Social Justice Warriors, A Case Study in Dumb

Maetenloch covered most of this last night, but, well. Look, I want to mention it too!

Plus, I don't know if people read Maet's stuff any more than they read mine.

Man caves are sexist and must be stopped.

Free yoga classes cancelled, as yoga is a "cultural appropriation."

Ayan Hirsi Ali slams feminism's determined focus on "trivial bullshit." She spoke of real fights for women's equality -- such as the fight her father had with her mother, her father insisting that she be allowed to get an education (her mother against it, thinking it would make her a social outcast), and contrasts that sort of battle with the Tumblr Jihads feminist trivialists are interested in:

"What we are now doing with the victory, and I agree with you if you condemn that and I condemn whole-heartedly the trivial bullshit it is to go after a man who makes a scientific breakthrough and all that we as women -- organized women -- do is to fret about his shirt?" Hirsi Ali said, referring to the controversy generated by the shirt featuring cartoons of scantily-clad women worn by the scientist who helped land a robot on a comet. "We must reclaim and retake feminism from our fellow idiotic women."

Meanwhile, CNN aired the discredited college-rape-panic film The Hunting Ground, as alleged news-like content. As that's been happening, a member of that film's crew has been editing Wikipedia's entry on the film, in contravention of Wikipedia's sensible ban of anyone with a conflict of interest about the subject editing an article about it.

Oh, and this is delicious: Moving Towards a Feminist Epistemology of Mathematics. From @popehat.

And another self-inflicted problem for conservatives; the Left has a never-ending supply of jump-up assholes with time on their hands to continually re-write Wikipedia articles thus maintaining The Narrative.

52 Professional fymynysts are simply Democrat operatives and hacks.

Real feminists, ie. women actually working hard and trying to better their lives and the lives of their family members, in whatever ever manner they choose-

don't have time for this silly horseshit.

So, they lose out to fymtards with plenty of empty time on their hands and empty heads.

Same with Conservatives and Dims/socialists/progtards/communists-

the later have make-believe, rent-seeking jobs of no real consequence so they can spent time on this silly political shit.

Conservatives actually work so have little or no time for political power gathering.

It is a problem.

83 I can kind of see the point of the cultural appropriation thing when applied to liberals. Elitist liberals are so anxious to show off how open minded, and tolerant they are. Grievance mongering liberals can see through the charade and call bullshit.

The elitists think they will get kudos for an empty gesture, intended more as a means to get self esteem rather than broaden their horizons or extend a courtesy, but they get no love, and they shouldn't. It's another example of the left devouring itself, and it's good in that regard.

If anyone criticizes a conservative for cultural appropriation, the correct response is, "It's a free country, Bollywood Boy. I just heard that this was good exercise. If you don't like it, eff off."

Posted by: Insomniac - Pale Horse/Death 2016 at November 23, 2015 02:08 PM (kpqmD)

Yes, feminism was a movement which preached equality-

but was always at heart a way for marxists to divide society and create a new grievance group.

However, women who don't identify as "feminists" are not the problem.

Women who identify as feminist aren't all insane, flabby, slack-breasted harpies.

Some are just normal women who need to be coaxed away from the hammerhead stupidity that is fymynysm.

It's important to split them off or we can never have a functional society-

so you isolate the "real feminists" from the "insane fymynysts".

The more isolated the insane are. The less influence they have.

You may not agree with that formulation but that's how progress is made in the real world.

Have you ever seen someone have a big project, one that will require a lot of work to do just to come out adequate and that person turns and does all sorts of little projects that can wait, so that person has something to excuse not getting started with the big project?

It's that sort of thing, I think it is called displacement.

It's exactly the opposite. Look around the world, is there any place other than the Western world where women are treated better? Can you honestly say that women are not treated as equals in our society? No you cannot.

It's the same for the race baiters. We beat the scourge of racism as a society. There may be individual racists, but they are universally condemned.

The problem is that there have been organization put into place in order to achieve these goals, and now these goals have been achieved, they're absolutely pointless. However, organizations are like organisms, their number one priority is to expand and grow. So what we have is not BS Focus on little stuff, it's a refusal to recognize that the grand cause for which they work has already been achieved, rendering their passion pointless.

In many cases that passion is their self identity, they just can't give it up, so they just keep looking for more and more and more nonexistent oppression to oppose, and we get this stupid BS.

These people derive identity, power, and money, from fighting "oppression". If there is no oppression in the society, you can be damn sure they're going to invent some.

177 "And it's something Americans do better than anyone else in the world."

Unfortunately, the skills of Americans at culturally appropriating global influences include appropriating negative influences in addition to positive ones, and in the last couple of decades, our habits of importation have skewed very strongly indeed the negative side of the scale.

Also, the question of depth versus shallowness of cultural appropriation.

During the last quarter-century, Americans would have been smart to spend more time on culturally appropriating Japanese lean-manufacturing and statistical process control methods. Substantive stuff. Instead, Americans culturally appropriated Japanese children's anime and adult tentacle porn. Cheap entertainment.

Posted by: Draki at November 23, 2015 02:37 PM (LVT3X)

Over centuries, this will make a difference in the culture.

But go ahead and shit all over this, close the churches and drive out the believers, and then the "war on women" will begin, only this time it will be a real war, and there will be no one to save you from it.

Amateurs in government because their training was for art, they had an amateur basis in art itself for their profession was in government"
Cipola also says, "Instinctively [they] preferred military defeat which could be reversed, to entering a psychological crisis [admitting their culture and world view was not effective.] The Mandarins [tried] to resist this threat without regard to the economic and political dangers"

I think lefties have a prelapsarian view of minorities. They are pristine, innocent like Adam and Eve before the Fall. And all those not in that state do have original sin and non are predestined to be saved, except perhaps by adopting liberal causes.

>>>I liked the whole "secular Gnostic" idea myself. Though really it all kinda connects back, you could say Calvin was a closet Gnostic.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IIRC Calvin didn't think that any sort of "special knowledge" could save you, the way gnostics did. Rather the reverse, you were either predestined to be saved (if you responded favorably to the gospel and persevered) or not, regardless of whatever else you knew, apart from hearing the gospel. And it wasn't even that knowledge that saved you. Your hearing of it and your response were also predetermined, so even this did not reflect any intrinsic merit or causality of that knowledge, as if mere possessing of it saved you. It's convoluted, but not incoherent.

Here in MA (and I guess NH), you can't see one of Heb!'s commercials without an immediate spot for Shrillery, usually followed by one for Crazy Uncle Bernie.

On rare occasions, we get Kasich ads too, plus less-common pitches for Krispy Kreme and Uncle Ben Carson.

It makes one yearn for the endless Toyota "Biggest Sale of the Year!" ads.

Posted by: troyriser at November 23, 2015 03:17 PM (cCEFD)

My thoughts exactly.

Not a huge Trump fan, but I find myself defending him a lot from these stupid media memes.

I, too, recall there being reports around 9/11 of American Muslims celebrating. I remember seeing the videos of Palestinians celebrating, I don't recall seeing videos specifically of NJ Muslims celebrating. However, since the media went all in on "it did not happen. No american muslims celebrated" despite there being evidence to the contrary (namely a wapo article from September of 2001), I'm going to have to go with Trumps memory on this one.

Its actually not that complicated. Calvinism simply teaches that all of salvation is by God and of God, and we respond to it in faith and obedience like a man recussitated by CPR starts to breathe and have their heart beat. They aren't alive because of those actions, they happen because that person is alive.

Yep. It has come up here many a time, that a "real" Mexican would not even recognize what is served in the US as Mexican food. Including the names.

Then, you know, southwestern styles and Texican were hybrids from the very beginning. Are we all culturally-appropriating Texas? Texans think so.

351 In ref to Progtards and the MSM (BIRM): Local paper has front-page, under-the-fold "news" article this morning by David Weigel of The Washington Post (guess our paper has a "sharing" agreement with WaPo): Header: "US voters more fearful, angry after Paris attacks". The article itself uses HEAVILY loaded words like "insidious", "pronouncements of anger and fear", "suspicion of Muslims", "intolerance of refugees", ... oh, yeah, in addition he says that we (intolerant, simple-minded, nativist, right-wing bigots that we are) remain stubbornly "uncomforted by Obama's leadership". Weigel then cites some Dem official from SC that "Republicans are appealing to people's base instincts".

I called the editor's desk and complained that this is NOT a "news" piece, and it doesn't belong on the front page as if it WERE "news". Instead, it's a slanted opinion-piece and SHOULD be on the editorial page. (Right alongside the reprints of selected {Leftard} Letters-to-the-Editor, which mostly praise the paper's (totally unbiased!, non-partisan!) conviction that What We Really Need is MORE government control and LESS interference by wrong-thinking citizens; ... and oh, PS- the Reich-Wing poopy-heads who refuse to agree are just being stubbornly stupid, or racist, or selfish, or short-sighted, or evil, ... heck, probably all the above.)
. . . . . . .
It occurs to me that if more conservatives could spank our local papers HARD ENOUGH --by complaining about the bias and propaganda they are printing as "news", giving them example after example of the way "loaded" terms are used and "inconvenient-to-the-Narrative" topics are ignored-- that MAYBE somebody at the chief's desk would begin to notice that there *IS* another way of looking at the world and covering the news; and that they could GAIN READERS if they start presenting that "other" view. (The Almighty Dollar can be a great incentive, you know.)

If we let our local papers continue as they are, copycatting the "Democrat Operatives With Bylines" faux-news dished up by the MFMSM, then we're partly responsible for the Uni-Party-slanted stories our neighbors and co-workers read each day. I have no control over what-and-how CNN or MSNBC reports, but I can hector my local paper daily by calling the editor and citing chapter-and-verse of what's wrong with the slanted articles they print.

(Any retired conservative folks willing to hold their local paper's metaphorical feet to the fire? Just read ONE article, find the bullsh!t, call the editor. Done!)
