Erdogan's son, Harvard Kennedy School educated, is the one running the oil smuggling operation. Turkish forces are involved in that smuggling and handling and transport.

It is a largish 1920's Tudor style house, and it really does look quite nice. All we need is a little snow.

84 You know, I like salt. I like salt a lot, it's the classic flavor enhancer.

But I've been thinking about it, and brined turkeys are a bridge too far for me.

My next one will not be brined (and if I can get away with it, it won't have been frozen either).

I just realized that the turkey breast I cooked for my mini-thanksgiving had way too much in common with processed lunchmeat.

It's the "popular thing" now, by a large margin, but I am seceding from pop culture's food trends.

We had a small dog when I was a kid. We got a baby bunting from Salvation Army. On cool nights, we would hold open the bunting and he would jump in. In the morning we would open it and there would be warm dog smell.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at November 26, 2015 08:57 PM (No/ki)

118 You can adjust the salt in your brining solution, downward, if it's turning out too salty for you... or back off the time.

I disagree that brining useless -- it imparts some nice flavors, even if you don't think it affects how moist the meat stays. I don't think it's essential, by any stretch, but brining now and then is nice. I usually add juniper berries and other herbs to the brine. Fun change of pace.

We did ok with our conventional oven this year, but I miss the convection from the last house. Really shortens the cooking time for a turkey and makes a nice skin. We'll probably upgrade at some point when the budget allows. Most of the appliances in this house are longish in the tooth.

Hi rickl. If Reggie is your dog, the vet can prescribe some drugs to help with a poor bladder.
Our last dog Princess lived until 16, but for the last year or two, she had a lot of bladder problems and infections. The vet was able to help a bit with medications. Later on, baby sheets were used and she'd sleep on there. We'd constantly let her out every couple of hours or so which also helped.

In the end, it wasn't her bladder but her hips that failed.

132 I was reading some stuff about the oil smuggling. It goes on at selected spots on the Syrian border. Syrian side trucks come up to the border during the night, and then Turkish border forces make sure the path is clear, even providing lighting so they can see. Turkish side trucks then pick it up and carry it off.

Erdogan's son, Bilal Erdogan is apparently in charge off the whole operation, and he owns and runs a marine shipping company. That is, he has tankers. He then launders the oil into the legitimate market, much of it going to Asia.

Rumor has it, and I don't know how much stock to put in it, was the Russian jet was shot down over or near one of these oil smuggling corridors on the border. They may have afraid Poot-Pooty was going to start bombing *their side* of the oil operation. The jet could've been gathering intelligence or something, and the shootdown was a message not fuck with our side of the oil smuggling.

We have to know about all this, and have to be looking the other way.

153 Putin has moved what NATO calls the SA-21 SAM system battery into Syria. It has a range of 250 miles taking it well into Turkish airspace and could easily take out one of Turkey's F-16s. The message is, you will do this only once.

This is important to note: Pooty-Poot claims that, as part of the "deconfliction" arrangements, the flight plans of all his aircraft are shared with Washington and the "partners". That is, we and the "partners" which should include Turkey, knew where and when that plane all the time.

Putin is getting pissed. The TOW weapon that the "rebels" used to shoot down the Russian SAR chopper was ours, given to the rebels as part of Hillary and Barky's weapons for terrorists program.

169 Think about it. It's obvious we are looking the other way. Smuggling crude oil like this is not some little thing. It's not some moonshiners with a little still sneaking it around and selling to end users. It has to be refined and processed and that takes infrastructure. The financial end of it is big too. It takes the commercial banking system to be involved.

And you know all our vaunted satellites and NSA listening know every step that oil takes from the ISIS wells to the legitimate market.

Does Barky have a thing for the Turk Muzzies like he does the MoBros. Maybe he longs for the Turkish bathhouses?

It sure does ... because the telegraph was just a cultural appropriation of African communications technology, as whitey is wont to do.

202 Harkening back to the topic of Christmas carols... I have always loved the traditional carols, having sung them in chorus in grade school (a public school, too, where all the Jewish kids got to learn them w/o any long-term damage); even recall being taught "Adeste Fidelis" in Latin by the art teacher in first or second grade. In my thirties and forties I sang in the "Wassaileers", a local caroling group, for 18 years or so (what else is a nice Jewish boy to do with his free time around the holidays?) until a few years ago, when my sobriety collided with the folks we sang for and I realized they had been a lot more fun when I was drinking. That said, I still love the old stuff. Even those old lefties Peter, Paul, and Mary did a gorgeous version of "A'Soalin'", the old English carol; find it on youtube and enjoy what Christmas is supposed to sound like.

My question is: Where the hell did that horrible song "Wonderful Christmas Time" come from, and why? I don't recall ever hearing it until it became an hourly event at Home Depot, Wal-Mart, et al, for the last two months of the year. That song may well drive me into a homicidal rage one day, and if my counsel can play it nonstop for the judge, I'll likely go free. How did this piece of yuletide dreck make it into the Great Christmas Songbook, and whom shall I blame?

Hey grammie, how'd you like the Packers going for it on 4th down in their own territory in the 1st quarter? Brilliant eh?

I pictured you screaming into your egg nog.

206 Yellow, I'm thankful for it too. In "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" Sid Caesar was covered in yellow paint after his hapless attempts to get out from the locked basement of a hardware store. He set off fireworks, started a fire, and finally blasted a hole in the wall, into an adjacent Chinese laundry, before getting out.

He notices a cabby, played by Peter Falk, yakking in a phone box. Falk is a loudmouth smart aleck and yells at him to wait, can't you see I'm on the phone. But he then notices the mess all over Sid and says, what happened to you, was you in some kind of initiation or something?

Sid replies, "No, I had an accident and fell into yellow." Thank God for yellow.

I think Paul McCartney? Not sure, I'll look it up. If I could stab one Christmas song, that would be it. Oh, and that other dreadful thing - "So this is Christmas, why aren't you dead?" or some such lyric.

Sorry Puddleglum. I tend to take out the stabby knives when the Packers play like ca-ca. There's lots of ca-ca tonight. And now, yay, we get to retire Mr. Look at Me Showman's jersey. Minnesota Vikings - they should be the ones stuck with his jersey.
I sound touchy. Maybe I should take a breather.

Having said hello, let me ask a simple question: I'm in the northeast Ohio area these days. And just got the job of a lifetime after two years of crappy temp work and the like.

So, any remote chance of a moron meetup in the northeast Ohio area in the next few months?

Never had one down south, meaning North Carolina, and I'd like to meet some of you folks in person.
