I'm not a Chris Christie fan or supporter by any means, but he does have a sense of humor about his weight. I recall at one point where he smilingly pointed out a guy in one of his town hall audiences who was toting a sign reading, "Chris Christie: Too Big To Fail".
If only Christie had walked out across the debate stage with a mock blimp tether trailing behind from one of his trouser legs. He would have OWNED the place. Posted by: torquewrench at October 28, 2015 10:57 PM (noWW6) Posted by: Ricardo Kill at October 28, 2015 10:58 PM (uMole) 34
Does it strike anyone else as strange that all the debates have been on cable? There are FCC commissioners who do nothing all day but blather about "digital divide" but apparently NBC isn't required to carry the debate on one of their three digital OTA channels. What is the point of public airwaves if they don't carry political debates?

@61 RedState seems to think Rubio won also. I have no idea what "win" is supposed to mean in these things, but Rubio clearly did very well. Cruz had the most memorable individual moment, and Rubio won his direct exchanges. Carly got the most time and stayed (almost too slavishly) on point, and Christie was funny and personable, I think those 4 all did fine.

My script for Ted Cruz' introductory comments at the first general-election debate:
"I want to congratulate Ms Clinton on her nomination. We've just had two terms of a President whose rank incompetence requires that we look all the way back to James Buchanan for something comparable, but for the first time the Democrats have nominated an admitted felon to the top of their ticket, and I want to congratulate Ms Clinton on breaking that glass ceiling. Even from just what's been reported in the press, she has admitted to two felonies, she has mishandled classified information in a manner that exposed it to foreign access and she conspired to evade Federal records laws. If she were in the private sector, if she were a banker, an executive at a defense contractor or at a health insurance firm, there's not a grand jury in this country that would not indict, there's not a trial jury in this country that would not convict, she would spend most of the rest of her life in prison and her Democrat base would be marching in front of her family's home with torches and pitchforks. So you just have to admire the nerve of her party, the complete lawless nerve, to select her as their candidate. And I will state now for the record that unless she drops out of the race and retires from public life, should this acknowledged felon offend the public sensibility by continuing to represent her party in this contest, if elected I will ensure that she is prosecuted with every resource the executive branch can bring to bear." Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement at the conclusion of the CNBC Republican Primary Debate: While I was proud of our candidates and the way they handled tonights debate, the performance by the CNBC moderators was extremely disappointing and did a disservice to their network, our candidates, and voters. Our diverse field of talented and exceptionally qualified candidates did their best to share ideas for how to reinvigorate the economy and put Americans back to work despite deeply unfortunate questioning from CNBC, said Chairman Priebus. One of the great things about our party is that we are able to have a dynamic exchange about which solutions will secure a prosperous future, and I will fight to ensure future debates allow for a more robust exchange. Christie waited till the end of his remarks, joked about my sign, "Chris Christie - Too Big To Fail," and then went off on a riff about how the ideas behind the founding of the United States of America were "too big to fail." The guy is toot smart, and good on his feet. I think he might have made it four years ago, when we needed him, but there are too many other good Republican candidates now and Chris just didn't put together a successful enough track record in NJ to make him a strong contender this time around. These adversarial debates are sharpening up the Pub field. 3 Months ago, it was kinda mushy, other than Trump - all the boys are (except Jeb and Kaische) are starting to show some fire.

190 Can I be honest?
This was the best thing ever to happen. We complain about media bias, but we needed something like this. Something so open and so obvious and so blatant that even the libs are complaining about it. And our best people shined. Posted by: AmishDude at October 28, 2015 11:30 PM (JIElb) I concur. I think it sort-of woke some of the candidates up to who the enemy is. The MSM is the propaganda arm of the DNC and they need to be treated as such. Posted by: Mandy P., lurking lurker who lurks at October 28, 2015 11:36 PM (KkVB6) 217
It is times like these that i want to wear a Viking Helmet and carry a battle axe (husband says I am a battle axe. He is in basement, tied up, cold and whimpering he's sorry).
Seriously, was glad to see the GOP guys and gal poke at the MSM relentlessly. And a few jabs at the Haggard Harridan. Huma would have to change her Depends frequently if most debated her sorry armadillo wrinkly old hide. seriously, why does the gop repeatedly go to the likes of nbc for debates, letting them pick liberal reporters of no particular distinction as moderators, to be eviscerated/ repeatedly. it's like crazy.

Almost all of the candidates were decent ambassadors for their party tonight. And even with the crap being tossed at them, the time was filled with ideas, passion and substance. This contrasts pretty well with the donks' debates of, "I'll fight to the death with the evil repubs harder than he/she!"

>> Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince
>> Priebus released the following statement at the conclusion >> of the CNBC Republican Primary Debate: Two possibilities: a) The GOP got sandbagged again by the MSM. b) The GOP decided that they'd let the MSM slip them a generic-brand leftist tool as a moderator and advise the candidates to beat the little shit down, bread and circuses for the base. I'm not convinced they're organizationally capable of (b) so I'll have to go with (a). Wonder if Megyn will have Luntz and his dunces on her midnight program tonight.
You know, those who buried the needle 98% for Cruz's remarks on their dial-up toys. Will Fox want people to see that, since it's pretty clear they're going to switch their support to Rubio after Yeb! crashes and burns? Posted by: Marybeth in Florida at October 28, 2015 11:39 PM (7egrg) 226
Oh, and ?jeb? is such a pathetic little wimpo. He brings out the bully in me. I am pretty sure Barbara let him sleep with his blankie until marriage (perhaps he still does. His wife probably swiped one from Paris and did not tell customs).

it was fun to see Cruz's debate skills as he recalled several questions at the outset of his asskicking.
sadly, I suppose harwood, a bottom who likes a good beating more than anyone, hadda run back to his greenroom right after the debate tie his tie around a doorknob and rub one out to a youtube clip of Cruz smaking him around. Posted by: yankeefifth at October 28, 2015 11:40 PM (vb33c) 230

That was the natural reaction of a bullshit artist getting called out. Fake as all shit.
Lack of respect for power as well. The man they are laughing at is a accomplished prosecutor, a relatively young Senator with a seat for life if he wants it, a likely SCOTUS nominee at some point, and on the short list for President on his first try. They personally had better hope he doesn't keep an little black book of shitheels he is going to hammer someday. Posted by: Jean at October 28, 2015 11:41 PM (ztOda) 233

Sorry, I have no interest in seeing Rubio in any political position. He has no business in this government since he actively works to destroy the very notion of the nation-state. Rubio should deport himself so that he can be with his true constituents. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at October 28, 2015 11:41 PM (zc3Db) 234

I read it at work and had to wait until home to comment. This was a brilliant sucker play by Priebus, absolutely brilliant. I would not be surprised if it was planned. Bring the pinko in thinking he's going to get them fighting amongst themselves and they turn on the media - exposing them. It was a great sucker play - to run a scam like that you need stupidity and an ego as the mark. Posted by: Guaman at October 29, 2015 05:44 AM (Yxb86) Processing 0.03, elapsed 0.0334 seconds. |
