Ted Cruz Will Be Center Stage in Tomorrow Night's Debate; No Empty Podium to Mock Trump

At the Right Scoop.

By the way, I saw Cruz prosecuting Trump for the non-appearance -- he was really effective.

This might turn out to be a really bad move on Trump's part. Cruz was out of the gates with a really tough and credible attack on Trump for, as he put it, failing to have the "humility" to "stand before" the voters of Iowa and accept their scrutiny and judgment.

Meanwhile, this amuses me: Rubio's supporters, who are ninnies, have all been on the same page, parroting the same claims for months, like they always do. One of their biggest mantras is that "Cruz is a pussy because he won't attack Trump."

Well, Rubio also doesn't attack Trump. Rubes' Boys just wanted to try to make Trump and Cruz attack each other, so that Rubes could just slip into first without doing anything but talking about gran-gran's cigars.

Which frankly is a weird thing to talk about, but whatever.

But now Cruz is really going after Trump pretty damn hard, and Rubes is declining to attack him, calling the matter a "sideshow" and insisting we must talk about "the future" or whatever.

Cruz backer Steve King is also pouring it on Trump, and this Slate writer, who's damn good, says the GOP Establishment is straight-up lying when they claim they prefer Trump to Cruz. They're trying to take out Cruz to clear a path for, you guessed it, Rubez.

Jonah Goldberg notes the Establishment is actually bragging about this to their pals at the New York Times.

"Do they all love Trump? No," Republican lobbyist Richard F. Hohlt told the New York Times. "But there's a feeling that he is not going to layer over the party or install his own person. Whereas Cruz will have his own people there."

It's hard to criticize Limbaugh & Co. for cynically questioning the motives of the establishment when party apparatchiks confess them in the pages of the New York Times.

Oh, and Trump is promising a rival event.

Apparently this event will happen in Des Moines.

They call Cruz a conservative but he was a big champion of vastly increasing the H1B visa system that is already being abused by Disney so they can hire cheap foreign labor and fire their Americans. The word is that he had a change of heart and no longer backs that. I checked and his "change of heart" occurred in November after people started beating him up on it.

If he gets elected he will go back to supporting is CoC clients. The same will occur after the election even if he doesn't get elected.

Hard to tell a Canadian from an extremely boring regular white person unless he's dressed to go

the Queen and illiterate sport fishermen.

It is thought to resemble a sort of arctic Nebraska. It's

Posted by: Skip at January 27, 2016 05:30 PM (hk3Fb)

53 I also really enjoy that irony regarding the RubioEvangelists.
Since Cruz and Trump went head to head since a few days before last debate, Cruz has a tactical flexibility in how to handle this that most others don't enjoy. He's taken him on head to head, in a debate, so he won't come across as a Candy Ass tomorrow.
Rubio, on the other hand, gently saved Trump on the nuclear triad thing. Beyond that, he has chosen not to directly tangle. Now he looks pretty weak if he decides to fire a lot of shots the minute the target is not there to rebut.
Cruz has been here to win all along, and has run a solid campaign. He did the "shake and bake" thing so long as it served his interests. He didn't do the social signalling thing when he was at around 5%, because it would have looked weak. Once he had some strength and it became advantageous/necessary to attack, he attacked. Rubio guys like to spin this as overly calculating, but he is trying to win actual elections, and not nods from the favored crowd; a crowdthat will always hate him anyway.

58 Rupert Murdoch doesn't want Trump to win. He's been sitting in on Roger Ailes' super-secret high level news planning meetings lately. Megyn gave prominent coverage to National Review's hit piece on Trump last week. Tomorrow, Fox was going to have an Islamic militant phone in with questions, the same one who's compared Trump to Hitler.

So Murdoch and Fox were intent on sandbagging Trump tomorrow. Trump's best move was not to show up.

But he will be on with O'Reilly tonight, and Hannity and several other Fox folks are Trump fans. So there's a war on in the Fox News Room. You have to believe there's a lot of jealousy over Megyn, who's traded journalist street cred for celebrity.

Real tell will be the ratings.

Cruz is a very sharp debater, possibly unbeatable, Candy Crowley and shout-downs notwithstanding. Cruz has not made a dumb move since he announced last spring and he is going to definitely unload with rhetorical fury and facts on Trump. It's too bad. They would have been a really great team for America for the next 8 to 16 years. Might still happen, I hope, much as Trump is really irritating me now.

Again, Ace, I gotta agree with you.

157 Outside of the establishment, I can't square all of the Trump hatred. I'm firmly pro-Cruz, and view Trump's entering the race as a boon. The guy has completely nuked much of the PC nonsense and taboo's that we had during the last presidential cycle. Add to that the fact that prior to his entrance, Cruz was the "crazy right-winger". I can't help but think that Trump faded the heat, directly benefiting Cruz (via pure happenstance). Without him, I figure we're looking at Rubio as our leader in the polls.

I don't love Trump, and who knows, my initial thought that he'd fart and fall down, figuratively, may blow up in my face. Maybe we're left with him. But I'll take a guy who's going to piss off the right people, 2nd term be damned, over an effete RINO (namely, most of the others on the stage tonight) that'll put up zero resistance to the incremental slide leftward.

Funny. 'Cause I don't care about you.

Like he's Horatio at the bridge. Get over yourself AmishDude,

I would, but I've never met anybody better.

your vote counts the same amount as mine and millions of others who will be voting for Trump and not the fake conservative Cruz.

My zip code is 500**

You were gone most of this summer. At least I didn't see you comment.

I did. Maybe not much. I did things. There was global warming then. Now I live in my arctic hell and you must suffer with me.

Working on someone's campaign maybe?

Yep, you know me. The brilliant operative posting on a single blog comment section.

You're just a little too worked up about this

Gee, you think? A wannabe-fascist jackass clown who has emboldened the most virulent racist who has no ideas beyond "I'm great" is leading many primary polls and I'm getting "worked up"?

You're goddam right I'm worked up.

Like a campaign volunteer or even someone getting paid.

You have no idea. Mike Murphy brings it to me in wheelbarrows.

You know who the whore is? Rush Limbaugh. He admitted today that he couldn't criticize Trump because they were buddies.

Oh well, how many minds have you changed so far with your blazing wittery and name calling?

A lot of people comment that they're glad somebody's breaking up the Trump circle jerk.

Cruz... really nasty. A really nasty guy that nobody likes and won't work with.
I mean, you can't call McConnell a liar when he clearly lies about things.

Now Harry Reid, the guy who as Majority Leader comes out to the Senate floor and calls American citizens terrorists (or worse) on a daily basis (Tea Partiers, the Koch Bros.), he's someone I've had a great relationship with. Someone I could really work with if he was going to still be around.

242 Eat it, Ace. The difference between a Rubio supporter and a Cruz supporter (or a Trump supporter... the latter two are similar) is that Rubio supporters can admit when their candidate makes a mistake.

Gang of 8 bill? Mistake. Weird "ISIS/security" explanation for pivot on immigration? Mistake.

You will never in a million years see a Cruz or Trump supporter admit that their candidate has made any kind of mistake. They just automatically go into attack mode whenever this occurs. Of course both have made plenty of mistakes, but the cult is strong in the followers of those two men (although it's essentially unfair to lump Cruz and Trump supporters together, since the latter are essentially fully unhinged).

As for Rubio going soft on Trump, that is most definitely true. It pissed me off for the longest time, but now I'm starting to see the genius of it. Why would you antagonize a guy who gets more free air time and press coverage on all the networks and in all the papers than all the other candidates combined?

With that platform, even the most ridiculous negative attacks that Trump engages in will have a negative effect on your favorability ratings as a candidate, as Cruz is finding out with Trump's dumb "he was born in Canada" attacks.

I didn't like the lay low strategy when Cruz practiced it vis-a-vis Trump and I didn't like my candidate doing it either. But now I'm starting to think it might have been the smart move.

We'll see how it turns out. But stick your ninny accusation straight up your keister.

Trump knows most of the debate viewers are there for him, so why share that with the other candidates? And having a Veteran benefit is brilliant tactics, because what are they gonna do, attack him for doing that? Standing up to the media isn't everything. Its something. But I prefer ideology consistency. It would be nice to have both.

That being said, I think Trump is making a smart play here - and I suspect he may rethink it. Going against political convential wisdom has done him well.

I've thought that more people aught to sit out these debates. While I enjoy them, I'm not sure they help certain people (i.e., Perry). Perry would have likely fallen anyway, but the debates certainly didn't help him.

If Trump wants to skip this debate, I think it will likely work to his advantage. I still don't want him as President.

The short version is: maybe people prioritize immigration and border security higher than you do. Out of all of the candidates, who has been strongest on that rhetorically? A friendly reminder for ardent Cruz fans. If the polls are right and Iowa goes the way it looks, try to pull up short of this as the results come in:

Margot Kidder apparently suffered a nervous breakdown in 1996 after a computer virus destroyed three years worth of files stored on her computer's hard drive. Kidder immediately began fearing that her ex-husband was trying to kill her.

Kidder's paranoia caused her to leave her home and live on the street for a few days. After several days of living on the streets, Kidder was discovered hiding in a neighbor's bushes. Kidder had cut her hair short with a safety razor in an effort to disguise herself and the neighbors mistook her for a homeless woman.

Well sure, that's how it works.

Then you have a counter-event in a "safe space".

He's a 20 year old feminist girl in college; right? No?
Oh, well that's how it works for them; I guess he's using that playbook.
Interesting choice.
I'm not sure that playbook has the play for the "tough strong alpha male" image he's looknig for.

I still love that in 2012 he panned others as "lacking courage" for not going to a debate he was moderating; when he was also still considering running.

That sounds like a "biased" moderator; but he didn't seem to think it should matter. Any no-show to his debate "lacked courage".
When interviewed by Megyn Kelly; who he said was a "great debate moderator".

I know that sounds made up... it's not.
There's video at fox of Megyn interviewing Trump over the Newsmax debate in 2012 where candidates were calling in a no-show over Trump both running and moderating.

It's glorious... unless you support Trump.
Then it's probably a bit weird; as you'd hate that guy who is insulting what Trump is doing... but that guy is also Trump.
If you support Trump and have issues with philosophical conundra; maybe give it a pass...

Taxes? That's a new one, but I know

(A) Trump is CURRENTLY for Touchback Amnesty and criticized Romney FROM THE LEFT for his immigration position.

(B) Trump was in favor of taking the Muslim refugees before he changed his mind.

But who knows what Trump is for? It changes from day to day.

Glib first term Senator -- a young man in a hurry -- with an interesting cross-over ethnic identity. Has never had a job that wasn't in politics. The Republican Obama!

When Rubio joined the Gang of Eight it wasn't clear at the time that supporting Amnesty would be a Kiss of Death with the Base. Rubio did so because he wanted a Signature Accomplishment in his first term that he could then tout to show what a Bridge Building Statesman he was when he went for the Iron Throne.

While true, every debate and most every MSM interview offers that kind of opportunity.

When do we get a break from the constant flow of questions derived from the Left's premises? When do we get conservative or even just non-Lefty internet personalities, such as, say, Ace and Bill Whittle to pose a question or two at a televised debate?

I bet the Venn diagram of people who have heard of those YouTube personalities vs. voters who have heard of John Kasich would be two separate circles. If they really wanted an alternate, internertty POV they would have picked some people that GOP voters would know --- and respect.

All they're going to get is another variation of the standard, "Why do you hate Muslims" and "Why do you want to deport all the brown people?" questions that NBC/ABC/CBS/CNN/MSNBC/NPR personalities have already posed.

Here was the plan: Trump pulls a Buchanan 1992. Runs the insurgent campaign. Collects together malcontents of any variety. Gets about 30% against the obvious frontrunner Jeb, who stumbles in a few primaries.

THEN, Trump was supposed to get dissed, run 3rd party in a huff and pull a Perot 1992.

He doesn't even have to campaign hard and, once again, a Clinton skates into the White House in a 3-way race.

Except Jeb didn't comply.

That's simple... I'm confused why you don't get it.Trump wants power and control; and once elected he'll give the people who vote for his policies more power and control themselves; growing government enormously and giving power to both sides as government always does.
After you vote for him, he doesn't need anything from you; so who cares what you want. That is the power of the deal... only work with people who can give you something. After he's elected you can't give him anything, and the establishment can; so he'll work with them and not you. What did people think he meant by "power of the deal"?That he'd show compassion and work for people who can't do anything for him? What sort of stupid dealmaking is that idiocy?

You keep saying that but all I've seen is Trump talk about how we are in deep trouble if we get up to $21 trillion in debt.

He's not going to keep on spending.

People have this insane notion that we need to take away people's social security and never mention the billions and billions we give to third world hell holes and get nothing in return. Etc.

Trump's plan is to turn that on it's ear.

Cruz also doesn't get to tell Trump "you're fired".

But Trump CAN tell FOX they are fired, from being the arbiter of injustice. Megyn making out with Michael Moore was pretty sad, as some suggest she's looking to be a major network anchor.

I guess the Cruz dance on Trump looks good to Cruz folks ... but the 5-10 million that will watch are already on board with him. But we'll see what Iowa does. Rush had pretty good praise for Trump's move.

I wasn't taken in by the plastic Austrian android -- don't blame me, I voted for Tom McClintock -- but enough people sadly were fooled that Ahnuld was soon on his way to the top job in Sackamenna.

And when he doesn't get anything does and says "man this is harder than I thought"... you'll give him a pass, right?

Because he's the best choice possible on that one issue where you won't get anything... it's worth all the issues he's a center-left liberal on to get that issue clarified even if nothing gets done.

"What mistakes has Cruz made"

The "New York values" attack was sloppily-made and allowed The Donald his best moment of the last debate. Yes, yes, I agree with the logic of the Cruz supporters that Trump's riposte was blatant sentimentalism and a ghoulish embrace of 9/11's unifying effect on the country, but that seemed like a net loss for Cruz and it was easily-preventable.

You might also say that abandoning his close hug of Trump too early was a mistake as well, since his negatives have gone up since he started attacking Trump and Trump has returned fire.

And of course his dishonest explanation for his supposed "poison pill" amendment to the Gang of 8 bill was silly and unnecessary, but Rubio is doing his own dissembling on that as well.

Regardless, I still think Cruz will win Iowa. And that's fine with me, even though that's a worst outcome for my candidate. Cruz, whatever else he is, is a conservative and I know he would govern that way. Trump is a liberal in Republican clothing and is not mature enough to be elected dog catcher, much less president.

Nope. Then again, I'm not a Trump supporter. The point that a couple of vocal people keep missing over and over and over is that the other candidates have an actual record on immigration that sucks.

"Oh noes, Trump changed his mind on something!" Yeah, well Rubio did too and did a fuckton more damage in the process than Trump has ever done. Cruz isn't looking so hot in this area either. So while Trump isn't my first choice by a long shot, I don't despise the guy either.

Immigration is relatively easy with existing POTUS power, just tell your law enforcement agencies to put special effort there, creatively prosecute employers under tax fraud if need be. (contrast to the current occupant who is telling his LEOs to lay off the illegals).

As far as policy, aside from amnesty (which is a huge problem) I think he would probably be center right in his governance. The problem is that amnesty is such a huge thing that sticks in people's craw that they have trouble trusting him to do that.

Still, conflating him to Hillary is a bit over the mark, I think.

541 Houston, TX - Operation Rescue has learned new information, some published in a report today by the Associate Press, which indicates the grand jury indictments against David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt were likely in retaliation against Operation Rescue for filing a complaint against Houston abortionist Douglas Karpen, which led to a grand jury investigation of him in 2013.

Josh Schaffer, attorney for Planned Parenthood, informed the news organization that "the grand jury never even voted on possible criminal charges" against Planned Parenthood, according to the AP report.

542 Now I (as a pro Trumper)can at least look at this objectively. I think
there are some here (anti Trumpers) who cannot see what they're doing
and saying with any self awareness.

Well here's the thing, I cannot speak for AmishDude but I for one have tried to use persuasion and logic and reason to talk the anti-Trumpers out of their position. And the pro-Trump position always boils down to the same set of four repetitive arguments:

1. He is a patriot who will BLOW UP THE ESTABLISHMENT!!!

2. The polls say he's winning

3. He's a badass on immigration and that is the only issue that matters ever

And I have tried to go through these arguments and explain why they are flawed, to wit:

1. He's not going to blow up anything, he will cut deals with the establishment instead, he BRAGS about doing so, and in so doing, he will validate the establishment's power and authority

2. Polls are fickle

3. He's actually in favor of touchback amnesty, he's not a hardass on anything, on that score he is even WORSE than Jeb! when it comes to amnesty

And then we lay out our very persuasive arguments on why Trump is a very BAD idea:

1. He's not conservative, not in the slightest

2. He has disturbing authoritarian tendencies which only bodes ill for the potential expansion of already overstretched executive power

3. He has absolutely zero convictions and is only working for the greater glory of Trump, not the Constitution or anything else

4. He's a rude, thin-skinned, boorish narcissist, we've had quite enough of that already in the past 7+ years

And when the response to these very well-intentioned arguments consistently is "I don't care, but but but POLLS!" or "I don't care, but but but ESTABLISHMENT!!!" then I give up with reasoned arguments. At this point the ardent pro-Trumpers are going to vote for Trump based on pure rage and emotion and nothing anyone can say will talk them out of it.

Snort away piggy, you haven't been paying attention.

The majority of Pro Trump people (myself included) will tell you that we're for Trump in the hopes he blows up the GOPe and manages to take a few prisoners along the way.

And so far he's done that. Whether on purpose or not, doesn't matter.

He's moved the discussion to the southern invaders, the Muslim invaders, made PC a bad word and you can see people starting to emulate him in stories in the media. all that was needed was someone important to say it was okay.

He's pointed out how bad McCain is and how he's let down the Vets. He pointed out how we've screwed ourselves on the deals we've made (made by others in our name), He's pointed out how ridiculously weak the GOPe is. He's caused other candidates to agree with his positions. Something they hadn't talked about before.

And the list goes on. I frankly think there's a lot of things wrong about Trump BUT so far he's done better than any of the others in putting forth what people in the country are really concerned about. Whether he'll actually be able to do anything about it if President, who knows?

We never really know what we'll get on the first term until it's all done.

Still waiting for a joke about the anti Trump position.

I suspect the ven diagram of paranoid mentals and Trump's most devoted fans online has a pretty solid overlap. Some of the stuff I read about him sounds a lot like North Korean Propaganda.

Trump knows Cruz has taken the gloves off, and Megyn Kelly won't be easy on him, so instead of doing like Cruz does, and when he hears something objectionable, explaining the problem on the fly, Trump has decided he can't handle the debate.

For this, his fans explain Trump wins all debates, which flies in the face of reason as he's a politician and if he thought he was going to win he would show up.

But whatever. I guess everything Trump does is perfect, and everyone who criticizes him is evil. The Juche Revolution lives on.

Posted by: Tim in GA at January 27, 2016 07:33 PM (2FICM)"

It's bad in this case, yes.

If you make a deal, you need to stick to your word. Trump doesn't do that. He's been sued and lost many times to his former business partners. He's made huge deals and then filed bankruptcy many times, leaving several billion dollars in debts unpaid. A lot of people lost a whole lot because of how Trump makes his money. He doesn't use the free enterprise system> Bankruptcy is inherently about going to the government and getting your obligations interfered with. Doing it repeatedly is a sign of bad faith.

It's a big reason why I don't believe anything Trump is promising us conservatives today on immigration. And after all, how is he going to make "such great deals" with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer without doing something that stabs everyone here in the back?

I know he's somehow earned the support of a lot of extremely devoted folks, but they are going to really regret it if by some fluke he wins the general election.

Some folks support Trump because they are tired of the insider establishment. Those guys need to think carefully about whether Trump actually is the insider establishment. If you pay attention, it's pretty clear who the establishment is afraid of.

678 If Trump's plan is indeed to hold a Wounded Warrior benefit, as the rumors suggest, then it is a brilliant move.

I think there's something you guys who are a predicting it'll turn out poorly for him aren't taking into account. Trump has a lot of supporters... I mean, he is the frontrunner, right?... and he doesn't ask them for money. Well, now he will be asking them for money... but not for him. They'll view this as a chance to give him a donation-by-proxy; they'll get to show their support for Trump and donate to a good cause at the same.

He's going to raise a ridiculous amount of money for a worthy cause, and anyone who slams him for skipping this obvious trap of a debate to hold a charity fundraiser instead will just end up looking like an asshole.

679 Supporting high standards in education is good.
Demanding that the federal government run all education is bad, even if the federal government has high educational standards.

So there is no conflict in wanting high educational standards, but wanting them administered locally.

Federal control of Common Core is a problem but it is not the main problem... the reason so many parents are up in arms is the actual internationalist, pro-Islam, anti-American, illiterate and innumerate curriculum that Rubio has supported. Whether you call it Common Core or Happy Fun Time and whether it is state initiated or federally initiated, that is a problem.
Now I will say states are more willing than the federal government to admit they fucked up and suspend Common Core (or just rename it as Florida did).

682 Y'know, Ace, if you hadn't spent five months deflecting on Trump's behalf because you were all butt-hurt at the Establishment, your rant would've been more effective. Some of us could bash the Establishment and still call Trump on his history of being a lifelong liberal; you didn't, so come on down from the high horse. Just saying.

683 Wounded Warrior has had a double-awful no good very bad day today. I'll never contribute again. Con men are us.

I guess withTrump it's the thought that counts.

Posted by: mnw (fair and ballast) at January 27, 2016 08:55 PM (130AC)

684 #682: Actually, Ace has been saying recently that he does like Trump; he just likes Cruz more. I think he's a little angry right now about feeling like he has to choose between the two, and he's directing some of that anger at Trump (the one he likes less out of the two), which is completely understandable.

Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler... Trump/Camacho 2016! at January 27, 2016 08:59 PM (0OG8D)

685 #683: So, you'll never again donate to Wounded Warrior, or whatever charity Trump decides to support with this fundraiser, because they'll be accepting money from people like... me, just a regular guy who happens to support Donald Trump for President.

Wow, I wasn't expecting to see an example of what I was talking about in comment #678 so quickly!

Yah, I would support wounded warriors even if they called Trump (or Cruz) every name in the book all day long. Their mission is righteous and they accomplish that mission effectively and with little overhead. Support for a Presidential candidate is not more important than that.

Posted by: redbanzai at January 27, 2016 09:21 PM (NPofj)

687 OTOH, Scott Adams (think Dilbert) thinks this will turn out to be a win for Trump.

690 My comment about Wounded Warrior was misunderstood & that's my fault.

WW was the subject of a lengthy WaPo investigation-- the first part of the article ran today.

They're administrative expenses are scandalously high, compared to their charitable distributions.

That's what I meant. I wrongly assumed that others saw the same expose I read.

I'll give to other mil charities now instead-- the Steinbrenner Special Forces one (Warrior Fund ?, for example).

Posted by: mnw (fair and ballast) at January 27, 2016 10:15 PM (130AC)

691 1) When the ratings and poll numbers come in, have the dignity to admit you were wrong and the strategy clearly quite shrewd.

2) If you are running, and you rely on Trump's presence at the debates to get you high ratings and increase name recognition for the general AND you are NOT Trump, then you've already lost.

Posted by: Rick Tingles at January 27, 2016 10:23 PM (OBGEb)

692 Oh, okay; your comment makes more sense now, MNW. I thought you were basically saying, "screw them if they're willing to take money from Trumpkins."

My first thought on hearing about this investigation (and this is indeed the first I've heard of it) is, is this politically motivated? Is this newspaper, which generally falls into the "liberal rag" category, merely going after the WWP because the WWP generally serves a cause to which conservatives are more likely to be sympathetic?

Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler... Trump/Camacho 2016! at January 27, 2016 10:23 PM (0OG8D)

693
So Trump dissed Fox News?

So who else disses Fox News? Democrats, lots and lots of Democrats.

Trump is already at 20% of Democrat voters. His biggest applause line has been dumping on "media."

Now that he's dumping on Fox, won't one expect him to gain MORE Democrat support?
He's building a new coalition and breaking down the old Red/Blue stalemate.

It\s called a "wave election."

Catch it!

694 mnw... I didn't see any expose but Charity Navigator and other groups that do charity over site give WW pretty good ratings.

Posted by: redbanzai at January 27, 2016 10:35 PM (NPofj)

695 Fiorina and a wealthy Cruz supporter are now both offering seven-figure donations to Wounded Warriors on the condition that Trump agrees to debate them one-on-one in separate events.

My out-there-on-a-limb prediction? None of the candidates on stage tomorrow night will attack Trump for not being there.

Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler... Trump/Camacho 2016! at January 27, 2016 11:10 PM (0OG8D)

696 Carly is offering a $2M donation if Trump forgoes his fundraiser and debates her instead during the time he's set aside for it.

"I'm free at 8pm", she says.

I think Trump will raise way more money for WWP by holding the fundraiser instead.

Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler... Trump/Camacho 2016! at January 27, 2016 11:17 PM (0OG8D)

697 So Trump is using vets for his little one on none debate.

But the new little dig on Trump is that he never donated to vets before. A billionaire and totally AWOL on charity for veterans. But now he'll bask in the glory of his charity work because it benefits him to do so.

Such a pathetic politician. And draft dodger.

698 "WW was the subject of a lengthy WaPo investigation-- the first part of the article ran today.

They're administrative expenses are scandalously high, compared to their charitable distributions. "

It seems wrong to call that a scam, as they do help folks, but they are not just in in it for the veterans. They are in it as a business and making a lot of money for themselves. I hope they sort it out, but I would donate to other causes.

At any rate, Trump uses the cause because it looks great on TV, but is he legitimately interested in helping vets? He's incredibly wealthy and hasn't donated to veterans in the past. Instead, he gives to the Clinton foundation.

Shrewd, sure. Worthy, hell no.

"2) If you are running, and you rely on Trump's presence at the debates to get you high ratings and increase name recognition for the general"

Somehow people have won elections in the past without your Dear Leader. You do know that, right? The world does not revolve around the guy. It is downright crazy how some of y'all talk to him.

Trump himself said candidates are disloyal to voters if they skip debates. He bashed them harshly for it in 2012. Now he breaks his own standards. So what if it's shrewd? The man doesn't know the meaning of honor.

Posted by: Dustin at January 28, 2016 01:12 AM (a7sQX)

699 How do you know Trump hasn't given to veterans in the past?

I hear it was Trump that got Tamoreesi out of the Mexican prison system. Trump hasn't talked about it, though.

701 Don't forget that Rubio also signed onto the idea that Universities try people accused of sexual misconduct which changes innocent until proven guilty to proove you are innocent.

Posted by: Davod at January 28, 2016 06:39 AM (FWznJ)

702 The Rube-bots are a funny sort. Their candidate is a hopeless lightweight with no path to victory, so they come up with Rube-io Goldberg contraptions to show how he could get there in theory.

Rubio's political future died the day he played lapdog for Schumer, the Democrats and the GOPe. The latter will kick this Nancy Boy to the curb after he loses Iowa and New Hamsphire and try to reanimate either a zombie Bush or Kasich or Christie in South Carolina. Meanwhile, his fangurls will come up with proof positive about how he can win---really, he can!

It was a smart move by Trump.
He avoids an ambush and his Main Street cred increases.

Bullshit. He looks like a third rate pussy who is afraid of a "third rate reporter who isn't very good at her job". You think he'll stand up to Pelosi or Schumer? or, right, he'll cut them deals.

Plus, if he pulls off a huge rally that raises money for charity while the other shitbags are debating on what to call muslim extremists, Trump wins huge.

A charity that's not particularly...what's the word? efficient at giving the donations to the actual intended recipients? that charity? they're not as bad as the Bill-Hill-Chelsea monstrosity, but they make sure they get their cut of the vig. Everyone would be better served if the proceeds went to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
