Presidential Family Forum - [Niedermeyer's Dead Horse]

In case you missed it and, by the looks of the polls I put out on Twitter last night, you did, here's the link to last night's Presidential Family Forum.

I was an interesting forum, and I enjoyed the format. When the candidates aren't fighting the moderators or scrapping for every second of time, they are mostly sane individuals.

My take: Rand sounded surprisingly good, as did Fiorina. Cruz did well, too. I hear tell Rubio did well but, I am not getting on board with that yet, even if it means I am wrong. (Go ahead. Kick the crap out of me.)

Perhaps the most memorable moment of the night came from what seemed a really shit question from the facilitator, Frank Luntz;

"Is there a time when you cursed God?"

Santorum opened up and let it flow in a frank, eloquent, heart-rending story about his son. It was really something and those of us who were watching were spellbound. Fiorina followed up on the same question, much to my initial chagrin, but then tugged at my heart as well.

THIS format I would watch again. They spoke for three hours and looked exhausted by the end of it, but they were allowed to tell their stories.

As for, Dr. Carson... well... just see for yourself.

Don't be afraid to take a peek. It wasn't all about the weepy stuff.

Open thread.

Update: Speaking of "Democrat family values" as noted in the comments, here's a prime example.

Prepare your gag reflexes.

29 OT

I'm no techno-nerd, but -- woo-hoo! -- I managed to outwit the techno-nerds of the Internet and "downloaded" a supposedly undownloadable song.

It was not easy.

The sound file was in a digital "container" called "RTMPE" which is some impenetrable streaming encryption algorithm preventing people from downloading the file.

But here's what I did: I got a two-ended computer audio cable, the kind with three "stripes" at each end, and plugged one end into my computer's headphones "out" port, and the other end to the computer's stereo turntable "in" port. In so doing, I tricked the computer into recording an "external" sound that was in fact coming from inside the computer.

Then I changed the system settings to "Audio Line In" for "Input," cranked the volume up to maximum, and hit "record" on an audio recording program, then started the streaming sound file, let it play (silently to me, but at full blast to the computer internally), and recorded the whole thing as an AIFF!

Then edit the sound file by chopping off the blank start and end parts, adjust volume, export as an m4a, and voila! I have the song, ready to put on my iPod!

I am proud of myself. For techno types, this was probably trivial, but for me, it was a real brain-teaser. Which, to my great satisfaction, I solved.

44 I ts kind of an odd way to phrase the question. I wonder what the perspective of the interviewer is.
Is cursing God the same thing as being angry at God? I've certainly been pissed at God or said, "what the hell are you doing?" However, if you're saying that-and that would put people in the company of many people of faith including the prophets, David and Jesus Why have you forsaken me?" In order to be angry at God, you have to believe in God. In the choice of not believing in God (and i've been there too) or being angry I;d choose the latter as it can open the way to greater faith.

54 Abbas admits: 'I rejected Israeli offer of PA state'

Abbas tells Israel TV that he turned down flat an offer by Olmert for a state on the equivalent of 99.5% of Judea and Samaria.

In an interview on Israel's Channel 10, Abbas said that in September of 2008, Olmert presented him with a map that delineated the borders of the proposed PA state. The Channel 10 interviewer asked, "In the map that Olmert presented you, Israel would annex 6.3 percent [of Judea/Samaria] and compensate the Palestinians with 5.8 percent [taken from pre-1967 Israel]. What did you propose in return?"

Abbas replied, "I did not agree ... I rejected it out of hand." Abbas in fact did not initial the map, and the PA never officially responded to the Olmert offer.

This jibes with Olmert's report of the meeting. Olmert has said that Abbas said at the time, "I am not in a marketplace or a bazaar. I came to demarcate the borders of Palestine - the June 4, 1967 borders - without detracting a single inch, and without detracting a single stone from Jerusalem, or from the holy Christian and Muslim places. This is why the Palestinian negotiators did not sign."

Yeah "negotiate" with these people? My ass

71 Regarding angry with God, cursing etc... I think you go too far if you curse God: even Job didn't go that far.

But I do understand anger and frustration. I mean, that's part of why I love the Psalms so much. Psalmists regularly beg God for a reason, express frustration and even anger: how could you do this? Why do evil people have so much success and comfort, when I suffer so much for my faith?

Its heartening to know that God endorses this so much its part of holy scripture. Because He knows our weakness: we're only human and cannot understand all that God is doing. We don't have His eternal perspective, we can't see the whole picture. All we know is our lives and what happens, and sometimes it can be extremely hard to understand or even trust God.

But in the end... that's all it comes down to. Either you trust God to know what He's doing, or you don't. I think that's why the first thing everyone says to people from God when they encounter an angel or Jesus: fear not. Trust me.

The distinction that Mr. Buckley made was 'god damn', as opposed to any other form. He acknowledged using that from time to time, as in calling down a curse.

I, personally, do not think it permissible, in the context that it is using God's name in vain. That is to say, on those occasions when it has escaped my lips, I am aware that I have done an evil thing to myself. But that's just me.

86 I've been gleaning an article linked by RCP titled "Who Turned My Blue State Red?" which you will of course find in your Sunday edition of the New York Times.

Aside from the blatant statistical malpractice you can expect from a J-school graduate, its underlying point is the one that Obama made after he got his G-damn ass kicked in 2014--it's not the voters who mattered, it's the ones who didn't vote that mattered. Because a lot of folks on the dole don't, or can't vote, states like WV, KY and LA which historically trended Dem have become GOP strongholds, even though supposedly much of their white populations are on some kind of assistance.

Again, justification for the permanent bureaucratic state and the perpetual gov't assistance class. I can't read it one siittng because my brain circuits began to self-immolate.

Good point. Because angels in scripture are not sweet little smiling beings with wings or like John Travolta in in the movie "Michael" The fact that Scripture means the people that encounter them are probably scared out of their wits.

I think you might be confusing sending 150,000 Troops to Syria with this:

Vladimir Putin has conscripted 150,000 new troops into the Russian army as the country unleashed a new wave of airstrikes in Syria while and Iran and Islamist group Hezbollah prepare for a major ground offensive.

She was a girl from Birmingham
She just had an abortion
She was a case of insanity
Her name was Pauline she lived in a tree

She was a no-one who killed her baby
She sent her letters from the country
She was an animal
She was a bloody disgrace

Body I'm not an animal
Body I'm not an animal

Dragged on a table in a factory
Illegitimate place to be
In a packet in a lavatory
Die little baby screaming

Body screaming fucking bloody mess
Not an animal it's an abortion

Body I'm not an animal
Mummy I'm an abortion

Throbbing squirm, gurgling bloody mess
I'm not a discharge
I'm not a loss in protein
I'm not a throbbing squirm

Ah! Fuck this and fuck that
Fuck it all tha fuck out of the fucking brat
She don't wanna a baby that looks like that
I don't wanna a baby that looks like that.

Body I'm not an animal
Body, an abortion

Body I'm not an animal
Body I'm not an animal
An animal
I'm not an animal
I'm not an animal, an animal, an-an-an animal
I'm not a body
I'm not an animal, an animal, an-an-an animal

I haven't watched the video, but if I were asked that question, I would interpret it along Job's wife telling Job to "curse God and die." I think it means explicitly rejecting God. Some do it consciously and many others choose not to accept him.

I don't think that it means violating the commandment against taking God's name in vain. It's a sin--a worse one that most think--but it's not the ultimate sin of rejecting God.

Yes, because there are three conversions. The A/D from the original on-line format to headphone, then the A/D at the audio IN, then the compression to m4a.

It matters little, as the task has been accomplished, and the compromises may not be noticeable, especially as compared to not having the recording at all!

No, I'm not thinking about the primaries. This won't hurt Trump. I'm thinking about the general election, where Hillary desperately needs the minority turnout. Scaring minorities with the evil Trump (or whoever the GOP nominee is) with pictures of some black guy being beaten is all part of that.

There are heartrending stories in the lives of many progtards without a doubt, in which they exhibit decency in one instance on an individual level, but revert to sociopathic idiocy when it comes to policy questions. Yes ... yes ... An auto race is like the garden. There is Spring followed by summer follwed by fall followed by winter. In the spring, the cars start to build up speed as the starter's flag falls. They accelerate and vie for the sunlight of the 1st position. In the summer, the cars are going very fast and everyone is happy and joyful. This is followed by the fall, during which the cars jostle for position, to try and catch the waning sunlight, passing, speeding up, slowing down, pit stops. All of fall is wondrous activity. And that is followed by winter, where there is a big crash and many of the garden plants die.

Acutally in Phillippians 3:8 Paul says "shit" so... I had a discussion with my pastor once about the stuff the Bible says that pastors can't or they'd get ridden out of church on a rail, and how that's a problem.

262 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

I can't get formatting to work to save my life. I either get great big
spaces between paragraphs or I get no spaces or paragraph breaks at all.

I always press the space bar three times, it's the only way to be 85% sure.

Thanks for the bible quote. You reminded me that church was starting in Korea and I just texted my Minister's wife a quick greeting. Damn I miss those people.

It may be the invention of the Snickers Gin and Tonic is just what you need to break that bad boy out of its box. Or maybe not it might be horrible.

The literal translation of David's threat to kill every male member of Nabal's household translates literally something like "I will leave to Nabal none who piss against the wall."

271 Ezekiel has a pretty graphic, astonishing description of the Egyptians and their, uh, prodigious manhoods. Paul describes his righteousness as used maxipad at one point, as well. There are quite a few really lurid, surprising passages in scripture that most people aren't aware of and most people don't mention. Song of Songs is enough that people get blushy and want to say its some sort of big allegory.

272 There's probably some way you can combine alcohol and candy. A couple of weeks ago I had a martini that tasted like Godiva chocolate and several days ago I had a caramel apple martini that tasted yes-like a caramel apple. The son (71 days with the same complaint about school) is driving me to drink-more. ;^)

Actually a while back he was incredibly amused at my utter ineptitude with computer stuff so he laughed a lot which is good,

277 There's probably some way you can combine alcohol and candy.

Fireball whiskey IS liquid, alcoholic candy. Apple pie moonshine is pretty good too. Both are dangerous...There is a Wodehouse quote about some drink that comes up shyly and puts its hand in yours like a baby sister and then you wake up with a headache and unable to remember what happened the night before.

279 Rand Paul is frustrating. He swings from "Man, he gets it" to "holy crap where did that come from?" without warning. He's not as bad as his father that way but its still there.

Granted, he's still preferable over the Dem offerings, who offer nothing but "where the hell did that come from?" but still...

***

I'm coming to learn that he is not an off-the cuff kind of guy. He's more of a deep thinker and needs some space to express himself. When rushed, such as in the cage match debates, he simply cannot get it all out. In the forum last night, I liked him.

I don't mind that he doesn't speak in bumper sticker platitudes, but I do despise that it is required.

287 Grammie Winger, Try capturing all the quote except the last close-parenthesis in the hash, and post that.

There are paragraph breaks embedded in the paragraphs you capture from the grey boxes and you either have to pare off the last section to get rid of them, go through each paragraph and backspace them away and insert your own, or paste to Notepad, add your comment, and copy and past back to the comment box.
