that the Rubio bill's comparatively tougher amnesty would have "destroyed America" when a more liberal and generous amnesty in 1986 didn't.
3. I can't say this enough - Reagan did not reluctantly or begrudgingly support amnesty. He was a full-throated advocate of it. He even supported illegal immigration! His position is probably closest to Jeb!'s, today. This is what Reagan said in 1977(!):
"When the Labor Department is forced to relent and let these visitors do
this work it is of course all legal. But it makes one wonder about the
illegal alien fuss. Are great numbers of our unemployed really victims
of the illegal alien invasion or are those illegal tourists actually
doing work our own people won't do? One thing is certain in this hungry
world; no regulation or law should be allowed if it results in crops
rotting in the field for lack of harvesters."
https://storify.com/DigitalFirst/what-reagan-said-about-undocumented-immigrants
So by the Reagan standard, everyone on the right today is way more conservative.

You say that as though if conservatives support many of the things Reagan did, they must support *ALL* of the things he did.

You say that as though economic conditions and voting demographics are the same now as they were in his time.

If you really have a phd in a hard science, then presumably you must be able to think with precision if you set your mind to it.

Why are you using these sloppy, dishonest arguments that conflate numerous concepts and convince nobody? Why have you made this a hill to die on when you obviously have not thought this through?

Posted by: angela urkel at February 03, 2016 03:27 PM (0AXi5)

289 It is obviously impossible to know what Reagan would have supported today.

But everything that Reagan actually said or did in his time is consistent with what was essentially George W. Bush's approach in 2006.

Evidently some of Reagan's associates later on claimed that he later regretted amnesty, but to my knowledge Reagan himself never said that.

Now I'm not advocating for amnesty or any of that. I just think the record should be set straight on who Reagan really was. *By today's standards*, he would have been on the W./McCain side of the immigration argument.
