Corrupt New York Machine Politician Sheldon Silver Convicted on All Counts

Previously, New York Times had reported previously that Silver had taken "millions of dollars in bribes and kickbacks." He disguised this income as money earned from his personal-injury law firm, which he kept going as a sideline to his main job of being the Assembly leader in Albany. But the law firm was essentially "a fiction," a money-laundering front to disguise the money he was taking as a fixer.

Earlier today, a juror asked the judge to be removed from the jury. He claimed he had discovered a conflict of interest -- that he was a taxi-medallion owner, and feared retalliation from Silver if a conviction should ensue.

The judge told him to remain in the jury and keep deliberating.

Silver has now been found guilty of all counts.

Manhattan federal court jurors found Silver guilty of all counts in the indictment -- bribery, extortion and money laundering. Silver, a Democrat who resigned as speaker after his indictment, continued to represent Manhattan's Lower East Side neighborhood, but automatically lost that post after the conviction.

Be careful of what you say about Silver. Your Magic Words of Evil might put a whammy on him, and he might suffer some mishap in prison.

He is not a coward and the juror did the proper thing.

He discovered over the weekend that the guy who owns his taxi medallion knew Silver and hung out with Silver and he was concerned there would be a conflict of interest and possible retaliation.

It's not cowardice to tell the judge that. It's rather the opposite, in fact.

In fact, it rather raises the question as to just who told him and how that information was disclosed to the juror, doesn't it?

"New York released the details of its private fund-raising last week, saying it has $20 million in donations committed so far towards its $100 million goal, including $6.5 million in the bank. The city also announced a 119-member host committee, and 10 co-chairmen and women who are supposed to help raise the dough. Prominent committee members include Leonard Litwin, the 100-year-old developer reported to be the unnamed developer who prosecutors say hired a law firm close to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, knowing that Silver was receiving lucrative referral fees from the firm. Litwin has not been charged with breaking the law. The team heading up the group includes fashion icon and Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Napster co-founder Sean Parker, and Goldman Sachs head Lloyd Blankfein."

No, one asked to be dismissed as soon as deliberations started because she was freaking out. The judge, I'm going to assume sort of nicely, told her to STFD and STFU and go back in there.

The other juror is a 69 year old taxi driver that all of a sudden, mysteriously like, discovered during deliberations that whaddyaknow my boss goes to temple with Silver. Funny that.

But then I'm from a different era - like Trump. When males stood around in locker rooms, bare ass naked, and accused other males of being effeminate. The ultimate beans and frank insult.

There's literally dozens of cases (at least) where (1) Bill Clinton got an inflated speaker's fee or the Chelsea Legacy Foundation got a large donation, and (2) Hillary acted on a matter of interest to the donor while Secretary of State. There's over 1,000 Foundation donors who's identities still have not been disclosed.

319 Subduction zones...

In geology, subduction is the process that takes place at convergent boundaries by which one tectonic plate moves under another tectonic plate and sinks into the mantle as the plates converge. Regions where this process occurs are known as subduction zones. Rates of subduction are typically centimetres per year, with the average rate of convergence being approximately two to eight centimetres per year.[1]

The warning was ignored in Beijing. On Nov. 24, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Li was asked if China will end island construction and stated
unequivocally that it will not.

398 President Barack Obama wants Turkey to close its 60-mile-long border with Syria to end the influx of new Islamic State fighters pouring into Syria and Iraq.

If Turkey acquiesces to Obamas demands, no entry points will remain between the two countries. The entire border is 550 miles long, The Wall Street Journal reports.

But a Turkish official quickly pointed out to The Wall Street Journal the irony in Washingtons call to close off the border, given the U.S. is completely unable to stop flows in and out of Mexico.

Oh Oh boy rim shot.

402 Speaking of the State Department and their wonderful operation. Today I got the SIXTH email warning me about travel.

(AP)The State Department today issued an advisory notifying all travelers that familiarity with the Islamic shahada (There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of God) would be a good travel practice. ''It's short, it's sweet, and the life you save may be your own'' is how a State Department spokesperson described it. ''Of course, this may compete with those bitter clingers who wish to accept the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as divinity, we cannot guarantee their safety beyond two or three Caribbean islands predominantly inhabited by Rastafarians''.

404 Subduction zones...

In geology, subduction is the process that takes place at convergent boundaries by which one tectonic plate moves under another tectonic plate and sinks into the mantle as the plates converge. Regions where this process occurs are known as subduction zones. Rates of subduction are typically centimetres per year, with the average rate of convergence being approximately two to eight centimetres per year.

To the illiterati (110%of Obama voters) -- it appears as if OMG! the ocean is rising!111
Posted by: free range jihadist at November 30, 2015 05:44 PM (7v/r5)

Your description of the general process is correct, but your estimate of the visible effect is backwards. An oceanic plate, dropping beneath a continental one, will force the continental plate to rise due to "sticking", leading to an apparent drop in the ocean level, at least as measured against a static point on the coastline.

To cite a specific example, at the Cascadia subduction zone the Juan de Fuca plate has been dropping beneath the North American plate since the last major "unsticking" (i.e. earthquake) back in 1700. Even though the plates meet approximately 100 miles off the coast, this has led to the coast rising approximately 6 feet during that time. When they "unstick" again, the coast will drop back down those 6 feet, which no one will mistake for oceans rising. Especially not after the 100 foot tidal wave hits.

Because the military is going to end up paying the tab for this clown's incompetence, and it would be nice to know he and his pals have some skin in the game.

Years ago I worked on a case where our client had a NYC taxi medallion. He explained to me both how the process worked in theory and then in practice.

It's just as dirty and corrupt as you think.

It also explains why the owners of the medallions are freaking out about Uber. If I had that much cash shelled out in legitimate expenses and "administrative fees", I'd freak too.
