30 Good morning, all.

From my dad's WWII diary for this day in 1943:

Dec 1, 1943 The EZ Dog Journal
Clearer today. Very light showers about noon. Big shoot on Cassino came off for two or three missions and then was called off by British. Really a good show while it lasted.

Another artillery bombardment in support of Allied troops attempts to dislodge the Germans from Monte Cassino, the main obstacle to advancing up the Italian boot, and eventually the impetus for launching the Anzio invasion. Wait until tomorrow's entry...(teaser).

43 Did anyone else notice how convenient it was that just as the Paris climate talks started CBS was suddenly able to come up with a poll that suddenly showed overwhelming public support for doing something about climate change and a solid majority saying to sacrifice economic growth to do so?
I mean climate change has been steadily losing public support and is dead last on this list of voter concerns and yet CBS trots that poll out. I smell a rat.

Also RCP has not update their Trump vs Hillary polling in a while. Has anyone seen newer, national polling other then the last Fox poll? How about battle ground state polling?

51 Morning, Glories! ^2

Morning thread is so late, the sun is already well up here in the heart of America. Once it got light, a pretty sight: What I first took to be frost actually looks like a light dusting of snow. First of the Winter. Welcome to December!

That snow was the final bit of the deluge we experienced over Thanksgiving weekend. Glad it only got snowy for the very tail-end!

Now, clear skies and warmer temps predicted through the next week. I'll take it! Nice to see the actual sun again. Hooray for local, if not global, warming!

Sun shining, birds calling, coffee was good. I'll take it.

Off to feed the pets....

He needs broader support to get elected, unfortunately. How does he get that support?

The gun used in the fatal shooting of an artist in the San Francisco area in September was stolen from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.

While creating a peace mural underneath the Interstate 580 freeway overpass as part of a local art project, 27-year-old artist Antonio Ramos was killed after an argument over his cameras. Charged with Ramos's murder is Marquise Holloway, 20, who maintains he shot the artist by accident.

The gun Holloway used that day, a 9mm Glock 26, was stolen from the car of a federal agent in the area just two weeks before the shooting by a separate individual now in custody.

According to their statement that was released earlier today, the Islamist rebels have declared the use of make-up by any female in Maarat Al-Numan as a crime against Islam; if caught wearing make-up, the female offender will be subjected to the Shariah Courts, where she will be subsequently tried by the local Shariah judges and charged with a crime.

The punishment was indicated in the statement issued by the Islamist rebels; however, based on their history, they would likely subject the female offender to several lashes in order to prevent any future offenses.

151 The AGW scam has always been that, whats infuriating is that people on our side cannot even muster and pose the most rudimentary questions that would instantly puncture this bullshit.

Let's think about and deal with the hypothesis that the climate is changing.

Well that's not much of a hypothesis because the climate on the earth has been changing since the earth was formed 4 billion years ago.

So let's add in that earths climate has always been changing in a narrowly chaotic manner since it's formation but the changes we see now are caused by man, well the most obvious question then is if the earths climate has always been changing and the climate change we see now is caused by man, then what is the background climate change and how can it be differentiated from that caused by man?

And if you could differentiate the two then you would have to then ask, well, what is the optimum, that is to say what is the optimum global climate?

When was the optimum achieved?

What criteria are you using to asses this as optimum?

What precisely can we do to achieve this optimum?

How long will it take following your protocols to achieve this optimum?

How much will it cost to achieve?

What will be the trade offs?

This is really simple shit.

Again all it would do to puncture this bullshit is to actually engage these fucks scientifically.

In other words on their own "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE SEXUALLY" terms.

I also believe that we can improve our quality of life by controlling/reducing all kinds of pollution, and believe many kinds of recycling are beneficial.

What I DO NOT believe in is allowing governments -- especially foreign governments -- to dictate to us on the subject.

If we had sensible leadership instead of hand-wringing ninnies, supercilious nannies and misty-eyed ban-everything fools, we would have what we need in the way of environmental protecting without all the regulations, prohibitions, fines and business shutdowns that have resulted from giving misguided do-gooders power over us.

I kinda think part of it is that it has been way over-hyped. There is no kid's entertainment venue that is not lecturing on climate change, it shows up in almost every dang kids movie in some form, in school, in video games, etc. Non-stop lecture on how bad man is, we're killing the planet, bah blah blah.

It's natural to start heating a message that is so overtly, shamelessly hammered into you in every corner of your life.

Ok, some thoughts. The software engineering track is a dynamic field, he will need to be comfortable changing horses every few years. The H1B knife is there - he can protect himself in a space requiring clearances or just be damn good. he has to be aware, he is competing against a bunch of programmers who just did it and either did college as an after thought or not at all.

Personally, if he is a very good math student - he should go very basic. Physics. Software Engineering, Computer Science, etc are just tools. He will do just as much practical programming and software development doing his physics classwork.

Friend of mine went to one of book signings and commented that she looks in person like a bobble doll. She is absolutely miniature in stature, tiny neck and then this big head with a giant set of teeth on top.
And yes, no one that small develops breasts that big. And since she cannot cook without wearing a v neck top with a push up bra, one vacillates between staring at her boobs because they are always out there or being distracted by the rows of shark teeth.

There is likely a reason her husband left her.....

They're far too busy elaborating upon an anonymous and unsourced AP report that the lunatic who shot people at/near/in the general vicinity of a PP chop-shop MIGHT have incoherently muttered something about baby parts. Priorities. And narratives.

That's not a very serious comment!

Third decided on civil engineering because specializing seemed too early. All three are bright and engaging people involved in all kids of stuff. Civil worries me in that the ties to do-nothing government jobs appears rough to plow through.

Besides, civil engineers build targets......

247 I love the question: Do you believe in man-made climate change?

What is this, but a religious test?

248 Or was turned. I said hello to her yesterday here and watched her comments run off the rails before my eyes. Not the same person I remember.

Can anyone even confirm this IS the same person? Certain responses from that nic raised an eyebrow for me in light of things I recall that nic mentioning in the past...

I said yesterday that her tone was in no way different from that of Begonia. You could take one of her posts, sign it with Begonia's nic, and everyone here would read it as a legitimate Begonia post.

251 Marple was a delightful commenter, especially considering how "straight" she was. One day Ace made a post on a walk-in giant vagina sculpture, as a humor break from some very heavy shit that was going down, Marple tut-tutted, and it set Ace off in one of the more controversial banning incidents. She had a lot of friends here. I changed my nic at that time. "Stringer Davis" was, in the books, Miss Marple's "boyfriend."

Not to be confused with 80's Baby. We need a scorecard with the cast of characers. I lay awake nights worrying that in some decade to come, there will be a socking incident and someone will confuse me with Stranger Doovis. Nothing against old Stranger; he just ain't me, is all.

252 CBS?? - you mean the network that runs those "Madame Secretary" ads during football??
How is that "show" NOT a "donation-in-kind" to the Clinton campaign??

253 Oh no, I was talking about Miss80'sbaby. She used to be a good source of information before she turned to the dark side.

Or was turned. I said hello to her yesterday here and watched her comments run off the rails before my eyes. Not the same person I remember.

Ms80sBaby works on the Hill for a Rep. I think they are all scared shitless of Trump. I bet he is confounding all their local polling and fundraising -- all of which screws with their personal job security.

They side with him, the CoC donor breakfasts are empty; they don't and they catch hell at townhill meetings at night. They don't know which way to turn. So the whole atmosphere up their is anti-Trump, he makes life difficult. Shame.

Shame, because if they had shown just a little political spine, Trump wouldn't even be in the race. And, we would be cruising to a well-fought, polite loss to HRC by Jeb.
