Is It Time to Start Taking Ben Carson Seriously?

The latest polls show him ahead big in Iowa, 32% to Trump's 18%. Even if you toss that one as an over-good outlier, and also toss his worst performance (tied with Trump) as an over-bad one, an average of the other three polls puts him about 8 ahead of Trump, with room to grow.

And when I say "ahead of Trump" I mean "not even within shooting distance of anyone else."

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton does the only thing she knows how to do: She accuses an opponent of being "sexist" for standing in her royal way.

While sparring over gun control during the CNN event in Las Vegas, Sanders said, "As a Senator from a rural state, what I can tell Secretary Clinton, that all the shouting in the world is not going to do what I would hope all of us want, and that is keep guns out of the hands of people who should not have those guns and end this horrible violence that we are seeing."

At the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Iowa over the weekend, Clinton told the audience of Dems that she's "been told to stop shouting about ending gun violence."

"Well, I haven't been shouting, but sometimes when a woman speaks out, some people think it's shouting," she said. "But I won't be silenced, and I hope you won't be either. How many more people have to die before we take action?"

...

Clinton’s characterization of sexism is "wrong," he stressed.

It's all she's got.

6 I have begged, pleaded, cajoled, prayed for a non establishment candidate to save the party of stupid from itself. I just don't think he's the one to do it. While I respect much of what he says. I find his lack of leadership etc. a bit unnerving. Could I vote for him? Probably. I honestly though need to know more about him admittedly before I say 100%. I've already signed the no RINO pledge this time, so we'll see. I think Trump steps in it more every day and will start to sink.

8 The two big reasons I don't support Carson:

1st, he was squishy on guns; and

2nd, his representive to a townhall group I go to went full on stereotypical theorcrat to a degree that Pat Robertson would recoil in horror.

This woman has been close to the levers of ultimate per for a good portion of her incompetent disaster of a life and keeps on whining about being a woman.

27 "he was squishy on guns"

People have been talking, especially after the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan disaster, about how to reliably detect stealth liberals posing as bona fide red-blooded conservatives.

Really, it's not all that hard. A few simple rules of thumb.

The first of which is: a squish on gun rights? Watch out for this individual.

The needle on my stealth-liberal detector swung all the way to eleven when Mitt, the former staunch banner of guns with shoulder things that go up, suddenly became an NRA Life Member a few days before the 2012 primaries kicked off.

Iowa likes to hear so-con speeches and that's what Carson is giving. Iowa is certainly possible -- but then he needs the legs to make it thru the Southern primaries, and his ability to finance and work the local political structure seems iffy.

We must continue to weaken the nation, to embarass our legacy, to lie cheat and steal, bury ourselves in debt, we must fight to make our nation the envy of all the minor minds in every mud hut in every corner of this great global community.
And finally, we must. WE MUST. Make ours a nation that welcomes any who wish to cross our fictional border, and bring with them the vestigal remains of the tyranny, mythology, and oppression that we so very much desire as our own.
Thank you.

Carson's a neophyte, of course, but his first instinct is usually liberal. He's learning to do better but he is much more easily co-opted by the well-meaning Left than even Rubio, although he doesn't have a well-formed anti-conservative agenda like Trump or Jeb.

Successful presidents (e.g., Reagan, Eisenhower) deal with Congress to get their agendas passed. Unsuccessful presidents like Zero or Carter haven't the first clue about how to get their legislative agenda passed.

In Zero's case, he simply outsourced the ACA to Congress, which is why it is such an incoherent mess.

120 73 Don't caucuses usually require more organization than Carson is known for? Will he underperform because of that?

A lot of PACs working on his behalf.

Trump will get destroyed in Iowa. The caucus means going to a room and sitting there for three hours while the party functionaries talk about representatives to the county committee, etc., etc.

He'll get a much lower vote total than polls will be indicating. Though as December rolls around, the polls will start asking about how sure you are to attend the caucus.

I think you're seeing some of that now. The dive in Trump's poll numbers could have something to do with the likelihood of people to attend the caucus.

I figured they already had a deal done on the debt ceiling (I knew this when I read a story that they didn't have any deal, and Treasury was delaying a 2-yr auction. That was just the Kabuki Theater warm up). And that's what I'm hearing today.

A clean increase for two years. That is, raise it to cover expected borrowing for the next two fucking years, no concessions, no nothing, just a clean increase good until the end of 2017, into Hillary's first term.

No, the most likely thing is a complete consolidation of federal power. She admires China's ruling party system more than any other political entity. She does not believe that States have rights and she has a long history of insisting there is absolutely no private right to ownership of firearms. The first thing Hillary! would do is to out-Leftist Barry by doing something completely stupid about the 2nd amendment. Just as they've made semi-automatic weapons with the shoulder thingy that goes up illegal in CT and NY, she would try some sort of unilateral action via EO or exec branch regulation. Maybe it's just some desire of the "outsiders revolt" fans to do what they fear from the establishment, unify their wing and rally around one option. But I don't think those two are appealing to the same flavor. Carson is winning the Huck/Santorum wing, the prize going to the candidate with wishy-washy views who Iowa believes loves Jesus the most. Trump is a different beast, they're in different factions, not one faction that can be united. And they aren't very complementary, that's a ticket that would get less than 200 electoral votes, perhaps far far less, and would have no clue how to govern if they somehow won. Like if Hillary had a stroke and fell off her walker the day before the election.

408 I suggest we start calling Hilliary "The Vagina" (or a more colorful variation, if you prefer).

Why?

Because at the end of the day (as Ace points out), that's her only selling point. It;'s what she will ALWAYS rely upon.

Think about it - if she wanted to be treated like an actual person, we'd have to examine and consider things like her personality, her intelligence, her family, her past personal and professional history, list of accomplishments and failures, etc., etc. And she loses in everyone of those categories. I mean certain death. She has no real accomplishments other than gathering power and money for the purpose of gathering more power and money.

And in order to avoid any criticism, she turns to her first and most powerful trump card - her biological sex. "It's time for Hilliary (i.e. time for a woman as President" etc.). That is straight up sexism, with the the point being that her vagina is alone is powerful enough to heal the world.

We are going to learn more about the female anatomy in the next year than Hugh Hefner learned in his decades on the planet.

And if that's the case, if she herself is going to distill her strength down to her sex hole, then we should refer to her as her sex hole.

And that's a big reason why Carly is being marginalized by the media - if she were the Republican primary winner, Hilliary's main weapon is taken from her arsenal.

Trump is a horrible choice. But it was eleven on one in the republican

Understand the liberal media WANT IT TO BE TRUMP VS RINO.

They gave Trump more airtime. And make most questions about Trump.

Rubio was in a 5 minute interview this week. Every single question was 'Trump this, Trump that'. Good PR for Trump bad for other candidates to get their message out.

They deliberately sideline the conservatives - Cruz, Rand Paul and Walker got the least questions and airtime - and once when Cruz was interjecting they rolled right on ... while letting Fiorina blather on without stopping her.

Why? Simple - Trump's not a conservative but a cardboard cutout of one - rich, obnoxious, way politically incorrect. Easy to make it a GOP-e vs Trump race.

As Trump fades, *maybe* they will stop making Trump the subject of all their questions. It's getting tiresome and boring.
