ISIS Now Threatens NYC, Times Square Specifically

Ugh. Why have they been permitted to exist.

A video released on Wednesday by ISIS praises the recent attacks in Paris, while using previous footage of a suicide bomber preparing to attack New York City's Times Square.

The video, released by ISIS’s media arm the Furat Media Center, features several men, some speaking in Arabic and French, congratulating ISIS over the Paris attacks and promising that terror group will prevail.

The video also shows French President Francois Hollande’s address following the attacks on Paris last week, mixed in with scenes of an older video of New York City.

Before showing scenes of New York's Times Square, an ISIS militant is pictured saying that the attacks in Paris were just the beginning.

Meanwhile, Blue Dog Democrats (not sure how many of those exist) say they'll buck the president and support Republican efforts to symbolically challenge the rules for refugees.

AllahPundit explains why those changes are symbolic, and the sort of thing I'd usually be angry about, more Theater from our useless RINOs. But it turns out that even this extremely weak tea is too much for Obama, and so he's got his Eric Cartman veto pen out.

Given how weak these changes are, I'd say that Obama lied when he said he has "better things to do" than "posture to show how tough he is." That's all this sissy does. Posture, flex his tinymeat muscles, strut around like the Alpha Grrl she knows she is in her heart.

Numerous Democrats are showing some major concerns about Mx. Obama's cavalier attitude about American security, including Charles Schumer and Dianne Feinstein.

As a matter of fact:

On yesterday's conference call with governors got aggressive with Obama on the exact details of his alleged "vetting," including Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire and even Jerry Brown of California.

On the call several Republican governors and two Democrats -- New Hampshire’s Maggie Hassan and California's Jerry Brown -- repeatedly pressed administration officials to share more information about Syrian refugees entering the United States. The governors wanted notifications whenever refugees were resettled in their states, as well as access to classified information collected when the refugees were vetted.

“There was a real sense of frustration from all the governors that there is just a complete lack of transparency and communication coming from the federal government,” said one GOP state official who was on the call.

But Mx. Obama just continues to strut.

Huh? The UN never did shit for Israel That declaration back in '48 was a joke, since everyone assumed that Israel would be immediately crushed out of existence by the arabs. Israel earned its own existence by force of arms (as is true for every real country). And, ever since Israel disappointed the UN and Europe by not dying they have spent almost all of their time trying to get rid of it. For most of the UN's existence, all it ever did was pass anti-Israel resolutions in the SC.

121 Re Perry's court appearance today. Volokh argued on his behalf for part of the time:

"Professor Volokh urged in his brief that the first count criminalizes Governor Perry's veto of a bill and violates the separation of powers of the Texas Constitution. He also urged that the Legislature is not allowed to criminalize the exercise of powers that the Texas Constitution specifically confers on the Governor, including veto power.

As it relates to the second count, Volokh argued that it criminalizes Perry's threat to veto a bill if Travis County DA Lehmberg did not resign and thus violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, as well as, Article I, Section 8 of the Texas Constitution. Volkh says Governor Perry threatened to perform a lawful act of veto that the Texas Constitution specifically reserves to him in order to encourage a public official to engage in a lawful act, her resignation. The constitutional scholar contends that the Governor's actions are constitutionally protected speech."

declaration back in '48 was a joke, since everyone assumed that Israel

dying they have spent almost all of their time trying to get rid of it.
For most of the UN's existence, all it ever did was pass anti-Israel
resolutions in the SC.

Why is there no description anywhere of the supposed vetting process?

How was this process tested for it's ability to filter out potential criminals and terrorists?

What is the error rate, r-square, or P-value of that research?

How does it differ from the vetting process in EU countries?

Is every supposed refugee interviewed? If not, why not?

How are the interviewers trained? Are they experts in any particular field? What is their training in counter-terrorism? Islam and radicalism? Psychology? Are they fluent in the languages of the interviewees?

Why did it have to take the deaths of 130 people for you to realize that unrestricted flow of men of military age is a potential danger to the US?

How much greater level of terrorism in the US would it take for you to reconsider your devotion to open borders?

Posted by: Nevergiveup at November 18, 2015 08:28 PM (DUoqb)

In the SC, too. Go back and look over UN SC resolutions from the 50s thru the 90s. You'll see that something like over 40% of them are concerning Israel (either specifically about Israel or just bullshit about arabs around Israel that is implicitly about Israel) - and seeing how a pro-Israel resolution NEVER passed the SC that gives you an idea. It's as if the UN had nothing to do but badger Israel.

The US vetoed the worst SC resolutions but abstained on a lot of the others.

Of course, Israel bears a good deal of the blame for this as they should have left the UN long, long ago. There was never any reason for Israel to be in that POS, twisted, unnatural organization bent on its destruction.

For Heaven's sake, their own website quotes Ryan's interview with Bill Bennett in which he stated that defunding the resettlement program is on the table. Leadership has also made it clear that the bill they are passing tomorrow is only the first step. Over the weekend, Majority Leader McCarthy assembled a task force of all the committees of jurisdiction (Homeland Security, Armed Services, Judiciary, Intelligence, Foreign Affairs, and Appropriations) in order that they could draft legislation regarding this issue. The Wisconsin Republican didn't explicitly suggest government operations could lapse when funding expires on Dec. 11, but he didn't rule out such a possibility. He said Republicans will force Mr. Obama to accept some conservative provisions, known as "riders," in the sweeping spending bill.

"There will have to be some riders in this for us to be able to pass it through Congress," Mr. Ryan said, noting that Republicans are looking to curb some of the administration's regulations. "There are a number of regulations being churned out of this administration that we think are killing jobs"
----

So that sounds like Ryan will trade our national security for some tinkering with regulations that will help business. It doesn't sound like he's threatening to cut off funding for Obama's refugee program.

According to the aforementioned report, Ryan is quoted as saying the following: "We don't want to wait that long. We want to - we want to work on and act faster than that". In other words, they are going to act prior to the deadline for the omnibus. I am old enough to remember when the UN would send it troops to stop wars (and rape children). Now a crisis is too good to waste.

This is too well financed and organized and has the support of people (Merkel) you'd think would not ordinarily support it.

It is exactly what it looks like. If it wasn't, Obama wouldn't be so adamant about ensuring it continue.

The fundamental premise is flawed, viz., that once you do your part, the counterparty - in this case the government - will do its part. Really? Consider California: a resident pays taxes for decades, and his kids ... are passed over for admission to the fucking University of California in favor of foreign students paying full freight. Asshole university administrators view this as a win-win: they get paid twice.

Meanwhile, they let in Jamal, Antoine, Laquisha, Latoya, Miguel, and Lupe, whose SAT scores together sum to about a normal score.

When one so-called news outlet is being contradicted by a number of others, it begs the question as to why the outlet is reporting what it is. What I want to know is why whatever Breitbart posts in their contradictory articles is accepted as fact in some circles despite the evidence. Even Boyle's own article admits that no final decision has been made in the last paragraph, undercutting his own narrative. Ryan's office also deferred to McCarthy because McCarthy was the one who organized the task force in the first place.

349 Real Clear Politics: House Moves Toward Tougher Vetting of Refugees

"House Speaker Paul Ryan announced Tuesday morning that Republicans have created a new task force to draft legislation in response to the Paris terrorist attacks, and action on creating a new process to background-check Syrian and Iraqi refugees coming to the United States will be considered in the House later this week."

So that's not cutting the program, is it?

Then this:

"In addition to possibly halting or changing the vetting process, there have already been some calls among Republicans to tie the issue to must-pass legislation to fund the government before a Dec. 11 deadline, but Ryan rebuffed that idea Tuesday, saying, "We don't want to wait that long. We want to work on and act on this faster than that.""

Sure. An entirely new and improved vetting process - one that doesn't have the support of Democrats or the President - will be ready to go before December 11th.

Instead of using their actual leverage with this turd of a President, they're creating "task forces" that will never produce a result Obama will approve.

Pull the other finger.

Feinsteins bill sounds like it is aimed at European passport holders who travel to Syria and then back to Europe. There are thousands of them. Until now, Europeans countrys have not stripped these people of their citizenship. Ergo they can still enter the US on the visa waiver program

Her bill is narrow and sounds like it means to stop that

for instance all the Paris attackers could have also traveled to the US on their French passport, without visa

They are not even remotely the same. Under Stephen Bannon's leadership, Breitbart has become a website driven by a narrative/editorial outlet instead of a factual news organization. Remember MarcoPhones? They do not actually exist. Ryan-Murray did not include benefits for illegal aliens, either, yet they made it sound as if it did. Then they also purposely confused TPA with TPP and gave people the impression the text would never be published when it was posted several weeks ago. Those are only a few examples of their willingness to lie when it suits them.

And so, we have less of a problem. You know, those people who have snuck in, that, I dont know if theyve snuck in, but maybe they become Americanized, maybe the anger goes away. Roll up the continuing resolution and smack Obama on the nose with it.

But they won't.

With regards to whether or not the program will ultimately be defunded? No, especially when it remains to be seen whether they have the votes to overcome a veto, but that is not my issue here. A majority of outlets on the Hill have outlined who is on the resettlement task force as well as the options that the House GOP Conference are considering. I know for a fact that Breitbart is privy to that information, so why are they lying about it? For that matter, if the House GOP was not considering defunding the resettlement of refugees via the omnibus, then why place Appropriations on the task force at all?

Before he retired from blogging, Kim Du Toit had a minimum list of guns that he believed every properly armed American household should have. Note that this was the BARE minimum.

Every adult (16+) in the household should have:

A fighting rifle chambered for a proper military cartridge (5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51 etc)
A fighting handgun in a proper self-defense caliber (minimum 38spl or 9mm)

The household as a whole should also have at minimum:

A .22 rifle. Single-shot is fine.
A proper hunting rifle (30-30 or better)
A 12 gauge shotgun, pump or auto.

I always liked this list, because the redundancy is focused on fighting, and defending the home and family. It's also more attainable for a family without breaking the bank.

What does my ability to do a Google search have to do with whether or not Ryan was correctly quoted on the matter? Moreover, the reason I care so much is not because it is my job to care but because I am absolutely fed-up with people being fed false information. It bothers me even more given my experience with oral histories. When you quote a person, you have an obligation to quote them correctly, whether it be the Speaker of the House or the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus. Same goes for average everyday people.

The original militia bill for the US...

Adult Males 18-45... with a musket, bayonet and belt, two spare flints, a cartridge box with 24 bullets, and a knapsack. Men owning rifles were required to provide a powder horn, 1/4 pound of gunpowder, 20 rifle balls, a shooting pouch, and a knapsack

Note... musket WITH Bayonet for every American Male...

Now Bayonet lugs are illegal in most places...

So Breitbart is right because they are right? That is circular reasoning. The evidence shows that they are wrong, and, as I previously mentioned, not only does this report not say what was quoted but Boyle's own piece contradicts him on this matter. He also has another piece in which he accurately uses the quotes from CNN to say that the House Republicans are looking at defunding. Both cannot be right. Either they are looking at it or they are not looking at it.

Then Bush beat Kerry and Dems freaked out, declared war on Bush and every dang thing he was doing to stop terrorists, and the MSM and CIA got into it w/the cute leaks and Abu Garib, Plame, etc.

What's sad is that if NYC is hit, I doubt Obama and the Dems would wait for all the dead and wounded to be cleared before blaming the GOP, the tea party, and Bush.

Zombie Rodney King sock: "Bofors quad .20 mm mounted on redoubt for anti-aircraft defense"

Nice. A place I volunteer has quad ZSU-23s - think they're Chinese manufacture. Not in operational condition, but ..... with a little loving care and hobby work, who knows.

Oh - and those quad 23s or Bofors, if they can be depressed enough for the purpose, make dandy anti-personnel, er "crowd control" tools as well. That climactic combat scene in Saving Private Ryan involving the German equivalent system was realistic.

A 410 shotgun is a light weapon that can help.

Practice so you can aim it well.

If an intruder gets in the kitchen, and you are there, you have all the knives and cleavers needed.

A small folding knife carried with you can make you fell less defenseless.

JMHO.

I am on school grounds during the day, so can not carry. However, I rehearse in my mind what to do if. Bar-fight mode starts with a chair. Just saying.

Remember, you are the defender, and can be dangerous. Tools merely help.

582 534 Did anyone here quote Breitbart?

The article which is being referenced is Boyle's latest on the homepage, currently first in the sidebar. Regardless of the headline, however, this is the last sentence:

"All is not said and done yet, either, and each of these guys could turn around and block the funding for this program in the December funding bill. Ryan had prevously signaled he was open to such a fight. At this time there is no omnibus yet that has been introduced as it's currently being negotiated."

Again, this sentence contradicts the entire purpose for the article. The legislation in question which is currently set to be considered tomorrow comes from the House Homeland Security Committee, not the House Appropriations Committee. In other words, the entire argument revolves around a process matter. That is why I have always argued that it is equally important to know process as well as each individual bill.

I honestly have no insight into what they will do once the SCOAMF vetoes their legislation; I know what I hope they will do, but it may not happen. So, long story short, my issue is primarily with the outlet circulating the contradictory information.

One of the Horde posted a link to a company selling Polish Radom P64's for $249, I think. That is a perfectly fine 9 mm pistol for home defense. And you could probably find something suitable for much less. Why don't you go to a local gun show? And tell some of the vendors that you are a total newbie? Let me tell you, as an all-but total newbie to pistol shooting, it is great fun to go the range and shoot at squares of paper with pistols. And even a slight woman can shoot a 9 mm without difficulty. The recoil will not knock you over.

Begonia is a sock.

Miss80s is not a troll or anything close.

Refugees are not asylees, refugee admissions are a policy question with statutory limits and requirements, asylum damn well discriminates WRT religion or any other factor involved in a "well-founded fear of persecution".

Syrian refugees, by definition, have already found refuge if they are outside Syria and alive. Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon. Excellent bet that UNHCR and other efforts to support them in exile are 80% funded by the US, already, as always. There is no - no - reason of safety or security to transfer Syrian refugees across the world; it is a policy and political question, it is not new or unusual, and most of all I know of absolutely NO urgency about it.

Common sense and standard refugee strategy is to keep refugees as close to home as possible, to facilitate eventual return and reconstruction.

Great quantities of non-understanding on these matters. But before y'all take that the wrong way, .....

Bottom line: NOT preferentially admitting Christians and/or Yazidis as asylum-seekers is an outrage and contradiction of decades of standard US practice, there is no urgent or security-related reason for Syrian refugee transfer to the US, and the US cannot meet the statutory requirements for refugee admission with respect to most Syrian refugees, thus it may be one more flagrant bit of lawlessness when they ARE admitted (but it all depends on facts - SOME people CAN be vetted, and present no risk).

The most commonly recommended starting piece is the .22LR short rifle. They're inexpensive (used maybe $170? ), and almost of the things you learn using the .22LR are applicable to other firearms, like THE FOUR RULES, targeting, and maintenance.

Find a shooting range that rents firearms. Take their safety course. Some will allow you to rent firearms for 'free' if you buy the ammo there.

For ad-hoc home defense I have an oak bokken and I know how to aim for someone's windpipe.

Alberta, that was Classic Arms with the inexpensive P-64s (dammit, I've been "not" buying one - from them or AIM Surplus and a few others - for months now, and you have to go remind me of that again!).

Fenelon, I really don't think getting a firearm in reaction to the current uproar is a logical move. Getting one may make sense for the other, usual reasons, but even in the unlikely event of worst-case terrorist attacks, home defense will not be the issue for you or probably anyone else.

Forget where you live, but "cheap" is an option in "free" states, thanks to the availability of retired police revolvers/pistols, and inexpensive but decent new guns. We're talking $300-500.

As usual, comments sectionnot a good format for the briefing, but getting a gun and whether to do so involve some judgements and decisions about other things first.

Dolt did not hear about the nice who was watching soaps and her bomb-suit she likes to lounge about in just went off when she was startled by a no-knock raid?

Nah, Dolt is just a liar.

Ricardo, I wasn't addressing the utility of a side-arm for home defense in the absurdly improbably event of a non-mass casualty, non-explosive, active-shooterterrorist attack affecting a private residence (Fenelon was asking about home defense). I assumed from past history and context that Fenelon is someone with zero firearms experience, children presenting challenges as many children do, etc.

In that situation I just think it's irresponsible to recommend getting a gun, specifically in response to the terrorist issue. As I closed my comment, this format is not a good one for laying out the issues and considerations, but that should be done for the first-time green gun owner buying specifically in response to an international security situation.

731 683 OK. Might I suggest to you that Breitbart is not so much deliberately mis-quoting as echoing the cynicism that is rife here?

Boyle presents the House Homeland Security bill as evidence that the House Republicans changed their mind when a number of other publications discuss how it is only the first in a series of bills. That is editorializing disguised as journalism. If he wants to write an editorial, he should write an editorial.

As for the cynicism regarding the House Republicans, I have stated multiple times that I understand. It all started when Kevin McCarthy over-promised thinking that the SCOAMF was Bill Clinton and it went downhill with Boehner's top-down mismanagement. But a number of things have already changed and I will be interested to see what happens. Their best bet is trying to peel-off enough Democrats to override a veto. Right now the SCOAMF is trying to scare the Democrats back to his side. He does not want a debate over ISIS because he wants to hide the truth.

My rational side says the chance of being a victim of a terrorist attack is exceedingly small and we should go ahead with the trip. My irrational side says why take the chance and go to NYC when ISIS has specifically targeted NYC?

And here's a funny - the other day my mom called to warn me that ISIS is targeting Washington DC. I live in the DC suburbs and rarely go downtown. My sister, on the other hand, works in DC, on the Mall. Did my mother call my sister to warn her? No, she did not. Guess who's mom's favorite? We laughed about it.

Without question, speculating about the unknown aspects of commenters' lives and backgrounds etc is one of the weirdest things in human history, an unwelcome artifact of the digital age.

Miss80s is not, and was not, a Hill staffer, which I assumed, and once asked her in these comment sections. She's just a diligent nerd following congressional stuff. Anyway, that's what she said ("diligent nerd" - entirely complimentary BTW - are my words).

I *did* work on the Hill and "around" the Hill, for many many years.

Which partially explains my exasperation with the literally unbelievable performance of the GOP. It is just as bad as most here think, in fact even worse. The darkest possibility, and one that's supported by lots of evidence, is that this irresponsible collapse *is*, in fact, "representative" government at work.

Well, if ISIS does intend to attack NYC, and wants to attack an iconic target, I can think of no entertainment venue more iconic that Radio City Music Hall. I say cancel the NYC trip, and go to some place obscure, that ISIS does not even know the existence of. And also, write letters to NBC (they own the hall, right?) and the NYC tourist board, telling them why you two are forgoing your trip there....that you are concerned about the terrorist threats, and that none of the politicians elected by New Yorkers, city, State, or Federal, have shown the least inclination to do anything about it. If they come to realize the bottom line is suffering because they kiss muzzie ass, maybe things will change.

763 "Blue Dog Democrats" - 5. That's about it. There are 5 left in the House. Prior to the election in 2014 there were 12.

In the Senate, I'm not certain, but an educated guess would be ZERO.

For reference, when the NAFTA bill passed under Clinton there were a bit over 100.

Oh, and this is why ACE and company should still be Republicans - when the Communists managed to get to a majority of the D's conference in each chamber, the moderate "Blue Dogs" virtually disappeared within a decade. Watch - the same thing will happen once Conservatives get to be a majority of the R conference - the RINO's will rapidly vanish.
