Trump Goes After Carson

Trump goes after Carson on alleged lies about his background, drilling down particularly about the story about attempting to stab a cousin with a knife, and pyramid schemes:

Trump claims both to not believe the knife story, and to find Carson's temper "pathological," which sounds like he does believe the story. Well, no one's voting for Trump for conceptually consistency.

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump said Sunday that he remains alarmed by Ben Carson's claims of having a violent temper as a youth, but the real estate mogul said he doesn't know if his Republican presidential rival has been dishonest.

...

"It's a lot of scrutiny and frankly, it's a lot of statements that are under fire, and I hope Ben's going to be OK with it. It's going to be interesting to see what happens -- time will tell," Trump said.

...

But Trump also implied that Carson's story about attempting to stab someone in his youth -- only to have his knife broken when he hit a large belt buckle -- was hard to believe.

"Belt buckles really pretty much don't stop stabbing," Trump said. "They turn, they twist, things slide off them -- pretty lucky if that happened."

Trump said Carson's description of his childhood temper as "pathological" is disturbing.

"It's a serious statement when you say you have a pathological disease, because if I understand it, you can't really cure it," Trump said.

See? Is he saying the story's false, or that it's true?

Anyway, as to the veracity of the story, Ben Carson's mother confirmed it, back in 1997, before Carson could have been conceiving some kind of presidential campaign.

Bear in mind, we're in the weird situation where NY Magazine can snark with the headine, Candidate Defends Himself From Accusation That He Did Not Stab a Child. Carson said this happened; his detractors say that he didn't try to stab anyone, as a criticism, I guess.

Trump has also hit Carson on his "scholarship" story and "pyramids."

David French says Carson's claim about being offered a "scholarship" to West Point before actually applying tracks with his own experience:

Many years ago I was "offered" an ROTC scholarship before I even applied. After speaking with officers familiar with my academic record, they told me I would receive a full academic scholarship, and that the application was a mere formality. My teenage self certainly took their statements as an "offer," and I wouldn’t have applied without their word. (I filled out the forms and was formally accepted, but declined in favor of a better scholarship elsewhere.)

The most Trump-like attack was Trump's statement that Carson should "start taking pills" for his "‘pathological disease."

Video of Trump on O'Reilly here.

This happens as Carson notches Trump in South Carolina, 28-27. Statistical tie, but Carson "ahead."

4 Trump uses "pathological" because that is BEN CARSON'S word for it. Literally, Trump is merely quoting Carson's own book. Carson said he had "pathological disease". I'm beginning to believe it. So few of his stories can be confirmed: saving white students during MLK riots. Being the "most honest" student.

Add to that that Carson supports amnesty, doesn't support the 2nd Amendment, wants to take the "positive aspects" of socialism and mix it with Capitalism, supports TPP, supports statehood for Puerto Rico, has a wacky view on the pyramids, is a member of a cult (Christians believe Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult and SADs believe many of the SAME things).

It's all adding up.

Rubio will "surge" next. The GOPe didn't mean for Carson to get *this* popular.

Donald Trump's biggest problem is that he does not know when to STFU.

Trump's second biggest problem is that he really doesn't "get" why he's resonating with the Conservative base of the Republican party.

It never occurred to Donald that just maybe that the same people who support him ALSO might kinda like Ben Carson, you know, seeing as Dr. Carson is pretty much on the same side.

But no, Trump is set on conducting himself as if he's a WWF superstar and Everyone is his competition.

Trump claims both to not believe the knife story, and to find Carson's temper "pathological," which sounds like he does believe the story. Well, no one's voting for Trump for conceptually consistency.

If you had a commenter here who went off about how he spent a lot of time as a kid doing acts of life-threatening violence, and you got the feeling that there were some holes in the story - what would you think of him?

Personally, I'd extrapolate from all that, that that commenter had a fixation on violence that he hadn't acted on. And I'd be concerned - as a reader - that he might act on that in future. I'd certainly take measures to protect myself physically if I was in a meetup with him.

It put up a good defense for Carson, who I found credible in his claim, until I was made to think about it more... somedude points out you meet qualifications for x and y to make the early cutoff, and all you have to do is apply by a certain with appropriate references (z) and you'll have the 'Congrats You Made It" letter. 103 Why did Trump get sent to the Military Boarding School? His father said he was headed in a bad direction... since it's about the same age as Carson's stabbing story, I think we need to start asking Trump to account for his 14 year old self.

Trump is really not Presidential material. I wish he was. But he is just vile with his attacks on stupid stuff like this.

He could attack Carson on the Treaty, that is a valid attack, and Trump has some credibility on that issue, but instead he is in Tabloid territory talking about the activities of a 14 year old boy as though it matters somehow.

I think maybe Trump is not very smart. Maybe he is just lucky, I saw something about how he'd have more money if he had just invested his inheritance that he really doesn't make as much as just investing would have given him.

They are as imperfect as you or I. And both will continue to she'eet the bed a lot. The game is just beginning.

He also says he had anger issues as young man before he found God. Some of what he says may be puffery or exaggerated. It may all be true. Who knows? But MSM and Trump are going after this because it undermines Carson's only real qualification: that's he's an honest man and a man of God. Not surprised about MSM doing this. New Rule #1 in republican primaries... which I had thought this fucking numbskull campaign managers and candidates would have observed by now... if the media is attacking another candidate, ALWAYS side with the candidate because everyone hate the media. It's so fucking simple to pick up it's stupid that it has to be a rule. Jeb Bush looked like an asshole attacking Rubio towing the media line, and Trump looks like an idiot and an asshole now. I don't care the positions - you ALWAYS take the republicans side over the media during the primaries - it's worth far more to you than that candidate losing from faux attacks from the media.

188 I can understand why some might support Trump in the hope he would be their son of a bitch. As admiral King said, "When the shooting starts, they have to send for the sons-of- bitches." Unfortunately, sometimes it is difficult to distinguish the hardass SOB from the common a**hole.

205 Trump is doing us a favor. He's going to either show us his base-pettiness or he'll show grace and ability to learn the way of coalition-building, which I don't think comes naturally to him. He and his are not thinking too far out of the box on picking up other supporters so he's alienated many, except Cruz's so far, but they aren't likely to support Trump in anything but the general anyway.

I want to believe Trump is using 3D star-trek chess moves to placate the minds of center-lefty independents, the old blue-dog dems, and libertarians. Yeah, they don't vote in primaries, except they could in several states and that would cancel out the GOPe advantage of running Jeb! or Dondi. We'll see. Long way to go. 206 I'm gonna come at this from a kind-of oblique angle.

SNL alum Nora Dunn, in a "rambling psychobabble" rant against Trump on SNL, wrote:

...he lowered the bar for creepizoids like Ben Carson, who admits to going after people with bats, bricks, boards, and a hammer when he was a kid, and who tried to stab a friend when he was fourteen. He has not been asked how he overcame such behavior yet, nor what keeps him in his seemingly trance-like state now.
http://bit.ly/1NzkWYJ

In Sunday's Tulsa Tribune (happened to be at Mom's otherwise would never have known), the pathetic editorial cartoon echoed this Journ-o-listic Progressives Playbook technique.

"has not been asked how he overcame such behavior"

CHRIST! No need to ask. It's been made clear for a long, long time. And Jesus keep him, and all of us who struggle against our creepier natures.

Not that the minions of the Devil would understand that, of course.

219 Slightly OT, but just when I was starting to really question the Trump thing, along comes Peter Medici (if I'm spelling it right) on Charles Payne's show. Charles had a couple of people on, talking about the upcoming debate. e started off asking the famous economist point-blank, "So, which candidate has the best economic plan?"

I expected a long-winded, wishy-washy sort of "well they all have their strengths..." kind of thing. Instead he blurted out, with conviction ... "DONALD TRUMP". I was really surprised!

He went on to explain that Trump had sought out the advice on numerous experts when he put together the plan, was open-minded about it, included some great ideas that were pretty comprehensive, and that as a business man he knows what kind of government policies would help him grow a business.

Then he added that he was disappointed in Carson's plan, because he was hoping to see some special insight into how people think from him (reflecting his understand of the brain), and more sophistication (reflecting his intellect), but that instead it was nothing great.

As Ann Coulter has said, Trump (like only a few before him, including Romney) stands to LOSE more by running than they stand to GAIN, in running for President. It adds up to a certain degree of credibility as to his sincerity on the whole "Make America Great" stuff.

Last cycle someone gave MSM the e-mail address and phone number for the ex-wife of the guy Mitch Daniels's wife ran away. Mitch then dropped out before he even started.

Common wisdom was that Romney's camp had done it. In fact it was Jon Huntsman's.

I'm assuming you directed this at me? Here's one link from Walid Shoebat:

And there's this from a former SAD

Ellen G White is the "crazy prophetess" I mentioned.
I was really sad to learn they are not Christian. I know of a few and thought they were. Now I'm praying for them to find the right Jesus. Breaks my heart. I've liked Carson for 25 years and had no idea.

How do you know that Trump only has prayed "once"? Psychic?

Posted by: Aslan's Girl at November 09, 2015 09:09 PM (xetep)

261 Y-Not, I hope you look at the two links I provided for FenelonSpoke because it exposes the horror of SAD. No, they are NOT Christian. And yes, Norman Vincent Peale (Trump's favorite) is more Christian than any SAD.

262 The only reason people see more UFO's when they are drunk is because that is the only time that they are looking up. The rest of the time they are looking in. And grain storage is perfectly reasonable. I would build a pyramid to store grain if I was afraid that the UFO's would come and take it away!

263 We tried sanity. The times call for crazy eyes. So Trump, Cruz, Carson. And that's just for a chance to change the trajectory. While the media tries to tear the winner down with the enthusiasm since they had W in their sights. And he was President. He's still in their sights.

264 The thrill is long gone for Trump. The election needed to be held after his Megyn Kelly comments for him to have a legitimate shot.

Rubio is the best choice for the general election.

265 @249 Seventh day Adventists are Trinitarian. Their denomination is accepted within larger evangelical communities as well (meaning the differences are fairly minor and on important points like the divinity of Christ they are obviously in agreement). The idea promulgated earlier in the thread that they are same as Jehovah's Witnesses is a pathetic attempt at slander. Spend five seconds googling and take a look at their beliefs and you can easily see this to be the case. The Trinity is specifically listed as one of their fundamental beliefs.

I provided two links, one from Walid Shoebat and one from a former SAD. So, I spent "five minutes" and found out they are NOT Trinitarians. They have a false Jesus.

LOL, 10,000 ppl showed up tonight in Springfield ILLINOIS for a Trump rally. The thrill is hardly "gone". But, then, you're an admitted Rubio supporter, sooooo.....

268 Sorry, but I consider their own statement of beliefs more authoritative than your sources.

I don't know who this Walid Shoebat person is or why you think his name means something, but take it straight from the horse's mouth: I'm an SDA and I know the church believes in the Trinity.

It's the 2nd fundamental belief of the church's 28, for goodness sake: That the Godhead, the Trinity, comprises God the Father, Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Also, can you stop calling us "SADs"?

270 I get it, Ace doesn't like Trump...I do.

Carson supports TPP, Amnesty and gun confiscation. ..what is there to like about him?
I really don't think people understand that about him

271 Damn, now Ace the Fearless Capitalizer is pimping Monmouth polls?

272 That is quite bizarre.

273 "What I conclude from this is that Trump thinks Carson is going to beat him in Iowa and he doesn't like that."

Trumps bluster works in NYC but not out in the cow pastures.
