Three pipe-bombs were bundled together as one (like a clutch of dynamite). They were put on to a remote control car, but the gizmo didn't work. (He wasn't clear if it was the RC car that didn't work, or the ignition for the pipe-bombs.) The cops fired 380 rounds at them in the pursuit. The terrorists fired 65-75 rounds at the cops. There were 12 pipe bombs at the house in Redlands. The handguns were legally purchased (as I guess he had no criminal history) and the AR-15 type weapons (not really AR-15s, but that style) were legally purchased but not by the shooters. So this may be a straw-purchase situation -- which, um, isn't actually a legal purchase, then. They'll be following up to find out who helped this guy get his guns. California has the strictest gun control laws in the country. AR-15 type weapons can actually be bought, but only in a "California legal" configuration. I think this means, mostly, that the gun's magazine can only hold 10 rounds, and not a more typical 20 or 30. The cop says they do not know yet if these particular guns were California legal, or, as I'm suspecting, straw-purchased by a friend or Online Hybrid Workplace Jihad Consultant and then given to Syed and Tashfeer. Tashfeer is in the country on a K-1 visa, under a Pakistani passport. A K-1 visa is used to bring over fiancees. This is beginning to smell very much like a scam -- I'm thinking this woman is not merely a fiance who "became radicalized." 'Cause IMO the former case indicates that the party was the target, the second case would indicate that the decision to shoot up the party was ad-hoc, and perhaps they were originally targeting something else.

I was discussing this with a friend while in a random small town a couple weeks ago. I think this tact is unlikely for two reasons.
One, small town people are more likely to be armed and there's no way to know who or how many. That means Mr Jihadi has to risk being gunned down by his third or fourth target and being forgotten in a day. And the population isn't dense enough to justify a larger team.
Two, middle easterners can roam big cities and not be out of place. But in Whitebread McPodunk, they would face constant attention, if not scrutiny (and even of a benign "don't see one of them every day" sort would make launching a sneak attack difficult).

.I am retired and go to the range a couple times a week and it is not unusual for me to burn through 300-500 rounds in a week if I am in the mood. I typically have about 100 rounds loaded in mags when I walk in the door, and those never last long.

Just off the top of my head, here are three cases where "normal" Muslims just up and went sudden Jihad.
Major Hassan--joined the military (what could be more "American?"; became a doctor (shoots to hell the "poverty theory of Muslim extremism)
Tsareneav brothers--involved in athletics, American friends, good-looking (at least the Rolling Stone poster-boy), girlfriends
Syed Farook--American citezen, worked for local government, liked cars and sports and guns.
I know plenty of Muslim guys just like this. Normal, have jobs, friendly. Hell, I know one who loves Johnny Cash--I burned CDs for him. How are you going to know when one decides to go Jihad? They simply cannot be trusted. They are not like any other immigrant group--past or present.

Major Hassan--joined the military (what could be more "American?"; became a doctor (shoots to hell the "poverty theory of Muslim extremism)
Tsareneav brothers--involved in athletics, American friends, good-looking (at least the Rolling Stone poster-boy), girlfriends
Syed Farook--American citezen, worked for local government, liked cars and sports and guns.
I know plenty of Muslim guys just like this. Normal, have jobs, friendly. Hell, I know one who loves Johnny Cash--I burned CDs for him. How are you going to know when one decides to go Jihad? They simply cannot be trusted. They are not like any other immigrant group--past or present.

Their are several ways to have a CA legal AR.
One way is to have a fixed magazine. The way this is done is with a "bullet button", basically a magazine release that requires a tool (a bullet, for example) to function.
A "bullet button" type release can be removed and replaced in about 5 minutes. Probably less if you practice. It is not uncommon for CA AR-15 owners to convert their rifles to proper function while traveling in other states where it is legal to do so.
Bullet buttons also exist for othe rpopular rifles, like AKs, FN-FALs, etc.
One neat thing about this is that the citizens figured this out. Gun companies produced bastard guns with sealed magazine wells. The whole off list lower effort and the solutions to the CA law were figured out by gun owners and small buisness (often started by those seeing the problem and the solution).

One way is to have a fixed magazine. The way this is done is with a "bullet button", basically a magazine release that requires a tool (a bullet, for example) to function.
A "bullet button" type release can be removed and replaced in about 5 minutes. Probably less if you practice. It is not uncommon for CA AR-15 owners to convert their rifles to proper function while traveling in other states where it is legal to do so.
Bullet buttons also exist for othe rpopular rifles, like AKs, FN-FALs, etc.
One neat thing about this is that the citizens figured this out. Gun companies produced bastard guns with sealed magazine wells. The whole off list lower effort and the solutions to the CA law were figured out by gun owners and small buisness (often started by those seeing the problem and the solution).
That's why I like Mini 14s. They are not on the list. No pistol grip

I'd say Trump has about four cubic light years' more executive experience that Cruz and Rubio combined. They might go after Trump on other grounds, but lack of experience - at least as an executive, as opposed to a politician - isn't one of them.

The "Roster" screws badly with new handgun sales, though it may be about to fail legally. It's a list of "approved" guns that has dwindled badly and limits new sales (with a loophole or two).
All sales are registered, non-FFL sales are prohibited entirely. New purchases or transfers of standard-capacity magazines are prohibited but a couple of loonie cities (like LA) prohibited possession at all, which is probably illegal as a law (challenges pending).
Scary Rifles are restricted in bizarre ways - the "registered" old normal versions purchased before 2000 are subject to use and transport regulations, and new ones subject to configuration restrictions ("permanently" affixed short magazine or lack of certain features like a flash hider or normal grip that extends below the receiver).
It's a bizarre spaghetti of laws, most of which face challenges (several successful challenges so far have reduced the burden, but the state has frankly ignored some).

Magazines over 10 rounds are illegal unless they were owned prior to 1/1/2000. Los Angeles just went even further and outlawed all magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds, including the ones that were owned prior to the 2000 ban.
Dumb-ass laws written by stupid people who don't know and don't care. I doubt any of the San Bernadino jihadi's weapons were inconvenienced by any of the above.
