Trump in Sioux City, Iowa: "What the Hell Are You People Doing to Me?"

Fairly amusing speech by Trump in which he tells Iowa to "get its ass in gear" and put him back at the top, instead of second place, which is says is "terrible," at least for him.

Joe Scarborough made a point I was making a couple of weeks ago: Trump looked fine when he was winning, but what happens when he starts losing? Does he get all pissy?

Well, based on this one speech (and it's just the one; we don't know what he'll be like if Carson holds his Iowa lead), he's handling it pretty well. It plainly bothers him, and he's kind of obsessing over it (as he always obsesses over poll numbers, or the ratings --- poll numbers are just the ratings for politicians, right?), but he's kind of funny about it.

Thanks to... I want to say Vic but I know that's wrong.

Meanwhile, a YouGov poll has Trump well ahead of Carson, by 14 points, nationally.

6 Trump's a bigger name nationally, but I'm not surprised Carson plays better up close and personal. Especially in Iowa.

Trump works better at a distance. Carson works better in person.

Honestly if the two teamed up they'd go a long way to offsetting each other's liabilities. Could be a damned effective pairing.

I think it has been obvious for some time (years) that establishmentarians would rather have a liberal democrat than a conservative in the white house, or even a non-conservative wild card like Trump.

15 I just don't get why anybody cares about Iowa. Iowa is not representative of the nation at large. It is not predictive of the eventual nominee. And it votes democrat in the general.

Iowa is important this year only in that Trump is not leading there. In previous years, party leadership have seriously talked about reducing Iowa's role for the reasons I stated. This year, those same republicans are clinging to Iowa like a wubbie

Its Always Sunny had a funny episode where I think Charlie was the wild card (maybe Mac) - I think the one where the gang tried to solve the gas crisis and they were driving around a drum of gas within an old van. Back in 1980 during the primaries, it was that piece of shit George Bush who said Reagan's economic plan was "voodoo economics," which the Democrats and media seized and co-opted. Unfortunately, Reagan chose that shitheel Bush as a running mate, even though he didn't need him.

So here we are: a whole slate of candidates who either outright promise to do the nonconsensual sodomy to you, or who won't take much of a stance about nonconsensual sodomy. And here are one or two candidates who say, "hey, maybe we should ask you before we ream out your butts".

That's the GOP.

He finished 2nd much the same way Huck did in the previous cycle. Neither would quit long after it was obvious to everyone they had zero chance of winning. And Santorum was spending Foster Friess' money so he wasn't exactly penniless.

152 GOPe/COCs like illegals not just for cheap (and subsidized) labor, but for their alleged economic stimulus. As the MN governor said, "I can't grow the economy with just you white folk, so if you don't love diversity, move".

With illegals come more spending, even if it is welfare supported. More jobs to build their homes, Medicaid collections, etc., with money forcibly taken from taxpayers.

With so much debt, only growth (or much more debt) can keep the pyramid scheme growing. Hence the lie about the young illegals funding our Medicare .. even though they will not cover the cost of their own Medicaid/care, or the other subsidies, and they are bringing their old and sick with them.

But Trump perhaps would return many that are costing us. Cruz might do that, but the establishment also hates Cruz, and he seems less likely to be able to win without them. It will be a wild ride.

I'm having a hard time believing that a good number of Pubs aren't just plants by the Democratic party. 177 "As the MN governor said, 'I can't grow the economy with just you white folk, so if you don't love diversity, move'."

After which he'll be trying to grow the Minnesocold economy with the likes of the Somali Muslim immigrants who applied for jobs as beer truck drivers, then claimed that they were being religiously discriminated against when asked to actually drive the trucks to deliver the beer, and who ended up forcing their employer out of business.

Winning!

178 "Some Republicans, such as Peter King and Kelly Ayotte will even go as far as endorsing hillary clinton."

Yep. Kelly Ayotte who was just so overjoyed when the Tea Party and Sarah Palin threw their support behind her, and who then turned into such a ridiculous RINO after taking office that it even embarrassed her Senate patrons McInsane and Grahamnesty.

180 Right Torque

The destruction of our hard won successful culture is enough reason not to flood the land with third world America haters, but growing an economy by basically forcing us into socialism ... importing a larger welfare class ... is not growing an economy. It is kneecapping success and redistributing its funds, all in the shadow of monstrous burgeoning debt.

The moral thing is to cut the welfare we have now (unfunded liabilities at some $200T and growing), rather than accelerating the burn rate by importing even more welfare spenders. But that is not good for the COCs or politicians.

181 "It plainly bothers him, and he's kind of obsessing over it (as he always obsesses over poll numbers, or the ratings --- poll numbers are just the ratings for politicians, right?), but he's kind of funny about it."

Trump is very funny. He did a nice job here.

He's a natural born winner. Winners want to not only just win but win big. Win decisively. I'm sure he has a plan and strategy with his campaign advisers on "must win states" but that won't stop him from wanting and trying to run the table. That's what winners shoot for.

Go Trump!

182 "132 Are you allowed to comment hear if your not wearing socks? (I'm asking for a friend)"

But of course! It emphasizes cankles, if you're lucky enough to have them.

183 I thought Trump was being semi humorous. Bu true to form, especially Krauthamer et al, Trump sore loser when behind.

184 For trump being the smartest guy in the room he forgot who won in 2008 & 2012 in Iowa. They weren't the GOP nominee.

185 Sock are mandatory. Pants optional

186 I think this shtick could work for Trump. He is trying to communicate that he wants their support but they need to meet him half way. I said shtick. But it can work if you are a billionaire TV personality. This speech gives him something to point to if questioned about his drop. Coming in second in Iowa to Carson could be played as a positive. Last in Iowa would definitely hurt.

187 Meh. Trump was being somewhat humorous...for him at least.

Polls aside, he can't afford to tic off *any* state at the moment so he's going to do his "Aw Shucks, Folks!" during this news-week to try to push his IA poll numbers back to where he's top dog again.

If it doesn't work, and Carson stays firm or even leads...I think THEN he'll say the poll doesn't count, and touts the ones he's still up in, like NH, etc.

I hope Carson AND Trump do okay, but the divide between Trump NOW! supporters and those that are for anyone else gets amazingly mean spirited sometimes...and that's putting it mildly.

188 Lest I forget, Cruz as well...I really hope his damned number climb up.

Can't for the life of me figure out why he isn't doing better.

189 I've been a member of You Gov for years and have learned to take any of their political polls with an entire dump truck of salt. All the on-line polling firms amass a huge amount of information about the people who have signed up with them. They can use this push desired results when it comes to any poll by including of excluding people from the pool. I used to get a political poll from You -Gov every month to six weeks. Since I gave them a couple on very non-PC answers, they only send me polls on snack foods and mouthwash.
