andy McCarthy has a great piece explaining that no, Cruz has not previously supported amnesty -- and Rubio knows that, but is claiming otherwise to make Cruz seem "just as bad" as Rubio on the subject.
Rubio knows he cannot make himself look better on the subject; and, in fact, it seems like he does not even want to make himself look "better" to those who disagree with him. Rubio is pro-amnesty deep in his heart. He's not just bought and paid for by amnesty-seeking billionaires -- if he were, we could change his opinion by simply changing his patron. No, he's a true believer, and doesn't want to renounce his enthusiasm for amnesty. So, unable (and unwilling) to make his position look better to the Republican primary electorate, he tries to make Cruz look worse. A really interesting take by McCarthy. Do read it. Amnesty is a public policy IQ test. If one doesn't realize what a catastrophically open-ended disaster anything approaching amnesty would be, they simply aren't very smart - ina practical sense, regarding public policy. The question of "values", tolerance, etc. aren't even engaged, the practical aspects take over instantly.
Amnesty means a ramping up of the lawlessness of the last 30 years, and the unrecoverable final elimination of any credibility in dealing with this fundamental issue of sovereignty, rule of law, and common sense. Not recognizing this makes Rubio, and Ryan, who are already wrong even within their own artificial framework, effectively as stupid and reckless as Obama.

U-3? U-6? Labor force participation rate?
Then, "unemployment high" will be defined by what hard numbers on that metric? Where are the numerical levels at which H-1B gets frozen?
If citizens keep dropping out of participation in the labor force because they can't find work, then the "headline" U-3 unemployment number, which doesn't include them, is going to eventually fall to what looks like classical full employment, even though it's not by any imaginable means full employment.

As to his stance on H1B visas, I can see him shifting in his paper that just came out. My own thinking on this has shifted, so I'm forgiving. From an economic perspective, I want skilled immigration. But I think the definition of skilled needs to change. I mean, 50 years ago the US would probably take anyone and everyone with a Computer Science degree from wherever in the world. But today that doesn't make as much sense. But then again, what about entrepreneurs and enterprising individuals.
Actually I think this all comes back to welfare. We need to get rid of it. People who come here should expect nothing but the opportunity to make something of themselves, with the gov't out of the way. This would solve all of our problems. Crap.

He originally planned to present himself as the top choice of evangelicals and perform well enoughin Iowa so that he could become the most appealing candidate left as people get Trumped out and the primaries wear on. The problem for Cruz is that much of the mainstream GOP support has flowed to Rubio while evangelical support in Iowa has stuck with Carson.
The flip on immigration is designed to draw support off of Trump with the hope that he can skate on his new found belief that legal immigration is bad, while simultaneously hammering on Rubio for his own evolving position.
The problem for Cruz is that he is still running third among voters in his "lane" to the GOP nomination. Rubio is pretty much unchallenged in his lane. Money spent to try and weaken Rubio doesn't help Cruz against Trump or Carson. He's sort of trapped.

I'm getting concerned that if ISIS does keep up their attacks on the West, even if they are countered or attacks are made back on them, that the current leaders won't take a page from the Viet Cong Tet Offensive and declare that there's no hope of defeating them and we must capitulate (well they always say "have peace talks" but that's what they mean).
If a few more attacks are bad enough, we just may start to hear this sort of crap from our modern Walter Cronkites about how they're winning and unstoppable and we must find another way to deal with them.
Anyone believe that the feckless leadership we're now saddled with along with support from the supine media will stand up to ISIS?
We can't even get our own people to agree to THINK about stopping an unwise inflow of potential terrorists in the face of just one blatant attack brought on by a similar inflow.
And btw, did anyone really think we got new leadership when Ryan was elected Speaker?
Only ones showing some sense and some guts are a few State Governors and how long will they be able (or even can they) to pressure and the courts of the Federal Gov't?

You seem to be under the false impression that we lost the Vietnam War at the Paris peace tables. That is false. We won the war on the ground in Vietnam. We came to a draw at the peace talks. We lost the Vietnam War in Washington D.C.
After Nixon resigned, the next election in 1974 gave Democrats veto proof majorities in both houses of Congress. The very first thing that the Democrats did with those veto proof majorities was to cut off all aid to the Republic of South Vietnam. When the North Vietnamese invaded, the South Vietnamese fought like they had in 1972 when the annihilated a North Vietnamese with more armored vehicles than Heinz Guderian used to conquer France in 1940. Problem is that when the South Vietnamese ran out of ammunition, the US would not resupply them and that was the end of South Vietnam.

A fair point. There are many things I like about Rubio, but I do feel like he needs a lot of seasoning. He and Cruz are same age and vintage, but I get the impression that Cruz has a much more developed conservative ideology - one that he has studied and examined.

When Boehner was Speaker, a number of conservatives complained- and for good reasons- that too much was being decided and drafted by leadership instead of by the committees with jurisdiction, the chairmen and members who are actually experts on certain issues. All that Ryan is doing here is allowing the committees to work as intended. Besides, any bill addressing the Syrian refugees has to be drafted and passed by a committee. As far as the Conference is concerned, the matter will be addressed when members return to D.C. In the meantime, Ryan has asked that they be briefed about the Paris attacks.

True, but McCarthy is asserting that Rubio cannot claim that Cruz's views on immigration were once quite similar because Cruz was supposedly playing eleventh-dimensional chess, a claim which is proven false by Cruz's own words. Again, the bottom line is that every Republican presidential candidate has at some time or another supported legalization. Last I heard, Cruz currently refused to say whether he supported it or not. With regards to Rubio, the debate over whether he is trustworthy or not depends on whether you believe he truly learned something from the Gang of Eight experience.

Rubio's initial lying was particularly pernicious given he did so to curry favor with the very people who tried to defeat him and put the equally execrable Charlie Crist into his seat. Rubio slapped those who elected him. He displayed atrocious judgment. He speaks eloquently but says nothing. Fortunately with his policy choices, he acts stupidly and accomplishes nothing. As an aside, the cucktingent which supports Rubio deserve him given how he would change positions overnight on abortion and other issues that matter to them.
In rapid, jaw-dropping fashion, Rubio went overnight from some limp-wristed Establishment type who wanted to let hundreds of thousands of jihadis into the United States and now is in opposition to this relocation. Wonder what happened?
McCarthy has Rubio's number.

No, that's not the analogy since the media is always unfairly attacking Republicans (although they don't really attack Bush that much so the analogy fails on multiple fronts).
Rubio's claim is worse because he is saying that he and Cruz have similar positions when that is demonstrably false. People can say that Cruz was or was not playing 11th dimensional chess on the H1B visa issue but that issue is a shiny object for people who think that it is the same thing as amnesty, which intelligent followers of politics know is completely dishonest.
You can have your position on the H1B visa issue and actually, whether Cruz was for it or against it is immaterial since AMNESTY is the issue in play here, not legal immigration (which is what the visa program is).
We are always complaining on our side that the media/liberals conflate legal immigration with illegal immigration as a way to accuse us of being anti-immigrant. And then here we see some posters conflating the H1B visa issue with the Gang of Eight amnesty plan.
These things are not the same by a far piece.

Trump is a masterful marketer. He saw that there was a niche for the candidate who could take up the banner on the single most important issue to most conservatives right now - illegal immigration, and still appeal to moderates and some democrats by taking up anti-conservative policies like tariffs as his own as well.
And then there are those who just want an outsider, issues be damned. Cruz, while an outsider inside the enemy camp, maybe is still too much of a politician for some Trump supporters even though we'll probably find out that a President Trump is the consummate politician after all.

So are entry level jobs. Entry level jobs train up youngsters, and entry level jobs are the best some of our citizens can manage to do.
Our government is wasting the scarce national resource of entry-level jobs by allowing - even encouraging - them to be taken by non-citizens.

My plan would be:
wall/exit visa control/everify
amnesty - green card only, not citizenship, and paying back taxes - no tax credits possible.
No more H1B1 visas at all.
Reform immigration to be points based Canadian system
I would also copy the Canadian Super Visa idea. A great way to understand that immigrants do have family members but not grant them citizenship.

All I have done is provided evidence as to why I believe my junior senator (Cruz) believes/believed in legalizing illegal immigrants. Contrary to your statement, I am hardly the only one who feels that way. Moreover, I readily acknowledged that whether or not one believes Rubio is currently being sincere is a matter of opinion/trust linked to where one ranks immigration as an issue in the 2016 election.
As for my comments regarding House Republicans, one of the promises Ryan made to the House Freedom Caucus is that he would return power to the committees. I also made a number of references to process. The idea that say, the House Budget Committee oversees budgetary issues is a matter of fact, not opinion. Same generally goes for the procedure in passing bills. With regards to taking offense, the only people I have an issue with as far as this post is concerned are McCarthy and Cruz. If I was one of those people who only spoke with those whom I agreed, I would have left a long time ago.
