Waiting For Word about Abdelhamin Abaaoud: Was He There Or Not, Was He Caught Or Not?

Sorry, an earlier update said he had been taken alive -- but when I listened again, I realized they said might have been taken alive, which is.... well, sure, that could have happened. Or maybe it didn't.

Updates: The mastermind is holed up in the apartment with several accomplices. Police and army troops are flooding the streets to prevent escape.

At the moment, they are not actually attempting re-entry.

But... it's coming, obviously. The worry, I have to think, is that that apartment is wired to blow up.

Update: In the first round of explosions (at around 11:50 Eastern, 5:50 Paris time), a female jihadi blew up her explosive belt, killing herself and at least one other terrorist. This might have caused the wounding of the two cops too (but I'm guessing that).

...

Update: Only one person was "lightly injured," this article says.

Wow. Sure seemed a lot more robust a vetting than that.

Saint Dennis is that bad banlieu (zone sensible) I mentioned the other day as more of a genuine no-go zone.

The raid was carried out by, um, RAID, the French counter-terrorism SWAT police. The dumb acronym is like SHIELD -- they just picked words to spell out RAID.

Live Coverage From France: Here.

New Video: Bring me everybody!

New video. It's from a different angle, but it shows the same basic thing.

Sort of numb to the absolutely ridiculous degradation of the US and the west.

This latest, crowning Kerry idiocy, and the ridiculous performance of the dim affirmative action empty suit at his presser, now just fit into that huge, depressing "literally unbelievable, that is, routine" category.

And ace, per your occasional forays into the question (like yesterday), I think you and many here greatly, greatly under-estimate just how intellectually unfit these people are. of course but the fire was pretty disciplined so I am guessing it was the cops. jihadis are probably not equal to french raiders and if you were a jihadi and had an automatic or semi automatic weapon and had a bunch of french cops raiding you you would probably be pulling the trigger and switching magazines as quickly as your little jihadi fingers could move.

Danube, so do I (know lots of people who gave so much only to have it literally discarded, nonchalantly, and with 0 public interest or concern).

Today I was talking with Marine senior NCOs. It's clear they keep their focus on their own business, for the most part. An opportunity arose to gently broach the, um, leadership/elites problem at the top of their chain of command. One just gritted his teeth, said nothing, the other one looked down and said "yeah, I hope so, maybe there's a chance". (I had said that, perhaps, there would be some relief at the very top of the chain in 15 months)

Doubtful that the gap between the country (most of the public) and the leadership, and the magnificent asset the country has in the Marines and other services, has ever been so great, in our history.

France has the larger percentage of muslims than Germany. Of course, that is before the current deluge.

There is more support for the terrorists among a larger percentage of the population.

France - 8% Muslim
Germany - 3-5% Muslim

Google - "As Muslim Populations Grow, What Can Happen To A Society"

France is close to the tipping point or the point of no return - at 10%

OG Celtic, I certainly failed to anticipate the collapse of the US (which I date to around 2005), so my crystal ball has only one star on Yelp, but I'm not seeing any meaningful political fallout or related policy improvement from any of this in our future.

Certainly not for France, or Germany (it still astonishes me, all of it, but I know default to "astonishing and improbable" as the most likely course of events).

And probably not the US. Don't forget, the moonbat hordes in the US have de facto allies in the huge number (probably a comfortable majority) of Americans who are unserious about serious subjects, and that includes a large % of "conservatives".

1. Seeking injunctions against long established BBQ restaurants to quit smoking pork and serving it.
2. Suing to get Sharia law and courts in cities across the land.

58 I read a book about the guillotine in Germany (in French no less, woot). One of the first things Hitler did, within maybe a week of taking power, was order the purchase of about 28 guillotines. Germany had beheading with an axe, don't think they'd moved up to machines before H., but anyway the head axe-guy executioner became the head guillotine guy.

And they did use it for politicos --- the kids from the White Rose, including the girl, were guillotined.

79 Our values are being diminished on both sides. Muslims hate us for our Christian values, and the left hates us for our Christian values.

It is sometimes hard to stand up for our country when the Supreme Court reinvents the institution of marriage into something unrecognizable. When people lose their jobs for saying a preschooler is either a boy or girl, that encouraging gender bending in a child is child abuse.

I guess when you have given up being a moral person like the Democrats have done they don't have any fight left in them. What is there to fight for? Gay rights? I actually don't have a desire to die for that cause.

Who is the bigger enemy? The Radical Islamists or the Democrats? Democrats consider Republicans a bigger enemy than the killers.

I am flying this week with return on Black Friday. Will check in if I make it back!

After 9/11 I flew as soon as they allowed it again. No fear. I am not going to be afraid now, either, but in 2001 we had a leader. That is what freaks me out, the lack of leadership, not the damn drugged goat boys (although that would describe leader, no?).

Jane, they're going to turn on him anyway. Next couple of months (probably sooner) they're going to start pretending they don't like all those things about him that we all plainly see. They have to, so they don't look like the obsequious rotten traitor-scumbag testicle-munchers they all are.

It happened in 2012 for about six months. Remember? Of course not because they went right back to loving him when the election was in the bag. Comeback President!

It's going to happen again. They'll hate him. We'll get all tingly when they're soooooo not nice to him, when they question him. Then after Hillary gets in, he goes right to the history books as the greatest president of all time, and they follow him around, right up his ass, broadcasting his opinion on everything for the rest of his life.

92 It kinda puts the Spanish Inquisition in a different light. Isabella and Ferdinand defeated the last Caliphate in Europe (Granada) and drove out the Muslims, and the Jews were their allies, back then.

The Ottoman Turks were on the hunt, conquering places like Naples from strongholds in the newly conquered Constantinople. It's hard to say they acted unreasonably when we see what violent Islam is all about.

When the Muslims came into Spain there were almost no native Spanish left. It took 700 years to build the population of native Spanish back and finally get rid of the Muslims, once and I hope for all.

I am entirely in agreement that we can 'absorb' an attack.

If that attack is in response to our having flattened 20 square miles around the home territory of those who last attacked us.

And then in response to the attack we 'absorbed' we go back and return to silicon dioxide the hundred square miles surrounding the attackers' home.

103 What would you expect when you let thousands of young angry men of unknown political leanings but who are definitely members of a death cult that will applaud their death, into your country filled with unarmed pacifists?

Maybe that's too harsh. I have no clue what the man/woman on the street of France really feels. Just as here a large number are not fans of what actions have been taken or not taken.

Yet we must accept the blame if any. If we really felt it was important, we could change minds. But they have to feel the pressure. No pressure, no change.

Look what happened with Ryan; one day no blocking, next day blocking refugees.

And the reason why is numbers equal pressure.

117 Just to elaborate on my earlier post:

A backronym or bacronym is a specially constructed phrase that is supposed to be the source of a word that is, or is claimed to be, an acronym. Backronyms may be invented with serious or humorous intent, or may be a type of false or folk etymology.
The word is a combination of backward and acronym, and has been defined as a "reverse acronym".[1] Its earliest known citation in print is as "bacronym" in the November 1983 edition of the Washington Post monthly neologism contest. The newspaper quoted winning reader Meredith G. Williams of Potomac defining it as the "same as an acronym, except that the words were chosen to fit the letters."

Personally, I'm a little skeptical. Those have been soft, easy targets for years. There are thousands of soft, easy targets terrorists could hit at any time.

The fact that they haven't, to me, doesn't mean we're doing a great job of preventing it, but that the terrorist threat is overstated.

Maybe a little less overstated with ISIS on the scene, but still overstated.

136 I read a book about the guillotine in Germany (in French no less, woot).

Not saying he isn't, but these developments don't (to me) suggest Hollande is some sort of badass leader. He has no choice but to get serious with a situation like this, and using the military at home is quite normal (no posse comitatus).

As to the Germans, and reference to a guilt complex, I think a fitting snark these days would be "congratulations, Germany, in the course of 100 years you've come close to destroying Europe three times, counting the latest/ongoing insanity".

As I am reading The German War (Stargardt), as has happened in the past with detailed histories on the topic, I'm getting a warmer and fuzzier feeling about not only the strategic bombing that levelled German cities, but even towards the epochal rampage of savagery that the Red Army conducted from the east.

I can't picture him in Hawaii, it's too remote, he needs to strut and pose and dribble his pearls of BS on "interesting" Europeans and kneed-padded journolists. And Hawaii offers far from enough shopping venues for her. I mean, what else is she gonna do --- golf?

There are no "moderate" muslims. IIRC, I saw a poll that said that 70% of the islamists surveyed said that they had a somewhat favorable attitude toward ISIS.

Did they care that these "Religion of Peace" adherents are animals who send women to roadblocks with bombs straped to themselves, forcing my son to kill them and have to live with his guilt. 264 #248, Mr. Obama's much vaunted intellect has never been on display--not during the two elections and not during his Reign of Terror. Everyone was fooled by his faked education and vaporware resume. When anyone wanted to really check into his accomplishments, they were legally blocked and called haters. His one skill is to do flawless oratory using White diction while looking sorta kinda Black. A man of true intellect can speak extemporaneously on a wide variety of subjects without notes or a teleprompter, he cannot do it--he screws it up every time he tries it.

I can't even remember all the names we have gone through already. Two RAID agents wounded. Two tangos dead. One jihadi scrunt exploded her bomb belt and took two out with her. The supposed mastermind of the Friday 13 attack is holed up in an apartment. That's about it, so far. I turned the live feed off, as I am about to go to bed.

Looking at that mass of police and fire personnel, got to wondering if they have boxes of croissants and eclairs brought in, instead of donuts.

Any gun nuts still on the thread and watching the BFMTV feed, did you catch the heaters the army guys were carrying (or the SMGs the cops have)?

Posted by: Boss Moss at November 18, 2015 02:13 AM (G27YD)

353 The last time I was in France, I actually went to St. Denis!

Why?

Because it is there in the Basilica of St. Denis that all -- and I mean ALL (except for a couple) French kings are entombed, dating all the way back to Clovis!!

Why this isn't one of THE major tourist attractions in France, I just can't understand.

Anyway, at the time, I had zero clue that St. Denis had become an Islamic slum. I naively assumed that any neighborhood around what is arguably the nation's most prestigious (and oldest) church must be pretty hoity-toity.

Ooops! Couldn't be wronger.

Got off the train and was immediately confronted with the slumliness of the place, which although not as bad as some worse slums, was pretty gross and a bit scary.

One scene I witnessed there is still seared into my brain: Some obviously Muslim guy was (surprisingly) leading a dog on a leash -- a massive pit bull terrier that was self-evidently used in dog fights, as it had fresh wounds around its ears and face -- and the dog tried to pause to take a shit on the sidewalk, but the Muslim dude just kept dragging the dog along anyway, yelling at it and whipping it and kicking it as the poor thing dropped its steaming turds in a flamboyant mess down the block, still shitting and cringing as the guy beat it.

Seared, I tell you -- and not in a good way. I hated that owner so much, and everything he stood for. I actually had more sympathy for a killer attack dog.

Then we went into the cathedral and saw the tombs of Dagobert and Charles Martel and Louis XIV and so forth -- totally amazing, not a single other tourist in sight -- and then had to re-negotiate our way back through the merde-strewn slum.

Why did the French turn their royal tomb into a slum full of invaders?

Why don't the Muslims deface the ancient tomb if Charles Martel? (Probably because they have no clue it's right there in their midst.)

So many questions. So few answers.

There have been several going on in several countries it looks like to me anyway. The southern border horde summer of 2014 started a slow boil that the media, Democrats, and establishment GOP beat back but it continued to bubble resulting in Trump erupting to state the obvious.

The Europeans have been seeing it pop out and furiously beating it back by all means necessary for several years with uber-progressives getting smacked around in elections like those disgusting Labourites in the UK, the lefties in Denmark and Netherlands, and of course Hungary. Next up will be France and Italy. The Merkel mess and the French terrorists have just kicked what was already floating around into overdrive. Europe's cops being made to babysit streaming hordes of Muslim moochers so post menopausal crazy women (Merkel is described thus by several women in my family) with issues can feel good instead of policing terrorists is the last straw.

I'm getting some signs that the Conventional Wisdom is way off-base. People realize that 150 dead in a city of several million isn't an existential threat and a reason to be terrorized, but rather a rebuke to existing structures and attitudes -- and a reason to be pissed-off.

433 #SaintDenis siege over, ops continue in suburb, suburb still in lockdown.

5 police injured, 1 police dog killed, 1 civilian killed, 2 islamofag terrorists killed, 1 female "kamikaze" as the French called her blew herself up.

Two more suspects sought, all travel in suburb forbidden, police and military cordon.

Hunt goes on.

That's all directly translated from the French.

Apart from the islamofag which I added.

The Fwench seem especially agitated at this point, more so than I've witnessed in my lifetime. Looks like they are into kill the sob's mode at this point. What the fallout for the general islamofachist population is going to be is anybody's guess right now but my money say's it is going to be a lot different than it was previously where they had free reign to do what the hell they pleased.

It's over and according to french police sources NO civilians were killed. The cops are tightlipped if they captured him or not. The only thing the press reports is that there were 7 arrests. So i guess the cops want to keep quiet so any actionable intelligence can be acted upon immediately

I would think there is some of that too. But people were genuinely terrorized in Paris and as that subsides and reactions harden will determine what will be done long term. Hollande is furious. Murderously furious. If that is a intellectual lefty's reaction think of the average schmo in Lyon. The French have a superiority complex and the delusion of multi-culturalism is falling away. They see now they wuz had.

437 Megyn Kelly tonight interviewed a white jihadi-turned CIA undercover informant (think he was German? Missed the intro) and he was saying that ISIS's goal is to have people feel vulnerable/be scared to go out anywhere - the mall, restaurants, etc. So, seems like a diff approach than AQ who was into making the really big statement/hitting the perfectly symbolic target. He also said they definitely were planning to hit the US soon.
Ugh!

I agree with others that there should be NO no-go zones. Are there any here in the US? Maybe parts of Detroit?

454 Turkey and Greece were playing a soccer game, and the Greeks asked for a moment of silence for the victims of the Paris attacks, and the Turks booed and hissed. (No doubt these Turks are some of those good, "moderate" Muslims the media is always telling us about).

Just another sign of appreciation for those "universal" values that were attacked in Paris, eh Barry?

Much like when the Muslim world danced in the streets and handed out candy to children in celebration of the murders committed in NY and DC on 9/11.

But we're all just one big happy family, and we all believe in the same "universal" things, right Barry?

Sucks having a clueless idiot for president. Might want to give that some thought next time you lift your hand to pull a lever in the voting booth, Obama voters.

466 When I had my own blog, now abandoned, I was critical of Islam. Most of the hate directed at me came from Amsterdam (I'd run the ip address) and from the DC area.

So it's not surprising that DC would be a 'go to' or welcoming location for Syrian muslims. It's not as if the people who live in the area have anything to fear, they're only 'soft targets' not actual people.

468 A new poll by the Pew Research Center reveals significant levels of support for ISIS within the Muslim world. In 11 representative nation-states, up to 14 percent of the population has a favorable opinion of ISIS, and upwards of 62 percent "don't know" whether or not they have a favorable opinion of the Islamist group.
...
For these 11 nation=states alone, the favorability ratings for ISIS reported by the Pew poll are indicative of at least 63 million ISIS supporters - and potentially upwards of 287 million if the undecided are included in the calculation.

With a presidential race and number of critical state races coming up, there must be some reason they think the majority of people want a flood of Muslims in their communities.

I just don't follow the logic.
