I've watched it twice and have added it to my 'Favorites' file at You Tube.Dinesh D'Souza handles a young man as he should be handled: With a big fat bat-of-truth and mocking and, I hope, in doing so, sent the young man off to do a bit of introspective thinking. D'Souza actually did the young man a big favor by introducing him to adult life, where people expect you to have a clue before you open your mouth. He's so used to not having to defend himself and his "ideas", because Amherst, that he couldn't defend, or even offer, a simple proposition. To his credit, he knew early on that he was in big trouble, unlike the faculty, who are never challenged on their idiocy because the have the power of grades, and so don't realize just how stupid they are. The fat harridan in the foreground, who is probably one of his "Studies" professors, tried a golf clap to whip up the crowd, but they had no interest in jumping in front of the bus D'Souza was driving.

I was really hoping she would open her fat mouth, because D'Souza would have humiliated her. Instead, she chose to let him take the humiliation, reinforcing the point that libs want other people to pay the price for their own follies. Regardless of we see, what a progressive leftist will see is "Confident and direct young Party member, encouraged by a consensus of his peers and educators, challenges and humiliates noted racist Dinesh D'Souza, who scrambles for explanations and becomes agitated and violent. Possibly rapey". This is how the headlines are written.

**** I am now on my third viewing and, upon the first, felt discomfort for the young man. Upon the second viewing I realized that D'Souza may be the first adult to ever be honest and frank with him. The kid seems like a sponge and eager to learn and to act and his professors have taken advantage of that fact. Not only has D'Souza provided a free education re the facts of the argument, but an education re the cruel realities of life outside the protective womb of university life. He will either have to prepare himself for battle before launching into another SJW diatribe, or learn to evaluate his position prior to doing so. He has been bestowed a great honor that will, if he chooses to accept it, give him a leg up in life against his fellow students. Posted by: Vic-we have no party IMO, that's exactly what he did. D'Souza could have let him off with the humiliation of watching his argument being dismantled in public, but instead proceeded to call him a hypocrite and a spoiled baby. (paraphrasing) Again, the young man needs to learn from this and hopefully will start questioning his profs and their BS. Posted by: pep at December 12, 2015 11:34 AM (LAe3v) 16
He's against white privilege, yet why did he tutor 'disadvantaged' youths? To get more white privilege and be accepted into Amherst.
What is he getting with his impassioned little speech? More white privilege. Why choose Amherst and not Western New England University? More white privilege. Posted by: t-bird at December 12, 2015 11:35 AM (mxCgt) 17
On the one hand, the kid wasn't being an asshole the way I've seen with some of these "Q and A" sessions featuring conservative speakers. On the other, he had obviously consumed mass quantities of Kool-Aid which rendered him completely clueless.

Furthermore, the young man, intelligent as he is, knows this, but has internalized other paradoxical justifications of his belief system, chiefly that individual acts of charity are useless. Hence the insistence on his inequality problem being "systemic" in nature. The individual is powerless: only a systemic response can affect the systemic problem.
And so they must have great faith, and turn over their lives to a higher power: the government, their god. It is their catechism. It's a religion, and should be called as much. Posted by: Ghost of kari at December 12, 2015 11:40 AM (rT2rj) 24

I can't be too hard on the kid. I'm thinking this is the first time in his life that he's heard something other than the usual left-wing bullshit and hypocrisy. Up to this point, he had absolutely no clue that the progressive view could ever be challenged.

What I liked most about D'Souza's argument is that it was a very masculine sort of argument:
-no quarter given to the stupidity of the student's argument -no softening or pat on the head to make the student feel better just a straight forward dismantling -humor and mockery used to hammer home his points directly -no anger, a simple direct logical refutation made with joy and good humor...ie. a happy warrior. Too bad that nitwit probably didn't learn anything. I'm sure his "helicopter professor" and others SJW-assholes swarmed around him afterward to kiss his intellectual boo-boos and smother his humiliation with reassurances that he's really, really you guys, smart. All too make sure the student didn't have a moment of self-reflection and start thinking double plus ungood mind thoughts. Posted by: naturalfake at December 12, 2015 11:44 AM (KUa85) 34

The other useful aspect of D'Souza's response is pointing out the whole issue of impracticality. "sent the young man off to do a bit of introspective thinking."
Nope, the young man went off to do some seething and rage against the unbeliever who won't listen to reason and who won't listen to the facts. An unbeliever who won't accept the truth, rejects the truth even when it is presented to him. The young man now clings even more resolutely to his superior knowledge and vows to get revenge for the insult. but d'souza's accusation of hypocrisy is not a convincing response for me.
------------------- Why? The kid felt that he was laying before D'Souza a case for (in essence) reparations. D'Souza pointed out that history evolves as history evolves. Life is not fair, and while we might strive to abolish inequities, in a free society there will always be 'disparate outcomes'. It is one thing to say that some people are better off than others, it is another thing to compel compensation to those less fortunate. When that happens, then we are no longer a free society. Forced egalitarian social structures always end badly. Clearly, I think, society in America has improved in the context of a level playing ground. Changes do not occur overnight. As I listened to him, I got the sense that he had come into the session
with his talking points strung together in sequence, like beads on a string, to use the GI Bill inequality to justify a broader redistribution. Initially he recited his points in proper sequence, but after D'Souza snipped the strand holding the beads together the kid started scrambling to gather his beads back together into a cohesive string and lost his strand of thought quite a bit. He was scrambling there at the end. Nice analogy. Posted by: pep at December 12, 2015 12:04 PM (LAe3v) 86

But, answer the question! The Brits in Malaya!
The kid posits that the GI Bill of Rights college tuition benefits were refused to blacks, and that all the American prosperity of the postwar era was due to veterans getting college degrees. Right up front, that's what he's saying when the show comes on. d'Souza should have jumped on that right there, before or instead of jumping on back to slavery and us Injuns. Don't leave them an out by walking away from their One New Big Fact. Black college enrollment more than tripled between 1940 and 1950. And in response to college segregation in the south, funding to HBCU was vastly increased -- in 1946. From my little farmstead, I'd gut any sonofabitch who said all the white veterans immediately went to college. My father and his two brothers never got that, and they all ended up (ended up, mind you, it took 30 or 40 years) well off. Only one relative of mine ever got VA college bennies, my mother's Famous Artiste brother, and he ended up just as you'd expect, a bitter commie coddled by the State, cut off from and yearning for his real birthright half a continent away. So there is that. Posted by: Stringer Davis at December 12, 2015 12:10 PM (xq1UY) 101

*** He's using his words. Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at December 12, 2015 11:40 AM (PMlgt) You just brought up a terrible flash-back. When my kids were little, they took music lessons at a studio that offered a variety of instruments. The receptionist was a vocal liberal, who upon hearing my husband was serving in Afghanistan, proceeded to lecture me about why we had to fight, and why, since we are adults, we couldn't just "use our words." I explained that "using your words" only works when both sides agree to do it, and have the moral resolve to live by the agreement reached. When one side uses words, and the other side uses bombs and guns and suicide vests, it's hard to have a civil conversation. She then tried to tell me it was our fault, because we used the bombs first. There is no helping some people. You just have to let them fail. Posted by: Moki at December 12, 2015 12:14 PM (7q2ch) 110

It is partly true. GI Bill use was lower among Blacks. I think the home purchase loan guarantees were difficult to get for them. They also had difficulty getting into college because many lived in the South, and most schools were segregated (thanks Democrats!). So utilization was also lower because of that. Eh, happy warriors do something that drive the activists crazy: they show that all their anger and vitriol won't work. This Amherst kid was polite and reasonable, and willing to at least pretend to discuss this with Dinesh.
Too often the Left instead chooses to shout down wrongthink speakers with in-your-face slurs or chants to drown them out. A speaker who does not get flustered, who treats someone like that kid as Dinesh did shows that conservatives aren't the monsters you've been told they are. They *will* call you out on your faulty arguments, but they won't treat you like your Lefties friends would had you wandered off the reservation. In fact, I'll add an anecdote from my idiotic past. I took a speech class in college and didn't know what to talk about, so I picked up some agit-prop from a booth in the student union. I read that Nestle was being evil about infant milk formula in Africa. (I believe I have dated myself rather precisely). I was mildly ambitious, so I reached out to Nestle to get their side of the story. Didn't hear back from them, so I based my speech on the research I'd got from the agit-prop people and whatever magazine articles I'd found. I was literally leaving my room to go give the speech when the phone rang and a Nestle PR guy was there to refute all of my arguments. I'm sorry, did I say refute? I meant destroy, demolish, bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate. Now, I had to go give my speech and I didn't have time to re-write it but I knew I had been destroyed. There's some learning to be had in that. Posted by: Bandersnatch at December 12, 2015 12:15 PM (1xUj/) 114

The other technique D'Souza used that I have found effective (to a degree) on the infrequent occasions when I actually engage with people like my lefty brother, is the "Let's stop there for a moment." at a crucial point in the memorized script and deconstructing one key element of the kid's argument. If you can derail the train before it leaves the station you can save a lot of unnecessary verbal mileage.
I usually end up walking my brother back to a basic premise of human nature or the human condition where he either agrees with me (and hence has to backtrack on his entire argument) or he admits that he disagrees with me and we agree that further discussion is pointless. (e.g. "So do you believe in the notion that Man is entitled to Life and the means to preserve and protect his/her own life, and if not, why not?" is not a bad starting point. So much follows from that premise.) Posted by: Seamus Muldoon at December 12, 2015 12:16 PM (NeFrd) 117

Lefties have a lot more support, including from people like me, if they would keep their defense of injustice to the stuff they see in front of them.
They can't because, as D'Sousa pointed out, the folks who walked the line 40 years ago won all those battles already. We have, essentially, equality in this country. So now what? Kids in college are idiots. At least the ones in secular colleges. Maybe the religious colleges too. Who knows. White people need to stop with the self-abasement. The white race
created the modern world, and we have nothing to apologize for. Whites didn't invent slavery. That has existed since the Stone Age. No, but white people ENDED it. Tell me, has any nation other than America fought a war amongst its dominant racial class to free a subordinate one? Where did the idea of abolition originate? Every culture, people, race, however you want to group people together, has practiced slavery until white people came along and said "This is wrong". The extent to which slavery is recognized as evil, and condemned, TODAY, is because of white people. I hate racial arguments, but that right there is a fact. Reparations almost make sense on the face of it, but we have paid a lot. Reading Horowitz's article abolishes those arguments.
http://archive.frontpagemag.com/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=24317 The USA seems like the only place where being victorious means paying the "loser". After WW2 we helped Germany and Japan, and forgave a lot of debt. The American Indians fought each other and took the spoils of war, till they "lost" to an advanced civilization. But many American Indians adapted and married into the white society and prospered, like Elizabeth Warren's ancestors. ha If blacks in America lag behind because of white oppression (privilege), why is black Africa in such terrible condition? Obama's half brother wished the Brits had stayed in Kenya longer, to develop it more, as they did South Africa (before it was turned over to commie terrorist Mandela). And despite one unfair element (GI bills), if we are going to grant privileges based on each individual case (while we can't even do Pigford correctly), what about almost every non-black American that has grievances, where they were screwed by some banker/lawyer/politician, and lost their farm or other golden opportunity, to a connected "player" using influence? White privilege didn't apply to all whites, or even most. For the last 20 years life is more unfair to the white Christian male in many ways, and the greatest harm to blacks is from LBJ's great society, and his insidious plan to "keep those ni***s voting Democrat for 200 years." Hope SCOTUS stops the practice of pushing average blacks into advanced colleges, so we can in time stop with the destructive diversity hires. One question I have is why there are so few people of African descent living in middle-eastern countries.
Oh, they're there. As slaves. Over the past 12 centuries, Arab Muslims have enslaved over 150 million blacks from Africa. The mortality rate during shipment back to the middle east has traditionally been horrific: greater than 80 %. One hundred and twenty million black folks slaughtered by Muslims while being delivered into slavery, and it continues to this day. Tell me again how America's sin of 900K slaves imported* was the wort thing in the history of the world. Go on, tell me. *Note I am not attempting to excuse American slavery, it was a grave stain on our nation's honor, and a hideous sin. I am trying to bring some perspective to the subject, however. I can live with the sociology and political science classes, but the "x studies" courses have got to go. They're just a drain on college, a pyramid scheme that lets graduates with no useful skills or knowledge find a job perpetuating nonsense and lies. Colleges should be free to discuss any ideas, but nonsense and trash shouldn't be done on the student's dime. Cutting trash courses, cutting administration costs, and reducing the palatial beauty of the campus would go a long ways toward reducing student debt. I think the young man probably really is a decent guy at heart. The problem is that these leftists are taking advantage of the natural idealism of youth to convince them that "doing good" is spouting Marxist idiocy. Youthful idealism, their sincere desire to make the world better, is also what drove young men to enlist after 9/11, after Pearl Harbor. It can be a powerful force for good. But if you take impressionable minds and twist their ideas of what good is, you end up with SJWs. This kid has probably never heard views like D'Sousa's. It's not his fault he's had his head stuffed with leftist cliches. Now that just about everything that could go wrong has gone wrong there seems to a divide; those who wish to fight against a different sect of Islam in some Holy War, and those who wish to flee. There's a learning curve in this experience. By permitting, by easing restrictions, by even opening their arms (Germany) to those who wish to flee the world is only delaying that learning curve by Muslims. Perhaps 'delaying' is too passive a verb. Quite possibly there will be no learning whatsoever. The fire in the middle east may never be extinguished. The best part, was when D'Souza challenges the kid to give up his spot - and the kid essentially says that's not on the table... and D'Souza again says he should do it... the turd ball in the front row begins to complain that the kid had shut that down... as if it because he says its not on the table, it's not fair to use.
But as we know - D'Souza struck right at the heart... you had an advantage? Well then.... you give it up first, give your stuff away first. Socialism is for the people, not the socialist. Posted by: Reality Man at December 12, 2015 04:26 PM (BNEdd) 384
So the soft-headed white kid says he warn't talking about affirmative action, although he was talking about reparations, which is the opposite side of the same coin.
What D' Souza should have followed up with is "But even though you claim you can account for the amount of money that was ill gained, who confirms those numbers impartially? Further, are you willing to bankrupt businesses, throw countless people out of work and wreck the economy of the country to achieve this? No? Then what you want to do is dump the whole problem on the taxpayers of the country and now you people who had absolutely nothing to do with these ill gotten gains paying the reparations, which in turn becomes an ill gotten gain themselves." Simply put, these morons are great at making high sounding moral arguments that don't turn out to be so moral when reality rears its ugly head. Posted by: Thresherman at December 12, 2015 04:42 PM (fjnRw) 385
Sadly, I wasn't that impressed. D'Souza waffled a bit, but settled on Kant's "Categorical Imperative" to ultimately rebuff the question. Sadly, he missed out on an opportunity to really educate the kid by pointing out that nearly every one of the premises for his question was false, and that every Social Justice remedy creates side-effects more cruel than a system where government supports rights rather than outcomes.
It is interesting to note that the kid's litany of woe starts out at the end of WWII. Putting this into perspective, Truman desegregated the military in 1948. "Brown v. Board of Education", ending "separate but equal" in education, followed in 1954. John F. Kennedy signed executive order 90125 to force the government and its contractors to pursue "affirmative action" in 1961. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was followed by the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Fair Housing Act of 1968. It seems like serious people were taking a look at issues in a serious way and doing serious things to make society more fair. And yet, this kid is pointing to this very time-frame as a period to be atoned-for. I suppose it's a "shooting-fish-in-a-barrel" thing because you can claim the entire period as "raaaay-cist" because sensible people were remedying racial biases at the time. One can claim that the administration of the GI Bill was racially unbalanced, without noting that it was passed in 1944 -- specifically for the veterans of WWII. And certainly, the fact that fewer than 100 mortgages guaranteed by the act were taken by non-whites looks bad.....but completely ignores the fact that there were only 67,000 mortgages guaranteed by THAT version of the "GI Bill". There was a 1952 flavor for Korean War vets that was more equitable; there was a 1966 act which gave benefits to military veterans who didn't necessarily serve in a specific war (huge, and leading to annual congressional meddling); there were further major changes in 1972 and 1985. Though conflated in popular memory, the trend is clear -- when the rules were demonstrably unfair, they got changed. Posted by: cthulhu at December 12, 2015 04:48 PM (EzgxV) 386

Although I agree with DS on the existence of the hypocrisy, not sure it was the most direct response to the kid's ultimate suggestion of maintaining a safety net as a response to the "inequities". The devil is in the details as far as what that constitutes, but DS's response seemed more directed at a different suggestion. The kid did invoke grievances and numeric values attainable, but ultimately seemed to suggest a more general "safety net" as opposed to a reparations scheme. Although I like a lot of DS's thoughts, this is not the first time I've seen him do something like this. He gets especially disconnected when he delves into religious matters. I gather that no one has DIRECTLY refuted the Amherst robot kid.
YES, white's got privilege for serving in World War II(thanks to Democrat president Wilson's racist policies) - in combat, risking their lives, and roughly a quarter million died. Mostly, they planted in some foreign country. Blacks - with rare exceptions - could not and did not serve in combat. So, perhaps that life risking difference was just recompense? Still not enough? Then consider that blacks, when they did serve in combat, like in Vietnam War, did get the same benefits. Clearly, the WWII beneficiaries are almost all dead today. But not the Vietnam veterans. The point being, the injustice - such as it may have been - was later rectified. Finally, much of the benefits accruing to the WWII generation, as well as the silent gen, came because of almost 15 years of pent-up consumer demand (as well as savings) from the federally imposed sacrifice of the needlessly prolonged "Great" Depression. Was this a historical accident? Or a plot against the People by...Democrats? Posted by: Orson at December 13, 2015 01:39 AM (seY+h) 402
I think it goes beyond hypocrisy. There is a always at war with eastasia aspect. The grievances are never meant to be resolved; only stoked. Hence; the SJW doesn't understand when pressed about actual sacrifice. In part because they may unconsciously assume if serious action somehow were to be taken on the issue they'd be exempt... but closer to the surface; because they don't expect serious action to ever be taken. The threat of it or minor action are all that are required to keep people divided and angry.

Is that the kid in the video responding? Posted by: Scott M at December 13, 2015 02:25 AM (/W6zg) 406
D'Souza would be the Islamopanderer, right?

That was Outstanding. He really nailed this twit.

The kid is intelligent, but brainwashed.

Weird. I stumbled upon this clip two days ago. D'Souza is an absolutely devastating debater. Watching this was like LeBron James play one on one against a rec league 12 year old. Like, it's not even fair. The mercy rule should have been invoked two minutes in.
Just for everyone's information, the full two hour vid of his Q&A with the students is also on YouTube and worth seeing. The old harpy wildly gesticulating in the video is actually not a professor, she's a student. And a particularly incoherent one at that. Seems to me that if you fall back on "safety net", you are taking the easy way out of your argument.
Nobody in that room is going to be satisfied with a "safety net", they want full wealth transfer. Posted by: Reality Man at December 13, 2015 08:17 AM (BNEdd) 411
OMG what a fucking blowhard.
I'm not sure he "destroyed" the kid. Frankly, the nonsense that kid believes is probably impervious to logic and reality. "I tutored minorities". Oh, how fucking special of you. Posted by: deadrody at December 13, 2015 09:57 AM (q72NU) 412

deadrody,
I think he did destroy the young man. At the end, he purposely singled him out after earlier establishing by the young man's own admission that he was the beneficiary of white privilege. What, after admitting his white privilege, could he possibly gave as an answer other than 'yes'? The young man knew he was in trouble hence his request for someone else to question and his looking around for someone to throw him a lifeline. Since everyone in the room knew he was toast, he started in with just a lot of circular verbiage and an attempt at misdirection..... Posted by: Tom in CA at December 13, 2015 10:52 AM (me6Q+) 414
I'm not sure if anyone has said the same, but...
I was waiting for D'Souza to point out to this kid: Upon taking advantage of his own white privilege and at some point being rewarded for the privilege of attending college, by this kids logic, the piece of paper he will receive upon graduation is further historical documentation and proof of injustice. Knowing that, given your realization of this injustice, are you (this kid) willing to live with yourself, or will you do your part to correct injustice by declining a reward based upon injustice? You can see that everyone thought that they had a ringer to confront the argument, but he was no match for the champ.

If this kid feels so guilty, he should go into the service.

It was apparent that the grey haired woman in the sweater next to the student was his SJW adviser at Amherst.

That was so painful. I didn't know that "White Privilege" actually means "White Retard."

The amazing thing about this is that the participants in the room allowed both parties to speak without interruption. I have more respect for Amherst now than I did before. Admittedly, that's a low bar ...

Not so sure that the G.I. Bill discriminated against blacks to the extent that student thinks that it did. Yes, there was discrimination in how it was supplied, but many black also benefited. In short, the record of history is more mixed than the SJW types are willing to admit: http://diverseeducation.com/article/8298/
