The broadcast indicated there were unconfirmed reports the suspects were male and of Middle Eastern origin, “armed with AK-47s and wearing body armor.” The broadcast was part of a region-wide alert issued by the San Bernardino Police Department.They say that's unconfirmed, of course. I think its an alright idea. You could wind up relying on it too much, but its probably great for a house gun esp at night if you need to acquire target quickly at close range. Problems are if the batteries run out, if the bad guy sees it and can react quickly.

From not an expert but holiday inn express, etc; I think the notion is that the laser dot is at best a confirmation and at worst a distraction to forming a good site picture.
The one time I shot with a laser on a practical course I was completely enamored, but I had never even heard of gun lasers 10 minutes before shooting one (1993.) I hit everything but if someone told me layer that I actually slowed down in the process of playing laser pointer instead of aiming the gun I would tend to believe them.

I've found that when I'm shooting quite a bit, and dialed in??? Lasers slow me down...
But, when I'm not shooting much? Even though a bit slower, I'm more on target... which is important for home defense...
Plus... I'd think the intimidation factor of a dialed in laser would be a plus in some situations...

My dad got on the no-fly list because he has the same name as an IRA terrorist. Had to provide all sorts of documentation to prove he wasn't the same guy. Even still, he has an ID# from TSA he must present when flying - so not removed.

I've found that when I'm shooting quite a bit, and dialed in??? Lasers slow me down...
But, when I'm not shooting much? Even though a bit slower, I'm more on target... which is important for home defense...
Plus... I'd think the intimidation factor of a dialed in laser would be a plus in some situations...

The point is to hit, for sure. And slow is fast, if one is connecting.
I have to think that red dot sights are vastly superior to lasers. You get the effect of a very visible aim point, no parallax, but they don't shine out and do tend to keep you holding the weapon more or less in the correct position.
But I'm not going to stick a red dot on my carry gun either.
I think I'd prefer a bright light to a laser if I was going to add something to carry.

worst a distraction to forming a good site picture.
The one time I shot with a laser on a practical course I was
completely enamored, but I had never even heard of gun lasers 10 minutes
before shooting one (1993.) I hit everything but if someone told me
layer that I actually slowed down in the process of playing laser
pointer instead of aiming the gun I would tend to believe them.

I have a laser/light on my main pistol and I find it useful - but I can also see why it could be a distraction as well. Fundamentally you can only aim with one focus point at a time - so either you trust and aim with the the sights or you trust and aim with the laser point. For me the sights are what I'm used to and what I have the most faith in. So the laser dot is really just a confirmation.
The laser is most helpful for long shots where small changes in aiming have a big effect on POI. But then really how often are you trying for a head shot at 40+ feet. Lasers might also have some benefit as an intimidation factor since if you're pointing a gun at someone with a laser, they assume from the movies that you're an expert with it.

What's not to believe? Tons of cops and feral government quasi-military instituted de facto martial law by Boston, had the tsarnaevs cornered, fired thousands of shots ... and the tsarnaevs still got away on foot - well, one did, as he had run over his brother earlier. All this happened while we heard reports that they were driving around in their SUV tossing pressure cooker grenades out - as if anyone with a brain would even entertain such a nutty story. In the end, neither the cops nor the feral govenrment army guys got the joker, even after having locked down and in-house imprisoned all of the innocent civilians.
No ... cops and the feds pretty much suck at catching suspects on the run, if the suspects had done any little bit of planning, at all.

At this juncture I agree with Ace: one shooter is prolly an employee, more than one is prolly terrorism.
Since the shooter(s) didn't die in the attack, I would guess the perp(s) is/are homegrown, even if Muslim.
Of course, the reported IED adds a layer of complexity to the attack. Perhaps more is coming, God forbid, or the attack on the Center was a smokescreen.
Speculation, of course.

I'm not saying it is terror until confirmed, but why? What is more terrifying? Hitting a sporting event or mall, or just an average workplace where it can happen anywhere.

Yeah, except for the inconvenient fact that 10 runs E-W. They might make the Pacific in 6-7 hours in rush hour traffic.

Woman tells some details about this happening at "the building," the SUV, number shot or killed, various vague info.
She switches "live" to some other woman in California who, with many um's and stutters, says the same thing only less.
Local guy interrupts her report to at least identify the city, but hardly a full recap. Back to stutter girl.
I'm fuming and cussing at these jackasses. "RECAP!"
Any word from the Governor yet, asks first girl? Stutter girl says blah blah blah.
Has the President been informed? We have spokesperson from the White House. At this point I turn the radio off briefly to prevent me smashing it (harder than it already has been beat up whenever the SCOAMF comes on).
When I turn it back on, they switch to Shep Smith (izzat his name?). He's saying, "as we have seen..." only of course I didn't see anything because its radio. And he adds nothing but rehash of what I've already heard and I still don't know what "the building" is.
Turned it off, confident I can get more info in two minutes on AoSHQ posts and comments than I would get listening to those twits for another hour. And I did.

This is far more true than you know and why the muzzie "immigrants" pose such a threat.
Your local mosque is a nice place. The imam a reasonable guy and in come half a dozen thugs. They see an opportunity to take over. A few threats and before you know they are storing weapons.
